Such a win of an interview. Great interviewer. He clearly put Devin at ease. Great format. Great length. Just a good ol' interview with no complaints from me. :D
Met Devin in NYC, nicest guy you could meet, super humble and down to earth, wish I could've gotten a picture with him but I was too shocked to meet my hero to think straight.
Andromeda met him a few times at gigs and they say never meet your heroes? Devin has been my hero for so long I was afraid to meet him but he is the most incredible man. People need to pick better heroes. Like you say, he is humble to the core. So thankful for everything. I asked him and the band to sign so much special edition stuff at the last gig, and they didn't care. They were so stoked for all the support. He even personally handed me a plectrum during the gig. So amazing honestly.
That smile on devs face when he compliments his album, clear indicator of someone whos truly passionate about his music, whilst not taking himself to seriously.
Yeah, you can usually see when the interviewer and the person being interviewed start talking like just any two people in the streets. For me, the best type of interview, but unfortunately most of the times people don't click and the interview remains rigid and formal.
I feel a lot of it is just Devin's personality. Hes just a very open and real guy, which is comes through very strongly in his music imo and is a lot of what I think many of his fans (myself included) love about him and his music.
Well he wasn't always that way believe it or not. Apparently he used to be this awkward guy that didn't like doing interviews and he was a batshit crazy guy also. On drugs, booze, etc.
Best dude on the planet. I can't wait to see what he writes with everything going on in the World right now. Side note - I begged him to let me sing on the next release. I don't think he's taking me seriously lol
I consider it a huge failure on my part that I've only recently checked Devin's catalog out after hearing his name mentioned for years. He is the Notesmith I've been looking for since High School.
Oh you're in for a treat! Probably best musical discovery you made in a whole decade :D. Be sure to check out all his records (including SYL) because his stuff is so diverse!
Satan's Rubber Ducky me too! :)) I've only found about him when "Transcendence" came out. I felt bad for that first, but then I thought that most people don't even know about him. So we're fucking lucky! \m/
Allegro Digital he is at least 6 feet if not taller. I'm 5'9 and he was much taller then me. I hung out with him at the Fishman/Axe Palace clinic and meet and greet.
Lately watching devin interviews is excellent for collecting academic words to learn for my degree. I have a collection of wtf are these words. But i know they will be golden
"Narcissism pays off."
-Devin Townsend, 2016
"Whenever I'm sad, happy, despondent... the only thing that can cheer me up is me."
LMAO
Truer words have yet to be spoken.

"Your progress revolves around whether or not you're able to progress after failing"
How inspirational
Such a win of an interview. Great interviewer. He clearly put Devin at ease. Great format. Great length. Just a good ol' interview with no complaints from me. :D
Yeah, man. That interviewer has a great vibe.
no and you're both gay
syphe101 sounds like you are usually an interview complainer
"He'll be back... they always come back." Best part

"He'll be back... they ALWAYS come back." lol, Devin's awesome!
5:01 - "Bend over that blue perimysium and take it in the shitter." HAHAHAHA!!!
"You don't have to get it in the Shazam."
"Ohh really can we try again." Hahahaahah 😂
That smile on devs face when he compliments his album, clear indicator of someone whos truly passionate about his music, whilst not taking himself to seriously.
Devin Townsend is one of the funniest musicians out there. He is always able to crack a great joke.
"feels like a night of love.....let me put something on that I wrote" .... fukn funny
It's sad that there are many many people out there who don't know Devin. He should be President of the world.
President of the Omniverse
Yeeeeessss
"Covert narcissism is the best type of narcissism." Hahahahaha
This is such a cool idea! I'd love to see more musicians do this. Has Frank done this game with others before?
This is the perfect example of Devy. So in tune with the feely touchy, but still so joyful and playful
"You don't have to get it in the Shazam"
"Oh really? Can we try again?"
LOL. How did he get to be so quick witted? Goddamn it
I did ask Devin a while back whether he listens to his own music after releasing it, and he said rarely.
This was fun.

(as evidenced by his early records) I kinda like how he's super chill these days. I'm not sure how well he'd be doing if he stayed in that place.
What a great idea for an interview! I enjoyed this. HEAVYDEVY!!
That was so much fun and entertaining. Please do more of this. Devin is my favorite human being. At least, for now. Suck it!
He is just such a legend! So funny and insightful, been a fan since the syl days :D
When is "Hevydevy listens to Hevydevy" going to become a thing?
The Mirror Hevydevy listens to Hevydevy is a really Hevy(devy) Thing?
You should probably watch the video for his new song Genesis, if you haven't yet :'))))
Best musician of our time. If you don't know who Devin Townsend is do yourself a favor and dive into his catalog.
Matthew Jones He and Jari Maempaa from Wintersun. Two genius
Jan Ro Dude imagine if they had a collab project?
Discovered him through Gojira's Of Blood And Salt and then checked out Deconstruction. Was blown away.
This made me ridiculously happy! 😂😂😂
Best dude on the planet. I can't wait to see what he writes with everything going on in the World right now. Side note - I begged him to let me sing on the next release. I don't think he's taking me seriously lol
Is it bad that I beat both of them? I've had an unhealthy obsession with Hevy Devy's music since high school (mid - late 90's)
I consider it a huge failure on my part that I've only recently checked Devin's catalog out after hearing his name mentioned for years. He is the Notesmith I've been looking for since High School.
Satan's Rubber Ducky have fun, you are in for it

