100% agreement. I made myself a believer by just putting a set of Legends on my 2015 Limited a few years before I traded it off. That is the one "part" that I REALLY wish I would have taken off and put on the replacement 2009 Ultra with factory suspension. Everything else on the Limited was mostly factory, save the slip ons, and that money was the best investment I made on a 2 up touring bike.
After twenty years, I replaced the air/back shocks with Progressive 440HD, and the front got the Progressive cartridge replacement elements. Way better than the worn out OEMs. Yes. Suspension parts are expensive.
I am happy with my 1988 Electra Glide Classic air suspension front and back. I did need to get the forks rebuild but they were 30+ years old. No service has been done on the back that I know of. I check the air pressure every couple of months and notice no air leakage. My ride is smooth and stable.
That's really impressive that the air suspension is still holding on a 88 model, well they used to build them better in that time period too. I would pull them forks down and just go through them with new seals and bushings. That front end will be night and day after a good service!
I spent a lot of money on Progressive Suspension top of the line shocks and spring combinations with assistance from Progressive. No matter what I tried I could get a good ride, this was with my 2013 CVO Road King. What I wound up with was a Chrome 12" air shock Brand X that cost $112.00 with shipping. With 5 psig setting not only is it a comfortable ride but the bike sits nice and low. When I bought and build my 2015 St Glide with the 120St motor I automatically installed those shocks. I found it to be an even better ride due to the 16" rear tire higher profile than the 18" CVO tire. I've always said the price is not always the answer to a problem. It's been 8 years for the CVO and 7 years with the St Glide with no problems and no leaking oil or air on both.
I have the Wilbers kit (front & rear) on my Road King - utterly transformed the ride - so I completely agree with you! Mine are the auto-adjusting (Nivomat) for load on the rear - Wilbers do dial it in for you via a questionnaire too. Highly recommended!
I can attest to this! I bought a 2007 Sportster Custom, getting it for a great price. First ride I hated it, with the suspension being the culprit. I went with Progressive front and rear. Completely different bike. I honestly never ridden a Harley so smooth. No more bottoming out the rear going over tracks or having a pogo stick up front when braking/acceleration. Still have the OEM upfront on the Street Glide Special, but went with Legend in the rear. Once again, game changer.
Right on! Those Legends in the rear with the stock front when adjusted and dialed in will make your front suspension operate much more predictably and properly.
Yes, yes, yes ! Out of all things you can do to your bike; Suspension really is the beginning of it all! GixxerFoo is so right about that ! I've got Hyperpro Suspension up front and that's such a improvement, compared to the original suspension, really unbelievable! My rear shocks are made by Progressive Shocks and they also are a huge improvement. I do want to change these in the end for Hyperpro shocks though. By all means whatever you do; first of all change your suspension!
Well said! Suspension will truly transform a bike and really allow you to use it to it's full potential. You can have all the power in the world but if you can't get it to the ground it's not worth much.

I've installed several sets of lower shocks on others FLT bikes so that I have a few sets of almost new HD factory take-off shocks. They work fine for me. I did remove the plastic air lines and installed individual Schraeder valves on each shock. Progressive Suspension cartridge fork inserts replaced the original innards.
I put the Nitron R1 mono shock on my softail. It has adjustable preload of course and also adjustable rebound/compression and the length of the eyelet is also adjustable. This means you can set the ride height exactly where you want it. If you run out of adjustment either way, you can also buy longer or shorter eyelets. After installing it I instantly felt the difference, it’s fantastic
I just did a front and rear suspension upgrade this winter....I went with Progressive 444HD's on the rear and Progressive Mono-tube for the front!...should have been the first thing I did 2 yrs ago when I bought it!...Amazing difference in ride quality...and confidence!!...great video...stay safe...ride safe!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
My 2013 FXDC Superglide got Progressive fork cartridge inserts and longer Progressive shocks last year. Braking and handling have improved dramatically. Why did I wait so long to make the changes? My 2020 FLTRK Road Glide Limited has so far remained stock. Changed the bars out first!
