**Clearly** we've been busy... doing something I never imagined we'd do, but, that's Project GT6R for you! Happy Canada Day long weekend, and 4th of July to my friends south of the border 🎉 hope this gets the celebrations off to a great start! Special thanks as always to our amazing supporters! www.patreon.com/FanatikBuilds
As usual, completely brilliant - this is my very favourite series on UA-cam and the development of this car over the years has been a joy to watch. I await series production of this model though! A small run of a thousand maybe ! :-)
Happy Canada day! I was in Wakefield, Quebec for Canada Day in the mid 2000's, and I got to see the Snowbirds fly over on their way to buzz Ottawa. That's when the guy next to me said "I hope they are ours." To which I replied, "If not, you're being invaded." His reply was "I can't believe I just said that in front of a Yank". LOL! Beautiful work on the car and the wipers! I always love to see that you've dropped a new video. :)
You take so long to put out a vlog I forgot the name of your channel thought about you the other day I love what you're doing you're not customizing you're crafting even better the level of workmanship is top notch and in ontario that's even better I love Canadian content and subscribe to over 300 channels lots of the canadian channels this cars going to be EPIC! yeah I said it you've made it look like it came factory not lie a rat rod cobbled together but designed engineered to be perfect one of the coolest builds on youtube
Hands-down, one of the best projects I’ve encountered on UA-cam. Thoroughly enjoying the journey of this little GT6. On a sidenote, there is one in Orlando available right now that is a pretty decent example. An old man has owned it since 1984. It’s pretty rust free if anybody is interested in acquiring a Triumph GT6
Cheers Jake, that means a great deal to me! 😊 ...Oh man, to have started with a rust free body... 😅 better to keep one in that condition more original though, ours was about to return to the earth!
I always look forward to your next offering of excellence so I can again be amazed at your incredible creations! Your quality of work is always unbelievable and awe-inspiring! I run out of adjectives when describing your efforts and spend most of the time watching your videos with my mouth wide open! Thank you, and again - thank you!
I keep thinking I ought to say something about... or ask about... whether you have incorporated some mechanism to weight the wipers to the windshield. After all, you are in Canada and I understand you occasionally get a little snow and sleet up there. But what am I thinking?!? You are NOT going to be driving THIS car on snowy/icy roads... this tiny powerhouse of a car with a power-to-weight ratio that's... what?... 2 times that of a Lamborghini? I'm not sure grandma even could drive the car gingerly enough that it would go ANYWHERE on slippery roads. Seriously, if you were planning on driving it in sleet and snow you would ALREADY have engineered spikes for your tires or something. (lol) Great to see another upload. Thanks for sharing this project with us.
Haha, well, we have upgraded the pretension, but some stronger springs may still be in order! As you point out though Tyler, this is a 3 season car only! We've got Subarus and snow tires for the white fluffy stuff 😎✌️ All the best to ya and have a great weekend!
Well done Michael and dad, that's a very neat home brew solution to the Lucas wiper system! As ever you guys inspire me to do more creative things with my project rather than giving the plastic a bash. Looking forward to the next episode ñ
Cheers David! I just couldn't bring myself to put the old stuff back on, and I'm always up for saving cash while improving design! Time doesn't come into it I guess 😂 ... have a great weekend and hopefully Ep39 will be out end of next month, I've been trying to increase my production schedule! ✌️
Haha, not that I wouldn't love a machine shop at my disposal! 😅 the lathe is a game changer though, hopefully I'll have the space for a mini mill someday too! Cheers Brian, that means a lot 😊✌️Have a great weekend!
It never rains here in dear old blighty, just don't blink when the suns out! Crazy expert ability with the angle grinder, you're the UA-cam boss as far as that goes, and this is my favourite channel for banter and ingenuity. I'm not biased of course, having owned an original Mk2 back in the day. Keep that walnut dash if you can, and the after market centre section with the additional instruments, but I think you have plans for all of that...
Haha, ah, I see! 😉 Thanks man, that means a ton to me, I'm so glad you enjoy the project! We may or may not keep the wood interior, but it's still up for debate, I'm not 100% settled on design just yet! 😊👍 Have a great weekend!
