Love Les, loved Survivorman. Always about what was real and not about making up BS while a film crew watched. He did a breakdown of his filming and there was an episode where he set up his camera walked through a harsh climate, then showed how he would have to go back to get the camera after the shot was taken. This was how he did a bunch of takes and he would have to hike back and forth just to get the best shot. True survivalist.
There were a few episodes where he complained about having to go back to get the camera. But he said he did it for us viewers. I like how in one episode, he said he's just gonna leave the camera there for the rescue team to go and get.
@@ComputerSchool101 lol. Yeah I remember that. I think it was twice he did that. And one time he left his campsite full off his beddings and gears and said I’ll just leave that there for the rescuers to clean up.

1:06 I almost drowned in white water just like that when I was 19 in Ecuador and this scene took me right back, it was the most accurate portrayal of a drowning I have ever seen and was genuinely difficult to watch.
I've always preferred Les by a huge margin over other survivalists; he just showed me why when he explained the difference between venomous and poisonous because so many nature media figures don't know the difference and it's infuriating. YOU'RE THE BEST LES.
Oh man that first movie gave me flashbacks. Experienced that powerful of a river when I was little. The shore sloped down so steep I slipped and I was under deep water in seconds. If it wasn't for some roots to hang onto and my dad reaching and pulling me up I probably would have been very dead.
14:45 He is calling it a 'messy tie job' but I think they intentionally made it so. The predator was recognising their trip wires, and would likely see a flawless, neatly tied trap, so they were making it so as to look like a tree covered in climbing vines.
I was a DP for 11 years and that is what we call in the industry VOA (viewer over analysis) which is great for us cos it credits us with being smarter than we really are lol. But in reality most viewers at some point will over analyse a scene and think they've had a cerebral breakthrough or uncovered hidden meaning when really it's an oversight, we've run out of time or it simply is exactly as it seems.
I'm a super experienced kayaker and white water rafter let me just say that my boy Les Stroud is 100% on point with every single thing he says in this video. So please listen to him, of you are planning on doing any of these activities at all. You will greatly increase your chance of survival.

23:17 "Why does it always has to be the girl that falls and screams and not the guys that falls and screams?" I'm happy he knows the difference between poisonous and venomous.
My family and I did a white water rafting experience in a valley in West Virginia. Most of it was class 2 or 3 rapids, which can be tricky at times, but if you know what you're doing, they're mostly harmless. However in one section of the river there was a piece of rapids that was on the border of 4 and 5. This was my first time rafting, and in that heavy section my foot slipped and I fell out. Easily the most terrifying experience of my life. Words can't really describe the fear you feel when you seem to the surface to get air, but as soon as you go to breathe you're blasted in the face by a sledgehammer of water.
i love this guy for his energy. take away all the skills and knowledge and i see him the same. i dont know him but he comes off very positive & caring.
The helicopter that was in the tree (in the movie the one the rebels shot down) is supposedly still there in the tree You can hike out and see where they shot the movie
I LOVE his comment about the canoe or kyack approaching a rock. I witnessed a similar event years ago. Went on a rafting trip (by the way i didnt know how to swim) and witnessed a raft wrapping around a big rock. The occupants had previous experience. When raft was removed a kyack immediately wrapped around same rock. It broke in half. Intense "momments".

Les, you are very knowledgeable about many things. I appreciate your thorough and descriptive explanations of things that most people think are simpler than they really are.
I can relate to what ales was saying about how terrifying it is when you’ve dunked and can’t get your footing. That happened to me when I was a teenager. I got trapped under a heavy inner tube with no hole for about 12 seconds. The water was so fast I couldn’t do anything until it calmed down. Was horrifying
Thanks Les. You may have just saved my life. Sometimes, we as people think we're so tough. Ya'll ever just like, walked through a slight river? It'll sweep you. It's insane. Don't get cocky.
I always remembered Poison Vs Venom as this: If you bite it, and you die - It's poisonous. If it bites you, and you die - It's venomous. Obviously you can ingest by touch and what not, but it's the basic premise.
@@Psyminds I wasn't being pedantic. I was saying how I remember the difference. But also, you're just wrong. There's only one poisonous snake, which is the garter snake.
he is 100% right. I am a swift water rescue technician / recovery diver and you can tell by looking at the water what is going on under the surface and where things get ugly and where to avoid. Don't fight the water, you will lose every time.
I'm with him. Make the heroes fall and scream when disaster strikes. All kinds of things are done to the truth of how scary nature is but no mythology is deeper than the "Star character must not scream" rule. The best way to show danger is to show strong people being afraid.
Honestly I could listen to Les talk about Jungle for hours. Maybe he will do a breakdown commentary for the full movie at some point, I want to hear his thoughts on the scenes after the river.
Well there are animals that are poisonous. The distinction was between venom and poison, not that only animals are venomous. The only animal I can think of off the top of my head is like a dart frog or something. It doesn't bite you or anything, but it is poisonous to eat or make contact with. Whereas, as he pointed out, because a spider or snake bites you, that is venom and those are therefore venomous animals. The frog example would be the case of a poisonous animal.

