Prizmo beat his 2020 time by a minute, which tells me that Mas and O'Connor and others need to attack Redbull or try to get in a break. It's going to be a long day tomorrow, and I can't wait till Sunday because then I can give my legs a break. In 63 days of watching all 3 tours this year, I've rode on the trainer a little over 1.400 miles and lost 15 pounds. Since February, I've gone from 187 to 160, and that's what I was at in 1984, and now I'm 64. Great analysis, Chris. I knew Prizmo had this. O'Connor had a great Vaulta.

@5:28 Did Lipowitz blow... or did he intentionally allow the gap to open? I think he allowed the gap to open. I mean why would he pull Carapaz and Mas in pursuit of his own teammates? This is what Lantern Rouge said, and I think I agree.
I don’t think so. But it’s always possible. Lipo had to be at max though after getting to the front from 20th. But I couldn’t say 100% because maybe Lipo thought I’m going to blow up so why not cause chaos before I go. Mas should have never let Lipo on Roglic’s back wheel. I always told a ride to go in front of his team leader so that doesn’t happen. If they fought for Roglic’s wheel (their leader) with me, then I would go up and push Roglic and that always ends it there. 🤔🦋👊
When Redbull let the red jersey go on stage 6, the team was criticized left and right. Today, the team proves them wrong. The team was well rested for 13 stages! So today, they decide to use their strength to win back the jersey and they only have to ride conservatively tomorrow.
Did Lipovitz really blow when he opened a gap to Roglic or was it by design? Looked like a tactical move to me. He returned to the GC group sans Roglic and Mas at one point…
I think he blew from the effort of getting to the Bora train. Otherwise I would have preferred he ride in front of Roglic but after Vlasov and continue when Vlasov blew up to get Roglic further up the climb. But if can’t pull on the front then opening a gap helps also. 🤔🦋👊🚂
I don't think so. Potential-Best-Young-Rider Lipovitz wants to FINISH the stage as fast as possible as opposed to domestiques Martinez & Vlasov. Chances are slim-to-none that Lipowitz is so much more powerful than Carapaz and Mas in latching onto Roglic w/o going dangerously into the red.
Love seeing primoz shut down the doubters with a dominant ride. Didn't look to me if he was putting 100% in either like he has the last few mountain top finishes the past week or so. From what i was hearing it seemed that people were enjoying that he looked like he was fading. Seemed to me bora was draining O'Connor and ag2r this past week. If it hadn't been for the lousy 20 second penalty things would have been the same anyway the way bora took control of this stage keeping the break under control. Just sad for thise riders who crashed out or who were sick, hope they all come back as healthy as ever for next years season. Anyone know what kind of damage Wout did to his knee/leg?
The tactic of running through the leadout train as used by RBH yesterday obviously works. Has any team ever tried approaching the mountain as a TTT? What would happen if the three riders went into rotation yesterday instead of two blowing and then having the leader do his thing for kms solo?
With Roglic’ history I’m anticipating and hoping for a great stage 20. The route looks brutal and there’s still a lot to play for. I think we could see a really good stage tomorrow.

Thanks Chris. Chapeau to Ben for holding on to Red for so long and to his team for all stepping up to support him. When you are in the team of the current race leader there is no place to hide and rest , you have to spend the whole day at the front end. Ben like Sepp is a superb climber but like Sepp he lacks that explosive ability to deliver sustained acceleration on slopes of >10% - in the current WT peloton it’s only really Primoz, Jonas and Tadej (and maybe Remco) who can do that.

