You can pop the plastic lens off the dial calipers & clean the rust stains off with vinegar then put it back on or just leave it off

The bearing separator has a ball bearing in the end of the shaft that's supposed to act the same. It works until the end of it gets messed up

I agree, it is supposed to have that little bearing. Apparently it's missing in action on mine. Thanks for checking out the video! Have a great day!

Where are you at, I need to change my pinion bearings. And I am not confident enough, I’m near Crossville. I have a 2001 Jeep WJ 4.7 Quadra drive. Front differential is not good. I have taken the drive shaft out to hopefully not cause more damage. Do you know what it would cost for me to have it done, and who…. Thanks your video was very informative, but a little more than I can do, but would love to learn with someone who knows what they are doing.

I’m working on a LP Dana 30 for my 2000 xj with a crush sleeve. Setting preload similar process? Upon removal of my old races and bearings. The only shims were on the carrier bearings.

Crush sleeve is a different set up. I don't have a video on that one.

At 15:30, what torque did you tighten the pinion nut to?

As I said in the video I just gave it a good hard snug. If the pinion pre-load is close then I'll tighten it closer to spec. In this case, the pinion pre-load was too tight with just a "hard snug" if I had tightened it down to spec the pinion may not have turned at all or even possibly damaged the bearing or race. So, in short, don't worry about the actual pinion nut torque spec until the pinion bearing preload is close. Once it is close then start torquing it down to spec to check the preload.
