Thank you for the video! We have a spare room in our house with travertine that we’d like to carpet and this is exactly what we needed to see to familiarize ourselves with the process.
Genius man this video is some great guidance, I love a carpet household I’ll definitely need to use this for inspiration now I just gotta get permission from my landlord wish me luck💯
I love this so much, I'm so glad you made this video because now I know it's possible and you guys did a very good job...I'm totally impressed with your methods of application and install....Fantastic! Over tile WOW! Round of applause 👏 🙌 👍 👌 😎
The vid was great. I feel confident I can do this job myself. Question for you or anyone else. What’s the staple gun used for? Didn’t see it in this vid and haven’t seen anyone use it in any other videos either.
The tack strip gully seemed a bit too wide, although it is probably the camera angle and lenses. Whenever I am installing with baseboards jammed on the subfloor, I still use my Roberts 10-616 wall trimmer. I am able to adjust the depth of cut and get a very consistent look around the perimeter, especially against brick. I am glad to see another installer not using pad adhesive. I use duct tape around the perimeter and on the seams. Beautiful work.
Thanks for that / I do not glue my pad to the concrete, that being said I was trained that way but after seeing how messy it was to scrape up during ripouts and people with pets who urinate all over, I just thought that floating was a better fit for all!
Hey this was awesome! U made it look so damn easy! Now to convince my landlord to let me do it! Hate the ceramic family room. Not cozy at all! You might be my only hope… any ideas on how to pass a ceramic stair? My son is handicapped and the ceramic stair is very sharp on the edges (of course). We rent so it’d have to be a removable thing. Thank you sir!
Nice work. What if later someone wants to go back to the tile. Does that adhesive come up easily? Or is there another adhesive that works that will come up with a mineral spirits approach or chiseling? Thank you
This video is all I needed to get the confidence to try myself. I have a small room in my house which needs doing but I've been complacent because it's a ceramic tiled floor. Are the carpet tucker/tools a must? Is it possible without? I just feel a little odd buying all the kit for a one time use. Whatever the answer, thanks for the video!
Hi Keith thank you for taking the time to make this. I'm moving to a property that has floor tiles down. They are from the 70s and what I would call kitchen tiles, they are flat. I want to use underlay, but the carpet I can afford is felt backed. I am aware that I need to glue the gripper down. And having just watched this might be stupid question as you did state do not glue underlay. But lol should I definitely not glue the underlay? Correct? Should I glue the carpet to the underlay. I was told if the underlay isn't glued to the floor and felt carpet laid on top. It will curl up like an old sandwich. I hope you get this in time I due to lay in the next few days. Thank you in advance for your answer and time.
We’ll all I can say is the way it’s done in the video is how I do this / I can’t recommend how to do it without seeing or working with the carpet you are purchasing / if they are recommending a certain installation you should probably follow how they suggest
Thank you! The carpet suppler hasn't said anything about laying. My question was based on a video I saw laying felt backed carpet. He used underlay and grippers which was already laid. He fitted the carpet and spray adhesive the carpet to the underlay. In doing research for how best to go about the laying in a forum there was comment that if the underlay wasn't spray adhesive to the floor it would curl up with the carpet. Thank you again for your time and advice 🖒
I have a few videos on how to install carpet over ceramic watch stores are in that’s how we do it professionally and we have no problems use PL adhesive for the smoothedge and do not glue the underpad you’ll never get it off
Hi Keith, thank you for the video! Could I ask, I have a terracotta tiled floor, and will be replacing an old existing carpet which is laid on them. I want to replace the old underlay too (it is a rubber type underlay) just to freshen everything up. Can any foam underlay work? I don't need anything moisture resistant? I assume the rubber is an older type, but not sure and can't find much info online. Just checking what would be a the best fit! Thank you
Hi so we just moved into a house id really like to do this. Im assuming its a ton cheaper than pilling out our old tile? Also-this tile that you covered seems pretty flat we have what seems to be a thicker ceramic? Is ceramic ceramic it dosent matter the thickness it can still be done? It would be for my daughters room and much better for her walking on it and safer, not to mention cleaning.