Vlasov and martinez are champions for their effort yesterday. Lipowitz did great to create that gap and stress O'Connor again. He's done it a few times this race. He'd take white if he wasn't riding for Primoz. He could very well be the future at bora. Love to see him lead a week long race next year to see how he goes. He got it all like skejmose.
What tactics tomorrow do you think would be best to try to attack Roglic? Try and get men in the break and bridge across on the 3rd last climb (the one with the long descent after)? Then push hard on the descent, taking risks, in the hope that it forces Roglic to chase and become isolated, maybe crash on the descent, we've seen it happen before? It never stop to amaze me how Roglic always bounces back. His team didn't make it easier for him by letting Ben gained 4 minutes and he himself came to Vuelta with still a bang up back. WOW, just WOW. How resilience this guy is. Whether he wins or not, what he is done is just so inspiring. Bora was superb this time, blew up the entire peloton and Roglic finished off. If I were his team mate, I would be super happy to sacrifice myself because he "sure" will come away with a stage win. Imagine how V-LAB feels now. They brought WVA to make sure the team have something to get out of Vuelta, incase GC Kuss doesn't deliver. Well, their GC fight is practically over since GC Kuss didn't deliver. Imagine if Roglic was there. No WVA, no problem coz Roglic can deliver the stage wins or overall win. With Kuss is more question mark than a sure thing. If I were riders at V-LAB, I would loose my morale. WVA left, and Kuss as the GC leader got dropped every single mountain. No stage win anymore.. pfff... I would wish the Vuelta finish sooner.
Primoz lack of awareness of his teammates must be a thing. George Bennet two days ago on flobikes told a Primoz story about 2020 Vuelta where he and Kuss killed themselves to pull Rogliz for four hours. Primoz came up to George as Bennet was finishing and said "this was the hardest ride of my life"...George sounded like he was pretty unhappy to hear it as he had the hardest ride of his life (from the sounds of it).
I don't think the ride was preplanned, I think they ALL felt extremely good and decided to go for it, so Premoz went along with it.. He still had the Queen stage to take the Jersey and will most likely be the best G C rider at the TT. You're overthinking it.
That's team work...there are many guys that can ride well but there are very few that can finish it off with a win...Bennet is uncomfortable in domestique role...but is he winner...statistic proves it.
That's why they make the big bucks as domestiques and not team leaders. Proves kuss was gifted the vuelta last year. You think pogacar or jonas are any different?

Tomorrow's stage begins with a 6.5% gradient 180m elevation climb "toute suite" ~ if anyone's having "bad legs" they could get blown up right after the official start(!)... but I'm writing this at 09h15 in Colorado, so it's old news already...
People can say whatever they want about BOC but outside Bardet, is it fair to say that he might be the best rider AG2R has had in terms of GC result? 4th at the Giro and TDF and likely 3rd or 4th at the vuelta
I was thinking the same how dumb it was to go all in in stage 18 … I get it he wanted to secure his 4th position from landa but he made his way to the podium more difficult and lost any chance of beating Mas. Worst, even Landa came in before him today
Would O'Connor have done any better if Felix Gall hadn't done a disappearing act over the last week?🤔 He's been on his own every time the gradients got really steep, so I gotta believe Gall would've made a big difference~🦋
Even when Felix was up there he wasn't riding for O'Connor. I know he's leaving the team but surely teams will want all their current riders to be professional and ride for their team leader and the man in red? That said no one on Visma ever rode for Kuss either, like Kruisjswuijk who like Gall has been very absent but when is in the same group their never together, it's very odd to me.
mas and co did normal numbers for their abilities, i wouldn't say they aren't in form, primoz did his best watts ever. only pog and vingegaard could possible follow or even drop him here. even evenepoel would be questionable to follow him here doing 7w/kg for 23 minutes.
Y E P! But why think about too much, Bora has got it together now! Premoz, again, doing what he did for Jumbo, making a good team Great! He does that better than anyone!
chris, are you going to weigh in on Red Bull team dynamics? Kind of strange when the team and their leader have no idea what the plan is. what if primo has bad legs? do you drop him because everyone else is feeling good? Like WTF?
I think they asked Lipo to preserve his legs for stage 20. You can't expect Martinez and company to have the same form as today after their spectacular work for Primoz👍
Nice fella this Ben O'Connor. Had he had a premium help and team could he have held on or this was never realistic? If you are in the Bora bus tomorrow do you go conservative tomorrow?
If the teams had it to do over, they surely wouldn't give Big Ben 6 free minutes.... What a ride by O' Conner! I pray he holds the podium, if not, it will certainly be a shame!
No amount of help from teammates would have saved it for Ben so long as. Roglic has top form (TdF crash doesnt affect him), no more crazy antics from Bora, no crashes, no bad mechanicals, and Roglic does not have a real bad day (he had a couple off days ;). So yes it was possible that Ben could win but not in the terms that Ag2R could control it happening. 🤪😱🦋👊
Nobody gets to 88 pro victories in their career by being an idiot. Primoz seems to know exactly what he's doing. Sure, he has made some tactical errors in the past but who doesn't? Thanks!

