I got his autograph on a mc donalds cheeseburger. Best day of my life, lol
Did you gain his powers by ingesting his autograph?
Didn't eat it, I kept it in my fridge for +3 years but eventually had to throw it away because it had mold. I got Alien and Ocean Machine signed aswell so it wasn't a big deal =)
That's really funny, and goes to show his autograph is a mold inhibitor :) I probably would have eaten the autographed burger while he was signing the albums.
@@pekkalaitinen8769 should've stuck it in the freezer lol, preserve that shit.
oh it was actually in my freezer, accidentally typed fridge @@powerforth8400
It´s great watching Devin being interviewed by someone who is genuinely informed about what he´s talking about.
If you like this, check out Loudwire's interview with him on their podcast, its really insightful
Bass player.
It would be great to see a single interview comments section ever without a totally brainless, meaningless gossip comment about interviewers...
@@df9319 stop reading the comments. Don't go to the sewer and complain about the smell
The reverse loudwire effect
"Unfuckwithable."
*taking notes*
Boomer Roberts just scrolled to this at the same moment he said it. btw, I invented that word when I was 14.

Devin townsend is devin townsend.
He is his own genre
Calm down.
Fact
@@stonevisionmedia But he is 100% right
Agreed. There should be a new genre called "Heavy Devy" with just exclusively Devin.
Deadhead will always be my favorite song of all time.
I've seen the Royal Albert Hall video hundreds of times and I still get goosebumps
Wonderful interview. Devin seemed so relaxed, and you asked questions that got unique answers from him. Very insightful stuff, loved it!
..i have to totally agree with you...I've learned more aboot who he sorta really is... 😂...
Quit kissing his ass
Devin defines all things music let alone metal so deep and real
Devin is a true gem. his sense of humor and style and intelligence is unmatched by other metal musicians. i honestly think he's the most creative and amazing metal artist of all time.
This. Fucking. Guy.
Possibly the most brilliant musician ever IMO.
Give Frank Zappa a listen.
I think Devin gave more than something fun. I would call his music 'metal of hope'
I don't know much of Devin's music (I only own Synchestra) but holy cow I can listen to him speak all day. His proficiency in expressing himself makes me want to dive head first into his music. He's no rock 'n roll dummy!
Get SYL self titled album !
Jason O'Toole His new album Transendence is stunning. The first Ziltoid is great too if you like a lot of humour in your music.
I'd say each and everyone of his albums has something special. Even his Casualties of Cool project is great even if miles away from what we expect Devin to do. A tremendous artist that's for certain !
If you're interested in more, I think Terria is his best album, and City is the best Strapping Young Lad album. And if you want to hear something really different, check out Casualties of Cool. It's like haunted country from space.
Alien by strapping young lad. Nuff said
Steve Vai once said he was probably one of the most undiscovered musicians in the world. He said that Devon was one of the most underrated guitar players in the world.
Devin is a pure, honest funny talented humble creative person and i love him for it.
His explanation of Metal in it's live form as a fundamental tribal moment resonates deeply for me. Was never able to put it into words.
"When people think of metal they don't necessarily think of primal"
Max Cavalera: dude?!
Devin is doing what a lot of metal bands don't do and thus loses a lot of fans. He evolves and it's a scientific approach to making an awesome sound
fuckin
science
called growth
only constant is change, & with music if it does not evoke a feeling, be it angry, happy, sad, etc. whoever is playing it is not doing their job
"Recognize that as we age, we change, and being ready to accept to critiques that comes from people who may have an investment in who you once were, and being prepared to walk away from that." - Devin Townsend
One of his tips from his webinar yesterday.
TheGreaterGood80 I love both, but my faves of his are the more mellow works (Terria, Ki, Casualties) and Infinity.
I have seen a lot of interviews with Devin and they all confirm one thing, the man is genius on so many levels, just focus on the way he constructs his sentences when answering.
Yes, he's a really good orator
So refreshing to hear a metal dude talk who actually isn't an idiot, and doesn't say all the same boring stuff like all the others.
