So good to see Ezra and Simon so excited and happy! Awesome big brother surprise, Mark! Especially Ezra is such a happy boy in general, I think the world can actually learn a lot from HIM❤ Watching his happiness made me happy stim in return😄
My family went to Disney World (still have to go to Disneyland!) when I was 5 years old and I remember most of the rides were very overstimulating for me visually and auditorily similar to Ezra, and at some point I actually ended up in a sensory meltdown. I did enjoy meeting the Disney characters, the "quiet rides" and loved the water rides! There is something about water and autism, I feel like a lot of autistic people are drawn to water.

He did!😊 We just had to help him since he wanted to throw them. And they belonged to our neighbors so we didn't want him to break them. He got to hold one though.❤️❤️

Simon is potty trained, and with Ezra we are in the middle of potty training him😊

A friend took his family to Disney, and mistakenly wore a Millennium Falcon T shirt to the Star Wars area. He was accosted by a storm trooper. The kid really knew his part and it was hilarious!

As you work more with Ezra “Hi and Bye (and perhaps some simple words for pee and poop)” would be some good words to teach him. If he learns those words (and how to say them) it might help him to finish his toilet training.
Specifically he might be able to say something like “Bye pee!”, or “Bye poo!” (After waving) before flushing the toilet. From what I remember I did not go through this but many kids do as one of the final parts of their daytime training.
If Ezra doesn’t go through that don’t worry too much you should still be able to find tips on Elimination Communication blogs to help him to keep as clean and dry as he is developmentally ready for even if he isn’t quite ready to complete traditional toilet training just yet.
Don’t worry, he will probably get there eventually as long as you keep at it for as long as it takes.

I don’t handle surprises well. If someone came to my door in a Star Wars outfit unexpectedly I would probably slam and lock the door and then run. I would expect either Simon or Ezra to react in that way (if not both of them).
If that happened to me too I would be nervous about it too. I don’t know if you can tell by the video, but Simon did not know what to do and he looked fairly scared at first. After I laughed and smiled, and he noticed my positive reaction then he thought it was more fun. I think he looked to me on knowing how to react in this very odd situation
One of my cousins is a lot like Simon personality-wise and when he was four his vocabulary was similar to where Simon’s is right now.
He also tended to show signs of nervousness including putting his fingers in his mouth in situations like Simon’s surprise in this video.
He’s now in his late thirties or early forties and has mostly outgrown such responses to stress.
He could be level one like Simon but back in the 1980s they did not usually test for autism even if a family history of it exists,

It’s good that Simon knows the words blue and green. He may need to work on his rs with his speech therapist. That was not addressed when I was growing up and I still struggle with saying my rs correctly (they usually come out sounding like either an “uh” sound or a “w” sound) even now well-into my 40s.
I hope to get a job later this year in computer networking (after taking and passing another exam or two) but I wonder if anyone would hire someone as either a network engineer or a network designer who cannot properly pronounce “Network Engineer” or “Network Designer”.
Why there are so many words in the English Language with the letter “r” in them I’ll never know.
I had a hard time with that as well

I have 3 children and 2 are autistic. My 23 year old is non verbal. We never could get her to communicate with any devices. She just plays with them like a toy and pushes the same buttons over and over. How did you get Ezra to use his? My 3 year old son does have words, but doesn’t ask questions or ask for things…so he may be just repeating things without understanding. Also, where did you get the high chair you use for Ezra? I can’t find one big enough for my 3 year old son and we cannot keep him still long enough to eat or try to keep his attention for very long. Thank you for sharing!
Great question! We worked with him for 5 years before he started using it. It was a long process but he will use it more and more, sometimes even on his own, but usually only when he is prompted. Every child is different. We had to try many things before we could get him to use it. Hope this helps❤️
