Todd Young and Kelly Street are old UT friends, Army buddies, and Airborne School classmates. On this upcoming Memorial Day weekend, they hope this song allows you to reflect on the various sacrifices so many have made and continue to make.
This demo was recorded by professionals at a studio in Nashville TN.
This song is about being young and oblivious to the sacrifices one might be called upon to make during a military career. It’s about being too busy during that career to think about those sacrifices as they are happening. And it’s about reflection and the realization that it’s time to start that next journey in life.
When we began writing, this song was about our specific group of friends, particularly the ones who stayed in the military longer than myself or Kelly. It evolved and developed into a song about any service member who came of age during the 20-year Global War on Terrorism. Most of all, it’s a tribute to those who died in service to our country and, consequently, were never able to reach this point of reflection.
Can’t wait for the release later this week!
Thanks. 11/29. So just a few days away.
Most excellent! Sharing with family and friends.
Awesome. Thx
Will bring tears and memories for everyone in the military, had great friends, built a family, and had a little fun along the way - so that's just about everyone. Happy Memorial Day!
OMG!!! Hearing this for the first time. Thank you... from a veteran missing my comrades who gave the ultimate sacrifice! And a Valhalla toast especially to the 13 in Afghanistan 2 years ago
Glad you enjoyed it. Always great to hear when fellow vets like it.
Gold Star Families! You will Stand for Something!
Beautiful!!! Well done Soldiers! And thank you to all serving men and women as well as our veterans and their families!!! May we never forget all the sacrifices that our armed forces make to defend our country and our freedoms. And most of all, let us not forget those that gave their last full measure! Amen!!
Wonderful song about what our Military does for our Country .
Wow! Awesome! Loved it! My husband was in the 82nd ABD, and was infantry, then 11M. Stayed with the 82nd, till he was promoted to Zulu. He's told our children some crazy stuff he and his 82nd brothers did when they were young! Can't wait for him to hear this song! 26 years have passed since he retired, and he/we still miss the 82nd ABD! Thank you and all Armed Forces men, women, and families, past and present, for your/their service and dedication to our America❤🇺🇸!
Let's show the love for are would and never give up on each other or are would much love ❤️ Vegas is number 1 much love 😘
God bless them all 👍
Great song from BDU’s to DCU’s Jungle boots to jump boots memories never fade regardless of age. Sappers lead the way once more into the breach.
This song feels like a first responder song we were kids when we want to learn for to fight fires while going to high school
One friend of ours in this video became a firefighter after the Army medically discharged him before he could finish training. His stories are as tough/painful as the rest of ours.
I can just hear this song on any country radio station. It's a bonafide hit!
thanks
This is a great tribute to soldiers!
A tribute to all those that served and payed the ultimate sacrifice. Someone needs to pick this up.
Great song. A major country artist should pick this up.
his song hits hard. One of the things that has brought me a lot of joy is seeing my friends who have struggled through a lot of pain from losing their limbs starting to find happiness now. We reunited recently and so many of them seem to have found peace and happiness. Some are even getting married this year! One of them is even getting his PHD. These guys were so depressed and angry for the past 12 years, but they have made it through it.
That is fantastic. I had a former team leader lose his leg. He fought to stay in the Army and later jumped for the Golden Knights.
Beautiful lyrics and storytelling! Can’t wait to see what else you have in store 😊
Wow! Amazing and even more amazing to know some of you in this video! I will forever be grateful for every single one of you! Thank you for your sacrifices! Love you all especially our Uncle LaLa ❤️
John S. (Jack) Daniel Rest In Peace Thank you for training the only AFROTC cadet in the Univ of TENNESSEE Ranger Co. 1965- 1967 and for your friendship later in life with this Air Force LTC. RLTW
So you knew LTC Daniel...now I got to ask how you came across this video. Random luck or someone point you toward it?
H-Minus Brother!

Great song! I want more. I bet there is a good story about the friend you had to get out of the slammer.
Beautiful song. Reminds me of my son and his friends from high school all decided to join the military. God bless all our military
Thank you
GREAT song!
Thank you
Awesome! Yea tear will come, but that happens when you remember the fallen kids. Pride, chill bumps when you remember all that we survived. Damn Fine song my fellow Vols!
Todd, you have written such a high-reaching and unique story displaying the extraordinary and almost embryonic humanity we feel we must send away to fight our wars. I was touched to my heart by every word. Ah yes... we were so young. Our military men and women will always embody the epitome of mankind as they wager the biggest check they can cash in payment for the privilege of defending these United States of America from all enemies foreign and domestic. We had one son {18} in Iraq with the 101st working JTAC, at the same time another in Afghanistan {19} was a Crew Chief on an AH-64, five years each. I did my time in nuclear submarines; my father flew P-38s out of Okinawa and Saipan; the uncle after whom I was named lost his life at age 23 on his 34th and final mission when his B-17 Flying Fortress was downed by a German Bf-109 over France, April 1945. We have real dogs in this fight, my friend. Soon we might need to display once more just how vicious said dogs can be. I salute you, sir, and your family, and thank all of you for your service!
Thank for the kind words. And thank you to your family for its service as well.
Beautiful song, excellent story telling! Thank you so much for your service! I like how your name is Young and the song is We were young, cool play on words, perhaps unintentional, but i love it.
Not intended, but also not lost on me as I wrote it. Interestingly, my 2nd song also has my sisters married name in it. Also unintended but again not lost on me.
How Many Tears Have Fallen
Tears so many have fallen
Through the years for the Greatest Nation ever
Tears for the number one life liberty the pursuit of happiness
America
Tears for the sons and daughters that never returned home
Warrior soldiers all
Tears wiped from the cheeks of so many wives
Shed by the children with only faint memories
Tears behind the mother's veil
On father's handkerchief
Tears at the base of the white stone
That wet the flowers and flags
Tears at the sound of taps played in the distance
For the memories of buddies
Tears at the sight and sound of dog tags boots
Empty
Tears when the aircraft flyover
Stars shining brightly
Tears as the ships sail
Anchors aweigh
Tears at roll call
With no reply to a name called
How many tears have fallen
God save America

I don't usually comment on youtube (if I have)... Great song! Those pictures I had to pause on a few as that was my time in the Army to see if I recognized anyone. No sacrifice too great, no mission too difficult, DUTY FIRST!
Thanks. Did you recognize anyone?
@@Young_Street_MusicI did not, but the Army (and world) is a small world so there was a chance. I was with the 1st ID (Germany) 2002-2005 and did the OIF 2 bit with them, hence having to study the DCU with 1ID patch to see if I recognized someone.
I'm former Air Force. This touched me deeply. I keep playing it over and over. 19 spinal surgeries to prove it.
Wow 19 surgeries. Thanks for you service. Glad the song touched you.
It was my honor sir. I wish I could do it again, exactly the same way.
I feel very sorry for every young life, my first and only love was killed in the war in Bosnia, I was 16 and he was 19 when he was killed. My son is named after him and I will love him as long as I breathe😞
So sorry for your loss.
Thank you
I love it
