Lyrics:
They commandeer a corner table
At our smalltown diner
Just five or six old men
Throwing out corny old one liners..
They pat the heads of children, give friendly nods to strangers..
They sure seem quick to laugh, makes you think they're slow to anger
Those guys were frontline brothers,
Their lives depended on each other
They were soldiers long before they were men..
Yeah the ones that somehow survived
Came home went on to build their lives
Never charging us a penny for the debt we owe to them..but
You can almost smell the gun smoke in the foxhole that they shared
On the days they raise their coffees, and toast the empty chair..
Aww..
They'll ask you where you're from
What you do and what you've done...but
Don't go thinkin' they're all talk, cause
You wouldn't wanna piss them off...
Those guys were frontline brothers,
Their lives depended on each other
They were soldiers long before they were men..
Yeah the ones that somehow survived
Came home went on to build their lives
Never charging us a penny for the debt we owe to them..but
You can almost smell the gun smoke in the foxhole that they shared
On the days they raise their coffees, and toast the empty chair
They'll tell you anything you wanna know..but
There's one place they just won't go...cause
They don't want to ruin our dreams
By telling us the things they've seen...
Those guys were frontline brothers,
Their lives depended on each other
They were soldiers long before they were men..
Yeah the ones that somehow survived
Came home went on to build their lives

My dad is in this video. I cannot thank Trace and his team enough for putting this together. As hard as it was to see his picture, I know he would have been shocked and pleased that his service was recognized. When he came home from Korea he was treated very badly by some of the public so he kept his service to himself for many years. He slowly started to speak about it a little at a time as we got older. We always told him we were very proud of him and we were grateful for his service. He would have been touched by this recognition. To all who have served or are currently serving: thank you! To the families with loved ones in this video and to any family who has lost loved ones, we feel your pain. I pray The Lord will show His mercy to all of us with broken hearts.
Which one is your dad?
We wouldn’t have this country if it weren’t for men like your dad.
I just found this song congratulations, I was sitting here thinking wow my dad did allot and he might not be here much longer. Vietnam veteran 1968 to69 71to 72
GOD' Bless You Dad and your whole Family in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen Please know that You and Your family are Not alone!!! my Dad passed away in 2023, He was a U.S. Veteran.
Thank you for your service. Y’all don’t get enough credit for what y’all do while we are gone.
I can't tell you what this song means to me, 23yrs of active service and everyone of your songs about the military are just amazing, thank you
Thank you for your service!
Thank you so very much for your service. Ya'll can ever be repaid for your service

Thank you sir for your service in the military
Thank YOU Patrick for keeping me safe.
God bless you.

My wife was confused because I set a place for my Dad who had recently passed away. 23 years of service. She went to pick it up and I simply said "no"... later she said she had never seen that look in my eyes before. It may not be the exact definition of why we set an empty chair but it made me feel better and closer to Dad. Miss you Dad, keeping your memories alive as long as I live.
As a disabled veteran I want to stand and salute with tears in my eyes. I've lost a few. Tyvm Trace for beautiful heart-rending songs for the fallen. This also portrays our civilian family and friends. Remember to set an "empty seat" for the lost loved ones for Thanksgiving. Bless you all.
Thank you for your service 🙏.
Welcome home brother, I miss some of my fellow brothers also.