"I was never cool" says one of the coolest guys to ever walk the earth
I went to my first ever devin concert earlier this year and it was hands down the greatest experience. His fans are humble, social, accepting, intelligent people and its so refreshing to be a part of that family
I really connected with Devin when he said that de didn't knew who the fuck he is and that the process of finding out and sharing that is his legacy to the World. love that
Devin taught me a new word today!!! Modicum - a small quantity of a particular thing, especially something considered desirable or valuable.
Fucking A!! This guy is so damn brilliant. Probably one of the most articulate people I've ever heard. And he's not pretentious at all. He's just wise as fuck.
Transcendence is something out of this world.
You need to make a full-length doco on Devin.
Gojira,Opeth,Meshuggah! Damn Just couldn't be more sure of my music taste when he just mentioned my top favourites :P
Niloo zeb Check out Wintersun!
This reminded me of something that happened to me and a friend a couple years ago. I follow Anneke van Giersbergen on Facebook and she made this post about being offered to dj at a metal club, which was her first time ever djing. Well she posts the set list for the night, which she got to choose. 20 out of 20 songs were among some of my favorites. I shared it with my friend and he was like "my God... that's like my top 20 list!"
Devin is such a chill dude. I would love to meet him one day
He's otherworldly awesome. He says the things i deeply feel but could never phrase in words.
I got to chat to him on the phone once super nice guy and was more than happy to talk to a kinda drunk 22 year old about guitar stuff absolute gentleman and a absolute hero!
how did you get his number?
Should have let him keep talking!
Exactly what I thought :D I love when he just goes on and on about things.
+Cats, Coffee & Guitars yes and awesome name
Could literally listen to him talk for hours. Plus his sense of humor is fucking great. XD
@@johno400 Bet you're loving the podcasts, eh?
Its so refreshing to have someone of this level of intelligence in the metal community. Dude is a genius
Dev's looking buff as fuck! Great interview.
Devin is my spirit animal.
he's married, my heart just broke! 😢😢😢
David Wendell he’s said in many interviews that he doesn’t seek sex anymore nor does he feel the need because of how odd it is to him. I don’t think groupies even phase him anymore
This was more like a friendly chat. Loved it! Devin and Sam are both friggin' chilled dudes!
West Coast boys!
He should have him own show, he is one of the most well spoken artists out there.
Nothing but love for the guy!
All hail Hevy Devi!
Man devin is super cool, and def underrated
Got to meet him at a meet and greet show around this time last year. Such a cool and funny dude. I ask him if he liked trailer Park boys and he was like I fucking love trailer Park boys. Then he went into talking about how he used to live right down the road from the trailer park they filmed it in. Great guy hope to meet him again in the future.
I need to find more interviews with Devin. He is so awesome.
Expansive interview, thanks for making us smile and be happy
God I love this man so much. Thank you for the interview!
Listening to Devin from the start. One of the best ever!
Great interview!
My favorite interviewer/reviewer interviewing my favorite singer. This is great
Brilliant job BANGER!
Love you and your music Devin! Thanks for always staying true to yourself! \m/
The DTP are coming to my home town of Perth Australia in May 2017 ...
will be there ready for some FUN!!!!
This is top notch. Banger brings the light to the table and Devin is gracious. I'd love to be a fly on the wall for this. Damn guys. Keep it real! 🤟
Dev is amazing. Love this guy and all he's done.
such an awesome interview, wish it was longer!
Great interview.. Love Dev and his whole team. Great bunch of folks.
awesome interview as always Mr.Dunn, keep being who you are, you are an inspiration!
ty
Great unique questions, really. We learn so much about Devin and what he's talking about because of the well researched questions.
Two of Canada's national treasures.
'Transcendence' Is my favorite album from any artist in about a decade. I fall asleep to it every night! Devin is and amazing songwriter / composer. Great interview!!!
Devin is in my top 5 favorite artist and seeing this video is making my day knowing he is so grounded and a simple dude! Rock on and keep your good work BANGER ;)
Gotta love Devin and Sam chilling and chatting about metal
Cool thoughts from him on how once he's done metal, everyone relates his work back to that. "Oh but you started by doing metal, so yeah" Like Steven Wilson now, going back to pop stuff, which people are hating since it isn't the prog he got popular with.
