Today brings some very intersting leaks, firstly with an AMD RDNA 4 specs and release date update and an update to the specs of Ryzen 9000X3D V Cache CPUs. Join us as we examine the latest leaked RDNA 4 hardware specifications, as well as an update on the planned launch date for RDNA 4. With RDNA 4 completely absent from Computex 2024 and the reports surrounding the RX 8000 release date a bit all over the place, today's news should probably not come as much of a surprise.
However we also have not only an update on the RDNA 4 release date, but the Zen X3D hardware specs as well. With Ryzen V-Cache being the strongest part of the Zen 4 lineup, many gamers are holding off on upgrading until the Ryzen 9000X3D specs and release date are revealed. But if these latest leaked specifications are true, how much of a performance improvement can we expect?

If next gen GPUs are half as strong as Paul we will be a-okay. If they are half as hot we might see standard across the board liquid cooling for first time in history.
AMD's RX 7800XT is less than a year old yet the 8800XT releases in January, basically the one year gen cycle we were warned about is upon us. Judging from the poor performance of the 7800XT/RTX4070 at only 1080p in new games it appears manipulating game optimization to push super early upgrades is a real thing. Planned obsolescence using overly demanding game engineering. The collaborative infrastructure already existed, the "sponsored game" model repurposed.

If Navi 44 and 48 are on TSMC's N4 node, then either those die sizes are way too small or the performance estimates are way too high. Navi 44 should be more like 350mm^2, which is between AD103 and 104 on the same node. Given that its performance is expected to ballpark the 7900XT, which is between the 4080/S and the 4070Ti, then that just lines up right. If it's on N3, then that's a whole 'nother ballgame.
The graphics cards performance has slowed and the time to invent something new since 1000 series gtx and since r9 cards... But the prices keeps going up...
Something much bigger leap must be found...

Who cares when RDNA 4 releases? Im not waiting around for it, its going to be a snoozefest. Gamers would be better off keeping their older cards and leverage frame generation and upscaling. Unless Amd pulls an Nvidia and tries to make RDNA 4 have exclusive tech or some other scam.

Best case i'd guess they would have a 25% discount to 7900xt/x prces, so $750 high end and $650 low end.
Microcenter has two Amd Bundles with the 7900xt at 1179.98 and 1259.98, both 4-in-1 bundles board, ram, memory, and 7900xt.
I'm trying to wait until the 9000 series to be announced, I think this month.

im doing the same, but waiting until september. seeing intel get smoked by any cpu with a 3d cache at half the price and a third of the power consumption, makes me a believer in the 9000x3d. it will be the king of gaming and do a whole hell of a lot of other things well too

Imagine they covered the IO die with an L4 cache, sure nowhere near the latency of on-die cache, but you might be able to get 256MB on there, and the latency to this would be far better than going to RAM. Wouldnt be surprized if some version of the Epyc 4004/4005/4006 came with something like this rather than on-die cache, or maybe alongside on-die cache

rdna 4 could be the best value in gpu history if they launched it in jully 2024....
I feel AMD need RDNA4 out for a end of year sales boost. Whilst there GPUs haven't been too bad they haven't been able to get performance increases as good as CPU or APUs. If AMD can get big boost in Ray-Tracing RDNA4 then boost rasta & Ray-Tracing in RDNA5 they could be back in the fight.
They seem to have a problem with scaling the smaller integrated graphics have pulled out some impressive performance gains with efficiency that just doesn't seem to happen when it's moved to discreate graphics if AMD could crack that then Nvidia may take notice and stop charging silly prices for tiny memory gaming cards.

It depends, I bought a 7950X3D and I'm able to test upscale models with ChaiNNer. It runs from 60 to 100 percent while I test them so a 7800X3D wouldn't have been enough. As I have a very old GPU, the HD6870, I'm happy to have this CPU. I'll upgrade the GPU once prices will drop but there is nothing certain here so CPU is my only option right now.
@@freestalkerdotfr6391 That is an insanely lopsided configuration -- you could easily have gotten a much, much better GPU than the HD6870 for the price of a 7950X3D - why did you decide to go for such a whoppin' CPU instead, when you're doing AI workloads such as ChaiNNer? If you mainly did other types of compute in mathlab and the like, then I could understand it, but ChaiNNer uses GPU.

5060 and 5050 won't be out for nearly a year, don't think for one minute they are coming anytime soon or even Q2 next year.
240mm die is tiny considering the 6700xt was 335mm
4090 speed for $800 would be a great buy.
Highly doubt it will touch rtx 4090 speed, Rnda 4 is supposed to be mid range only
That would indeed be amazing - but that's not the cards we are getting - the total die-size is too small, for both SKU's. N48 won't be strong enough for the price to reach even a 4080 Super, and N44 should be roughly an RX 6900 XT (not 6950xt) -- that's not a great buy. Unless they go really, REALLY aggressive on pricing, this generation won't make any sense for the consumer. I'm sure it makes sense for AMD to test various manufacturing-tweaks they've done, in preparation for RDNA5, but that's THEM, not us.

These will have to be very price aggressive indeed in case Intel will manage to release Battlemage cards in Q4 2024 which likely is going to undercut again in pricing a bit so AMD will have to adjust pricing according to those. I have a feeling we're talking like 449 ~ $499 for B870 Battlemage card with roughly between 4070~4070 Super performance at launch. The RDNA4 series card probably slots in at just a hair higher at 7900XT ~ XTX / 4070 Ti'ish performance and will have to cost like $499 - $549 at launch if so. I'm just happy we get improved bang-for-buck cards this time, I have no interest in paying Nvidia tax for the forseable future, I will probably go Intel if it's around that performance and comes out in Q4, if it gets delayed will wait for AMD to make final decision.

Less of a gap with x3d, just for frequency! Meaning x3d will be better with zen 5 than it was with zen 4, i e. Actually more of an overall performance gap between the 2!
AMD could probably make an 8900x3dx halo product with 2x the vcache for $750. 5090 buyers would be forced to buy it and AMD should put the money into Radeon research ...

Is only a single 3D V-Cache bad for the 9800x3d? or just bad for the 12 and 16 core versions?
It shouldn't be a problem for the 8 core versions, as these are all equally connected to the cache. Remember the problems for 12 and 16 core versions stem from the scheduler not being able to handle it perfectly.