Thank you for your service and sacrifices!
Marine and Army vet here so this song really hits home.
Thanks Trace. Not many understand what the empty chair is about and why we always set it at functions. Thanks for helping our wounded warriors too.
A sad part of military etiquette is honoring service members who have fallen in the line of duty.
Remembering them honors their sacrifice and that of their families. It also underscores the
importance of the commitment to duty made by the living.
One beautiful, thoughtful way to honor those who have died is a Fallen Soldier Table.
Each element on the table symbolizes
something specific.
Table: a table set for one is small symbolizing the frailty of one isolated prisoner. The table is
round to represent everlasting concern on the part of the survivors for their missing loved ones.
The tablecloth: the tablecloth is white symbolizing purity of their intentions to respond to their
country’s call to arms.
A single rose: a single rose in a vase signifies the blood that many have shed in sacrifice to
ensure the freedom of our beloved United States of America.
This rose also reminds us of our beloved family and friends or our missing comrades who keep the faith, while awaiting their return.
Yellow ribbon: the yellow ribbon around the vase represents the yellow ribbon worn on the lapels of the thousands who demand with unyielding determination a proper accounting of our comrades who are not among us tonight.
A slice of lemon: the slice of lemon on a bread plate represents the bitter fate of the missing.
Salt: the salt sprinkled on the bread plate symbolizes of the countless fallen tears of families as they wait.
Inverted glass: this glass inverted on the table represents the fact that the missing and fallen cannot partake of the food and drink set at the table.
The Bible: the Bible represents the spiritual strength and faith to sustain those lost from our country.
A lit candle: the lit candle is reminiscent of the light of hope which lives in our hearts to
illuminate their way home, away from their captors, to open the arms of a grateful nation.
Empty chair: the empty chair represents the missing and fallen aren’t present.
You owe them everything and keep you save
Thanks to each and everyone of the veterans, alive and gone. Much respect.
Thanks for the knowledge
Thank you for your great music and videos from a wounded OIF veteran, you tell everyone what we want to tell them without going through it all in our memories again.
THE HEAD OF THE TABLE IS ALWAYS EMPTY AT MY HOUSE IN HONOR OF MY FATHER. HE WAS A MARINE IN KOREA AND WAS KILLED THE DAY BEFORE MY FIRST BIRTHDAY. HE IS MISSED GREATLY EVERY DAY.
May those who lost their lives during the botched Afghanistan withdraw find eternal peace
Amen!! That’s my prayer. 🙏🏼
Every servicemember that dies in action should be posthumously promoted to the next grade. This would help the wife and kids.
Very true man would help the family with better benefits and pay for the rest of their lives. Any who died in uniform should be honored. Even the ones that fall to themselves life is hard and a blessing🕊️ love all of you
My uncle who was a Vietnam Vet, was murdered May 13 by a man who was high and crossed the double yellow line into my uncle's motorcycle. He WAS NOT ARRESTED AND HAS YET TO BE CHARGED FOR MY UNCLE'S MURDER! I support our troops and hope that any other families of such get better treatment than my uncle's! RIP Wayne Berry. @@shelly2599 I really don't understand why nobody handle this.
Last year there were more than 30 US country singers and two famous British singer who wrote to me.
After I chatted with the first one on Hangouts, I had known they are from a scam group from China,
and I do believe they want to help Biden and Democratic Party to make a profit.
I complained about that first one's English, he said he can use translate software to write. (what kind of logic?)
And after that, he started to use perfect Simplified Chinese to chat.
I didn't know that such a perfect translation software exists at all. His Simplified Chinese was just as of a native speaker's.
The second person could not answer any question about country music.
And the third one is the stupidest, I asked him to write down ""Hi, Gianni, I am Luka"" on a paper, and shoot a picture with his face.
He did it, but the picture is fake, although he photoshopped the photos perfectly, the name of the star is Luke, not Luka.
How is it possible, that a country singer doesn't know his name.
@@shelly2599 Unfortunately, most of them are bad guys, and they listen to China government attacking us from time to time.
After the COVID-19 broke out, they spread fake news on the Internet every day, and also bought government officials from our opposition parties,
forcing our government to buy their expired vaccines! They have done a lot of evil things beyond you can image!
Very sorry for my bad English and tell you those sad things. Thanks a lot for your nice words and kind wishes.

Many years have gone by since Vietnam. I moved back to a small town about 10 years back, and was encouraged to join the Legion. The first time I walked into the hall, I walked past a table setup with a single chair. A place was set for a meal and a candle was burning. The area was roped off with a velvet rope and a "Reserved" sign hanging on it. When I saw that setting I nearly fell to the floor. I knew in my heart what it was for. Every Memorial Day I go to the wall to say 'hello' again to those I know, and to meet others who shared in that time. Still every time I see that setting in the hall, I have to stop, lay my hand on the table, and silently say "thanks". G-d allowed me to come home. They were more privileged in that they got to leave this world a hero and arrive at the next one as a hero. I am forever grateful to them for their sacrifice.
Thank you for sharing this story. God bless you.

Another great tune! My daddy was 101st Airborne during WW 2. He was gravely injured in the Battle of the Bulge. When I was 12, I asked him how he got the big scar which was a result of a horrible tree burst on January 10th 1945. He said he would do it all over again and he was in hospital for over a yr.. I have been fortunate to see Trace Adkins twice in small venues. I was so close to the stage I could have reached out and touched him! What an awesome voice! When he sings you not only hear his voice, you feel the love and respect he has for our brave men and women in uniform♡ Each time I hear "Arlington" I think of two things. First, I think of all the brave souls buried there. Second, I think of how this hallowed ground came to be. During the Civil War the Union army took over the property of Gen. Robert E. Lee. This is what we know as Arlington cemetary. Union General Montgomery Miegs was in charge of this endeavor. He was a friend of Gen. Lee before the war. He was angered by the fact that Lee chose to lead the Confederacy. He was determined that none of the Lee's should ever live at Arlington again. He had bodies buried in Mrs. Lee's rose garden! None of the Lee's lived there after the war. Sadly one of the young soldiers buried at Arlington was the son of Gen. Miegs. Gen. Lee's 3 sons and 1 nephew survived the bloody battles. Many on both sides survived physically but carried the horror of the war with them the rest of their lives. Norma Jean Morrissey. Lover of History☆☆☆
@Trace adkins ♪ You are a true patriot!☆☆Your song "Arlington" makes me feel the love and devotion each of those resting there had for our great nation. Each one had a special story to tell, to share with family, friends and all who care to listen. Even those who are "unknown" to us are known & loved by our Heavenly Father. As a student of the Civil War I know that many who died were sadly never identified. Some wrote their names & other info. on paper and pinned it to their uniforms. Sadly, some couldn't read or write! It wasn't until WW I that our men had "dog tags". Known or unknown, each person at Arlington deserves love and respect from every American.☆☆☆☆ Norma J. Morrissey R.N. Student of History

