Fantastic. I don't do carpet but I remodel bathrooms and now I can get that gorgeous rolled look against my plank and tile.

Nice , I’m surprised at how many people have been installing carpet for years and don’t know how to use it
Great video by the way! Very detailed! Excellent! ❤
Thank you buddy
Awesome vid. Thanks so much!
Thank you very much, glad to help
Good job man may I give you some advice double up the z bar makes it a lot easier stronger...
Thank you
Where did you get that knife at? Looks niceeee
Nice work.
Thank you sir
Hey, next time you use z bar Cut a 1 foot piece of clamp down metal run the edge of it underneath all the way to the tackstrip and use the outside of the metal as a guide to cut your carpet, it will give you the perfect spacing with a nice straight cut and be fast! There is an easier way to cut to the Z bar with no extra tools required
Hi, I am transitioning carpet to a vinyl floating floor on concrete. Would I use the Z-bar and how would I attach it to the concrete floor thanks
Do you ever have a problem of the tacks coming through the carpet? We live in a double wide and are having to redo the carpets cause it's worn so thin the tacks are coming through.
Would a Zbar be a good transition on a floor that is all hardwood on the main floor but you want to put carpet in one bedroom on top of hardwood? We didn’t want to remove the hardwood in the bedroom in case future buyers wanted the hard wood.
Yes, that would be perfect
Hey been watching your videos and love them, I have a question though, Im putting in carpet in bedroom that had laminate. The hallway connecting to this room has carpet with a metal transition strip that you can see the rolled edge, I guess its more decorative instead of tucking the carpet under. My question is now that im putting carpet down in the bedroom how would I go about joining the carpet to carpet with that metal transition there? Do I need to take that strip up and seam the carpet? any help would be MUCH appreciated! Thanks
That would be the best way to do it if you can get the seam directly under the door when it is closed
I like the carpet rolled...I don't want to see the metal edge. My husband has installed for 55 years, and he always rolls it.
Can I ask you...Is it "kosher" to use a z-bar transition to "floating" vinyl plank? You had me convinced this was the way to go, but now I'm wondering if it matters whether the vinyl plank is floating or glue down. Wondering if I need to change my plan! I had intended to allow the z-bar to come slightly over the top edge of vinyl plank. I'm not concerned about the expansion gap here because this is an appx 3-6" "path" of vinyl plank with the carpet (and z-bar) on one side and 1/2" expansion gap at wall on the other side (minimal expansion potential in such a narrow path) I would be forever grateful for your advice and/or opinion! Any considerations I need to be aware of?
I do it 99% of the time, and I never have any issues, I do not like to use transitions unless I have to. You will be just fine doing it exactly like you said.

My husband, a 55 year installer, rolled ours over our vinyl plank. It looks just like the video.
@@karendrennan2811 Thanks! I actually ended up doing this as well. One installer refused to do it (didn't want to "pinch" the vinyl)....the next agreed but I didn't have the vinyl in yet, so I laid a strip of wood trim that was the same thickness as my vinyl plank would be...had them roll it over that...then pulled out the wood strips when I was ready to install the vinyl plank. Not the most straight-forward way to go, but it looks and is functioning great. I can't see how it could possibly be a problem
Video could not be any better! Would the z bar be good for a transition that is about 12 feet wide?
Yes, they come 4 foot long but you can definitely use multiple pieces
I have a room and hallway with the same carpet. I am thinking about removing the carpet in the hallway and putting in vinyl plank. Do I have to stretch the carpet over the tack strip with this approach?
Yes, doing only the doorway you will be fine with a knee kicker
Love you’re video. Just a question for you. I’m trying to do a transition from carpet to floating vinyl plank on concrete. Would I use this method and would I need to use a knee kicker also ?
Yes, this is what I would do and yes you would need a kicker
@@FloorsbySouthernboys Thanks for the video and it is great you reply to the comments. How do you attach the z bar and tack strip to the concrete?
Do you have a video on transitioning lvp to carpet
Right here

How would you do this if reducing down to a floating wood floor that is slightly lower in height? Or similar height? There needs to be an extension gap for the floor so that gap will need to be covered by some kind of transition strip. I'm not sure what to do with the loose carpet end and how to integrate that into transition strip. Thank you!

Why didn’t you mention the z bar trimmer?
I use a z bar trimmer, crain makes one, Also I put my stair tool under to hold carpet and tap it with a rubber mallet, this binds the carpet under the zbar and then come back with the stair tool removed. clean and flat. and always stretch away from the zbar.
I have two of those Z bar trimmers, but I have never messed around with them, maybe you could do a small tutorial video and send it to me through messenger explaining it to me so I will know how to use it. Mine did not have instructions in the box when I got it, and the other one was given to me so I did not have instructions with that either.
I have one and it works great
@@FloorsbySouthernboys think I have the instructions still.. I could text you a picture of it if you wanted.. But honestly it's easier just to use a knife in doorways like in your video.. sometimes the trimmer can pop the carpet off the tack..
@@jeffjunk yes, please I would like the instructions
I got the same knife. Whats the design on yours? I hate using zbar and only do unless i absolutely have to.
I will sell my knife in the next video talk about it
Where you get your safe tucker at the white one your using in the video, I asked fishmen, and they said they didn’t carry them anymore
Home Depot carries them here in My Town or I’m sure you can look at tools4flooring.com
You need to get a z bar trimmer from tools for flooring Crain 290 I see you use a wall trimmer why not a z bar trimmer get one you love it it also cuts to vinyl molding
I’ve got one. I just have to find a time to play with it and learn to use it.
Do you show how to z bar 45° angles..? Haven't seen any how-to-videos on it anywhere on the internet..
Will do
If someone is new at this they need to not cut the carpet underneath while trimming, because it is so easy to make that mistake. 👍🏻
You are exactly right
In Canada we never use z bars , we always use beveled bar or hammer downs, very interesting lol
Gotcha
I hate seeing carpet, from another room, peeking out from under a door.
Me too
23 years in so far and never used z bar. In our area we turn and tack or naplock metals.
I Work for many years, and I don’t think I started using it until I was in Tucson on concrete floors all the time
I love me zbar or we way round here fireplace metal lol
I use Z bar quite often, I never turn and tack
Problems I see with turn& tack and Z bar or hand bind, is when people clean the wood floor they hit the carpet with the mop, after time and time again it discolors or dirty s carpet edge. We pretty much use tap down unless they really want it. 👍
Great video like always 👍👍👍