Les, the fact that you didn’t make MORE added drama? Is absolutely, unquestionably, 100% inarguably why your show was and still IS the best survival show of all time.
Les Stroud is such a cool guy. I love the passion and detail...you can only speak like this if you really know what you are doing.
That Les doesn't add in drama is one of the things that makes him so engaging
He came to talk to my school for our "Welcome to University" event, and he was so perfect
I almost drowned while swimming under a falls and I can tell you the water will keep pushing you down, you'll have such a hard time going up to the surface to breathe. Thank god I thought of swimming downwards! It would have been less of a scary situation if I knew these information at that time. I love how these videos are very entertaining but very much educational and helpful in certain situations.
Interesting. I can survive rapids now
We should go river rapiding, seems like a good time
No you cant
@@davidtownsend6092 It's really not tough if you're wearing a lifejacket and not going over a waterfall. I've been thrown clear of my raft. Keep your feet downstream, and keep your pelvis up. Edit: oh and like he says don't try to stand up. You'll only make that mistake once.
Correction, you can attempt to survive rapids now, doesn't mean you will.
Dip stroke and repeat plant your feet and keep your seat. Dip stroke and repeat plant your feet and keep your seat now once u have that tune in your head you got the basics lol
1:06 I almost drowned in white water just like that when I was 19 in Ecuador and this scene took me right back, it was the most accurate portrayal of a drowning I have ever seen and was genuinely difficult to watch.
@@RobTheWaffle I literally just wrote out what happened.
*mic drops*
True ...
Hollywood movies aren’t that smart
I was a DP for 11 years and that is what we call in the industry VOA (viewer over analysis) which is great for us cos it credits us with being smarter than we really are lol. But in reality most viewers at some point will over analyse a scene and think they've had a cerebral breakthrough or uncovered hidden meaning when really it's an oversight, we've run out of time or it simply is exactly as it seems.
@@v.k.healthlongevity9807 THANK YOU!
I'm a super experienced kayaker and white water rafter let me just say that my boy Les Stroud is 100% on point with every single thing he says in this video. So please listen to him, of you are planning on doing any of these activities at all. You will greatly increase your chance of survival.
I been watching pure survivor man in this quarantine. Gonna survive in my backyard
I’m addicted to these! Thanks for sharing. I like that these people understand Hollywood’s need to entertain, vs accuracy. They’re fans of the movies and they give credit where it’s due
WHAT DOES HE NOT DO?? He can also edit movies?? Ah man, listening to him is always such a joy!
Being humble is probably something he can't do
@@romanoonamor7690 😒
@@romanoonamor7690 Talking about his expertise to give his statements more validity is somehow bragging? Okay, bud.
This series on UA-cam is without a doubt one of my favorite things to watch... If be thrilled if there was a new episode out every week lol
Les is the man! I would like to see him and Forrest Galante do a Survivorman episode.
Awwww that would be awesome
@Ben Harris Bear Grylls has way too much energy for me to watch Man vs Wild too often. However, I could binge Survivorman.
@Ben Harris Considering Les cannot stand Bear, and the fact that Bear is a lying hack that is likely to get you killed, that will never happen.
@@Nyx_2142 I think a lot of his tips are legitimate though. Haven't watched him much but the only example I ever get is him drinking his pee.
@@Nyx_2142 Except he's not because he was the teacher of survival in the SAS. Which is arguably the best special forces in the world. Just because your favourite survivalist Is Les doesn't mean every thing he says is true. Bear knows what he's doing for real.
Everytime Les talks I listen intently, and enjoy every second of it. Love this guy!
Les's channel has helped me survive (hah) this quarentine. Props to him, the guy is a legend.
23:17 "Why does it always has to be the girl that falls and screams and not the guys that falls and screams?"
I'm happy he knows the difference between poisonous and venomous.
