    I love BSG, but that would be the shortest battle in Sci-Fi history. The range and accuracy of Star Trek weapons is insane compared to BSG. It would be nearly impossible for the Galactica to even be able to land a hit from the distances the engagement would take place. Voyager's sensors and phasers would also completely negate the Galactica's Viper/Raptor squadrons. And let's not forget how badly a single nuke messed up the Galactica in the mini-series. I don't even want to think about what a full volley of anti-matter warheads would do to it. All this and I haven't even mentioned Voyager's shields, maneuverability, and transporter advantages.
    The Galactica's only chance would be to catch them by surprise, execute an FTL jump right on top of Voyager, and unloading everything they had before the shields could be raised. But once the Voyager crew knew they were in a fight, it would be game over.

      In STTOS, Spock advises Kirk that a 1960s nuclear weapon might be able to damage the Enterprise if its shields are down. With them up? Probably little to no effect. Phasers are shown to wipe missiles and fighters away. And as you pointed out, STTOS engagement ranges were typically measured in tens of thousands of kilometers. Tactical warp to range, beam out the gadget that maintains the Galactica's reactor containment field, tactical warp away, and watch the boom. Star Wars and BSG tech is no match for ST with one exception: strategic speed. hyperspace is much quicker than warp.

    • @pokes404
      @pokes404 2 роки тому +1

      @@MichaelAnderson-ir7hz Even then, I still think Voyager would have an advantage in that area, at least when it comes to an engagement. It's true that Star Wars and BSG ships have FTL technology that can cover distances MUCH faster than Federstion ships. However, these are also shown to need a decent amount of "spool up" time and require extremely complex calculations to be done. Warp, on the other hand, seems to be something that can be engaged pretty much at the drop of a hat (barring ship damage or environmental considerations). In a battle, I think Voyager would be much more capable of executing a strategic retreat, if necessary, than either the Galactica or Star Wars ships.

      There's always talk about tens of thousands of kilometer ranges in Star Trek, but we always see combat take place at on-top-of-each other distances ... just like in BSG.

      @@dmacbass It’s so the audience can actually see the battle on screen without the ships being tiny dots off in the distance. Honestly, the Galactica is probably also capable of engaging from farther out than is shown on screen. But again, it’s for the audience’s sake that ships are usually shown in such close proximity. However, bullets and other projectile weapons are never going to outrange guided torpedoes and energy beams. They’re going to always be outranged, with no ability to maneuver in close, and no offensive/defensive counters for anything Voyager is bringing to the table. Galactica has an instantaneous FTL ability that will only be good at the outset of a surprise attack. Everything after that leans heavily in Voyager’s favor.

    • @dmacbass
      @dmacbass 3 місяці тому

      @@pokes404 I agree that no one should have to engage that close in any realistic scenario, but still, what you see is what you get.
      As for the battle, tech obviously heavily favors Voyager. The only monkey wrench is that Trek ships are incredibly fragile by sci-fi standards while battlestars are the absolute definition of toughness. Whether those facts can give Galactica a better chance ... hard to say.

    The problem with all of these cross-universe battles is the tactics. No way would a Starfleet ship fight at impulse speeds against something like the Galactica, which definitely does not have the ability to fight at FTL speeds (we've seen both photons and phasers work at Warp speeds). Hit and run attacks, the Picard Maneuver, even the transporters randomly beaming bombs into the Galactica (which doesn't have shields), would be absolutely devastating in most of these alternative universes (B5 and Star Wars ships can't fight at FTL speeds either).

      @ryuukeisscifiproductions1818 Рік тому +3

      @@EdricLysharae No, not consistently. Both Star Trek and Star wars have inconsistent firepower showings, but star treks is wider, and top end trek feats significantly exceed star wars by a very wide margin. TOS having enterprise tank a plant killing shot and DS9 The Die is cast showing 20 trek ships destroying 30% of a planets crust in a single volley goes way above any showing star wars has ever had minus hyperbolic statements and the death star. But both setting have shown wildly inconsistent showings making a firepower comparison between Star Trek and Star wars rather pointless because you can get wildly different results depending on whatever showings are cherry picked.
      That being said, both Star Trek and Star wars should be significantly ahead of BSG, so the original point of an ISD being able to facewreck Galactica is still valid.
      I would personally rate Star Trek TNG Era ships and Star Wars GCW era ships as being roughly comparable on a ton for ton basis in terms of power generation with maybe a marginal advantage to trek, but not big, with say a Galaxy being roughly in the ballpark of power generation as say an Acclamator or a Providence.

