Is no one gonna talk about how Katabasis was actually the first guardian to SEE the real Calus? He's hooked up to machines, his body is scarred and dying.
They've done such a good job at it, too. Parts of Shadowkeep creeped me out. I got jump scared in Glykol a few times. Not to mention the thing of true nightmares: Trevor. They could really produce great horror if they wanted.
Honestly, that was such a nice touch. The whole mission was so dark and twisted, then to see this golden, gleaming weapon at the end was almost a breath of fresh air. Then, it prompts you to steal it and it feels like any light or positivity is sucked right back out again. Such a good mission.

We’ve killed gods, stopped every impending threat, given hope when there was no hope to be found, retrieved our light back to fight what seemed to be our greatest enemy... but we couldn’t save our own friend...
I hope destiny’s future expansions are as dark and horror esque as this. I’ve always wanted a darker experience, and this mission was among my favorites ever.
If Shadowkeep was kind of a "Prelude to Savathun" ,I sure as hell hope Witch Queen is going to go above and beyond that in terms of horror factor. As "bad" as SK was overall, the aesthetic and sound design were phenomenal, bone chilling at times.
@@DeLawrence97 idk didn't really feel that spooked out by spooky hive reskins and ghastly guardians lmao the moon itself is not a scary location especially when you have fond memories of it from d1 and for us to really get into that horror factor we need some new hive world/planet or another ship like the dreadnaught for witch queen. For lights fall they should have a easy time considering it should be their moment to have free-reign of adding darkness enemies and everything, shouldn't be too hard to make it more like this mission.

Another voice used by the Locus? _Uldren Sov._ Seems that the man now known as Crow truly is a different person... Also, seeing you piece all of this lore together, and having experienced the mission... finally, another excellent integration of lore and gameplay by Destiny. If only they did this more often... here's hoping their increased staffing and resources allow for that.

i'm not a huge lore buff, but I instantly recognized the "tearing metal sounds" described in the black armory papers coming from the walls in the Glykon. I don't think scorn are the only things running around in the shadows on that ship. Plus the flora akin to the stuff the drifter brought back from that darkness planet he was stranded on. What a cool mission.
That's what I was wondering. The plants back by Drifters bed on the Haul are the same as the ones on the Glykon ship. What does that mean? BTW, are you saying that what attacked the Niobe Labs is what is on that Ship. And that its not Scorn? That's...frightening.
This mission was one of my favorites ever, mainly due to the creepy atmosphere, great story and horror aspects. Loved the lore behind this mission and the fantastic gun.
Ohhh, that's a good point! They're pretty relevant characters, and they seem like obvious picks for lines, unless they're alive. I've run the mission 4 times and never heard any of them.

The ones that were dead is Vance since I believe I read things that says that an other copy of him killed him inside the Infinite Forest after he went into a time loop in search of Osiris.
The soundtrack is fascinating, it has tinges of the Dominus Ghaul theme. It’s creepy and yet nostalgic of the Red War campaign. Additionally, Katabasis is an Ancient Greek word which is used to mean “going down,” which can refer to a couple things. It can refer to literal descent, or to journey into the underworld, for example. Props to the team at Destiny for really throwing in the symbolism.
Im over here abusing it in Gambit and Crucible before it gets nerfed. Incoming Invader? 3 shot no problem. You're the invader with an oversheild? Wipe out the whole team. Crucible? Mass carnage of everyone using this gun = balance

easily one of the biggest takeaways from this is the true calus reveal, and how pathetic of an existance he's truly living, plus its debunked the theory that Calus had become the purple head within the Leviathan raid. and yet no-one seems to be talking about it.
This is the first time we've had some actual detail about how Calus looks in the flesh but it isn't the first time someone has met him in person, iirc the Drifter did in a lore book some time ago.

