Bear Grylls and Les Stroud do similar, but otherwise completely different shows.
Bear will bring a water truck into a dry bit of desert just to create a quicksand hole. He will say to the camera that he and the crew have constructed it with the purpose of showing you how to escape one, and he'll go on to say how rare such things are.
He'd still keep himself and you alive in almost any survival situation. At the end of the day both shows are fiction, pure entertainment with the bonus of some outdoor life hacks thrown in.
Neither show could seriously prepare a beginner for a survival situation

I wish he was too. But the reality is caring around all that camera gear all by himself took a big toll on him. He admits that’s why he had to quit. It was just too much. But he did shoot 72 episodes. He gave everyone the ultimate experience of surviving alone. Not shooting some scenes and sleeping in a hotel room like someone else we know

As a kid once when camping my friend and I almost died in a bunch of mud like this. We thought it was kind of cool we were sinking. Until we were chest deep. Lucky for us I was noticing how movement changed progression. I told her to lay on back as relaxed and slowly as she could and kind of help herself float to the top. And to use the sticks around us to help stabilize ourselves. I was thinking if we used sticks to make almost like a raft no matter how tiny the sticks, when put together made a little platform so to speak to push ourselves on. We were able to get out of that area but slow movements and laying on our backs with longer sticks under us. It felt pretty amazing to get out of something so dangerous with no knowledge or training. Just sensing what to do.

The critters in the overhanging trees reminds me of what my dad told me: he was a Viet vet and was stationed in Saigon, didn’t really see much of the jungle, but was part of the urban conflict BUT he always said that the first rule of mustering up in the morning was to take your boots, turn ‘em upside down and give them a few good whacks on the sole to shake out snakes, mice, rats, tarantulas and scorpions. Even if you made sure that they were upright before you went to sleep, their COs would yell at them for not performing that little ritual in the morning.

One of the biggest problems with finding fruit in the jungle is that the monkeys and apes get to it long before it falls to the ground. One of the good things is that if you're there when the trees are fullest, they often drop it after eating only half of it.

Being awake for long time can cause the hallucinations as well. It was something we were very aware of and we would talk about sleep deprivation before some of the bigger battles my unit was in during the Iraq war. The ability to compute small equations 4+4 etc is degraded after just 24 hrs. and gets worse in just a short amount of time. Sleep deprivation as an Infantryman is a way of life its what we train for and are well aware of its effects.

Sleep deprivation is the worst. I had one very bad week where I got very little sleep, maybe a couple hours a night and none at two nights. and at some point I was barely functional and it felt like reality was slipping.
After that I understood why it is used as torture. Feeling your mind slip is terrifying.
At one point I thought I was talking to someone while I really wasn't. like dreaming awake and slowly becoming aware of it.

On the movie-rains: A light drizzle might be hard to show on film, but it's also not really worth the effort of figuring out how to do it. It's alway pouring because a pour is dramatic and defines the mood. A light drizzle wouldn't really do much in that respect.