This is what I love about les! It’s all real! No camera crew and no fake bs like bear grylls
Whenever Les talks, I listen.
grew up watching this man. God he’s amazing
Could there be anyone better to do this than Les. Not only has he been in every jungle and corner of the world, surviving, but he filmed it.
Les stroud is one of the rare good tv survivalists
Love how upbeat music is playing while he is talking about drowning to death
Loved Jungle. Underrated movie
I'm gonna watch it today ☺️
Met Les when he did a talk at my school. Great guy, funny and humble. First to laugh at himself. A Canadian icon.
The 🐐 is back !
TheSkyWhale
I love that he’s finally doing that.
Fun fact: they totally filmed Predator in the actual jungles of actual Mexico! I dunno if they had fog machines or not tho
The helicopter that was in the tree (in the movie the one the rebels shot down) is supposedly still there in the tree
You can hike out and see where they shot the movie
Warden or prison guard break down prison movies.
@City Watch Guard or crime movies. Don't think there is very many movies that show what goes down on the floor in a prison
I love it when movies get things right/realistic!
Les: "They're showing signs of a good paddler."
Guitarist: "Oh! Are they now. That's nice."
Les: "I'll grab my guitar and show you..."
Guitarist: *spits out coffee*
lol that's my reaction too
👍🏻 without watching. Man is a legend. Fact.
Les, you are very knowledgeable about many things. I appreciate your thorough and descriptive explanations of things that most people think are simpler than they really are.
Between Letterkenny and Survivorman I like how Canada's sass is being shared with the world.
I would trust this man with my life with NO hesitation
This makes me want to see a Les Stroud version of Mystery Science Theater.
I never thought i would say this but i really want a 2 hour long review by Les Stroud of the movie jungle
Thanks Les. You may have just saved my life. Sometimes, we as people think we're so tough.
Ya'll ever just like, walked through a slight river? It'll sweep you. It's insane. Don't get cocky.
I always remembered Poison Vs Venom as this:
If you bite it, and you die - It's poisonous.
"notice how nice and clean that eyeball is though" 😂😂😂
I'm loving this. The start is already like a lesson in canoeing.
I'm with him. Make the heroes fall and scream when disaster strikes. All kinds of things are done to the truth of how scary nature is but no mythology is deeper than the "Star character must not scream" rule. The best way to show danger is to show strong people being afraid.
His break downs are always the best.
If there were spiders that big that could digest a person in seconds having the hero fall and scream or panic and run would be totally believable.
I could listen to Les for hours man
Glad he still caught himself towards the end after calling that spider "poisonous" like 50 times😂👍🏼
Honestly I could listen to Les talk about Jungle for hours. Maybe he will do a breakdown commentary for the full movie at some point, I want to hear his thoughts on the scenes after the river.
"I hate how people confuse venomous with poisonous"
*1 minute later: says poisonous when he means venomous
I was thinking the same thing
i guess its even harder for non native english speakers. Like in german we have one word for poisonous and venomous (both is translated "giftig").
It's exactly the same in Swedish :)
That made me lol
Well there are animals that are poisonous. The distinction was between venom and poison, not that only animals are venomous. The only animal I can think of off the top of my head is like a dart frog or something. It doesn't bite you or anything, but it is poisonous to eat or make contact with. Whereas, as he pointed out, because a spider or snake bites you, that is venom and those are therefore venomous animals. The frog example would be the case of a poisonous animal.
Les is a man's man. The kind of guy you have a beer with. Fish with. Hunt with. And when you're at your worst in the wilderness, the guy you want by your side. Such a fine specimen of the human race. Top guy.
18:05 Les, if you fall into the river and the speed is extremely fast, the force is so strong that you have NO control of your body.

Les is one smart dude. Mad props for sharing his knowledge with us.
