Snare has two inputs. With two rim triggers. I believe it somehow blends acoustic your stick attack. They try to be very mysterious about it.
Most of the kinks have been worked out from the prototype I played now that this is the finished version. The korg tech integration is cool and everything, but isn’t quite as incredible as they lead you to believe. Whole drumset feels great. Many usable kits, sounds good live too, not recording quality though. I don’t like how locked off the whole kit is. You have to expand with pearl pads. They have the one of the best modules in the world, the Mimic, but they didn’t utilize any of the tech or any of the lessons learned from that product development. But overall I like the drumset. It just FEELS fun to play on for some reason
Pros: good sizes, good feel, good drum rack, sounds are decent to practice too, direct outs, fun to play on.
Cons: 6ply is louder than standard mesh, cable snake, locked down ecosystem, they have one of world's best modules, the mimic, and they decided it wasn’t good enough for this kit.
👍 yes, would very much like to see a comparison video! Great first thoughts/review as always, Justin! Thanks!
I really enjoy your videos, thanks to you I bought my Yamaha dtx522k, and I couldn't be happier with it, thank you.
Sweet! That drumset is a pretty good value for the money right now
I’m still playing mine. Great kit for the money.
You are the go to man for edrums I really enjoy your videos.. I just bought the TD-17KVX after 12 years with my td-9 and oh my God is like moving from a fiat to Ferrari, I'm so happy with my buy and it sounds like having an acoustic drum set to my ears.. Keep them coming, greetings from Greece..!!
I need to show this video to my wife...this is our favorite new Edrum kit.
Thanks Justin, I've been waiting for this review. I love my Wavedrum & was eager to see how Pearl & Korg were going to knock us dead. It seems to me that each company was only going to share just a little bit of themselves into this drum. 1st one, I'm sure we'll see a little revolution from these two in the future. (Speaking about the module point of view)
Yeah man! Do a 4k kit shoot out!!!
yes please I need the comparison video
Nice review Justin keep it up 👍
Thanks man!
Looking forward to see a review of the new Pearl kickpads
Love your videos man, very consistently informative and well done. I would absolutely love to see a comparison video around the $4k range. I'm all but sold on the VAD506 and will likely be making the purchase sometime in May, but it would be great to hear your thoughts on the topic!
The yamaha kp120 is still my all time favorite kick trigger.
I've got 2 of the black rubber ones and one that feels as real as it gets and it has like a blue Jean pant material on the front that's white and its not springy like other mesh kicks.
Looked at this ended up getting the acoustic pearl decade maple and istanbul xist cymbols
I would also like to see a best kit for 4k video. Thanks for this Pearl e/merge video.
Another awesome video. Yes, please do a 4-5k range kit comparison but maybe also do a Frankenstein kit, using a Pearl Mimic Pro and what you consider the best pads/cymbals/rack/stand system in an ~4-5k range. i.e. please design my next upgrade lol. Thanks for all you do!
Hi Justin. I've been sorta binging your videos tonight, and this popped up in the recommended list. I wanted to hear your opinion as I had a go at them a couple of weeks ago in a store. I'm an absolute noob when it comes to e-drums, as I've always played acoustic. It's only lately that I decided to get an e-kit after moving to a different country for a few years. I wanted to thank you for your channel, it really helps a guy like me find his bearings (which are set on a Strike Pro now). Concrete, precise information, no fillers, tasty playing. And you have a really nice voice, it honestly soothes me #nohomo ;)
I have been foliowing this channel for a few years, he's the oracle when it comes to e-drums! His videos have REALLY come on. Great advice, impartial opinions , accurate information all well thought out and professionally packaged every time. I get excited when I get a notification of a new video!
I think the reason for the metallic wedge on the cymbals is because they have the sensors in there. Their trigger technology is not like other cymbals.
I'm a pearl guy but for the price, I'd buy the TD-17. For the price, sounds and quality, it beats paying 4 grand.
