    I was lucky enough to be at NAMM 2020 and have auditioned many different kits and have personally owned the NFUZD, ATV, Roland VAD with the TD27 and now the Pearl E/Merge.. hands down the best feeling and most realistic drum pads - I often sit and practice with the power off and just move around the kit like a practice pad set. The acoustic sounds / presets are among the highest quality and most realistic performing I have ever heard from any module - very expressive and responsive. The tuning / transpose , eq / compression on every instrument... and routing of separate metronome in sound projects / backing tracks ... USB recording & MIDI of course .. 35 onboard FX .. etc - makes the feature set very strong ... definitely a misunderstood and overlooked kit for sure .. enjoy ! And thanks for making this video ! Cheers 🍻

    Nice performance! How does the e/merge module handle midi out? Does it send midi sound or just midi trigger data?

    I wonder which one felt better to play with? I'm going to pair it with the mimic pro so I guess sound wise it doesn't matter.

    I’m currently struggling with that, thanks !!

      James Kim of all the kits I have tried at stores and NAMM 2020 .. and have personally owned the NFUZD, ATV , VAD wTD27 , E/Merge ; the E/Merge has the best feel on the drums to me by far . I often just sit and practice without the power on just moving around the kit - very natural and realistic. The quality of the sounds and flexibility of tuning and routing etc is outstanding ! A misunderstood and overlooked kit for sure ! Enjoy !

    Pregunto porque veo que golpeas más fuerte la batería Pearl, por lo que imagino que no es tan sensible como Roland🤔

    Neither are hybrid kits. They may be using acoustic shells but nothing about theese kits are functionally acoustic.

      Parts of the Pearl e/merge kit do function in a differen way than just normal triggering. Pearl teamed up with Korg to bring our a triggering that is supposed to be years ahead of anything we have had. They use a combination of the Korg Wave Drum tech and our normal trigger tech. Combined they are said to be the most realistic and responsive ekits on the market. Price tag, limited sounds, and limited ability to import sounds are the biggest downfalls to the e/merge

    • @fVNzO
      @fVNzO 3 роки тому

      @@revtrweberjr.924 Doesn't change that this isn't a hybrid kit. Both are just electronic kits. Hybris kits is an acoustic kit with electronic elements, say a couple of pads or layered snare samples with a trigger etc. These are purely electronic kits. Not hybrid.

    • @Inertiatherockband
      @Inertiatherockband 3 роки тому

      It is a Hybrid. Hybrid simply means combining 2 or more elements into 1. What elements on these e-kits make them Hybrid you ask? The look and feel of an acoustic kit ( compared to other e kits on the market ) is the " hybridization ". I know it's technical, and I certainly get your point. That said, these are some of the most acoustic-like e kits currently available on the market. Till they create something even closer, this is it fam.

    • @fVNzO

      @@Inertiatherockband The term hybrid drumming has already been very well established. It's a very well known term already specifically referring to acoustic drums with electronic elements. Most often octopads, or similar pads for triggering specific sounds, triggers on snares, kicks for blending sounds. Stuff like that. There is not a single acoustic element available on this e-kit. I don't think there's any reason to muddy the waters with an already well established term that has been used for decades. The whole thing is built to produce as few vibrations as physically possible. You only serve to confuse newcomers here imo. Even if we were to go by the strict definition of the term, there's nothing acoustic to speak off here other than the looks. You could just as easily argue that this very fact helps to build my case. Acoustic drums doesn't even have to look anything like normal shell sizes. They can be chopped off, built out of steel, metals, wood, as long as they serve an acoustic purpose. This kit is engineered to do the opposite. It is not hybrid by the established term, it isn't trying to be either and it's gonna be very confusing to suggest otherwise.

      @@fVNzO I`m with you on these points. I play an electronic kit for practice but I use a TAYE Go Kit with the band with real cymbals and dampened mylar headed toms & snare to reduce but not kill the acoustic volume. From there, I use Roland triggers and the Roland TM-6 Pro to layer whatever sounds I want over that through the PA. The reason I do it this way is to preserve the front end attack generated by the acoustic mylar heads. If I use Mesh heads, the drums just get buried in the mix and totally lack punch. I`ve done a ton of experimenting over the years but this works better than anything I`ve tried by far. Now thats hybrid drumming.

    Apart from the fact I don't understand the term "hybrid"... When testing "hybrid" electric kits..why test electronic sounds? A comparison of the acoustic kits of the modules would be more useful as these sets are obviously for on stage replacing acoustic sets. However, I own a Roland myself and none of the sounds (including from this video) would satisfy me with the sounds on stage. Done 2 gigs with my Roland (for reasons of volume) and hearing the tape later on...it just don't sound musical to my ears (PA: Presonus and QSC speakers). No depth or a lot..no nuances..not or just wayyyyy to expressive (creating a large boosted "subsound" against "heavy" hits..but not like "subsounds" like with acoustic sets creating (for me!!) more chaos then musicality). Still a longggg way to go in terms of development.

      Ricardo Havertong I hear you! I have the TD-17KVX and only play it out in places where loud sound was a big issue. I also use it at home for band practice. I have a DW Performance kit with Meinl cymbals and these kit are far from being there (still cheaper than the VAD line). I always pick the real kit for regular gigs. The electric sounds are not there yet, they lack depth, overtones, punch, nuance, dynamics, etc. I like the true hybrid when I just layer my acoustic kit with electric sounds, that’s sounds great.

    • @keithnoftle1517
      @keithnoftle1517 3 роки тому +3

      Ricardo Havertong I was gigging with a Roland TD-10 kit for close to 20 years and had it configured such that it sounded wayyyy better than acoustic drums. Sounds like you’re using your Roland right out of the box and expecting it to duplicate acoustic kits. Well it doesn’t work that way by design, because everyone has different tastes and ears so the default configurations are very flat. I recently upgraded to the Roland VAD506 w/TD-27, and can tell you that the modules have in fact come a longggg way in terms of development. It takes some effort, knowledge, and experience to bring out those nuances and it is pretty amazing when you get them right.

    • @CeciShaw

      Keith Noftle my Roland module has acoustic samples added that I recorded at our studio, only then did it sounded decent. Been programming electronic kits for ages. They can’t compare to a real kit yet. I love electronic drums but I can have an acoustic kit ready to go onstage in 10 minutes with sound check. For me electronic drums are good for layering already acoustic kits.

      Ceci Shaw that’s your opinion and I respect it as well as everyone else’s. My opinion and experience remains quite the opposite though, and it is shared by many other e-drummers who have been working and mastering these kits and modules for many years.

      @@keithnoftle1517 I've tweeked the Roland sounds, also I have acoustic samples stored. Toms are okay but if you say your (snare)drum sounds better then an acoustic one?!?!? Sit behind a real snare...do some funky stuff with a lot of ghost notes and nuances through out the whole head...now try and do that on an electric kit..