Dude, it's always a good thing when one of my favorite UA-cam channels mentions one of my other favorite channels. I'd never looked at their suspension stuff though so I'm off to check that out.
I put shotgun shocks on my old softail and it was an amazing system. I put Progressive suspension up front and that was better than stock and a good value.
My 2000 883 I bought last year came with upgraded coil overs, but they seem too stiff. I just got a set of spanner wrenches so time to experiment. I also picked up Progressive Suspension's front spring kit with a James fork seal kit and new oil. So that is a project for another day. Thanks for the great video, book marking DK Customs now for future use!
Sportster suspension is pretty stiff on the older bikes, but if the fork oil and seals are wore it's putting more on the rear. Getting your forks rebuilt with good oil and those springs will take the stress of the rear suspension. You should notice a big difference!
@@GixxerFoo i loved them on my 08 Nightster too, they just make a good product, after trying both the springs and monotube versions in the forks, i like the monotubes much better but both are a night n day difference from stock
Suspension is my next upgrade. Just put an UltraCool system on and love it. Heat KILLS. Set up to me is more important than power. If it’s not correct your bike, car, truck or whatever isn’t going to be controllable. Good vid.
Adding front springs and better rear shocks transform virtually all motorcycles into a better handling and riding experience. Thanks for a great explanation.
This is one of the first things I did when I got my 13 RG 4 years ago. Just take your lady over a few train tracks and she will thank you after you get new shocks. I got progressive for the rear and change oil in forks.
I hit a pothole coming back from Daytona and had to replace. The 19” was not available, so I decided to get to get a 21” wheel. I hated the way the bike handled, especially at low speed or parked I’m going with a 1” drop. Hoping this fixes the problem and I get better handling.
Aw man that sucks when parts are discontinued. The 21" wheel slows the handling down quite a bit, dropping that front end a little will help get some of that back.
Yes , my suspension is horrible. I'm a big man , 285 #s without wearing my heavy riding gear . Riding my RGLIDE Ultra 2016 with air shocks is difficult at times .No matter how I adjust the suspension I'm either hitting hard or bottoming out . Being a business owner I'm always looking for a bigger bang for my buck . Great quality for business but not to smart when it comes to comfort . Good information, thank you for sharing. Pete
I got a buddy that's about your same weight, he rides a 2020 Electra Glide Ultra with the Emulsion suspension and it handles really well with him on it. He's looking to upgrade later though too, he had a 2018 Street Glide with emulsion suspension with him and his wife on there with the rear set for the weight it did great for both of them.
@@GixxerFoo I'll look into that brand . Did he also do the front suspension ? . Or just the rear. Thank you for responding and the info you shared. Pete
I run Air ride front (cedillo customs) and rear (shotgun). The fact that i can control dampening made my decision easier or the vicla style bike i have. Expensive but worth it 👌. Thx for another great vid🧡
I’ve been looking at putting something different on mine cause I have a old 98 with air suspension… I know you can just replace the rears but what do I do for the front??
There's all kinds of suspension kits for the front end, different springs and cartridge kits. You have to pull the front end down down so it's not as easy as just swapping shocks over.
Great video. Engine then suspension. But really A and 1A. To get the engine running at peak performance and upgrade the suspension, that makes Harley's come alive. I went with Terry Cable shocks. Night and day between those and the stock air shock. On the front forks, all I had to do was change the damper. Springs were fine. Took out the mushy ride and that fork dive on braking. None of that. Now it tracks like a Ferrari in the twisties. Yet super comfortable running down the road. Cost was pretty amazing. Shocks ran around 650 and the front fork damper is right around 100 bucks or so. Or was. Just another cost of having a Harley. Yea, it's worth it.