Thanks Adam, just couldn't justify it myself! My time comes cheap 😅 ... though, the channel is about building stuff, so at least I got some content from it! 😎✌️
Is that 3 videos in 1 month? does that mean you're taking the next 3 months off? 😂 I like the effort you've put into those wiper arms, keeping them factory-ish keeps the look of the car, I'd hate to see it with all its chrome trim on but then those black modern lumps flapping in the breeze. Hows your old man doing these days? has he fully recovered cause he's looking well
Haha, I've been trying to up my game but no, not quite there yet! 😉 I've had one a month for the last 4 months though, so it's a start! Hopefully will be able to keep that up going forward, it's just a ton of work to pull off! 😅 Yeah they just *had* to be polished, we'll be de-chroming some parts as the old metal is too far gone and our pockets don't extend to getting it all fixed/repaired, but it definitely needs some shiny bits here and there, for sure! Dad's doing well post-stroke, hasn't affected his golf game at all 😉 thanks so much for asking! 🙏
Please don't wear gloves when using the lathe! (preferably not long sleeves either). I did 70,000 miles in my Spitfire, and never had an issue with the wipers apart from the park switch.
Yep 😉 3:51 ... so long as you know the rules, you can break them right? I was keeping a close eye out, and the machine has very little torque at low RPM. Best to avoid it altogether though, you're right, and thanks for being concerned for me! 🙏 Plenty of people have not had issues like you, but with ours being in such a state it needed everything anyways. This was actually cheaper than just fixing it with OEM parts 👍
And why not! You two have been building this to a level and form way upgraded from originality. It would have been a shame to have compromised the integrity of the build by using the inferior and worn out factory set up. It was very interesting watching the solution unfold. Congratulations! Looking forward to whatever is next
Thanks so much Ron, I just couldn't bring myself to put the old stuff back on! 😊 Next episode will finish off the system and begin to unfold the big picture! Cheers and all the best to ya 👍
Staggering skills and even more patience . Congratulations to you both . ......l was trying to guess a time. 40 hours plus ? Never to be seen or appreciated 😊
Oh gosh I have no idea! 😅 I've never really tracked hours on this project as we're easily in the thousands! This video was compressed from 6hrs of footage alone, so yeah, 30-40hrs is probably close! Thank you John, it *is* appreciated, and it means a lot! ✌️
Haha, I was not very comfortable with the good old grinder when we started this project, but it's become a sort of appendage! 😅 Thanks Rob, means a lot! 🙏
Loving the progress regardless of speed! deffo a good idea upgrading the stock wipers as they are terrible stock. Nice to see the lathe come into play too, even a small bench lathe like yours can provide an amazing amount of usefulness in a small footprint, especially when space is at a premium. Keep up the good work guys :)
Cheers John, trying to stick to once a month at least, it's really the best I can do with this type of project, and format of video! Yeah, even this tiny lathe is a game changer for sure, so many possibilities will come from it, I just have to make my mind remember that it's an option now! 😅 All the best to ya man!
As a Triumph Spitfire owner I can relate. Try torrential rain, and driving behind a bloody big lorry with tires the size and height of your entire car… no visibility. Lovely… 😂
I'm amazed as always! I haven't commented in a while because I ran out of words to describe your work, creativity, knowledge, and pure can do attitude. Those hinged caps!!!!
Careful wearing glove when you’re on a lathe, it’s not recommended. I know it’s just a mini lathe but you don’t want to hurt your hands. Love the show.
Thank you! ... did make a note of that at 3:50 ... and in spite of the cool weather at the time, it's best to avoid use of gloves altogether, for sure. When you know the rules you can break them though? Right?? 😅 Appreciate the concern for my safety! Cheers 😎✌️
I feel certain I would have chickened out and just bought new replacement parts for the wipers. Great work, this will be much better and more reliable. Great to see a new video!
Thanks Matt, I was tempted, but the price told me to try something else! 😉 After all though, as the channel name suggests, I just enjoy building stuff ... and it made for some interesting content! Win-win in my book! 🥳✌️ Cheers dude!
Awesome work🎉🎉🎉 I have never seen someone put this much though and effort into a wiper system. I'm glad to see you didn't just settle for a poor system, but wow😮😮😮😮 this is light years better than solutions I've seen on other vehicles over the years.