I have really old tile in my room and near the door into my room a few tile have cracked from the way my house has settled. Anyway great vidreo gives me the confidence that i could do this myself with some more research:)
I have done that in huge basements what’s the difference of a big basement in concrete or a big basement in tile as long as the smooth edge or tackstrip is secure it’s pretty much the same deal If you can afford to remove the tile remove the tile if not there’s your answer
Hi mate, how do you then remove the glue from the title if you are reversing this process. I've taken the carpet off but struggling to remove the glue without damaging the flagstone tiles
What do you use for trim if you need to divide the room back to tile? J want to do this but in my apartment my living room is connected to my kitchen so what would you use for that and how?
Ilike how you unroll it out so you dont scrape the custamers paint leanth wise. like the nail bit as well in the grout. I put 2 inch masking tape from the pad to the tacks. about 18 in. or so. I did subsribe.....good job.
Hi Keith, Love the video I was searching for a video like this one. Question can I lay carpet over ceramic without the pad and just glue the carpet to the ceramic tile instead? and do I have to stretch it If I'm only gluing it down?
We had new house but the tiles laid very badly they are not even . We did not moved yet, want to hide the uneven tiles under the carpet how much will it cost if we go with same carpet that you showed in the video for 40 sqm?
Thanks, we're getting a carpet installed over old tile. I hope they do as good as this. My wife is worried they might crack the old tile; it's over 55 years old. I doubt we'll ever take up the carpet. I'm so tired of walking on this block of ice. Will it improve the warmth of the room much?
Are the Ceramic Tiles Salvageable? i.e. if you remove the carpet can the customer go back to tiles? or the strip tacks being glued to the tiles means the tiles would have to be replaced in those areas?
Thanks for your response. I have porcelain tiles in the formal living room that I would like to add a carpet on top. What are my options? I would like to be able to go back to the tiles in the future if need be? Installing strip tacks in the grouts without the glue will suffice?
I am carpeting over Tile. Someone told me not to use padding over a tile floor? they said it leaves impression on the carpet? Yes NO? I see how easy it looks, is there another type of carpet you would recommend over tile? Also, I didn't want to use glue, since its a leased commercial space, I don't want to commit to have glue over the tile. Do you have an alternative padding you recommend if there is no glue, or a different type of carpet type, squares? roll out.
If you have a lease don’t damage the floor lol / but when we used to do apartments we would loose lay the underpad and Loose lay the carpet right over top because people in apartments are also on lease
Loose lay meaning just lay it down and cut to size and call it a day? I’m curious too cause I want to carpet over the tile in my room, but the previous owner had also added tile instead of baseboard. So idk what to do lol
Makes the pad stuck to the concrete and if the people have a flood or backup, the smell will hold / if it’s just floating makes for an easy replacement and easy to clean concrete floor 👍
@@KeithShannonDirectCarpet makes sense. I'm working alone at the moment and of I just tape it the pad tends to move around when I'm moving the carpet around.
Thank you for taking the time to show us . I need to lay carpet in my sons room.
He has tile.
Thanks! Seems pretty easy. I’ll have to watch more of your videos to really prepare myself for carpeting my room. Never done a job like this before.

Depends in the glue really / when we install over ceramic it’s meant to be permanent

Carpet tucker li k is in the description

Depends on your region and the store you choose

Hello Keith where are you located?
We are in Toronto
I was told that over time the grout line grid will show through the carpet
It’s possible / use a thick pad to avoid
Ur gripper gap is to big and when u stretch the underlay will move as its not stuck down ????
Hey!
If the carpet is removed does this wreck the tile? I.e. if you decided in future to have tiles again, could you just pull up the carpet?
You could try to scrape off the glue but not sure! Once down probably always have to have carpet!
@@KeithShannonDirectCarpet just use some kind of solvent to remove the glue......gas LOL

Absolutely

I never glue down pad! Makes a mess ripping out and if they have a flood or urine from pets or backflow issues, you’ll never get the smell out!

Loose lay
