Again, not to take away from your work at all, very good job and I loved the video!
This reminds me of when Billiam pointed out that if you watch some of Disney's early to mid 2000s shows which were in widescreen, you could crop it into 4:3 and not lose any important information.

The final product turned out amazing, hope you get more recognition and keep up the great work!
This is how talent is cultivated. When you have a specific objective or goal, you utilize your limited skills and resources to achieve it. Experience typically enables professionals to perform better than novices, but everyone must begin somewhere. You applied your existing limited skills to tackle a challenge, and the result speaks for itself. You might not perceive yourself as an artist, but you are undoubtedly on the path to becoming one.
This looks amazing!! For someone going into this with no animation eperoence you picked it up pretty fast! Water animation is natorious for being a pain for animators (especially 3D) and you did good expanding on those areas. Also, if you want to see the episodes fully recreated, I'd suggesting lookikg into Multi Animator/Editor projects. Making a call to remaster episode 1 this way would be bound to bring about a large crowd. I know I'd be down to editing a few shots and I'm sure many other artists, animators, and fans of the show looking to challenge themselves like you did would be interested.
This is absolutely incredible dude. I would love to see a remaster version of this gem of a show in widescreen. Hopefully Nickelodeon will hire you if this ever happens
I’ve been wanting this for awhile now and you did a great job showing the concept. Didn’t look bad at all! I believe they’re working on recording the soundtrack with a live orchestra which would also go great with a remastered version of the show.

dude, you did an amazing job. i never woulda guessed this was your first time animating. you definitely have the patience an animator needs as well, lol
Tell that to the VFX artists who worked on the Netflix show.... Can we stop saying stupid things like this? You can complement one person's work without shitting all over someone else's.

It's definitely doable, plus since the cropped part isnt the focus, you can get away with a poorer quality, and the result will still be amazing. Thanks for making this. I hope for a remaster sometime in the future.
This is something I've wanted for so long, a 16:9 cut of Avatar. And it looks just as glorious as I'd imagined it. I know it's unlikely since I don't think this show was ever drawn in 16:9 but man, it would be amazing to see it officially made. Would rather this over the live action. It just isn't Avatar without that art style.
very hard to make this good, but you did a great job. but i think its impossible to make this 100 % bc it changes the conposition which is intended for 4:3
Fun Fact - On the episode - "The Swamp" - as Tho was singing his song, after capturing Appa, if you look closely at his arm hitting the side of the boat, it suddenly disappears right before the Gaang attacked.
I was so pleasantly surprised by this video. Seeing the title and thumbnail, I was worried this would be yet another instance of someone lazily using generative AI to tack onto a masterpiece, but what I got was a very thoughtful and creative handcrafted approach. Even though you claim you aren't an "artist", I love that you approached such a daunting task anyways, and achieved very good results!
Dude. This is fantastic. I’ve been doing intermediate editing on Premiere Pro for like 8 years. Hearing that you “discovered” key frames at the same time you produced this, is incredible. This is fantastic work, on top of a fantastic idea. Hopefully someone in-studio will see this and realize a remastered ATLA’s potential. Seriously man, very cool work for your first attempt. I’m blown away!
bamn bro you put more love and care into these scenes than they did on their entire blue ray release and dvd boxset combined. Even if not widescreen They could done somthing to make it seem less blurry on modern screens.... turning the scene widescreen is such a big improvement.
Omg I just finished rewatching the animated series two days ago and had the same feelings. I would never go for a cropped avatar, and you do have the option on a phone or tablet to zoom in, but like you, and like South Park did for their early seasons, I want the frames to be animated out, not cropped. There’s just so many problems with pan & scan, especially with animation, where it’s possible to actually animate more picture. I hope Avatar Studios take this on board and give us the authentic widescreen remaster!
oh my god, this is amazing! i hope you're enjoying your project so far, can't wait to check the other videos and see more of it. thanks youtube for recommending this, you're an incredible artist and i appreciate your dedication to this project 💖💖