Great and very complete review.I've been waiting so long for you to do it..man that e/merge thing took forever to finally come out and I think waiting that long was their first problem. Pearl been talking about it for years and how great and different it was going to be and now that it's here...to me it's really just so-so with lots of other choices now available. The Minic thing is just wrong thinking corporate mentality...as usual. I'm thinking of just waiting for Roland to bring out the all digital kit which should be soon...the TD-50 getting old and unsold... so I'm waiting for the TD- Digital ...TD-D70?...and BOOM that will change everything ...it will do to e-drums what the Korg Kronos did to synth workstations ...blow everything else out of the water for years ...and create a fertile environment for a lot of interesting innovations by competors trying to catch up.Of course who really ever knows what Roland is going to do...maybe drag their feet like Pearl has on the E/merge and find themselves playing catch up with some more forward thinking manufacturer.
Personally I love the wedge!
4k comparison would be great! Also to compare those 4K kits with a 1k kit with mimic pro!!!
Yes. It is time to update your best kit at this price range videos. New players in the game and old ones that have disappeared.
Great overview! I agree with practically everything you've said here. I had the chance to play it at the UK Drum Show last year but the headphones attached were really quiet and the show was very busy so I didn't really get a good impression of what it was sounding like (I'll be sure to take my own this year). I think ok/decent is pretty much what I came away with though. It's a shame it's not just that little bit better for the money.
Yeah it's hard to fully judge the sounds from the limited time I had with it. Unfortunately this was all backup footage. I was talking to one of the module programmers and he was going to walk me through the kit, but the meeting fell apart because of a schedule problem. I think they should have released it earlier and with a second crash cymbal. That would have given them an advantage at this price.
@@65Drums Ahh, what a shame! Yeah, I agree there, that would definitely help separate it from the others.
I'm still waiting for a good set of edrums to connect to a mimic...only need it for a few shows where y acoustic kit would be too loud...Was hoping Pearl would have hit that mark here but no
It would be nice if could take us older individuals that are not that computer savy and give us a total break down on how too use the pearl emerge module. Sort of a step by step. I would truly be appreciative. Thank you and God bless you. You are a delight to watch and listen too. 😇😇😇
Don't worry about it. The kit is truly awful!
Hey Justin, how close you think the Alesis Strike Pro SE gets to pearl emerge kit? would you same some more and get the pearl emerge instead of the new Alesis SE kit? considering how it feels and how it sounds out of the box.
First, thanks for this candid overview. Truly well done and your video implies good knowledge, experience and shares an ability for us viewers to utilize your confidence in our decision making process.
With the massive variety of VST drums available for just about any DAW such as Abbey Road in Native Instruments, what is your favorite e-drum kit that's close to an acoustic, provides realism with rim shots, brush work, mallets (not from a module/sound point of view as the VST implementation via MIDI tracks will be the final process), accuracy on MIDI replication to a DAW and great value for the buck? I've searched out many kits from this Pearl E/Merge to the highly priced VAD-706 which lacks HiHat stand-Kick and Snare Stand. and likely around $9000 before tax. As soon as Roland comes out with a (imaginary) VAD-906 this $9000 kit will potentially lose half its value is my prediction.
At $4000 ATV still takes the cake IMO. Best pads/cymbals and most natural sounding samples. The small floor tom can be a thing but being trapped into Roland or Pearl sounds worse lol
Thanx for the noise test of those pads! Kinda too noisy. I'll wait for someone do quiet, nice and new silicone pads kit
Yes do a 4K video
I think this screen i a no go in 2020. And i also think it should be compared with the extra cost for the second crash cymbal with the other kits having it.
Thanks for sharing and have a nice day ;-)
I agree they should have included a second crash
Pearl Emerge + Mimic Pro = Best edrum ever!!
But it's not compatible with the Mimic, and that's the biggest problem with this kit
i need a followup! i cant decide between these or the VAD506s =\
Similar price to Roland TD50k???