I really enjoyed that. Great interview. Very relaxed and gave me more insight into a fantastic musician. Cheers 🤘🍻
Devin is starting to look very fit! Through each interview he seems calmer and more focused, absolutely love this man.
He's been lifting those weights
Keep up the great work, Sam. 50K subscribers now, congrats.
The tour vlogs brought me here! Go sub to Devins channel!
amazing spot for an interview. the park off broadview street in toronto
This guy is a FANTASTIC interviewer.
It is his differences that make him so interesting. As a metal fan of several decades, I love that he says and does things that are so much the antithesis of metal. It makes it more interesting to me than the standard pissing contest bravado we see in metal today.
I would really love to see the full, unedited interview.
I could see his metal genre being defined as Primal Metal because of that chaotic, creative power that comes through his work. LOVE YOUR WORK, DEVIN!
Love Devin, and talking about Meshuggah and Iceland..
i've listened and played drums to metal, prog, etc. dream theater, opeth, soilwork, heard of hoglan via death, etc and just now getting into devin. i've dipped into some of his records but didn't like what i heard at the time - i was too into the catchy bad-ass intro riff's that you can blast with your windows down as you're pulling into a parking lot. devin is on a whole other musical level. his music is like a soap opera, you have to start from the beginning. the recent short documentary clips and the making of transcendence really got me into devin. I can listen to his latest song "Failure" and get lost... this man will really connect you with the music, thanks devin, how can i be part of your team?
more jello please "Failure" is def one of his more accessible songs (I keep telling my brother that it sounds like a proggy take on Power Metal).
" i was too into the catchy bad-ass intro riff's that you can blast with your windows down as you're pulling into a parking lot"
Strapping Young Lad has that I think~
I wish this was a lot longer! I could hear him talk for hours
~ this guy has so much character . . .
What I would do to just be able to sit down like that and have a conversation with Devin. He is without a doubt one of my biggest role models. It’s hard for me to even think I would ever have a chance to be something in the musical realm considering how the industry is these days, but Devin never fails to inspire and give me hope. I too was never a cool kid in school which also helps me to say screw it when I’m playing my own music. Imagine how people probably look at him now. What a legend!
Bless Devin Townsend and Sam Dunn. Heroes of Metal.
Amazing interview!
Devin's shows are probably the most uplifting, happy shit you'll ever experience
Excelente entrevista. Devin é um tipo de músico singular.
I just watched the interview with Charismatic Voice and got some really surprising deep dive answers about singing, THEN Coffee with Ola, and it was so fun to watch them geek out over guitars. Now this one!
Devin is the epitome of cool and he doesn’t even realize it. That’s what makes him so admirable.
Keep it up Devin !
Devin is probably the best communicator I've met. I took a bunch of his masterclasses at the Petrucci camp. He was truly inspiring.
what a great interview. dev, keep being you!
Adore this man, awesome interview.
What a genuine and hip dude. He is as modest and genuine as Aekerfeldt imo.
Greatest musician of our time. If you haven't dove into Devins catalog you are missing out on some of the best music you will ever hear.
He can do it all!
He is quite possibly the best.
I could watch hours of these two
Devin rocks! great interview!
Thank you, Sam!
Devin Townsend has made me happy!
missed him at the Royal Albert Hall sadly.
saw him twice though with Steve Vai back in 1993, when he was a teenager, and knew he would be one of those great musicians that would be an original.
Got to see him again in Bristol in March 2017
Amazing sound quality live!
:◎)
Great interview with an articulate guest. Excellent.
This has made my day. My friend and I came up with a drinking game where you have to drink whenever Devin says the word rain, it all makes sense now! Vancouver is to blame!
This man is a musical genius.
Old but just found this. Have to check if there is more with both of these guys.
yeah man i love this guy ...
Great interview.
Thank you
Fantastic interview! Thank you, Sam
I don't know if I have some sort of internal algorithm or something, but if I see Devin Townsend talking, I feel compelled to hit the "like" button.
Great interview!
My fav artist of all time! Hyped for the European leg of the tour, wonderful interview!
Fran Lovel Šimić Nice avatar ;)
Andromeda Galaxy why thank you hahaha :D