@@GixxerFoo The really cool thing about the rear shocks is they add 1" of travel. So instead of the stock 2", I now have 3" of travel, and it does not change the height of the bike. How do he do it?! 2nd bike now with TC shocks. They adjust the shocks to your weight for ya. Thought I was going to have to do a complete front end change out, but they convinced me all I needed was a dampener change. They figured out the port sizes to make the adjustment. All I can tell ya it works great. Thanks for a great channel. Always look forward to your video's.
The new Softails really ride very well, even with the stock suspension. There's a real gap on the Sportsters and Touring compared to that softail mono shock chassis.
I ride a 2005 xl1200c, stock suspension is hard as a rock. Today changed front with Progressive springs and rear with 12" drag Specialties height adjustable. Rain has kept me from that test ride which is in order.
Anything before 2016 on the Sportsters pretty much had springs that were called shocks. It's going to be like a brand new bike when you get that first ride in!
Yes I agree. I am having my stock softail set for more weight I weigh about 240lbs and the factory setting needs adjustment my scoot is a 2002 so ill put it on a lift. I don't ride like a racer I ride very granddaddy. I like good take off up to about 50mph. And that's where I stay. On the hwy about 62-65 mph max.
Even just cruising like that having a good setup is still crucial, it's a game changer to run through a dip in the road and not bottom out or get bounced off the seat.
Hello, I realize this is off topic, but I was wondering what is your opinion on Amsoil transmission fluid? First time servicing my2013 Road King classic at home. Is trans fluid ok as opposed to regular oil, or gear oil? Also wondering which is the best way to check the trans fluid level? Manual says on level ground on jiffy stand, threads not screwed in. Apparently many people check it in different ways, so was wondering how you do it? Any help is appreciated. Thanks
I always check mine by what the manual recommends when it comes to the primary and transmission. Now for the oil I don't fill it all the way to the top, just 3/4 below full when the bike is fully hot. When it comes to dedicated fluids in the transmission and primary it's really down to personal preference. I run Amsoil 20w50 for engine, transmission and primary, it works great and I don't have to buy separate products. Some will argue about that, but the Vrod and every other motorcycle out there shares oil with the engine, transmission and primary and they have for years and years. It comes down to how your clutch and transmission feel to you, it might feel better with dedicated products or 20w50 full synthetic. Either way it won't hurt anything it's just personal preference.
i have been trying to decide on upgrading my new road glide shocks. i think you convinced me. I am leaning towards the legend with the cannister. 13 inch. cool.
Suspension is right up top on my list.. coming from the sport bike race tracks, I know the value of good suspension.. not a fan of the setups with compression on one fork and rebound on the other.. can’t get my head around that concept.. another good vid, Foo
It takes forever toying with rebound and compression to get that setup right. You can have all the power in the world but if you can't put it to the ground it's worthless. You can go faster on a slower bike with good suspension, being at the track I'm sure you've seen that before!
@@GixxerFoo seen it? Yea, I seen it.. I got my ARSE HANDED to me by a 14y/o on a 250cc before I got my suspension.. even with full suspension, he was fast as FAWK.. his mom & dad went all in for their kid’s passion.. I didn’t hate though.. lotta worse things a 14y/o coulda been doing on weekends
What pipe will produce more power, v&h short shots or big shots with the hidden x pipe I'm running 3" slip on s&s with no baffles & I'm ready to go full system I just don't want to lose my sound & I'm worried going to the smaller diameter of the v&h
Honestly short shot look great, they are loud, but they will kill your power. They are not the best performance exhaust out there, the big shot with the X pipe is the way to go. You might see how you like the standard baffle they come with and the baffle is removable on those. You'll just want to retune if you remove the baffle, they also have a competition baffle which won't really knock the sound down but it will give you back some low end torque.
Lights were first on the list, all LED's are now installed. Suspension is next, I was lucky to ride a couple touring bikes with Fox and Legend suspensions. Absolutely night and day compared to stock.