Thanks man! It's based entirely off modern systems, so I'm glad we've been able to save money while also getting a better design! Next episode will finish off the motor and linkage system... should be interesting! Cheers to you buddy! 🥳👍
Cant imagine the hours that went into just those wiper arms and caps🤦🏻♂️, ive spent hours and hours to make things i could have bought but i wouldnt have had that sense of pride in something bought as i have in something i made either
There were a few hrs! 😅 Totally worth it though, there was nothing available that was exactly what I wanted ... especially within a budget. As the channel name suggests, I enjoy building stuff! 😎 Cheers man✌️
In all my years of owning either my mk4 Spitfire or my Mk3 GT6, (yes I am a sucker for punishment), I never had a problem with the actuation gear of the wipers. Though on the GT6 I did fit 14" wiper blades and shorten the arm by about 1"" for clearance. And that was only because I fitted after market seats which were an inch or two higher. Absolutely loving the rebuild btw. Brings back some very happy memories I must say.
Our parts were toast, so while I'm sure a rebuilt system would have been fine, we didn't have that option short of spending some decent $$! 😊 I'm all about building things anyways though, so this was not only the cheap solution, but also the fun one!.. and the more modern one! (IMO) Cheers man, really glad you enjoy the series and that it brings back memories, hope you'll like what's to come 👍
What I love about this channel is the straightforward approach you take to making things that look great. No need for CNCs, 3D printing or lasers; often just a hammer and something to shape around. It makes me think that if I could weld, had a lathe, understood engineering and could somehow make room in my garage, I could also do this project. Here's to living vicariously and congrats on the subscriber count that's creeping up!
Cheers Adam! Although I've had a few smaller projects before the GT6, it's still been a huge learning experience - and garage space has always been at a premium! 😅 I'd say, if I can do it, so can you! 😊 Cheers, really appreciate it man! 🙏 Here's hoping it starts to creep up a little faster ... #allhailthealgorithm
I'd have to ask for far more than anyone would be willing to pay I think! Hard to put a price on 10 years and all the memories with Dad! Thanks, really appreciate it! 😊👍
I have commented on this before on your channel, but have to say it once again there are many excellent auto builders on UA-cam, but when it comes down to it, your build is truly a ground up operation. The only thing left of this triumph is the body shell, and it still is a triumph! And what you have done is truly a triumph! Congratulations. Well done.
Absolutely, new parts would have made it usable, but I couldn't justify the cost! We're going to end up with a far more modern system for a fraction of the price this way... just a bit of work is all, but I enjoy that! 😊✌️
i personely enjoy all the small details that usally goes unnoticed by people that dont know the orginale cars well and enjoy talking to people that have made this small changes to their own cars ive done something quit like this on my kadett c to also get rid of the risk of them flying of on the highway tho i had so shorten the arms and fit bigger wiper blades to fill out the entirety of the wind screen. but i realy love what you guys are doing to the gt6
Thanks very much! As the channel name suggests, I just enjoy building stuff! It feels good to have drastically upgraded the system while saving some cash 😊✌️
I am always impressed how you never do things the easy way, and that's why I think your channel is one of the best. You make your problems, you solve your problems.
I don’t want to hear a single person (my self included) say they built a car from the ground up unless this is the level they are talking about. All the rest of us are just doing restoration and mods we mostly ordered premade parts for. Amazing work for such a small operation and garage
@@FanatikBuilds oh I agree! Don’t care what’s powering or how pretty it is if we keep them alive! I build “custom cars” for myself that are pretty extensive builds, that up until this video, were on par with your level of fabrication but this took it to another level!! Great job!
UA-cam doing UA-cam things, no doubt! 😬 You can turn on notifications just for my video uploads if you'd like to man. 😊 Thanks, that means a great deal to me! I've learned everything from Google/UA-cam and just trying stuff, so I'm sure you can too! Cheers 😎✌️
@@FanatikBuilds I've got notifications on.. just subscribed to too much garbage and the good stuff gets buried, lol, esp. in summer when I am not wasting as much time on the ol' computer! Cheers!
I've been able to squeeze quite a lot into our small workspace already, so I don't know! 😅 but if there's a chance I could fit one, you bet I'd be interested! Cheers man 😎✌️
Haha, no actually Bill 😊 went to college for Industrial Millwright, but decided it wasn't the path for me. Most of what we're doing on the car here was learned from Google/UA-cam! All the best to ya, hope you had a great long weekend! 👍🇨🇦
Brilliant stuff. I should have tried something like this when I wanted polished wiper arms for my MX-5 but it's beyond my skillset. You've made them look factory. Really tidy job, well done.