Incredible work and video, thank you for sharing, I hope more ppl check this vid out!!!! Although I'd love a remastered ATLA to 16:9, the og will remain a masterpiece forever regardless of the aspect ratio 🥹
You're doing god's work my friend. We can only imagine what netflix's $120 million could have done in animation, and you're giving us a piece of that. Thank you.
I'll say that this is very well done. Honestly, because you're adding things outside of what would normally be a border, less would be put on it in the first place, so it's okay to relax the quality a bit. Even with that said, this is amazing looking
Though I do think the 4:3 is a part of the charm, and the cinematography was based off that aspect ratio, I’ve always wondered how it would look 16:9. You answered that! (I was also so afraid that this would be AI and I’m so glad it’s not 👏🏽). Well done.
I'm not really a fan of doing this _unless_ there is original artwork that included this, which of course there won't be. Why would they draw more than was necessary at the time? Cropping is, of course, much worse, losing both information and resolution. I actually chose to watch the SD versions of One Piece over the "special editions" because who wants to miss half the picture? In all honesty, with modern TVs the black bars are next to unnoticeable, probably completely unnoticeable in the dark. I barely even notice the IMAX movies that switch between full and widescreen anymore. As such, I believe these masterpieces need to be left as they were, especially when fantastic content like this is becoming more and more rare.
I think that this is a fantastic exercise not only to understand the shots but to appreciate the background art. The fact you can achieve this within an afternoon or two just with your IPad shows how much our technology has evolved. Here’s the thing about if the whole show had a remaster like this It messes with the composition, if everything was considered for 4:3 then you add more for every shot in the show then suddenly things feel way off you demonstrated this within the video already with how shrinking it messes with the composition. Same thing happens with GameCube games where setting it widescreen any cutscenes look off because for better or worse it was built around the black bars and the artists used that to the advantage often times.
Wow, this is truly amazing work! You're a great artist ✨ The 4:3 aspect ratio never bothered me until now, seeing how much footage is lost behind those bars
I watched Avatar for the first time recently and this was my very first thought when I started the show. Fantastic job on these remasters! They look great!
For anyone that doesn't know yet, there is also another project called "Remastering ATLA" which is a project that upscaled the original ATLA to 1080p. It looks awesome and I watch that instead of the original because of the higher resolution
I was so worried when you prefaced it with saying "I'm not an artist" that it was gonna be AI or something, but your art looks so good you definitely are an artist!!
This is done great work. I prefer the 4:3 framing simply because it's how it was intended. I know you were trying to only expand the scene but by changing the frame to include more, the feeling of the shots changes.
Awesome video and great work. I have watched this series some many times, I have lost count. I think it is so well-crafted and executed. I wish they would release a remastered version of this. Keep up the good work!