The flora Osiris is talking about that The Drifter has we've seen during the Alliance Quest. Regardless of which path you choose, you are sent to the Derelict and head to the back room away from the Gambit transmat zones. In there, lining the walls and parts of the floor, are the flora Drifter has.
Two theories why we hear Calus's voice: It is the voice of a destroyed Calus Bot. Two, Calus has been dead for quite some time (died over indulging in his vices most likely). His corpse is preserved and puppeted by medical equipment, his mind a digital copy that pulls the strings in a deluded effort to believe it is still alive.
This mission reminds me of Metroid prime 3 when you finally get to visit the lost ship the Valhalla. Creepy music, ship logs of last words of the crew, dead bodies and items of great interest missing which adds to the story. Well done Bungie and well done Byf. I hope we get to see with our own eyes Calus' true body deformed, half body and half machine almost like Taniks?
Calus’s army of robots finally makes more sense, he is dying, obsessed with the darkness as he believes it is the only way he can save himself, it all makes so much more sense
Calus isn't trying to save himself he just wanted to be the last living thing before the end. That's why we need to be careful with the darkness, it seems to just manipulate characters like Calus, Eramis, Ect.
Hey so speaking of that noise from the black armory papers: we heard the same noise in the bunkers on rasputin, AND that ghost-like thing that Elsie Bray has makes that same noise.
I couldn’t stop thinking about how if they Devault the leviathan raid, but instead of the normal raid it’s a darkness infested leviathan with scorn bathers, and dark gardens with flora infested beasts and dark crystal shards. A gauntlet to just survive waves of scorn
The part that is a dark mini maze made me jump out of my seat once. I broke one of the vents and one of the exploder‘s jumped straight at the screen like a face hugger. That was a fun instance.
I've been waiting for this! was super intrigued with the lore of it my first time through, t'is very gritty. also it should be noted that when I was running the mission for the first time, I heard The Crow's voice, but the voice itself that it detected was Uldren Sov saying the one line that Mara used towards the end of Forsaken. "even paradise is a prison when you can't leave"
the moment i hopped into this blind and started exploring i was stoked to see what you'd have to say - you always find connections i miss when thinking about the bigger picture. this was so enlightening and i'm also glad someone else had that same thought of "that doesn't sound like the locus" and connecting it to that old lore entry. loved the video as always!
I had a 13 hour road trip by myself driving through the Rocky Mountains and listened to about 10 hours of your videos, it made the drive go by. So thanks for all your hard work.
That final room with Katabasis felt like a final boss room, not a "victory" chamber. $10 says we end up fighting the possessed body of the dead Hunter or something like that.
Felt kinda like the room of calus bots at the end of leviathan "all your efforts were for nought, but accept this prize as payment for the entertainment you offered me/us"
I was also expecting him to be the 'real' final boss due to the shape of the room and that he is situated to look like a final boss. Only to be a bit disappointed later.
It is a boss room, it was lifted from a previous mission in I think either the story, or an old D1 strike. Can't remember which, but I know you fought a big Cabal boss dude
Since it seems like we're going to get more progression with this mission for the rest of the season, my bet is that we will eventually have to fight katabasis' reanimated corpse like the siva zombie iron lords in rise of iron. that would make the prompt of "steal" when you take the rifle make more sense
Just a note about the dead voices you can hear, I heard Uldren’s voice in one of my runs. The game even referred to the voice as “Uldren Sov” in the top right of my screen. I found it VERY interesting that Uldren is considered a dead being, despite being revived. I thought that perhaps it’s a a lore implication that the risen are basically brand new beings compared to the people they were before they died. Kind of like a literal rebirth into another person. I found that sooooo fucking cool
I loved this mission and the lore it brought with it. I especially loved the atmosphere which made things in the game seem more visceral, so I like the direction they're going with things like this
Huh, I couldn't interact with any of the scannables in my first run through of this mission so I didn't even know they existed! At least I've got something else to do other than farm rolls on my next run!
@@TBoneHEMA you'll want to do it 2x this week anyway (to get the gun again with a random roll) then the 3rd time just get the scannable. There will be a different one, once a week, so do it or you won't get the triumph. Plus this week's is easy, it's in the beginning of the mission right after you get get inside the ship. Don't have to complete the mission either.
Thank you for making this. I just started Destiny last month and our friend really wanted to show this to me and another friend. But they talked over all the dialogue and what dialogue I heard I had no previous association or understanding of the names, places, ect. I had no context and thought the Scorn just invaded a cabal ship and spread mold all over it. I didn't realize that mold/spores were not a part of the Scorn, or that the Scorn were Fallen, let alone Undead Fallen. Now I get why this mission is so loved and what the meaning of it was, even if I'm still kind of missing some information, but I'm sure your channel's backlog of videos will help. :)
I got a huge Dead Space vibe from this mission, a couple jump scares with the screebs in those tight corridors really set the mood. Also the creepy noises in vents and stuff.