I owned a 74 Spitfire when I was a kid just out of H/S in 1976… last few years thought of quite a few possibilities for retirement car… I’ve restored some Camaros , Impalas … owned few dream cars , 59 elcamino and 69 impala ss427 convertible.. My choice on vehicle /toy - I took the lazy man’s approach .. Found an old guy ‘s extreme low mileage 03 Chevy pick up Short reg cab V8. It already has an LS engine , has factory four-wheel disc brakes. I’m in the south it’s rust free with 30,000 miles .. I paid a crazy price four years ago. But not so crazy when you think of what it is … I’m always smiling when I’m driving it,, it don’t look like much.. I put some factory 17 inch takeoffs from a 2022 Chevy Silverado.. and even added mudflaps for the perfect old man look… of the cars I thought about having as a retirement vehicle I thought about a GT six.. ( the girls really liked the spitfire but didn’t have the guts of the coupe) … also few other small sport cars. I just figure that I wanted to spend the time I have left with grand kids and the wife doing other things . Even just detailing my daughter’s cars with their kids . BUT I HAVE TUNED IN to this build now and then .. always amazed at the quality, ingenuity and humor…
I had a Spitfire 1500 many moons ago. I never had problems with the factory wiper system, even at speeds I shouldn't confess to online. But there is no doubt that your solution is more robust, and the longer wiper blades will certainly be appreciated.
Thanks Jim, I'm sure with new components the Lucas system would have been fine ... but not with the parts we had! Really happy with how this is coming together, and the next episode will help show the big picture! 😊👌
Yup, it takes a stupid amount of time to remake the most benign thing. Kudos to you sir 😊 It's taken me a few weeks to take apart a door latch and remake with less slop and an internal latching mechanism but thems the breaks when going custom 😂
And the best part ... no one else will ever even notice these things! 😂 We will though, right man?! Good on ya, I'm sure the improvement is noticeable! 👌👍 Cheers!
It’s crazy how innovating you and your dad are , keep up the great work . I’ve been subscribed since the beginning of this channel , and amazed at your fabricating skills.
@@FanatikBuilds Oh Please...don't thank me! What you and your father are doing is So wonderful and yeah...unusual for a GTR6R build, which is generally ignored by the classic car community by the way, I can't wait for the next episode. I sit around and wonder when are these guys going to make the next one, I look to see if you have and THEN!!!!!!!!! THEN I scream, LOUDLY AT THE WALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why you ask, well it's simple really YOU HAVN'T MADE THE NEXT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
I've had two of these in the Northeast U.S. I wish I still had them, but they just rotted away in the weather. I am outrageously happy to see someone making something of what is an extraordinarily beautiful car that was so poorly made. You have no idea how many times I thought I might die between the cardboard tunnel cover, the rusted exhaust system, and the snow that scraped along the bottom and forced the fumes to enter the car because the ground clearance was so small. Your modifications are awesome.
All cars should be modified. There only needs to be one slow original piece of junk for the museum and then the rest for people who play with them. Stock sucks at best and will always under every circumstance will be worse than a tastefully done custom. The leave classics original people are the same idiots that have them and don't do anything with them besides let them sit and rot. Waste of a car, and idiot owners are just the worst
@FanatikBuilds just finished watching. You're completely nuts, but brilliantly so. And yes, great start to the weekend. Are you trying to get finished before Binky now? 😉😁
I can live with that! 😅 haha, thanks man! Well, that depends on whether they're still working on it...! They're pretty much done already, but it's been over a year since the last Episode so who knows what's up? I'm trying my hardest to be more regular with the uploads, hope it pays off 😊 Cheers man!✌️
you can get a new pair of 37H7200 spindles für ~60$...but the problem isn´t the size of tthe wiper blade but the curvage of the windscreens which damages the blade while sitting...same with Spitfire, TR6 etc. all haveing the same windscreen/frame..just apply some RainX and live with it...
Not in Canada 😊 ... $60 CAD *each* for me is the best price around. And then we'd still have the old cable... motor... arms. The windshield is very curved on the edges, you're right. That's partly why I wanted to convert to the J-hook connection style... I can get reflex blades now that will better follow the glass shape. 👍
Awesome work! I bet you could have used the wiper bits from Ford Capri (yes they were sold in US and Canada 70-74 and 76-77). It feature angled spindles, cap like the one you made and even J style hooks 😏 I think even the blade and arm is about the size of what you used. Mk1 even had chrome arms lol. Team Blitz in US still sells most parts for those cars. Now you know where to go if you will do a make over lol. So looking forward for each episode you guys make. Brilliant stuff! Greetings again from the friendly norwegian 😊
I knew there had to be *some* cars that would roughly fit the bill! The 1987-91 Jag XJ also had arms like I wanted, but honestly it was going to be a good $100 for used parts, and there was still no guarantee that we *wouldn't* have to modify them! When I just quickly looked up Capri arms right now, I'm not even finding a listing I can get shipped here... even Team Blitz doesn't have any wiper arms, just checked! I'm happy to have worked with what we had in the long run! 😉 Cheers buddy! ✌️
Absolutely love your work, I'm working on an LS1 powered beetle and I'm enjoying watching you work through each hurdle I'm going to get to....just a little note, gloves and lathe don't mix, spinning tools in general actually but especially a lathe, greatly increases your risk of getting your hand/arm sucked in. Massive fan of your channel though. Keep up the good work.