What about the intiminator valves DK have for Harleys they say that setting up with a better spring than the Harley stock spring outperforms the aftermarket cartridges because you aren’t sacrificing different settings in each fork compared to trying to find the middle ground with rebound and compression. Dk has a video on this .
i did the front on my 2021 street glide did the valves and pro action springs lot better then stock or legend.and super shoks on the back.that is not miss spelled. look them up
DK has thoroughly tested the setups, I haven't tried it personally but it makes sense to me. A lot of control settings are great but it can really complicate the setup and you can end up with a mess if you get your settings wrong.
I run gold revo a on my bagger and luv them compared to the showa crap and Iam telling you there is a night and day difference between them.i no they cost alot but with todays roads which are the worst i have ever seen it will be money well spent.great video gixxer 1 more thing dont skimp on a lesser shock 400.00 your not gonna get much and you will be pissed.get a top quality unit like legend or Ohlin's and you will be happy
The less expensive shocks are good for an older bike with wore out suspension or if you have Sportster with the springs they call shocks. It really does pay off in the long run to get the good stuff and you for sure won't regret it!
Anyone know what weight the newer softail suspension is set up for? I understand it’s been designed to cover a verity of rider weights but I’m looking for an overall idea. Thank you in advance
The rear preload settings are figured for 160lb to 300 lb rider, with additonal weight of passenger and gear to 180lbs. The 0 prelaod is for 160 and below. That's just a good starting point, you'll likely add more or less from the recommended setting to find what you like.
@@GixxerFoo It's great because I'm short. I did the bars at the same time and I've got a handle bar switch that I can drop the bike down and make it easier to walk around.
@@roncoburn7771 instead of this one, brother? I was going Ohlins or Screaming Eagle (same thing) but Ohlins because of the Gold Cans that would match my bike better.
my UC is a 05. Just had a complete engine rebuild to a 103. took a 500 mile road trip with my wife after breaking in the motor. the bikes suspension road like crap. I had 12" legends installed front and rear. 2,200. it's like riding in a caddie. there's no dip on the front when aggressive front brakes. I didn't have to mess with the rebound with my wife and gear either like. now all I want too do is ride. I would do a good suspension before any up grade period.
Legends is awesome, they are really backed up right now with all the orders they handling. That just shows how good that Legends suspension is being able to just leave it where it's at no matter what and just ride.
I'd think it's a higher % than that. I've been riding for 30 + years and ha e never known a person to maintain the front suspension. With the exception of the few guys that took their bikes to the dealer for years and years after the warranty was up.
@@whatyoumakeofit6635 yeah I initially had it at 95% but didn't wanna start getting bombarded with people who would disagree with me on that. I changed a guy's fork oil last year and the smell of it almost made me feel like vomiting! Bike had 70k miles and he purchased it new and NEVER had that service done to it. Pitiful if you asked me.
👍 I wondered if anyone would pick up on that shirt! I love Harley's retro tank designs, I love it when they bring those graphics back on the new bikes.
Those look really trick, I haven't seen those before! I'll have to look into those more and ask around to see if anyone knows anyone running them. I have never seen them on anyone's bike before, I really like the concept though.
Harley-Davidson used to use the fvq paid very quickly shocks at Honda used because they were cheap and they hold the seat and the tire away from each other and then you go by a new set of shocks when you bought a try if you had a good set of Girling shock absorbers and good tires and a good chain and a good battery not just cheap stuff in order to make the price low and make the customer pay for it later on to change the inadequate part.
check out AR 25 for front end suspension upgrade Best 399 you will ever spend. i agree with the satisfaction factor on spending for suspendion. RDWs on my Roadking rear.....the KIND

I had Ohlins front and rear on my 2016 Ultra Limited. This time around on my 2021 Road Glide Limited I went with Legends because the dealer had it in stock. Big mistake. While the Legends is better than the stock, they can’t compare to Ohlins.
Legends is a great company and very very popular but Ohlins has been around forever and a day. Ohlins has years of R&D in every kind of racing imaginable which they apply to the streets.