    I think this is one of those battles that don't add up. The shields on Voy give it a significant advantage; I'm pretty sure a micrometeor at near light speed packs more punch than a full broadside from Galactica. And her nukes wouldn't be effective- even with her shields down, the Enterprise tanked a nuke at point blank range and had some electrical issues (Balance of Terror).
    I love me some BSG, but its just not a balanced fight- sure, the Bucket might be the Mike Tyson in this fight, but the other side is a freaking tank.

      In the episode blink of an eye, voyager was pelted by hundreds or thousands of nuclear weapons going faster in time than voyager before failing. Galactica would be destroyed in a single phaser hit. But the mods wouldn’t be fun I’d lore accurate.

    • @Sephiroth144
      @Sephiroth144 11 місяців тому

      @@kellyevans3254 Not quite; just popped in the DVD, and it wasn't nukes, it was antimatter "torpedoes" (I mean, I'm really thinking they were more missiles), and it was a few dozen, not hundreds. The last shot was a tricobalt device- however, the entire time, the shields were up. (The tricobalt device took down the shields, shortly before the native's ships pulled Voyager from orbit.) So, the shields were doing the lifting.
      Insofar as "a single phaser" taking down Galactica, depends on 1) how good the armor is at energy displacement, and 2) what era/type the phaser is. I mean, we saw the NX hit by phasers, and it wasn't a warship not did it have shields- and "polarized hull plating" only would go so far. (And when the NX "found" a Romulan mine, it was a 1/4 kiloton detonation; significantly less than the bombs dropped in WWII, and messed the ship up. Obvs, defensive tech got better by TOS, but a small nuke took out a chunk of the NX's hull (and from the damage radius, it was a little ways from the hull)- whereas direct phaser fire (on non-Armor hull- definitely far thinner than a battlestars) did far less damage.)
      Again, the battlestar ain't gonna win- but its gonna tank a bit more damage (though not really able to return any) than "a single phaser".

  • @Spamsmoothie1701
    @Spamsmoothie1701 Рік тому +2

    The reality is, given the technological disparity, I don't think the Galactica would stand a chance. Ship to ship, phasers and photon torpedoes would tear the Galactica apart in short order. It's been a long time since I've seen it, but I don't recall the Galactica having energy shields at all. Not to mention, we know the range of Federation phasers is around 300,000km by the TNG era and Galactica is a slow, lumbering hulk of a ship compared to most Federation ships. The Intrepid class excels in that area. The weapons employed by the Galactica probably couldn't even hit Voyager and even if they did, it's doubtful they could do any significant damage before Voyager destroyed the Galactica.
    Fighters would be useless. We've seen Federation starships destroy multiple small craft of that sort simultaneously with ease. With their targeting systems, fighters are largely irrelevant in the Star Trek universe. They exist to perform niche roles, but they are not generally employed against capital ships for good reason. In my opinion the Galactica is among the most primitive hero ships out of the major sci-fi franchises and it would have virtually no chance against any Federation starship.
    The video is pretty generous towards the Galactica here.

      I hope retro sees this but I doubt it. First, your theory about it folding under one torpedo is simply asinine. Battlestars are specifically designed to take heavy bombardment. A couple things that seem to be missing, according to canon the reason they relie so heavily on armor is the energy shield grid use by both the cylons and colonial navy worked so well energy weapons had little to no effect anymore, hence the reason they both used kinetic weapons. Next, let's say for a moment we completely disregard the story canon that attempts to connect original 1978 BSG, with 2004, There is yet another issue. BSG has a full on PDS system. Something Star Trek couldn't even get right in the most advanced showings. As slow as torpedoes are there's almost no chance they make it through the point defense flak from the BSG. Also, primary rail cannon range on a Battlestar is upwards of a third or more longer max accurate range of any Trek weapon we've seen this far. Meaning the Voyager, or really any of the Trek ships could have taken critical dmg before even getting into range to fire. Simply put, the person that designed and wrote the BSG mod was woefully uninformed, or just really hated BSG. And to another point made by a previous poster, BSG is a carrier, yet not once have we seen her launch all vipers and raptors.