Thanks man, did make mention of that at 3:50 ... if you know the rules you can bend them, right? 😅 Truth is it looks closer on camera, the lathe has extremely little torque at low RPM, and I do go carefully ... but, best to avoid use of gloves altogether, for sure! Thanks for the concern for my safety, and I appreciate the encouragement! 😊✌️
You do know that US cars had dinky little wiper blades too. A 1954 - 1956 Cadillac's wiper blades are a mere 12" in length! How much of the road are you going to see with the width of a Cadillac windshield?
Oh of course, there's only so much I can say in each video, but there was extensive (year+) time to research, plan and ponder this direction. Most of the vintage car wiper arms I came across are quite similar in design, though the US brands didn't have anything quite like the spiral-cable operated system Lucas used ... there was one I did findthat used pulleys though, my goodness! 😅 Visibility is not the GT6's strong point... but the OE 11" blade not even clearing to the top of the glass wasn't going to help any 😊
I presume your already finished with this, but for reference, old American trucks have shortish wiper arms. For example, Square body Chevy’s use 17” blades with slim stainless arms. I imagine older import trucks do to. Toyotas etc.
Did a lot of digging around before we settled on this direction, and considering our entire windshield is less 17" between the gasket, I'd say the truck parts are still going to be too big and will need modifying! Thankfully everything in this episode doesn't need redoing though, as I'm happy with the results 😊
More great work and a very nice solution to your wiper blade system. A couple more comments to my previous ones on using the lathe. 1) Get a cut-off blade set (blade and holder) to cut off the parts from the base material. Much cleaner and safer than the hack saw blade. 2) Recommend using the main carriage feed for all cuts parallel to the bed and not using the cross slide. This is a more accurate cut and ensures a parallel cut (if the cross slide is not perfectly parallel to the bed, you will get taper). 3) Consider getting a 4-jaw chuck if one did not come with your lathe. It allows many more options for what you can do on the lathe. 4) Buy a small storage cabinet with lots of bins to store all the small miscellaneous parts, cutters, etc. for your lathe. I bought one made of plastic from Harbor Freight (I believe Princess Auto is your equivalent) that has 12 pull out storage drawers that does the job. I mounted it on the wall near the lathe and that way all needed items are close at hand. 5) Buy a 6" (or 150mm) electronic digital caliper from Princess Auto (If they are like Harbor Freight, they may even give one away with a large enough purchase) to use around the lathe. This will be accurate enough for 99% of your work, should only cost about $5 US, and if you accidentally destroy it, no hard feelings. I have one from Harbor Freight I have used for many years, and it is still accurate when measured with gage blocks. 6) And lastly, paint your chuck key bright yellow or bright orange. This way you have a visual reminder to remove the chuck key before starting the lathe and flinging the key across the room (ask me how I know this).
Thanks for all the tips, been a while since college so my techniques are a bit rusty! Chuck key has a spring in it, so no worries there though, cheers :)
Harry in Toronto! - Wow, I keep coming back to these wiper episodes. It's the marriage of engineering and craftsmanship. It's beautiful what you guys are doing!
While I am (as usual) very impressed with your engineering and fab skills I cant help but wonder with the TEN YEAR AND COUNTING timeline if this car will ever see the road. You still have wiring and electrical choices to make, interior as well as bodywork and paint. Your tires you have chosen will have aged out before they ever see pavement. ON another note when you are doing time lapse portions of the video have you considered leaving the sound on rather than filling the audio with music? Hammer noises sped up can be quite entertaining.