That's gonna be a hard sell!!
If only they'd included some sorta cut down mimic pro with less options but same quality sound!!
I've been a Pearl fan boy for 40 years with my acoustic kits but think I'm gonna have to go TD50K!!
I've never had an e kit and with this Covid lock down, I'm relying on reviews and Roland seems to be the go to standard with electronic drums!!
Can get a TD 50K For £3,889. Any advice from e drum enthusiasts much needed!! Thanks Adam.
How do I get rid of the cymbal layer underneath my floor Tom?
will this work with roland td-17 module?
What was the first top range kit you mentioned?
I get that branding is important, but the cymbals look like design overkill , in my opinion. As you stated.
Looks pretty neat though. Much nicer than the standard black though functionally.... different entirely
Did it feel better dynamically? From ghost to full force
Yes, do the video please! Also, what do you think of the Yamaha Dtx 920k for 2600 bucks?
Not bad for the price, still not my first choice though
Have you had the Caribbean jerk chicken sandwich at zaxbys though?
Thank you! I was just wondering about this kit. Will this kits pads work with mimic?
Nope
Hey man, I appreciate what you do. I’m a drummer coming from a Roland TD-20 (have vids on my channel). I regrettably sold that set. However, when I bought that set years ago, money wasn’t a factor. Now that money is a factor, which drumkit (Roland or other) would you recommend for something comprable to that?
hey! there are a few interesting options for you. depending on your budget of course. if you are in the 1000-2000 bucks range you could check out the roland td-17 or td-25. they both have very good sounds and you can edit them as you want of course. don't get confused .the td 17 is newer than the td-20! also the build quality is pretty good but you played a roland before so i guess you know this :D
The 2box drumit 3 is a great option as well. a lot of people don't know them because they had some quality and delivery issues with their first set (drumit 5 ) cause the pads weren't that great. the modules are really really good though! i have a drumit 5 and i reaaally love the sound. the drumit 3 is around 700 bucks (module only) and you can combine them with most pads on the market. so you could go for the 700$ module + whatever you want to spent on drum/cymbal pads etc.
another option would be getting a "cheap" set and combining it with drum software. it's really easy. you just need a laptop, the software and an interface to connect them. just get a set with decent tom and cymbal pads, the sound of the module doesn't really matter since you're using the sounds in the software. this way you get the best sound most of the time cause you basically play recorded samples of real drums. you only need a decent laptop/pc to run it. ez drummer would be one example for a software like this. or get a few triggers and mesh heads and change your acoustic set to an e-drum set using the software i mentioned before :) in this case you need some cheap module as well. if you have the money you could go for the mimic pro for example or get a used td 30!!
the atv sets look interesting as well but i didn't play them myself so i can't tell you much about them.
Nice review. Still ATV, for the look, quality, and sounds.
Hey man, what does ATV mean? I couldn't find it online
ATV aDrums Artist Series drumset
Yes ATV is still one of the very best options
@@65Drums gotcha, thanks
Its going to be interesting to see your take on the G9 workstation!
The rim looked weird lol I wonder how it feels? Great video
Am I right to assume that if I bought this kick drum, it would work with with a Roland TD20 module?
Someone please respond whenever ya can :) need to make a purchase for new kick.
Yes
As I read the marketing stuff, the cymbals are supposed to blend edge and bow sounds depending on where you hit them. Did you notice any of that while trying the kit?
That sounds cool, but I don't really notice that feature during my time playing it
This or alesis strike pro??
Man, I don’t know why you hate that silver wedge on the cymbals so much. I think it looks really cool compared to every other boring flat black cymbal out there. But to each his own lol. I think the kit looks great, but I’d never own one due to it’s incompatibility with other companies and I think the sounds are weak : ( love your vids man
It's personal preference. That plastic silver triangle on a cymbal just doesn't seem appealing to me. But hey that's just me :)
8:59 is that Shane Gaalaas?
