This week I quickly stop at Monduran Dam on a work trip up north. This was one of my best trips as I fished a small area, caught some crackin fish and din't fish too hard or long. I highly recommend fishing the dam as its a great place to be on the water with the opportunity of catching some giant Barramundi!

Short window good weather this week as northerly winds start of the spring season. Fishing was a bit tough and all the action around the early tide change. Had some wins and big losses fishing shallow with the light gear. Getting 'smoked' is half the fun of fishing the shallows of MORETON BAY as it's 'do or die' fishing!
Back to Monduran Dam/First time for 2024

After a very long break, I finally got back to Mondy to chase some impoundment Barramundi once again. I was very rusty and made some bad decisions at the start of this trip before settling in and fishing as I have in the past and got the job done. I'm very keen to get back up there as I have a lot to learn about these special fish in this great location.

Quick run over to my favourite spot in MORETON BAY. Horse shoe bay with the family for a swim in the hot conditions.Absolute cracker of day in a awesome location! Just happen to have a fishing rod and the boat and thought I'd have a few casts while we were out there...

After a long time planning, I finally got out with Rodney from Addict tackle Tweed Heads. The plan was to target flathead at the Jumpinpin. We ticked that off and lots more as plenty of different species hit the deck on an enjoyable day with Rodney.

I bought myself a drone and the opportunity to use it came up first time out. Its not easy to drive it and fish but the footage is wicked!!
My New Sounder Setup

It's been a very long time coming but I have finally changed my sounder set up in the boat! In the video, I go through some of the sets in getting it all up and running, initial thoughts and it wouldn't be a vid without a couple sneaky fish too.
Fishing the Gold Coast’s Jumpinpin

Heading down to the Jumpinpin for a look what’s about. Had a plan of looking for a bigger Jew, try for some flatty’s and even a few bream. The start of the day was very slow but once the tide started to run in, the fish showed up and a fun little session unfolded.
Risked the weather and it paid OFF!!

Despite a very ordinary forecast I hit Moreton bay to make the most of the snapper fishing before the closure. Rain all day was supposed to happen but I woke late, checked the radar and sent it!! Glad I did cause the fishing was pretty dang good!

Back in home waters this week, chasing some squire etc in the bay. Bought a new combo last week and was keen to get it blooded. Fair to say I got that done!! BFS Combo Shimano callcuta conquest BFS Dobyns Sierra ultralight finesse 6’5” 2-8lb Sunline egi pe #1 Sunline Blackstream 10lb leader Biwaa TailGunR 3.5” Daiwa 1/4oz 3/0 jighead.

This weeks video is again away from home fishing areas I'm not familiar with and having a ball doing it! What was supposed to be an overnighter, ended up being a half day fishing but boy it was a good day. Great mix of jigging wrecks, fishing headlands and even had a look on the flats. I can't wait to get back there!

Away up north for work and had red hour fishing in the creek out of Gladstone. My little 3.5" Biwaa grub did the damage on a number of species over a nice size rock bar.

This week I'm fishing a long way south in Moreton Bay finding shelter from the wind yet again. I visit a few spots I used to fish regularly and find good numbers of fish that respond well to my ultra-light presentations.

Peter, have you ever chased tuskies? Would love to see some tuskie action as i think they are one of the hardest fighting fish in the bay.

Nice one. I just got back from a week there. Didn't see a fish of any kind the whole time. Yet another disappointing trip. I think that will be my last trip there. Need to find a better spot to try,
And also what is the big camera you use to film the fish if you don’t mind me asking.

@@landrover1155 cheers mate! Yeah mate the Garmin’s are going great. So easy to use hey! Hope to upgrade the electric motor to Garmin at some stage too.
@Peter_Herbst_Fishing great to hear mate. I went on 2 charters in the far north recently. Both operators were using Garmin GPSMap 8416. One had the GT51 transducer and one had the GT54. Expensive but fantastic. The pictures of barra and fingermark being painted with the GT56 were crazy in sidevu and downvu. The downvu images you could see the fishes eyelashes 😂. I have not seen better images on any Birds. Their electric motors look fantastic. I would get one but my Minn Kota will not die and will likely keep trucking for many years yet and its spotlock is bang on. Cheers

I saw the whole action on that second Jew, I was cruising and saw the school working near the beacon, didn’t had my lures ready so by the time I rigged up you were on! (I was on the JetSki) Cool to see you out there and keep up the videos I’ve learnt loads 🎉

i notice most of the lures are on the outside of the fishes mouth, i do fly fishing for barra in that dam, had five strikes but no hook ups ,these trebles have only to touch flesh to get a hold , with the fly the fly gets sucked in but not every time it will catch flesh, very frustrating

Do soft rings work for barra to stop is using the lure as leverage on the treble?

@@Peter_Herbst_Fishing i’ve seen American youtubers use them- replacing the split rings with heavy braid so the the lure can twist a bit without putting leverage on the treble.

what section of the dam was this i was up area B and friday saturday and fishing was tuff only got one 71cm barra which is still exciting but you make this look so easy
@@blakehutchison-uk6vw yep Blake, up in b last Thursday arvo Friday morning. That’s Barra fishing, sometimes easy, sometimes hard going but when they jump on, it’s all worth it!

@@presentlypresentingmyprese7058 1st 3 fish came on my workhorse ABU Revo beast hg. Man that thing has caught some fish… The rest are a combination of revo stx, the new premier ( yet to christen) and a few shimano’s ( conquests and bantams). Gomexus handles on everything…..

@@Peter_Herbst_Fishing I know it's very unlikely i'll ever get a Impoundment Barra due to my constant bad luck, but I will just keep trying. I also know a saltwater Barra is beyond any reasonable expectations I have, so while i still try i for them I know theres no chance of ever achieving that goal.

Great stuff, as always Peter! What is it about a Northerly that seems to shut everything down? I fished the pin two week's ago in that hot, Northerly wind and it was dead. My son was not impressed with my promised "prowess" 😂
@@kwakazx10r77 not sure what it is mate. I don’t mind if it’s southerly or variable in the morning and then turns northerly in the arvo but an all day northerly isn’t kind for my fishing in the past…..

Up north from dunwich..you’ll see heaps of white post (on a Bend) that you can’t go beyond as it’s a restricted area! Good luck mate 👍
@@Fishyboys1234 hey mate, most of the islands in the bay have a reef egde, some better than others. Peel is my go to as that’s closest to where I live.

Great vid as usual. Little fact check.. it is a he not a she. In the salt a Barra of that size would be a she. But in the fresh they are unable to change sex so remain Males until they die or get down to the salt (after floods)