They were surprised when it first came out and was a massive hit, and they were surprised again when releasing it on Netflix made it a world wide hit. They have never really understood the show.
why not both? I loved the live action lol
@@GurdurrSheWrote That's great, I'm glad there are people who enjoyed it! Unfortunately I really didn't and think it's not nearly as great as the original one.
@@naturallyamused yeah heard that too. it's really sad that they don't seem to understand their audience...
@@johannaflowers_ thats fine, im glad theres more people like me - never seen a show approved for two seasons at once before
Love the idea, very fun exercise! BUT, I do feel that there is something lost here. The fact is that the original creators worked within the 4:3 format so it was all purposefully framed as such, so the 16:9 “versions” feel more empty.
Again, not to take away from your work at all, very good job and I loved the video!
Watching this, I anticipated your views and subs to be in the hundreds of thousands??? Great work! Just hope the algorithm treats you well.
Wow, thanks for the kind words and thanks for watching!
Wow, this is insanely well done! Dragon Ball Z / Funimation could learn a thing or two from this..
This reminds me of when Billiam pointed out that if you watch some of Disney's early to mid 2000s shows which were in widescreen, you could crop it into 4:3 and not lose any important information.
Okay now let’s crowdsource this into the full series please :)
I wasn't expecting it to change the feeling so much, but especially on the zoomed out shots, everything feels so vast. I love it
You (as most artists do) talk down on yourself so much but you did SO WELL! This was so fun to watch
This is so ambitious and I commend you so much for giving this a shot!
I can just feel the pain from the process of all that haha, but the results of those few scenes look awesome!
Damn this is hella impressive, the fact that you said you werent an artist but then made these icebergs so perfectly and the waves. Yeah theres slight differences but you cant really notice that when you watch it. and the fact that you did all this on an IPAD!?!?! wth thats insane. this video makes me wish I could watch all of ATLA like this
Ok wow I practically can't tell the difference it looks like that's the show always was. You should do more and put scenes out there.
Anyone who draws regardless of skill is an artist
Honestly this is pretty good honestly
I’ve been dreaming about this for a long long time! I would pay for all 3 books to be in 16:9 in 4K 👌
"I am not an artist" I mean, if you weren't before, you sure as heck are now! Excellent job!! It looks phenomenal. Knowing how hard animation is and seeing your process, this is excellent!!
bruh...this is insane we need more from chunnykay 👏🏻 I prob cant even do this in my dreams😵💫
This is amazing! I love when someone can look at something they love and even with little experience, try hard and create something pretty awesome. I loved how you mentioned drawing icebergs was like playing through a level to reach the final boss, that’s such a cool way of thinking about learning new things! The final product turned out amazing, hope you get more recognition and keep up the great work!
Thank you so much!!
That’s so impressive! You definitely are an artist, don’t sell yourself short!
Sure would be! Would be a great way to get some experience too.
bro "simply likes to draw" and owns an apple pencil and likes to call himself "not an artist" ok buddy. accept your artistic nature
At the same time, he figure out key frames during this project
Literally been dreaming of someone doing this
This is absolutely incredible dude. I would love to see a remaster version of this gem of a show in widescreen. Hopefully Nickelodeon will hire you if this ever happens
Great work dude.
Big props to south park's studio for being on top of this and literally have completed this process for every scene in their show.
I’ve been wanting this for awhile now and you did a great job showing the concept. Didn’t look bad at all! I believe they’re working on recording the soundtrack with a live orchestra which would also go great with a remastered version of the show.
I'm an art major, and have been an artist my whole life, I gotta say you killed it! You said in the beginning that you weren't an artist, but you definitely have the eye for it! Can't wait to see more of your work
This is beautiful work, you should absolutely be proud of yourself. I hope you continue to do more stuff like this, I'm glad my YT homepage recommended this to me. I just finished rewatching TLA and wishing it had an HD version with better aspect ratios, this was so satisfying to find. One of the easiest subs I've done.
dude, you did an amazing job. i never woulda guessed this was your first time animating. you definitely have the patience an animator needs as well, lol
Dude I never thought of how much of a difference a wider screen makes. This is great
By doing this, you're already putting more love and care into the Avatar universe than Netflix did.
Tell that to the VFX artists who worked on the Netflix show.... Can we stop saying stupid things like this? You can complement one person's work without shitting all over someone else's.
@@thewatcher7940 I enjoyed the channel owner's work, and I'm angry at Netflix - so that's what I said, no more, no less. Somehow, you've concluded that I targeted the VFX artists. I didn't, and never will - I know what it's like working alongside those guys, so get off your soap box and stop getting offended on someone else's behalf when they didn't ask you to. Very presumptuous of you.
Here Here!
really blissful to watch the widening happening. great work!!! the waves looked really good
It's definitely doable, plus since the cropped part isnt the focus, you can get away with a poorer quality, and the result will still be amazing. Thanks for making this. I hope for a remaster sometime in the future.
Definitely a remastered ATLA with some extra scenes would be cool.
Good work dude! What a cool project (I found you from Antoine’s Chanel)
This is something I've wanted for so long, a 16:9 cut of Avatar. And it looks just as glorious as I'd imagined it. I know it's unlikely since I don't think this show was ever drawn in 16:9 but man, it would be amazing to see it officially made. Would rather this over the live action. It just isn't Avatar without that art style.
very hard to make this good, but you did a great job. but i think its impossible to make this 100 % bc it changes the conposition which is intended for 4:3
This is actually so cool to see
WOW, I didn’t realize how much beautiful and better the series look in widescreen . Why hasn’t Avatar Studio done this yet?
You have the chance to turn this into an entire series! This looks amazing and I can't wait for more!
Fun Fact - On the episode - "The Swamp" - as Tho was singing his song, after capturing Appa, if you look closely at his arm hitting the side of the boat, it suddenly disappears right before the Gaang attacked.
Fantastic, should be done for the whole show
I was so pleasantly surprised by this video.
Wtf man this is the work of an entire team!! You’re a master!
Now I only need this with the German dubbing😭😭😭
THIS IS AMAZING!!! Literally could not stop smiling the whole way through the video 😁
Great video. Love the originality of it. You don’t see a lot of videos like these lately
bamn bro you put more love and care into these scenes than they did on their entire blue ray release and dvd boxset combined.
I hope Avatar Studios take this on board and give us the authentic widescreen remaster!
a hardcore fan will 100% pay you to do the whole series, i know its a huge challenge, but who knows?! :D
Broooooooo this is awesome!!! I can’t believe you did this! It’s incredible!
oh my god, this is amazing! i hope you're enjoying your project so far, can't wait to check the other videos and see more of it. thanks youtube for recommending this, you're an incredible artist and i appreciate your dedication to this project 💖💖
This is so good! I can’t believe how underrated you are
Wow. That is some serious dedication, this would drive me crazy! Well done
this is SO cool and you did such a good job for someone that doesn't have much experience, gives me so much hope that someday a full remaster will be available
I absolutely loved everything of this! Awesome work man!
I thought this was going to be more of a recolor/relight with HDR lighting sort of remaster. Really cool that you are actually adding to the scenes.
Very good work for how inexperienced you claimed you were. Your attention to detail and ability to so effectively match the style of existing artwork is truly impressive!
Incredible work and video, thank you for sharing, I hope more ppl check this vid out!!!! Although I'd love a remastered ATLA to 16:9, the og will remain a masterpiece forever regardless of the aspect ratio 🥹
Very true! 16:9 or not the show is still a masterpiece
Best non sponsored ad for Procreate Dreams I’ve seen.
This is stunning. I hope Avatar Studios thinks about doing this. ❤
I know artists HATE ai but for instances of just complete tedium it’s going to change the game for them. Like AI can actually be a good thing here just keep it in the hand of the artist and not the executives