It will, I know there's still lots to do, but we've made a ton of progress! I enjoy the project anyway, so as much as I look forward to finishing it, I'll be sad to be done! Getting the tires was unfortunate, really should have tried to find some used ones... oh well. Hopefully will have more room after this is done to start the next series 😎... I use what raw audio I can, much of it is far less interesting than you'd think. The music makes it a production which is the idea... impossible to please everyone though as it is a very personal thing. Cheers!✌️
After meeting you, moving to Alberta, and building a house, I've finally sat down and watched most of the episodes. You are The Bracket King! Keep it coming, and hug my son for me please!
Was great meeting you Rob, thanks for taking an interest! I did pass along your hug on Sunday 😊 and Mike mentioned more about your new house, very cool, congrats! Trust we'll meet again someday 🙏
Wow youvé really put your heart into this solution. It probably wont help, but back in the day I used to convert Spitfires, GT6´s and Heralds to Volkswagon Beatle wiper assemblys. Being that they came cheap from the scrapyard, sat on a sort of chassis that could be hacked to fit more or less anything, also the possibility of positioning the (two-speed) motor way off to the right in the footwell, also being able to use any kind of Bosh design wipers and arms I was allways quite proud of myself ;-)
**Clearly** we've been busy... doing something I never imagined we'd do, but, that's Project GT6R for you! Haha, ah, I see! 😉 Thanks man, that means a ton to me, I'm so glad you enjoy the project! We may or may not keep the wood interior, but it's still up for debate, I'm not 100% settled on design just yet! 😊👍 Have a great weekend!
I gotta say, you guys do amazing work. I would have just dropped the $600 for the original set, but now you have something even better!
Great work as always. You've become so skilled at angle grinding that shaving one mm off that aluminium block looked effortless, surgeons hands 🙂
Lovely… 😂
Glad to hear our efforts are not in vain! 😅 Cheers man! 🇨🇦✌️
I'm amazed as always! I haven't commented in a while because I ran out of words to describe your work, creativity, knowledge, and pure can do attitude. Those hinged caps!!!!
#allhailthealgorithm 😊 All good man, really appreciate the encouragement and support, means a lot to me! 🙏✌️
Brilliant work. I just finished my 8 year 1980 Maserati Merak GM engine restomod.
Nice one! Congrats on finishing it, I look forward to that day myself! Though, I'll miss the project at the same time 😊
Well I have never been so jealous of wipers in my life 😂 the ones on both my Spitfire, T2000 and my SD1 are abysmal 😂
Sorry about that! 😅
Masterful work and craftsmanship!!👍👍
Love seeing your “father and son team triumphant in remoding the Triumph 👍🤣😅
Thank you Robert, means a lot! I'm really blessed to be able to do this with Dad. 😊🙏✌️
Y’all wanna make those for my gt6 👀 loving this build and can’t wait to see more process. Keep killin it
Haha, not sure I want to do this again, but thanks man! 😅😎 Will try our best to!✌️
Awesome work🎉🎉🎉 I have never seen someone put this much though and effort into a wiper system.
Your attention to detail is inspiring! Thankfully my project is a bit less complex 😅
Inspiring or insane!... always get those two mixed up! 😂 Cheers Bill, have a great weekend!
Video starts: Seems like a lot of faff for very little...
Video ends: That was TOTALLY worth it!
😅Haha, glad you think so, I tend to agree! Cheers Ralph!
The devil is in the details. The last 10% is often 90% of the job. You two are doing it right though, that will make all the difference at the end.
Thanks man, that's very true! Appreciate it! 😊
Excellent job, amazing what you produce with basic tools. Love it, creativity at its best. 👍
Thanks man, fun pushing the boundaries and learning new things! The lathe has been a great addition to our tool collection!
When you are done with this build will you be selling it and if so how much would you ask? It is absolutely an incredible project!
Well done.
That means a ton to me thank you so much! The shell was our favourite bit, I'm glad we've been able to keep all the alterations within the skin! 😊🙏👍
Got to hand it to you for building your own wiper mechanism. As you say most of the issues are due to the mechanism being 50 years old.
Absolutely, new parts would have made it usable, but I couldn't justify the cost! We're going to end up with a far more modern system for a fraction of the price this way... just a bit of work is all, but I enjoy that! 😊✌️
Class work guys. Been following from the start. Regards from Ireland
That's awesome, thanks for letting me know George, really great to have you sticking around! All the best from Ontario Canada! 🇨🇦
I had no idea installing windshield wipers was so interesting. As usual well done!
Haha, well, we never imagined we'd be doing this at all, but it was quite fun to see them come together! 😊 Thanks man, stay tuned for the rest!
