Love getting these inside looks on the creative process! Thanks for sharing, Dev.
Hey there Jared or Dave! (or someone else). Glad seeing you here. By the way can you guys get RVP on drumeo for a course? Have a nice day!
"I'm glad that he was cool enough to let us in on that, 'cuz he doesn't have to. Plain and simple, he doesn't have to." Says it all about the respect the guys have for Dev.
Townsend is the Spielberg of Metal.
Well put
This is by far my favorite DTP album, and it may be the group writing that did that for the music. The ending section of Stormbending is the most epic section of music I've ever heard.
Dave's "THIS PART" face at 5:08 kills me.
Hey the ending is a cool idea with the band watching it! Can't wait for more!
DTP meets Mystery Science Theater.
With Ziltoid T. Omniscient.
So meta
After watching this, I think I would be covered in a nervous sweat if I ever got the chance to jam with the Dev.
i've resigned myself to accept the fact that being a lonely sociopath is the only way to make things actually happen that need to happen. it's like building a playground while an entire neighborhood of kids kicks you in the face, and when you're done they're like 'oh hey thanks' and spend the rest of their childhood playing on it.
i get that, but it’s not always the case. take periphery for example, for a prog metal music instance.
It's been cool seeing Dave go from being just Devin's touring keyboard player to his permanent second guitarist.
Looking forward to the next episode
jeeeesus. so Devin achieved singularity in 2009, it appears, and his level of enlightenment hasn't faltered once in seven years of solid tunes. and just think, before that year he was already a monster and metal genius madman. Thank you so much for putting yr all into this Transcendence album, I know I will adore it
Very happy to see all this. Everyone in the video seems quite happy about it too.
Devin I listen to a lot of Black Metal when Ive reach my dark place I sometimes need to escape and find the light... what I'm trying to say is your musical talent is like Zoloft to treat Depression
Wow, loved this. Seeing the band work together and then watch what we watched is pretty cool.
That was the quickest seven minutes ever.
Really digging the idea of the doc, incredibly insightful! Thanks Zim and DTP
I'm sitting here in my office smiling at the fact that you guys are watching yourselves in an almost MST3k moment. :D
If the song Failure is any indication of how this new album is, its gonna be fucking amazing. Cant wait for it to come out.
Just drove from Kentucky to Quebec and back the last couple of days. From Ocean Machine to the new track of Transcendence, my kids and I enjoyed great a road trip soundtrack, and now the wife dislikes it less.
Damn Brian showing off, different bass in every take haha
More band input sounds like a really cool thing. SYL's The New Black had a ton of ideas from the band and it turned out to be, although by far not the heaviest, one of the coolest sounding SYL records. Let's see if they finally managed to convince Dev to start playing less syncopation, since he's been doing that now since the first Ziltoid, haha.
This all feels so human, realistic and close to me. Good atmosphere, thanks for showing us.
Really looking forward to this album. I'm stoked that Dev is letting the guys have more creative input.
Devin, you've shaped the way I feel music for more than a decade. I'll be proud to add this new album to my vinyl collection.
I cannot wait for Transcendence. Please tell me you're coming to Ireland soon, I've been a fan for over 10 years and never gotten the opportunity to see you :(
personal fav artist, and imo the best of this generation.
Awesome insights! Thanks for these.
Thank you Devin for all of what you contribute to the would of music! See you in September!
This was a really Cool way of doing a documentary! Letting the band kind of "review" the episode you edited.
I need more! :D
Man, this makes me respect Devin even more
My hero! when i grow up i like to be Devin at artist and producer and comedian. haha
Gotta love it \m/
Incredible. Learning to trust other people with your vision and giving up control. Happy for you dev. I think the next few years will be your best yet.
Great first part. :) I like it, I cannot wait to see the rest. Great inspiration.
Woooow, Devin. I like it!
Can't wait for the other episodes and for the album, great idea to film this!!!
Dev using a KSR amp, too rad 🤘🏿
OMFG, I'm so excited right now. Just watching this kind of interaction between a bunch of great musicians is... wow.
The way I see, Devin is at the highest creative point in his career so far and, with his ongoing evolution, to have this "brainstorm" when recording is amazing. It sounds fresh, it sounds cool and it sounds Dev. Can't wait for the release.
I love how Mike St. Jean is now a full blown band member. It's always comforting, when a band finds a way to need the back-track a little less.
Dev's absolutely right to let other ideas in. His musical output is so high and I thought the songs were starting to sound too similar.
So happy to see Beav play a Dingwall Nolly!
Excited to hear ryan play his own stuff. dont get me wrong. I love every DTP album, but hearing musicians cut loose and just throw their own ideas and creativity into the mix is an amazing idea.
Love it love it love it.
So Excited!
that's a lot of joy in that man's face at 6:10
Watching these back again after hearing the record many times is so nice
love this
You can tell the guys are stoked to be involved in the creative process. That's really great. Can't wait for the album.
