Even going as far as to put Sokka on the far third of the screen for better view of the arm is something you appeared to understand intuitively. The rule of thirds is a common staging device used in film and seeing you get creative with the remastering scenes with it is pretty neat! Glad to hear you're enjoying this project for yourself. Another great video! I think something that would help is acting out what the characters are doing (and even record yourself) to know how the animation should flow. We animators do it all the time and it helps a ton!

It’s funny how you say this. Because when I first watched Avatar on Netflix in 2020, it was in widescreen! But the shots were just stretched to fit the format. Later when I decided to watch it again in 2021 not long before it was taken off Netflix in Australia, it was changed to 4:3
this is truly incredible work. the 4:3 aspect ratio always bothers me when i rewatch the show until i get used to it again. wild how you were able to capture what my imagination was doing while watching the show.
The first scene I was like “hm, it’s gonna be hard, he’s not gonna pull it off that well” I’m so glad I was completely wrong, you nailed Katara leaving the scene, holy whit
This is a remake I could get behind. I would spend a lump of cash for a wide screen edition of Avatar: The Last Airbender. A team of animators like yourself could do so much. Maybe even adding frames and image sharpness. The series is already a gem. Adding polish is the only thing that should be done instead of what Netflix is doing.
man it’s insane how good everything looks! the commitment to keeping the spirit of the different frames while also changing the makeup of shots when you think it’ll add something makes this so special. glad i found this!
Not going to lie, this thought of remastering the original ATLA has been in my mind for quite a while. From 4:3 to 16:9 and definetly fix some oopsies that the original animators made (e.g Aang doing a weird twitch after deflecting Zukos fire after his betrayal in the finale of season 2). Since I do not have the tools or the skills necessary for any sort of animation, i did think of using AI in some capacity with of course the knowledge that hand made is FAR superior (which this and your previous video obviously prove). I now realize that this project, if ever fully realized, shouldn't be made or even touched by AI. What you're doing is astonishing and I hope you continue. Subbed and liked.
Wow, this is amazing! I especially love the shots where you shifted the position of the frame and agree that it’s a much more interesting composition than if you had just filled out the sides. In addition to your artistic talent, it’s really cool to see all the ideas, decisions, and creative problem-solving that go into this kind of work. I clicked on this expecting to just see the final result, but was thrilled to see you talking us through the process. This is one of those things where I think the process is just as valuable, if not more than the final result.
4:21 there is a huge vertical seam. You should blend it and feather where the images connect. I love this series, you should definitely continue! Maybe it can become a community project. It will take a long time if you plan on completing.
This is sooooo good I'm highly considering doing this with Kirby Right Back at Ya, especially since the Blu-Rays were released a few years ago. Or at the very least, the last 5 episodes that the dub put together to call the "Fright to the Finish" movie to give it a more cinematic wide-screen movie feel!
Sweet! Much better than the last one! The frame shifting makes the framing much better. Now all we need is a big public Google Sheets document with every shot labeled on the Y axis and a few thousand dedicated fans and we can have the whole show done in no time! Could even turn it into some kind of event where any duplicates are judged against each other.
The first scene looks great! For future reference, I would recommend not only getting a ruler but a curved ruler called a protractor! One side is flat and the other side is curved which helps with drawing circles and curves.