Harley-Davidson encourages neglectful changing of fork oil because the forks on a Harley do not have drain plugs making you disassemble the fork s which is time consuming and expansion. Changing the fork oil on my 650 Triumph my 1965 TR6 takes all of 15 minutes you take the bike outside you take the plug out you pump the front end you plug it up you put the recommended amount of oil in it you screw the plug back in and you do the same for the other side and you are done.
As the fluid heats up it allows for more expansion of the fluid and better cooling which translates to less suspension fade and better performance. But for a cruiser, they look cool and I guess it's there if you ever find yourself in a MotoGP race on a back road lol.
I put a legends mono shock on my ‘21 FXLRS. Sag set a 1”. Been messing with the rebound for a couple of weeks. It is hard to tell if its better. In some conditions maybe and others no. No way this is $1,000 improvement.
🛑🛑 Dude…Classic Shirt 😀👍!!! I had a 1975 125cc SX that had your shirt design on the tank. 💯 I gotta find one of those shirts😀👍. Thanks for taking me back to simpler, and enjoyable time 💯👍.
It for sure can be a huge part of it, the older touring bikes that get a good wobble in them have that older air suspension which tends to leak and end up with uneven pressure.
What a lot of people don’t realize is that shocks and suspension that is un-equal to the overall load including gear and passengers, it can be seriously detrimental to one’s health. My wife and I were riding on our 2015 Yamaha Road Star, not realizing that the stock suspension was built for a small Chinese man. That bike was so under sprung that every time we leaned over at all we were hitting frame with pavement. Unfortunately my ignorance of that situation peaked when my wife and I were on a scenic piece of pavement out in the middle of nowhere and hit a bump causing the frame to come in direct contact with the road causing the shock to go up through my back and fracture my tail bone. Needless to say, my wife held my head as I stood there on the side of the road and cried. I swore up-and-down that I would never own another motorcycle with a softail suspension or mono shock again. Thinking that Harley upped their game and improved the suspension on the new 2017 models I was excited to purchase my new Road King…. Needless to say, the new suspension front and rear were seriously lacking and now My Road King now sports a full legend front and rear suspension upgrades the very best thing I could ever purchase for my bike.
That's scary! Glad you kept it up though! It really takes some time to dial in a suspension right or your every day. Best thing you can do is when you get it setup the way you like is record those setting to make sure you get it back exactly the way you had it. But with the legends you have on there it will handle a lot and very well too. My experience with Legends is you don't have to be as perfect with it as you would with just getting a good preload setting with the stock suspension.
At the price we pay for a new Harley they should come with top quality for all parts, I have spent 41k yet and still did not change the suspension, this is my last new Harley Davidson, they sell bike's that needs to be upgraded for reliability, even the motor.
DK customs sells ProAction products as a resell and are priced $75 higher for the rear shocks than buying direct from ProAction. DJ and his team at ProAction are a great bunch of people and will take your phone calls to answer questions.
I hit post before I was done. I played with the preload on my ProAction rears and messed them up. When I called DJ at ProAction he waited for me to raise the rear wheel and walked me through measuring the springs and told me how to set them. I don’t think customer service gets much better than that. Awesome ride for my 15 CVO Rushmore as well.
Harley uses weak fork springs with less progressive winding to give a plush ride. The factory fork oil is garbage!! Rear shocks suffer from the same thin oil for dampening and bad internal valving to control compression and rebound. Factory air shocks are not very good either. Bigger maintence issue is servicing the fork oil and rebuilding the forks and rear shocks. Fork and shock oil becomes contaminated and breaks down. The 41mm touring forks with Progressive springs are a great improvement with upping the fork oil weight to 15w. New fork bushings are required. Rear shocks and air shocks need the oil changed more frequently they have less fluid and become contaminated quicker. Just saying!!
Since you said it I'll just say all Harley fluid is junk in my opinion. I've found quite a bit of difference in just changing fork oil out to a high performance and quality aftermarket fork oil. What you choose to use is personal but I really like Amsoil Shock Therapy, that was a inexpensive solution for better performance.