mas and co did normal numbers for their abilities, i wouldn't say they aren't in form, primoz did his best watts ever.
only pog and vingegaard could possible follow or even drop him here. even evenepoel would be questionable to follow him here doing 7w/kg for 23 minutes.
Chris, want to keep up with Primoz? Have a Red Bull. It gives you…wheels?
Also, should un-hide the R behind ya Fam; all I behind is H-O-R-N-E- :o
Ya it’s distracting 😂
🤪😂🦋👊
Would Primo be in the lead today without the Red Bull pain train?
Y E P! But why think about too much, Bora has got it together now! Premoz, again, doing what he did for Jumbo, making a good team Great! He does that better than anyone!
I mean decathlon pretty much left the pain train fresh by pulling every stage for O’Connor, so it’s to be expected
Yes. But by two minutes no. 🤔🦋💪
What is the Chesterfield? I keep hearing you use that term and I’m not familiar with it.
How to stay on the podium, clarity!
👊🦋
chris, are you going to weigh in on Red Bull team dynamics? Kind of strange when the team and their leader have no idea what the plan is. what if primo has bad legs? do you drop him because everyone else is feeling good? Like WTF?
Chris, why do you always call Aleotti as "Giovanni", without his surname? Is he also "your man"?😂
Was R. Carapaz a knucklehead with his useless attacks?
Only letting the gap open to Bora. But we have all been there 😂🦋👊
Can anyone truly explain what happened to Wout? Chris can you explain what happened to Wout?
I think they asked Lipo to preserve his legs for stage 20. You can't expect Martinez and company to have the same form as today after their spectacular work for Primoz👍
Nice fella this Ben O'Connor. Had he had a premium help and team could he have held on or this was never realistic? If you are in the Bora bus tomorrow do you go conservative tomorrow?
Not realistic
If the teams had it to do over, they surely wouldn't give Big Ben 6 free minutes.... What a ride by O' Conner! I pray he holds the podium, if not, it will certainly be a shame!
No amount of help from teammates would have saved it for Ben so long as. Roglic has top form (TdF crash doesnt affect him), no more crazy antics from Bora, no crashes, no bad mechanicals, and Roglic does not have a real bad day (he had a couple off days ;). So yes it was possible that Ben could win but not in the terms that Ag2R could control it happening. 🤪😱🦋👊
Ben folds five, and then some.
🥲🦋
First😊
ETA
I really thought Primoz was gonna leave it until the TT stage like he did w/ the Giro last year before he knocked Ben off.
Joanna Bam. Roglic may need a buffer incase something else happens. Hopefully it’s he’s got good luck for a couple of stages. 😱🤞 👊🦋🏆🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋🦋
White jersey is where it's at. Only a few seconds between 1 and 2.
👊🦋
Nobody gets to 88 pro victories in their career by being an idiot. Primoz seems to know exactly what he's doing. Sure, he has made some tactical errors in the past but who doesn't? Thanks!
National Vuelta-graphy: "The Eagle of Durango, whatever happened to HIM?"
Join us as we dig into this phenomenon of dropping from soaring bird of prey to hot KFC [Kuss Fake Champion].
Premoz left off TDF team last year, yet Jonas rode the Vaulta, I call B.S. Roglic, obviously would have beaten Kuss for 5 Vaulta's.... and If FRED Wright doesn't dump Roglic in 2022, Premoz eats Remco up in the mountains and overhauls him for the win AND 6 in a row! These are for real, think about it!
Primoz crashed himself right into Fred. That was not Fred’s fault. Sepp just doesn’t have the same fitness. 😮🥲🦋👊
@@dennisdoucette9373 And Sepp wasn't even there to help Jonas in Le Tour, while being frail, recovering and vulnerable. Yet Jonas gave the world a sterling performance combined with making Pogacar WORK for his money! Sepp has no escuse but -->> "Guys I'm still unboxing my GIFT from last year"

Top five 👊🦋
It's not Primoz's legs, it's his hilarious blood. 110 rpm up that climb is pure manipulation.
WTH, do you mean by that ?
I hope that's supposed to be a compliment. maybe it's over my head.
The best go fast. That’s for sure. That’s how you win. 🦋💪
Greg Lemond has stated that anyone spinning more than 102 while climbing is on something!
He's talking old school 39x23 gear.
Oh Greg. 🤔🦋😱
Great GC battle. What we all want.
👊🦋
Primoz throw down de Glove.
💪🦋
I don't think you guys realize, Roglič is riding this Vuelta with fractured lower back vertebrae. He almost dropped everything after week #1, but ignored all pain and frustrations and... WOW, just look what we've all got at stage 19. That's why I like this sport and that's why Primož Roglič will always be my #1 cyclist. 🫶💪 🥰 And if you all think, he cannot win TDF when he is 100% (with good team), well - think again. Never give up. Game on!
He was chasing an imaginary Pogacar 3 minutes up the road 😅
@@Eirikkinserdal Or running away from him again with 1 min lead 🤣.
It was inevitable, I figured Primos for the 🥇🫅🏼from the gitgo. Ben has the ole "It was fun while it lasted" now he hasta hang on to the podium. 👍🏼🚵🏼💯🇪🇦
Yep. Crazy how Ben held red for though. 👊🦋