My Theory: The Planets that "Disappeared" are being (If the Definition of of Ruinous Effigy is to be believed, And from reading the Gardener and the Winnower lore book.) I believe that the Darkness is Destroying and subsequently re-forming the Planets in a sort of limbo that only the Pyramids can enter so they can become Perfect versions of the winnowers image of the Universe where only the Strong can survive. At least that's my theory as to why the planets disappeared.
Its my running theory that Calus is dead. This is backed up by us hearing his voice in the ship alongside Cayde's and Ghaul. You can hear the dead in the ship. Calus is dead.
You can also here Uldren though. So he may have died but been regenerated or reborn some how. I would prefer that because since he has been a major part of Destiny 2, it would be disappointing to never see him in person or fight him for real.
Another fantastic video. My initial playthrough had Uldren saying "The line between light and dark is so very thin" while my fireteam buddy had sagira dialouge. Loved the mission and the reward. 11/10 want more stuff like this.
The voice that spoke to me was that of Udren Sov of all people. There are so many strange little nervous and craziest things that are normally schedule that I’m excited for them to go back through an admin. The ghost was one of the things that I was very excited to fine but kind of sad that there wasn’t anything that I can scan on it. Super excited to go back whenever they decide to make those things available.
Me: *Hears "Callus" and "Crown". That guy JUST won't learn his lesson with the damn thing does he!? 16:20 - Among those voices was Crow, too... Strange. Who knows. Maybe Callus has been dead for quite sometime... We never met him - in person. Maybe he is just another puppet of Savathun...

Yeah the area before the rally banner with the scorn snipers. I saw theres a ghost shell in collection says you earn it from the mission its called “shell of gilgamesh” i assume we get it after retrieving him.

If you think of putting yourself in the Destiny universe, the horror element deserves to be in it way more.
The mask of Bakris was a great one-off horror lore, but this is a really good ongoing one

Calus’s army of robots finally makes more sense, he is dying, obsessed with the darkness as he believes it is the only way he can save himself, it all makes so much more sense
The reason he is dying is because of that exact reason. He had an accident of a deadly poison that made him that form
Calus isn't trying to save himself he just wanted to be the last living thing before the end. That's why we need to be careful with the darkness, it seems to just manipulate characters like Calus, Eramis, Ect.

The part that is a dark mini maze made me jump out of my seat once. I broke one of the vents and one of the exploder‘s jumped straight at the screen like a face hugger. That was a fun instance.
I've been waiting for this! was super intrigued with the lore of it my first time through, t'is very gritty. also it should be noted that when I was running the mission for the first time, I heard The Crow's voice, but the voice itself that it detected was Uldren Sov saying the one line that Mara used towards the end of Forsaken. "even paradise is a prison when you can't leave"
The sounds from the mission remind me of how one of the black armory member lore tabs described the darkness sounding once it broke into their bunker