Something we can all do to honor our deceased vets, and show their loved ones we care. There is a tradition of coins left on vet gravestones. If you leave a penny it means you visited: a nickel is you trained together at boot camp: dime is that you served together: quarter is you were there when the vet died. At most vet cemeteries the coins are gathered monthly then donated to vet programs. It's a way to honor the living and deceased heroes.

And my husband who did 4 yrs Army 2 Germany and 2 stateside, I want to thank all the Veterans who are still with us and those who are gone. You are brave men who deserve a lot more than the service paid you. Everyone of us should donate to Wounded Warriors so they can all get a smart house mortgage free to make their lives easier. Thank you all for your service. 🇺🇸 ❤ 🇺🇸
Hello Susan 👋 how are you doing today?
Thanks Trace for that song my dad was a veteran of world war II he was Mia for 3 months then a pow for nine thank God he was able to come home because if not I wouldn't have been here but I do know he suffered a lot he never really talked about it with me but I saw the scars on his body and I know how much he loved this country and how much he gave along with all the other men and women so thank you for understanding and doing your songs that you do saluting our soldiers
Trace Adkins, this song is amazing. It hits me close because as a military child I have to deal with deployments and worrying that my dad will stay safe. Thank you for such a beautiful song. This is the perfect song for Memorial Day.
Hi Cristian, I know how you feel. I'm a military daughter, military wife and now the proud mom of military sons, two in the Air Force, ( both overseas), and one who works on nuclear engines for the Navy. My entire life has been a constant worry and heartache with many, many goodbyes. It's a life not many understand or support but I stand proud for our flag and for the 1% who defend it. Trace always makes me cry with his songs and love for our men and women in uniform. He understands and he's grateful and it shows. God bless him! 🇺🇸🦅
Some gave all for our freedom
As a man who never was in the service I solute all that severed. Because I was not able to serve, I've shed many tear for all those men that served. Thank you
God Bless all our military members, past, present and future. Love this song. Thank you

There is a scam group from China send me message by using Trace Adkins’ name.
Please kindly check.
@@giannishen Thanks for the info.!
@@normajeanmorrissey2903 It's nothing!
Last year there were more than 30 US country singers and two British singer wrote to me during the US presidential election.
After I chatted with the first one on Hangouts, I had known they are from a scam group from China,
and I do believe most of them want to help Biden and Democratic Party to make a profit.
I complained about that first one's English, he said he can use translate software to write. (what kind of logic?)
And after that, he started to use perfect Simplified Chinese to chat.
I didn't know that such a perfect translation software exists at all. His Simplified Chinese was just as of a native speaker's.
After the US presidential election, now they continue to deceive people to buy Bitcoin from them!
So much Honor and Respect to all who served and are serving our country. Thank you Trace for remembering them all.
They deserve more cuz they fought for us all there life to keep us safe. ❤️❤️❤️
Can't explain how much this song hits home, I miss my BROTHERS and SISTERS every day! I make the attempt to keep in contact with the ones who made it back. Always try to keep in touch one day they'll be gone, and you'll regret not staying in touch. Don't ever just assume they are good and well; they may just be keeping a persona going and then they're gone. I love you ALL and keep on FIGHTING don't let life keep you down, everyone has experienced something in their lives, it's up to you to allow the negative to take over you.
This past Memorial Day, I cannot help but think of my wife's family - both my wife's mother and father lost a brother during WW2. We owe SO MUCH to those sacrifices, made before we were born. Her mother's parents were never the same afterwards. Being European immigrants to the US themselves after WW1, they lost their only son who volunteered to defend the US in WW2, killed just a month before the war's end in Europe.
I had a former coworker, who again, as an 'only male child' European immigrant after WW2, could have claimed an exemption to the VietNam draft, but not only after serving his initial infantry tour, VOLUNTEERED for a second tour as a Huey door gunner... Yes, he has the bullet scars, but those are scars he is PROUD of, for defending his adopted country.
Every military song you have sung has been so amazing and this one is no different. Thanks for singing about the strength and loyalty of all our men and women who have served and are still defending our country.
