Was only out there for about an hour every time as it's been so hot here in BC. I'm going for bull trout next week. Greetings from the Canadian Rockies.

    I do have one sorta dispute but it's nothing against you or the magnets, it has to do with the topic of scent that you brought up. While scent is important the problem I see all the time and has been proven with science is oil based scents don't actually work as advertised. The reason is simple oil and water don't mix and fish smell scents dispersed in water, so imagine trying to smell with your nose stuffed with Vaseline.. it wouldn't work right an though it's not exactly the same the principal is similar, if your gonna use scents you need a scent product that is water based or dissolves and disperses in water for the fish to be able to smell it. Oil is used in a lot of scent products as a sorta binder to help make the scent stick to the bait and us being humans see are baits slathered in oil and think yup that's gonna be great unfortunately we've been suckered in.. so when your selecting a scent look for a natural scent base or a water based. If your interested there's a video out there on you tube where they did a study on bass trying to figure out how the fish uses it's senses to return to it's home after being released at a weigh station long distances away from where it was caught, in the video they go over scent and the experiments they did

    • @diegosharma8248

      Yeah i always was spectical about see oil based scents i was thinking of how minimal the scent leaking from them would be, but maybe don’t think it works well for long lasting weak scent? Because i notice with my water soluble scents they don’t last long imo

      Calm waters on the pond, line is flat on the surface slowly moving with the water and then the line starts to straighten out, 30 feet away a giant trout jumps in the air with your powerbait in his mouth. Thats a great feeling. And then of course the fight.

    Take a collar chunk of another grub, pinch a little chunk off, and thread it on the hook to splay the tails apart. Instant improvement and slows the sink rate a good bit as well.

    So I stumbled upon magnets looking for something simple and fun to get my son into lure fishing, then late winter early spring I was eager to do some fishing and couldn't get bites I knew the local pond had trout so I threw on one of the magnet hookjigs and a trout worm from power bait and boom I couldn't stop catching trout this lead me to rethink my trout fishing style and try the other magnet trout products and now I won't use much else aside from magnets and rooster tails. They truely work great.. magnet makes a ultra light rod and reel combo that dicks sells for like 20 bucks which for a cheap rod is at least better then walmart but the reel feels like trash so I didn't give it a shot. One thing though when I fish them I don't see the point in the float I just keep the line just a tad slacked and jig till I feel the fish

    Thanks for the tips! I’ve never seen these used on open water before and never thought to use them on open water. We use them for ice fishing and catch a lot of fish all different species. I found this channel yesterday and have been binging the videos it’s nice to see a channel that does trout fishing and not just fly fishing trout. I live in northern Utah and it’s mostly trout out here and usually UA-cam channels focus on bass or other species.

  • @billpalmisano

    I noticed with the trout magnet I'm using for the first time this year that the trout are barely hooked, easy to release safely. I have caught 50 trout in a day on it. I used powerbait exclusively prior to this and every fish was gut hooked. Best colors for me are white and the yellow.

    3 questions. How do I determine the depth on shore when casting out? If the depth is 15ft then how do I properly adjust bobber to lure here? Should I really use 2lb line?

    • @jessicacordova5024
      @jessicacordova5024 4 роки тому +2

      The way I determine depth if it’s not a really deep lake I use a bobber or float and keep adding line to go deeper and once you touch the bottom your float will go sideways and lay parallel to the water instead of straight up. There’s no real generic answer for how to adjust for depth. I always start shallow and go deeper until I find what depth the fish are at. There’s a lot of variables that go into how deep the fish are like water quality, oxygen levels, time of year, time of day and a lot of other things. If you’re going after smaller pan fish like crappies, bluegill etc or just small stocked trout in my opinion 2lb is fine but if you’re going after trout at a lake that you know has descent fish I’d go with a 10lb braid as main line and a 4-6lb leader. You should always use the lightest line you know you can get away with but 2lb is in my opinion pushing it in most situations. I’d rather use something slightly thicker and have a little piece of mind knowing that if I hook into a good fish my chances of getting it in are a bit higher.

    I suck at fishing but these work. Caught decent sized large mouth, perch, blue gill, rock bass, crappie, and even a pike.

    These also work great for panfish! Trout magnet with an ultra light up to a medium light rod reel combo is one of my favorite ways to catch any type of fish since one of my buddies from college put a few of them in my hand on a day we tore up some bluegill in the school's pond

    What I do is I make a slip float rig. It's a bit more work, but works well in deeper lakes as well as slows down the fall of the jig to even slower.