      2: a photon torpedo in the star trek the next generation technical manual was stated to have 1.5 kilograms of antimatter. After energy conversion it is roughly equivalent to 66 megatons of tnt. For comparison the largest nuclear warhead ever detonated, the Tsar Bomba, sits at 50 Kt. However it is stated that the antimatter in the torpedo is mixed for weapons grade capacity, it would be comparable to an antimatter storage pod rupture containing 100 cubic meters of anti deuterium. Antimatter is usually stored on star ships as liquid. And 1 cubic meter of deuterium has a density of 160kg/cubic meter. If the comparison is indeed correct then it would be equivalent to a 690 gigatons
      , or 690000 FUCKING megatons of tnt.
      A photon torpedo can SNAP A CONTINENT IN HALF and you think a mere unshielded vessel would be able to withstand it?

Voyager had an advanced defense shield 🛡️...They would appear to be invulnerable as they dished out Futuristic destruction with their Phaser arrays and class 6 /10 PHOTON TORPEDOES....

    Seems like voyager's computer would scan and find a weakness in just a few seconds. Then one photon would enter that weakness and explode the ship from the inside. That scenario seems more realistic.

    The flak shield Galactica puts out should count as a shield. would have stopped some torpedos and some phasers though since its directional Voyager could just move around it.

      Trek ships phasers have 200,000km range, torpedoes have 4 million km. BGS would not have a chance. Phasers destroy metal by nadion particles. Vipers would be one shot by 1% phaser power. 100% phaser power can destroy cities. And a small fleet can liquify 30% of a plants Crust in minutes. Look up Die is Cast.

    The AI can't utilize these ships as intended. Not all of Galactica's weapons were used. Looks like only the missiles were used. While its nukes and close-range guns were not, including the Vipers. These scenarios need to be PvP.

    There is no BSG would be even remotely comparable to Trek level of technology.
    Also, whoever thought that missiles would ever pose a threat? They are slow moving, easy to shoot down, etc.
    Tactical nukes are something even the TOS Enterprise can shrug off without shields.
    Photon torpedoes travel at a significant fraction of C and carry heavy firepower (we've seen evidence of hundreds of megatons to dozens of gigatons range).
    BSG wouldn't stand a chance.

    LOL what a nerf job, true to the series itself. Voyager's photon torpedoes should have ended it in one salvo. The Galactica has zero beam weapon defenses and zero shields. Voyager ultragigaterawatt phaser array should have carved it like a roast. "Fire phasers ok coffee time and romance novel hour on holodeck gg all"

    Against the Galactica's class of ship stay far and stay below for the most part. Less guns or armor, and most of the galacticas guns are flak for close up or defense against missiles

  • @WUZLE
    @WUZLE 2 роки тому

    I don't know who statted the Galactica for Bridge Commander, but it doesn't have anywhere near that much firepower. It has a ton of point defense, four cannons that might be able to dent a starship's shields (but probably not) and some missile silos it rarely ever fires. Voyager is at least a century ahead of Galactica tech wise, this should be a one-sided slaughter.

    its a strange situation, because bsg tech is really old... they still use guns, not even rail guns... just guns. missile, conventional and nuclear. and their speeds are very g limited. same with their fighters.
    against star trek, the expanse and such, where distances are often as far as 40,000 km, you need weapon that travel at high fractions of the speed of light. really, a starship could sit at 20,000km out and pound it with phasers. or 40k out and torpedoes.
    its one of those strange "faction" issues.

  • @tonyf8167

    i so hate it when people try to compare APPLES to ORANGES;
    a 'rational' comparison of tech capabilities as depicted in their respective franchises will show that BSGalactica gets its @$$ handed to it; rail guns - stopped by navigational deflector, nuclear warheads - stopped by standard shields. on the FLIP SIDE Galactica has no answer to the photon torpedo, the transporter, or tractor beam any Starfleet ship can attack at faster than light speed which would render Galactica UNABLE TO EVEN TARGET let alone HIT the Starfleet Vessel. Galactica losses badly against the TOS Enterprise and were talking about Voyager here. so you want to go on about all the extra armor... then you also need to discus Starfleet sensors and the ability to precision strike
    the only way Galactica even comes close is because the game parameters are set to let it

    The Battlestar Galactica betta has no chance against Star Trek ships. Battlestar Galactica alpha will definitely give it a better fight either Galactica I can only say one thing where are the fighters where are the vipers half the battle strength of a Galactica class vessel is fighter squadrons they may only care in one pair of pulse lasers but they carry four missiles each