Nice to see you guys back cars coming along great Kind Regards from Liverpool
Thanks Denis, hope it got your weekend off to a good start! Cheers from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦✌️
i personely enjoy all the small details that usally goes unnoticed by people that dont know the orginale cars well and enjoy talking to people that have made this small changes to their own cars ive done something quit like this on my kadett c to also get rid of the risk of them flying of on the highway tho i had so shorten the arms and fit bigger wiper blades to fill out the entirety of the wind screen.
but i realy love what you guys are doing to the gt6
Thanks very much! As the channel name suggests, I just enjoy building stuff! It feels good to have drastically upgraded the system while saving some cash 😊✌️
Ok, now you guys are just making the rest of we mortals look bad. Awesome work. Cheers. 🍻
Lol, not at all! If even I can manage it with an angle grinder, anyone can do it! 😅🙏 Have a great weekend!✌️
I am always impressed how you never do things the easy way, and that's why I think your channel is one of the best. You make your problems, you solve your problems.
If only I'd *stop* making the problems eh! 😅 ... actually, I think Triumph is mainly to blame there! Cheers Paul, really appreciate it man 😎✌️
I don’t want to hear a single person (my self included) say they built a car from the ground up unless this is the level they are talking about. All the rest of us are just doing restoration and mods we mostly ordered premade parts for. Amazing work for such a small operation and garage
Well stated. Humbling is what Michael 22:29 has done versus how much “I thought” I had done.
Really appreciate it, I have a huge respect for builders of all types and genres! The more classics saved from the crusher the better! 😊🙏✌️
@@FanatikBuilds oh I agree! Don’t care what’s powering or how pretty it is if we keep them alive! I build “custom cars” for myself that are pretty extensive builds, that up until this video, were on par with your level of fabrication but this took it to another level!! Great job!
Thanks again man, means a lot! 🔥
This is a legendary build also! Thanks for an awesome start to my Sunday morning.
Means a lot man, thank you, glad it got your Sunday off right! 🥳
How'd I miss an upload!? This is exactly how I hope I would fabricate if I had the resources, time, and knowledge! Well done, as always!
Cheers!
I speak from experience when I say those wipers were about effective as a chocolate teapot. 🤪
@@2ToneWalt Good to know our efforts were not wasted! 😅 Cheers Steve! ✌️
Just remember to use anti-seize on the aluminum part as aluminum (and stainless) are at risk of galling and getting stuck.
During final assembly some anti-seize (and loctite on the nut) will be deployed ... for sure! 😊👍
You tease! Fantastic work with remarkable results. Bravo!
Haha, cheers Matt, next episode should be interesting! 😊✌️
I see a milling machine in your future. Good job without tho, that was great to watch.
I've been able to squeeze quite a lot into our small workspace already, so I don't know! 😅 but if there's a chance I could fit one, you bet I'd be interested! Cheers man 😎✌️
Awesome job on the wiper assembly! I especially like the covers.
Thanks Nigel, quite pleased with how those came out considering my TIG welding abilities! 😅✌️
Endless possibilities, await us.
Nicely done.
Cheers:):):)
It is decidedly endless, or at least it feels so for sure! 😅😉 Thanks man, have a great weekend!
Fantastic. You’re not just a DYI’er are you? Engineer? 🇨🇦
Haha, no actually Bill 😊 went to college for Industrial Millwright, but decided it wasn't the path for me. Most of what we're doing on the car here was learned from Google/UA-cam! All the best to ya, hope you had a great long weekend! 👍🇨🇦
Your fabrication skills with rudimentary tools always amazes me.
Cheers man, you do what you can with what you've got! The lathe has been a game changer, if space allowed I'd love to get a mini-mill! 👍
I got to give you 💯💯💯 amazing fab indeed getting handy with the mini lathe too... ..💯🙂👍🙏
Thank you buddy, this mini lathe has been a game changer for me already! All the best to ya! 😊🙏👍
Brilliant stuff. I should have tried something like this when I wanted polished wiper arms for my MX-5 but it's beyond my skillset.
You've made them look factory.
Really tidy job, well done.
Making them look factory was the goal, so I'm so happy you think that! 😊 Cheers Guy✌️
So satisfying to watch. I really enjoy your work
Thanks man, really glad to hear you enjoy it! 😊✌️
Brilliant. First time any builder I watch has focused on wipers.
Not as exciting as a first start, but necessary for a car we intend to drive! 😊 Cheers man! ✌️
I really enjoy this build and your amazing ability!
