How to fish Moreton Bay shallows with SOFT PLASTICS

- This week I hit the reef edges in Moreton Bay with lightly weighted soft plastics. The mid-afternoon bite was pretty good with a number both snapper and sweetlip getting caught. Great fun fishing the shallow stuff as it is like hand to hand combat for the first couple meters and I don't win every battle.
I go through everything, the gear, retrieves, tides etc.
Really appreciate your informative sharing. Can’t wait to watch the next one.
Thanks mate!
Love your videos but especially this one! Seeing your passion even when catching more humbled size fish (more what I am used to) was brilliant! Love all the info you share as well. Many thanks!
Cheers mate!
I really love many types and sizes of fish hey. Don’t have to big to get me excited 😍
big fan of fishing these shallows, good bit of variety and you can run into some monsters every now and then
Used to be THE thing I did in Moreton Bay back in the day. So much fun… 😁
Thanks Pete, another informative vid.
Thanks mate. Tried to get as much info into this one.
Thank you for another great informative video 🙏🤩
Cheers Miles! Glad you liked it mate.
Thank you for the help the uther day at victoria point ramp
No worries mate, the d shackle?
Nice fishing and another great video of how to get it done. Appreciate the tips you give on your rigs and gear sizes too 👍
Cheers mate!
Hopefully I covered everything.
Always coming in with the good Peter 👌 nice video
sick video mate. gotta love a good reef edge session in moreton bay. That's mostly what I do in the tinny and you can still catch cracker fish.
Cheers mate. That’s all I used to do many years ago, so much fun!
Bloody marvelous mate. Can’t wait to get to Straddie from Ohio this Nov!! Hope to see ya on the bay!!
The count down has begun 🤣
Very cool, Im super keen to try chase some Moreton snapper in winter when I get to Brissy.
They are great fun mate!
Finally found a video of yours I can relate to…. catching pike!! Now I just need to work out how to get the the big snapper and Jew too 😂
🤣🤣🤣
Yeah the pike!!
Great video. We've tried a few of the different drop offs but haven't had much luck. Will try a few of your tips in terms of boat positioning etc. I'm guessing the same technique for any of the reef drop offs around the bay islands - peel, coochie, ormiston, could yield something. Thanks for publishing such great content, thanks Peter.
Thanks Lisa!
I believe that approach will work anywhere in the bay. Different spots for different tides and wind directions, can yield more fish and just generally make it easier to fish.
Love it mate I got a 39cm one last night ill tell yah where when I see ya
Nice mate 👍
Been awhile since I’d done that. Was great fun!
Don’t know how you get away with such a light jig head. I struggle getting a plastic down in the shallows with a 3/8 most of the time!
Patience my friend lol. I sometimes even go 1/12 and the snaps destroy it just sitting still slowly slowly sinking.
What depth were fishing if you could see the reef edge?
From memory, 4m mate.
Hey mate what ramp do you leave from to get to Moreton island? cheers
Port of Brisbane if I’m going straight to Moreton Island.
Could i please get a mark? I have a lot of trouble finding places to fish small plastics in moreton bay, the currently normally rips through.
This was just fishing the reef edge of Peel Island mate.
@@Peter_Herbst_Fishing thanks mate.
Do you use scent for your plastic Pete?
Mostly I don’t tbh mate. These plastics are scented already.
@@Peter_Herbst_Fishingi thought so as I never see you apply. Thanks Pete.
Pike are awesome. When you turn them into Spanish they are anyway.
Haha.
Now ya talking!
Great dog food too.
What's the rod you were using? You said 3-6kg but I don't think I caught the make and model.
You also talked about jew fishing and going a bit heavier. What rod and line combo would you use for that? Vheers
Hey mate,
That’s a Dobyns 702sf in their top of the line model champion hp.
For Jew I go pretty heavy, especially when the sharks are around. 12-25lb rod with pe3 braid and leaders 40-60lb. Can go lighter in the cooler months as the sharks back off.
@@Peter_Herbst_Fishing do you ever target tuskies and Jack's in the bay? What poundage would you recommend for them if you do?
Also curious what length leader do you run on your set ups? Cheers.
@@thedon9670 no I haven’t mate tbh. Think I may have hooked some tuskies in the videos chasing big snapper 🤷♂️.
You’d wanna fish pretty heavy I recon mate.
With fg knots, I’ll run a bit over a rod length most times.
@@Peter_Herbst_Fishing thanks Peter. Looking forward to your future videos 😊
@@thedon9670 cheers mate!
whats the go with your gloves? what purpose do they serve?
Hopefully prevent skin cancer on the back of my hands.
@@Peter_Herbst_Fishing oh ok, i was thinking sun safety. my mrs and i was wondering.

@@dazcam2674 cheers!
Yeah very comfortable gloves hey.