The suspension has a much bigger affect on braking and acceleration than most realize. Most of the focus is on ride and handling but it is so much more than that.
you have heard of it now.i regret giving DK customs 1100. for the pro-action package to put on my 2015 freewheeler.i cannot tell any difference.it rides and handles the same as stock.DK asked for a review,in the review i did not run down the pro-action shocks all i said was i wish i had saved my money.they would not post ny review.that is when i made up my mind not to ever buy anything else from DK.
@@GixxerFoo i am surprised too,the pro-action shocks are some real nice shocks.what i did not like was after DK asked for a review they would not even post it

I did remove the plastic air lines and installed individual Schraeder valves on each shock. Progressive Suspension cartridge fork inserts replaced the original innards.
Factory take offs are great for older bikes with wore out suspension, those take offs can make an older bike like new!
That's awesome! You can't beat the adjustability that shock has, it's almost unlimited to get that shock adjusted exactly how you want it.
I just put Legends suspension on my 21 RK.
OMG.....what a night and day difference. Expensive yes.....worth it? DAMN STRAIGHT!
Having a bike you can ride all day for miles on end without getting beat to death is what it's all about!
I just did a front and rear suspension upgrade this winter....I went with Progressive 444HD's on the rear and Progressive Mono-tube for the front!...should have been the first thing I did 2 yrs ago when I bought it!...Amazing difference in ride quality...and confidence!!...great video...stay safe...ride safe!😎👍🤙👍🤙🇨🇦
dam wish i would have known i got brand new one's
Very nice! I road a Sportster with a nice Progressive setup once and you would forget what you're on!
A suspension upgrade will absolutely transform a bike!
Dude, it's always a good thing when one of my favorite UA-cam channels mentions one of my other favorite channels. I'd never looked at their suspension stuff though so I'm off to check that out.
That's awesome! They have a really good deal suspension, it's all tested and matched which is what I really like too!
Another score by the Gixx! I do need to look at a better suspension for my Deluxe Softail 103. What do you suggest?
I agree, i usually use progressive shocks in the rear and use the monotube shocks in the forks, its a night n day difference on a softail
Progressive makes killer suspension, Softails ride really well stock but you get Progressive suspension in there and it's a game changer.
@@GixxerFoo i loved them on my 08 Nightster too, they just make a good product, after trying both the springs and monotube versions in the forks, i like the monotubes much better but both are a night n day difference from stock
What kind of progressives did you get?
@@EnteKross123 which bike?
Great info but only a select few of the m8 softails have adjustable dampening and cartridges in the front forks.
Yeah pretty much all Harleys don't have adjustment setting on the front end.
Suspension is my next upgrade. Just put an UltraCool system on and love it. Heat KILLS. Set up to me is more important than power. If it’s not correct your bike, car, truck or whatever isn’t going to be controllable. Good vid.
Thank you! Honestly having a bike that handles and rides smooth with a quality suspension is more fun than a hot rod engine.
Adding front springs and better rear shocks transform virtually all motorcycles into a better handling and riding experience. Thanks for a great explanation.
It's amazing the difference suspension makes, it's cheaper than a new bike and it can makes you fall in love with a bike all over again.
Well explained and very good food for thought. DK Customs is very good at everything they do.
DK knows what they are doing and they have done some extensive testing on the packages they put together!
This is one of the first things I did when I got my 13 RG 4 years ago. Just take your lady over a few train tracks and she will thank you after you get new shocks. I got progressive for the rear and change oil in forks.
No joke, rail road tracks with the stock suspension will make you a believer in aftermarket suspension real quick!
Great info as usual,I did the legends axios on front forks and went with supershox on the rear on my 2014 limited, bike rides like a dream now!!
Very nice! That's gotta be like floating down the road on a cloud now!