I think at this point in the modern technology electric drum kits has evolved so much to the point that sonically you cant tell if its elec drum or a real kit nicely processed. At this point if you still looking for that real feel and sound of a drum kit...you certainly looking to have a real kit and not a electric drum kit. Something to think about...
I checked all the major music shop websites since I'm in the search for a new e-drumset and this kit is high on my list. However, the fact that there's practically no reviews about the e/merge is perhaps an indicator of very few sales, which makes me wonder why. Not only this but you'll have a very hard time finding a user review, except the presentations made by music shops and Pearl itself. Even the Pearl drummers' forum doesn't have any posts about it. No facebook groups, nothing. Very puzzling.
Justin Yu Are awesome! I want a Hi-Hat that works.
There is nothing to come close to a real Hi-Hat.
Td-11 systems are all ofe resell places.
I prefer the Older Vh 11 than the VH 10
The 11 is heavier
FRIKIN HI HATS!
Cool drumset. Too bad it's $4k. I want to go for the yamaha dtx 532k. What do you think?
The DTX432k is decent if you find one for a very good deal, don't buy it for the stock price
It isn't worth its price?
The sounds aren’t great but it still sounds better than all the new Roland kits.
fartpoobox ohyeah The TD-17 sounds ok for the price.
Dude they couldn't just use the the Mimic pro module on the emerge. The pads don't just trigger samples like on every other e-drum kit. They are supposedly doing something with the vibration of the pad. It's a different technology. I wish you had tried different drumsticks and playing with your hands or brushes to see if it actually changed the sounds like it can on the wavedrum.
I am aware of all that The1stFishBone, what I was trying to say in the video is I wish had scrapped the whole Wavedrum integration idea, and gone with the traditional route. This DSP technology integration is cool, but it isn't a magical feature. It's just a cool feature to have, doesn't automatically make this kit the electronic drumset ever (to me at least).
@@65Drums Why do you want another edrum kit that does the same thing? The wave drum is easily the most sophisticated pad out there. You can even bend and mute notes on it. I was extremely disappointed you didn't test to see if the e-merge set can do all the stuff a wavedrum can do. It seems like you didn't do your research before you tested out the kit.
here's a demo ua-cam.com/video/nrso0c14f-s/v-deo.html
I'd have thought that Mr 65 Drums for all his drum expertise would explain to people that th Korg WaveDrum tech is not sample-based, but uses physical modeling and allows playing by hand with the accompanying realism you would expect if you were playing with either hand or stick or brush or mallet.
It frustrates me to see this key information omitted by clinicians who should know better (for example, Roland V-Drums also use physical modeling, yet no one mentions it).
This kit or ATV Exs-5 ???
Of these two I’d go ATV but I want the Roland TD27KV
This kit or ATV EXS-5 ?,?
hmmmmmm that's hard. I like this one more personally but both are great
How about this kit or the TD27KV?
Should I return my TD27KV and uprage to this one? Or maybe ATV?
in my opinion nah, the TD27KV is pretty good
@@fartpooboxohyeah8611 I may just be getting my opinion swayed by all the people yelling that roland sucks on each of their demos, but yeah. The emerge sounds pretty decent.
@@sammedrano2967 it's because their demos suck tbh, you probably won't see as many people complaining on drum-tec demos because ralf is actually able to demonstrate the dynamics that edrums are able to achieve
Dude enjoy your td27 it's a great module I'm buying one in March.
This is a BEAUTIFUL kit- I love the design of the cymbals, the pads sound like they'd play amazing, and the rack looks a lot better than what I've used from Roland in the past.
However....the locked-down aspect of the hardware has completely erased my interest in this kit. Such a shame.
But does it have less than 3ms of latency?
I don't have any official latency numbers unfortunately
Please review the pearl emerge
Thanks for the video!! This Pearl set seems doomed; too many poor decisions.
Its unreal that in 2021 you can't get a nice real sounding e kit for $1500... $4000 and up for these is bonkers.