Thank you for sharing this. I love see how you get these marvelous ideas.
this is awesome!
loved this!! hopefully we will get plenty of more episodes.
always enjoyable to see these guys work on the magic.
my favourite band
Thanks for this Dev. Really.
Devin, thank you so much for making documentary vids like this. These kinds of things have always been by far my favorite thing to see from bands on special edition CDs, but that trend started dying out with the rise of the internet, because one person uploads it and everyone else can watch it for free. So thank you, for recording these and putting them up for all of us to watch. I love love love inside looks at the recording process. So excited for the new album and I'm seeing you live in October!!
Love you guys. Love the new album. Keep up the great work.
Thank you for making me smile guys. Love from Denmark.
Love you The Greatest Devin !
Love the releases so far and absolutely love these inside looks... makes me crave having a band again and want to go through that creative process again.
See you on September 17th is Mass, Dev!
we love you Devin, from Chile
Love how he represents emotion through sound. Beautiful.
Devin, thank you for come in Italy. I'll wait you!!!! Love!
This is so awesome. Not many bands let you get a look at there creative process like this.
Awesome stuff!
If only I could see this this set/scene/recording to have just sit here, just to be the fly on the ceiling. daymn,
I can't get enough of 'making of album' videos. I eat them up like Joey Chestnut devours hot dogs on the 4th of July. This one is truly special as it gets right to the meat and provides such wonderful insight. A+ work sir.
The drummer is just beyond fun to appreciate. He plays the drums like Clapton plays guitar.
Awesome! I love such in depth views when records are made. Especially when it's Devin Townsend, a musician and personality I truly admire. Hope there will be a lot more episodes from this. I even would like to watch a whole movie like that. Periphery just recently did that, and it was awesome as well!
One of my ALL TIME FAV artists and composers !!!!!!!!!!! DEV RULES !!!
2:00 and onward proves right there that this album will be great. Already so much feels and you're just jamming, it's amazing to watch.
What song is it
I've got Transcendence on pre-order already! Can't wait!
ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.....I want it now! :)
I love this. You get the feeling Devin is hard to work with because of the genius overflowing, but it's rewarding. Can't wait for new music.
Great video! looking forward to the next one. I hope to see you around Argentina some day! Cheers!!!
I dig it. Good job
my father has been listening to you since SYL's City album, he introduced me a year ago and I have grown to be a big fan of your work too, it is great watching the behind the scenes of your great music.
You are a huge inspiration
2:48 Devin's accent is deliciously Canuck here for some reason to me.
Failure (/watch?v=TPjHUFe4AKk) fondled my balls nicely, gonna buy it on Betamax AND LaserDisc.
I love you.
I pre ordered it on 8 track and Viewmaster!
Amazing band
Awesome!!
chile siempre presente! come to chile someday
Devy to me your the best beast of a guitarist, artist, by farthest stay Hevy \m/
I need this. I must TRANSCEND.
This is the most Canadian thing I've seen all day
The fact that Devin shares his inner struggles in his lyrics makes the music feel so much more real than many other heavy sounding bands out there. Most other bands metal/heavy lyrics are based on some generic dark themes that just feel like some cliche "B" horror movie. They sound manufactured and hollow compared to the topics Devin covers. The fact that he feels like a "lunatic" sometimes is probably the number one reason I listen. Really looking forward to the new album release!
you guys friggin rock! this made me really happy to watch haha
Hey Zim ;-) great idea from 6:07 to 6:20 ... the jump from the past into the future and then back to presence .. love it! ;-)
bought my ticket. Can't wait.
Doesn't break part in "Failure" 2:06 remind of RUSHs break part in "La Villa Strangiato"?!
2:05 sounds so sick. Can't wait to hear the album
Wow, I wish this was a 3 hour documentary. I'm going to watch it in a loop.
I listened to the whole album again in the order written on the board at 1:07 and it's very interesting how you get reintroduced to the same moods in a very different way
Looks like Devin is enjoying my KSR Artemis Amp! Looking forward to hearing it on the new album, and playing through it when it gets back to me!
Very excited about this one, the demo was amazing and the flavors coming together look quite promising!!
PS: Chilean flag power!!!
DAT CHILEAN FLAG
Nice to see you here, keep it up with phylosophy!!
Aguante chile mierda.
Se llevo una linda impresion de tu pais y parece un buen recuerdo de sus fans (por lo que vi x aca) Saludos.
Weeena Davin!
uuuuaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa.... viva chile cssmmmmmm jajajajajajaja
It's like St. Anger but I actually enjoy this :D
I don't think I ever really realized just how much of the Devin's music is HIS music. I guess this is the first time his band has really "contributed" to an album?
Only recently started listening to this band and the Transcendence album.
Fuck sake.
This album helped me through some very dark days after the death of one of my best friends. Thank you.
Very wise Man.
I like the meta-documentary footage at the end
R.I.P DTP
Hi Devin!