@@GixxerFoo absolutely, just incredible difference from stock setup
I hit a pothole coming back from Daytona and had to replace. The 19” was not available, so I decided to get to get a 21” wheel. I hated the way the bike handled, especially at low speed or parked I’m going with a 1” drop. Hoping this fixes the problem and I get better handling.
Aw man that sucks when parts are discontinued. The 21" wheel slows the handling down quite a bit, dropping that front end a little will help get some of that back.
Wilbur’s on my 2018 UL, outstanding upgrade
Pete
dude air shocks are terrible put some revo a's on then hit me up

I run Air ride front (cedillo customs) and rear (shotgun). The fact that i can control dampening made my decision easier or the vicla style bike i have. Expensive but worth it 👌. Thx for another great vid🧡
That's some good high quality air suspension you have on your bike! Leaps and bounds about the factory stuff!
Fantastic presentation, superb graphics, great photos!!!
From southern California ~ Ride Forever! 🏍
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Damn that's not bad at all on the suspension upgrade! There's a lot to be said about just some simple component swaps in the forks!
I bought the SE Ohlins wow still don’t have a cam but what a difference suspension made.
Nothing wrong the SE shocks, those are supposed to be the same shocks they use on the King of Bagger race bikes just tuned for the street.
DK are awesome guys with excellent products. Always very helpful as well.
Yes they are! They are great company and not some big box job.
I should have did these upgrades when I had my Super Glide.... . The 2019 Heritage seems to ride ok for now.
The new Softails really ride very well, even with the stock suspension. There's a real gap on the Sportsters and Touring compared to that softail mono shock chassis.
I own a 2018 heritage classic
I ride a 2005 xl1200c, stock suspension is hard as a rock. Today changed front with Progressive springs and rear with 12" drag Specialties height adjustable. Rain has kept me from that test ride which is in order.
Anything before 2016 on the Sportsters pretty much had springs that were called shocks. It's going to be like a brand new bike when you get that first ride in!
@@GixxerFoo Finally got to ride for about 100 miles. Yes, the ride difference is huge, it's more forgiving. Looking at seats now,😄
Yes I agree.
@@GixxerFoo I will look into after market shocks for my Heritage. It seems that most don't care for the stock setup on softails.
Hello,
I realize this is off topic, but I was wondering what is your opinion on Amsoil transmission fluid?
@@GixxerFoo Thanks a bunch!
i have been trying to decide on upgrading my new road glide shocks. i think you convinced me.

What pipe will produce more power, v&h short shots or big shots with the hidden x pipe
I'm running 3" slip on s&s with no baffles & I'm ready to go full system I just don't want to lose my sound & I'm worried going to the smaller diameter of the v&h
Honestly short shot look great, they are loud, but they will kill your power. They are not the best performance exhaust out there, the big shot with the X pipe is the way to go. You might see how you like the standard baffle they come with and the baffle is removable on those. You'll just want to retune if you remove the baffle, they also have a competition baffle which won't really knock the sound down but it will give you back some low end torque.
neither but if i had to pick one big shot
It's about time somebody focused on the marginal suspension we suffer with. I'd like some Ohlins or Wilburs for my 2020 Road King. Great video, again!
Ohlins is some top shelf suspension, that stuff will make a bike feel like a cloud.
What are the best suspension for a 75 FLH SHOVELHEAD
Progressive has some really good fork kits and rear shocks that will fit a FLH.
@@GixxerFoo thk you .
Lights were first on the list, all LED's are now installed. Suspension is next, I was lucky to ride a couple touring bikes with Fox and Legend suspensions. Absolutely night and day compared to stock.
Right on! Once you experience some high quality suspension there is no going back!
do Fox and Legend have the ability to provide a custom setup? I know Super Shox and DK do. And they get it right!
Replace the stock suspension on my 21 road glide. For sure the best upgrade. It’s like a different bike. The “premium” suspension was junk
The new suspension is premium compared to the old factory suspension but it's far from top shelf.