Means a lot man, thank you! Really glad you enjoy our antics! 😊✌️
Respects for your work ethic !
Thank you Pedro! 😊🙏
I am still amazed at all the stuff you got crammed into that car 🤣🤣 mint 😎😎🤘🤘
Haha, just wait for next time Karl, more to come! 😉😎✌️ Cheers!
Wonderful solution. Those beauty covers are particularly impressive, thats welding on some very thin metal!!
Thank you Jake, I'm not a great Tig welder but they turned out pretty decent! 🥳
Great as always. Cool metal lathe, your DIY abilities just took a massive jump. Making your own wipers? Officially over the top. KUDOS!
So happy to have a proper lathe finally! Even if it is a mini one 😊 Cheers Dave, really appreciate it!
Absolutely fantastic piece of work
Thanks Lindsay, really appreciate it 👍
Yup, it takes a stupid amount of time to remake the most benign thing.
👌👍 Cheers!
@@FanatikBuilds the jpys of OCD ;)
Amazingly clever, as always! Well done, and great looking also! As usual, you've left me eagerly looking forward to the next video.
Cheers man, really appreciate that! 😊✌️
Not only are your engineering skills fantastic, your craftsmanship and execution is awesome as well. 👍👍
That means a great deal to me, thank you so much! 😊✌️
It’s crazy how innovating you and your dad are , keep up the great work . I’ve been subscribed since the beginning of this channel , and amazed at your fabricating skills.
Awesome to have you following along still Mark, thanks for the support and kind words! 🥳
The simplest thing as a wiper assembly. I knew you guys could improve it. Turned out great!
Really appreciate it man! Just couldn't bring myself to put the old stuff back on! 😅✌️
I object, for the most part to the modification of most classic cars, however what you and your father are doing to this GTR6R is ABSOLUTLY AWESOME!!!
That means a lot then Dave, thank you! 😊
I love this build series.
Not only because of the amazing fabrication.
But the fact it’s a great Father Son build
Cheers Randy, means a lot to me 😊🙏 Really blessed to be able to do this with my dad!
You guys are amazing, keep up the good work!
Really appreciate it David, will try to! 😊✌️
Im somewhat of a fanatik. I click like before I watch
Awesome, thanks Stanley! Appreciate the support! 😊👍
Harry here in Toronto. Wow, another great episode! You both are amazing and your vision and craftsmanship delight.
Means a lot to me Harry, thanks! 🇨🇦 Have a great long weekend! 🥳
How in the world do you not even have a hundred thousands Subscribers, because your stuff is cool.
Gotta say, that would be real nice! 😅 ... Please tell a friend or two about us, imagine if everyone did, we'd get there so quickly!
Even though laminated cardboard wiper spindle covers might be the future, we're not there yet.
Not yet, but close! 😉
Amazing work it’s looking great ❤
Thank you Jonas, really appreciate it! 😊🙏
Some serious fabrication in this build from beginning to I assume the end. Excellent.
Thank you Gary, appreciate it!

@@marcusott2973 Thanks Marcus! Hope it’s got your weekend off to a good start!
I'm trying my hardest to be more regular with the uploads, hope it pays off 😊 Cheers man!✌️
Goodness, that’s not at all what I expected, thank you for letting me know, I appreciate it. 🙏
TOTALLY ACE work guys ❤
Cheers Steve, means a lot! 😊✌️
you can get a new pair of 37H7200 spindles für ~60$...but the problem isn´t the size of tthe wiper blade but the curvage of the windscreens which damages the blade while sitting...same with Spitfire, TR6 etc. all haveing the same windscreen/frame..just apply some RainX and live with it...
All hail Angle Grinder Yoda. Amazing fabrication skills on display yet again.
Ha, all I can think of now is the "Turbo Yoda" song from #MCM ! 😊 Cheers man, that means a ton to me!
You and your dad are amazing, great job!!!!!
😊Cheers man! Means a lot!
@@FanatikBuilds in my humble opinion you’re right up there with Project Binky!!!
Really appreciate it Harry, thank you for the continued support and encouragement! Means a lot to me 😊🙏🔥✌️
While I am (as usual) very impressed with your engineering and fab skills I cant help but wonder with the TEN YEAR AND COUNTING timeline if this car will ever see the road.
Nice one! The good old Beetle was the source of all kinds of parts/swaps/mods! 😊 I've always wanted one actually! Cheers 👍