First time in a long time where im really invested in a lore
That final room with Katabasis felt like a final boss room, not a "victory" chamber. $10 says we end up fighting the possessed body of the dead Hunter or something like that.
Felt kinda like the room of calus bots at the end of leviathan "all your efforts were for nought, but accept this prize as payment for the entertainment you offered me/us"
I was also expecting him to be the 'real' final boss due to the shape of the room and that he is situated to look like a final boss. Only to be a bit disappointed later.
It is a boss room, it was lifted from a previous mission in I think either the story, or an old D1 strike. Can't remember which, but I know you fought a big Cabal boss dude

Since it seems like we're going to get more progression with this mission for the rest of the season, my bet is that we will eventually have to fight katabasis' reanimated corpse like the siva zombie iron lords in rise of iron. that would make the prompt of "steal" when you take the rifle make more sense
Just a note about the dead voices you can hear, I heard Uldren’s voice in one of my runs. The game even referred to the voice as “Uldren Sov” in the top right of my screen. I found it VERY interesting that Uldren is considered a dead being, despite being revived. I thought that perhaps it’s a a lore implication that the risen are basically brand new beings compared to the people they were before they died. Kind of like a literal rebirth into another person. I found that sooooo fucking cool

I loved this mission and the lore it brought with it. I especially loved the atmosphere which made things in the game seem more visceral, so I like the direction they're going with things like this
Huh, I couldn't interact with any of the scannables in my first run through of this mission so I didn't even know they existed! At least I've got something else to do other than farm rolls on my next run!
You have to complete the mission twice first, then you can get the scannables on the third run

@@TBoneHEMA you'll want to do it 2x this week anyway (to get the gun again with a random roll) then the 3rd time just get the scannable. There will be a different one, once a week, so do it or you won't get the triumph. Plus this week's is easy, it's in the beginning of the mission right after you get get inside the ship. Don't have to complete the mission either.

Thank you for making this. I just started Destiny last month and our friend really wanted to show this to me and another friend. But they talked over all the dialogue and what dialogue I heard I had no previous association or understanding of the names, places, ect.
I had no context and thought the Scorn just invaded a cabal ship and spread mold all over it. I didn't realize that mold/spores were not a part of the Scorn, or that the Scorn were Fallen, let alone Undead Fallen.
Now I get why this mission is so loved and what the meaning of it was, even if I'm still kind of missing some information, but I'm sure your channel's backlog of videos will help. :)

I got a huge Dead Space vibe from this mission, a couple jump scares with the screebs in those tight corridors really set the mood. Also the creepy noises in vents and stuff.

One unlocks per week. First is just in the first vent network on the left past some of that weird mold. Kick in the vent and hold interact.

My Theory: The Planets that "Disappeared" are being (If the Definition of of Ruinous Effigy is to be believed, And from reading the Gardener and the Winnower lore book.)
I believe that the Darkness is Destroying and subsequently re-forming the Planets in a sort of limbo that only the Pyramids can enter so they can become Perfect versions of the winnowers image of the Universe where only the Strong can survive.
At least that's my theory as to why the planets disappeared.
This season has been out like 5 minutes and already a lore video! What a boss!
Its my running theory that Calus is dead. This is backed up by us hearing his voice in the ship alongside Cayde's and Ghaul. You can hear the dead in the ship. Calus is dead.
You can also here Uldren though. So he may have died but been regenerated or reborn some how. I would prefer that because since he has been a major part of Destiny 2, it would be disappointing to never see him in person or fight him for real.

Another fantastic video. My initial playthrough had Uldren saying "The line between light and dark is so very thin" while my fireteam buddy had sagira dialouge. Loved the mission and the reward. 11/10 want more stuff like this.

The voice that spoke to me was that of Udren Sov of all people. There are so many strange little nervous and craziest things that are normally schedule that I’m excited for them to go back through an admin. The ghost was one of the things that I was very excited to fine but kind of sad that there wasn’t anything that I can scan on it. Super excited to go back whenever they decide to make those things available.

Yeah the area before the rally banner with the scorn snipers. I saw theres a ghost shell in collection says you earn it from the mission its called “shell of gilgamesh” i assume we get it after retrieving him.
I had an Uldren line as well last night, the “Thin line between light and dark” line