Satan's Rubber Ducky try Wintersun - Sons of Winter and Stars. Good luck
had me at cray cray
this was great
Oh man I totally forgot about Punky Brewster!
The content described in the title starts at 2:54.
Timo Komulainen yeah, but the whole interview is great.
thegreatgambeeno Sure, not arguing that. It's just that sometimes I like to skip to the chase, and I suspect there are others as well.
Timo Komulainen you don't skip devy.
Great idea! Would be interesting to see this carry on.
Amazing, I'd never be that calm next to one of my heros
Ironically, I used Shazam to identify that cool bit from 'Higher' used in the end credits here!
I bet shazam doesn't work with Slayer or AC/DC...
lol
Don't bet. Let us bet while you try. Then, tell us...
Or Hatebreed
João Ferreira why?
Two of the most recognizable and popular bands of all time?
5:40 his legs are so fucking huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge.
Voojitsu he's a tall guy yo.
RedEbSeb13 he injured his right leg during this recent tour, causing it to swell up
he's actually pretty average height, definitely not 6'
Allegro Digital he is at least 6 feet if not taller. I'm 5'9 and he was much taller then me. I hung out with him at the Fishman/Axe Palace clinic and meet and greet.
Allegro Digital I shook his hand at a show once, face to face. He's taller than me and I'm 5'11"
This was fantastic!
Do this with more musicians! Although it'd probably be too easy for the ones with relatively small discographies.
Right in the shazam :D
Hahaha, he's such a fun guy !
What's the name of the first Devin song that plays around 2:55 when the interviewer says they're gonna play a game? Please, I need to know!
Alex Bland Higher I think
Good ol' Hevy Devy
I miss Devin, seen him in this type of video makes me feel like its kinda famous friend haha, he is just a great guy
Gotta love him.
Lately watching devin interviews is excellent for collecting academic words to learn for my degree. I have a collection of wtf are these words. But i know they will be golden
I want to have a beer with Devin. He seems like a fun guy to hang out with.
haha some of these i got before even devin did
RIGHT IN THE CHOCOLATE SHAZAM
WE NEED MORE OF THIS GAME WITH OTHER MUSICIANS
what's the song at 3:33?
Tudor Planet Smasher
Interviews like this remind me just why Devin is a god amongst men
it put a smile on my face seein that he still knows his syl stuff
He is the Frank Zappa of metal.
Is there no one who likes Heavy as a Really Heavy Thing? It's my favorite album by him.
Devin Townsend = the man. Amazing, amazing musician!!
"Can we try again" 😂
What's the song he named after Underneath the Waves? It's hard for me to hear him
Pen and Paper, Planet Smasher
which one is the last song? (during the credits)
opening and ending are both "Higher" off Transcendence
Emilio Sfeir the breakdown in that song, so cool. Like Zeus on the mountain top.
Ahhhh god fucking damn. I love that man.
I LOVE this guy :D :D :D :D :D
I wonder how many Devin would've gotten right if he could hear them on some actual *REAL speakers* ...
Two of the greatest modern musical inventions are Devin Townsend & Shazam.
Devin is so awesome.
I was expecting a superhero wizard.
Brilliant!
3:47 lmao!
There was a hint of Bob McKenzie in there
"I wanna hear me."
This is fucking hilarious.
good shit!
What's the name of the 2nd song? something magic
Chris WIlliams Planet Smasher from Ziltoid the Omniscient. That's not Devy's growl, it's Chuck Billy from Testament.
frank's wearing a Taake shirt :^)
haha that was amazing
hahaha devin always cracks me up xD
24 albums thats just too much
Im NOAH tell buckethead that
There is no such thing as too much Devy
@Boomer Roberts Indeed!!
not enough
what does "too much" even mean when it comes to music?
Lmao @ Dev xD
This guy is hilarious
Goddamnit he is the worlds best human!
Devin's stoned :D
do this with 5FDP or Metallica
Just a regular ol interview
What early failures?
hilarious ! :D
Devin 💙
lmfao let me put on something i wrote haha
I really can't believe it took him 40 sec to guess Underneath the Waves. Wow
He doesn't mess with Strapping material at all. He's totally over that period of his career. Sad, but true.
Awful haircut