Suspension is usually the third thing I change on all my bikes. #1 is exhaust and intake, #2 is the seat and #3 is the shocks.
That's way closer to the top of the list than a lot people!
Learned some time ago how crappy the HD suspension is.

The less expensive shocks are good for an older bike with wore out suspension or if you have Sportster with the springs they call shocks. It really does pay off in the long run to get the good stuff and you for sure won't regret it!
Perfect timing I've got a 02 wideglide WG3 CVO lowerd from the factory how do I measure the shock length thinking of adding 1inch ?
You'll want to measure from the center of the top shock eye to center of the bottom shock eye. That will give the measurement you are looking for.
Measure from the middle of the eyelet to middle of the eyelet...12in was the stock height shocks for the Wide Glide

The rear preload settings are figured for 160lb to 300 lb rider, with additonal weight of passenger and gear to 180lbs. The 0 prelaod is for 160 and below. That's just a good starting point, you'll likely add more or less from the recommended setting to find what you like.

Fork oil breaks down just like anything else, going back with a higher quality oil really makes a difference too!

I've thought about getting Fox Suspension.
It's expensive but the first time you ride with it you'll find it was worth the money and why it cost so much!
Have a 2012 Ultra Classic and it rides like a empty tri-axle dump truck. Worst suspension I have ever experienced. Upgrade definitely on the list.
Go fast. Turn fast. Stop fast. In the reverse order of how important those actually are.
That is so very true!
Harley using Showa isn't bad but it's not high end Showa or anywhere close.
What makes a remote reservoir better than a piggyback one? The increase in price?
As the fluid heats up it allows for more expansion of the fluid and better cooling which translates to less suspension fade and better performance. But for a cruiser, they look cool and I guess it's there if you ever find yourself in a MotoGP race on a back road lol.
Cool. Thank you mang!

The Softail chassis with the mono shock to me has much better suspension than the Sportster and the Touring.
@@GixxerFoo agreed👍
Does suspension had anything to do with "Wobble Issue"? Just asking.
I will never leave the dealership again without 1st having Legends installed...
smart man
That's what I'm saying!
The Showa stuff is better than the old suspension, the take offs would be a nice upgrade for an older bike with the old air suspension.
At the price we pay for a new Harley they should come with top quality for all parts, I have spent 41k yet and still did not change the suspension, this is my last new Harley Davidson, they sell bike's that needs to be upgraded for reliability, even the motor.
Tires too I don't know where to start but tires very important
For sure tires are extremely important to keep in good shape and don't buy the cheapest thing out there.

I hit post before I was done. I played with the preload on my ProAction rears and messed them up. When I called DJ at ProAction he waited for me to raise the rear wheel and walked me through measuring the springs and told me how to set them. Did you ever do a video on the Indians? I couldn’t find one
Here's the video on did on Indian and Harley-Davidson ua-cam.com/video/qOY7RooGCFY/v-deo.html
👍
Suspension is where Harley cheaps out and for the price it should have at least 2010 sport bike tech
It honestly really could be done and very cost effective for the company as well too.

you have heard of it now.i regret giving DK customs 1100. for the pro-action package to put on my 2015 freewheeler.i cannot tell any difference.it rides and handles the same as stock.DK asked for a review,in the review i did not run down the pro-action shocks all i said was i wish i had saved my money.they would not post ny review.that is when i made up my mind not to ever buy anything else from DK.
I am surprised you didn't notice a difference, they sell some really good products and I've had great luck with them.
@@GixxerFoo i am surprised too,the pro-action shocks are some real nice shocks.what i did not like was after DK asked for a review they would not even post it
I got a remote oil filter set up from DK and had a major oil leak and when I questioned DK about their install instructions they got vague and evasive. I won’t get anything else from them. They’re just a couple of guys working out of a small shop .
@@peteryeanacopolis2037 i agree 100%.the ole man with the pigtail hanging off his chin is a smart alec.
😎👍

Thank you! Racetek, now that's some serious suspension right there!