If you do some more research you'll find that this kit uses and completely different approach to triggering and creating it's sound source than any other e-kit created, therefore the awesome Mimic module is a different beast and not compatible.
Waaaay too expensive, cant you get adrums for that price?
Still not shipping. Pearl/Korg really blew this launch. I can't ever see myself blowing $4k on a set though.
I'm pretty sure the virus is partly to blame. But lets be real, Pearl has been dragging their feet this whole time. Not a bad kit to me though
@@65Drums TD 27 killed emerge have no value at this price way much expensive and not compatible, would not be surprised will get discontinued pretty fast.
For 1,500 the drum set is amazing, but for 4,000
$4,000 for that module and that kick drum, but no 2nd crash????
A TD-27KV is $1,000 less with a digital snare and a digital ride and a 2nd crash.
How can Roland be the cheaper option here??
I dont like dedicated components.
Por FAVOR, incluir subtítulos en ESPAÑOL 🙏🤞 ESPAÑOL
Great review... but for me, honestly, the only good thing about Pearl are the Reference and Masterworks series, all the rest is just rubbish...
eDrums are too expensive...I recently purchased a TD-17 KV and a Yamaha Absolute Hybrid Maple acoustic kit..brand new..3200.00 including tax ..I’m on the Yamaha kit 90% of the time.
Holy cow that module is ugly! Good video though.
second!
Instead of bringing this set, which nobody really needs, because there are enough others available already…...I hate PEARL for that they DON´T Show enough love, passion and support for the Mimic Pro. I am waiting for new sounds and sampled stuff for my Mimic Pro, I want better sounding Toms and Cymbals and the SSD4 Chris Lord Alge Expansion pack for my Mimic Pro.
@PEARL with all your strange moves and bad Business decisions you destroy the image and the great potential of the Mimic Pro.
I got banned for asking that in a edrums forum..
@@laloadler8044 I can imagine which forum it was. Asking for a better Mimic support and new sounds or producer packages in forums is a NoGo, which is a NoGo. I left playing my Mimic, I went back to my acoustic kit. I am sick of Edrums, nothing beats a real snare, real tom and real cymbals. Every year there is a new Edrum kit released, but I don't see any great one out there, most ones sound like trash for me. The Mimic was the only one with great potential, but honestly, for me the triggering is not the greatest. I really don't get my Drum-Tec kit dialed in properly, after years trying to, I gave up.
first !
quite pricey for a set that sounds a bit lame.
Meh, 2box still wins, soundwise
$4,000??? HOLLY SHIT! you can buy an expensive 7 piece with high hat and symbols for less!! the idea of electronic is 2 fold, quieter and affordability versus a real drum kit. when the price of one is twice as much as an expensive high quality accoustic set? i'm good!!
Thats not even getting into tone quality and options etcetra,
Ok, then buy the acoustic one. But remember that's like saying a keyboard is bad because you could buy a upright piano instead. They are different things entirely.
@@65Drums I think you may be missing my point. I was thinking more in terms of who a $4,000 kit is marketed to.
Its price rang is geared towards a drummer that is out playing arenas and football stadiums. Thats my point. is this a professional arena electric drum kit? Or a very over priced every day musician that plays in night clubs doing covers? or most of us, who just like to have great gear so we can jam at home??
@@anthonymiller7992 Unfortunately pricing in the electronic drum industry is higher than acoustic. This isn't geared for arena drummers. It's more for people that just want to play quietly at home, or play small to medium-sized concerts. That may seem hard to believe, but that's who I see buying drum sets like this the most often.
Yeah that ride was pretty garbage
yeah..2012 called. they want their sounds back...seriously wtf? my 2box drumit 5 sounds better than this FOURTHOUSAND dollar set..
Der ist nur am Quatschen Sound nicht verfügbar von dem Teil... Mega schlecht vorstellt !!!
Cymbals are ugly
