It's such a good movie that keeps the fun cartoonish energy as the cartoon but also it's just visually stunning it gets slept on so much I show people it all the time they always love it
I watched when I was 13 o 14, because as a child, I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THE SHOW. I was surprised to fin the visual style to much cartoonish, and so much humour. The first time I saw it I was a little dissapointed. Then, I rewatched again and now I really love it. Such an underrated gem. One of most visually unique films I've ever seen
It very obviously borrowed heavily from The matrix but what made it so great as opposed to most others is that they knew it did it on purpose and used it so well
speed racer was such an underrated film like honestly. it was one of the most stylistic films of the time and still holds up today. it achieved the look that everyone wishes the anime live-action remakes had.
Hey I have a suggestion for a guest, Ian Hubert. He is a pioneer in small budget production vfxs. As for a shot to react to, Klaus animated movie. Apparently it’s not just hand drawn but also appears to be. I don’t really know actually either way it’s got a fantastic art style and direction as well as originality.
Thank you Corridor Crew for introducing me to Speed Racer. I finally got around to watching it tonight and I loved it, not just for the VFX but also for its story and the fun ride.
Please do Titan A.E. Especially the final scenes with the huge ice crystals, stunning sound design, and just how you can feel the weight of the Valkyrie (The main ship) is amazing. Also, the mix between CGI and hand-drawn animation is pretty good.
the thing freddie mentioned about the emotional energy being expressed through imagery is exactly why anime is so great sometimes, the japanese anime film, A Silent Voice, gives a really good example. near the end, the main character, who had basically shut himself off from the world begins to open himself up to the world again. in the film his connection being cut-off is built around the fact that to him, people's faces are blocked off with giant x marks on their heads, which also symbolises his tendency to even avoid looking at people directly in the face/eye which is also shown in the film. anyways, at the end, he covers his ears, because he's also "cut off" the sound of the outside world, and he slowly lifts his face, and drops his hands, at the same time the x marks on everyone's face around him falls off like a piece of paper, floating on the wind, and the moment is accentuated by the music lifting up to a crescendo of "victory" or joy, and the sound of the actual crowd around him also comes into focus, creating a cacophony of sound showcasing him reconnecting with the world around him in sooooo many different ways, showcasing his metaphorical mental and emotional changes, its honestly an incredibly brilliant piece of art.
Nah, man. A properly groomed and sculpted beard looks anything but lazy, but you have to constantly work at it. The goatee is for when you want to be lazy about not being lazy.
Wont lie, the video that got me into video editing was Freddie's Cereal Killer. Before I found that video I thought UA-cam was just a place for short and funny clips, but when I found that video and watched it multiple times I was amazed. The part that blew me away was the fact that there was a behind the scene video showing off how it was all done. I think I started studying video editing for a good while after that, watching whatever behind the scene videos I could get my hands from them, learning what to do and not to do, everything. I never got super deep into video editing honestly, 3D stuff is still far from being done in my mind but what I learned back then was something I could use for a long time coming. Oh also Freddie needs to grow a Viking beard, braid and all.

I mean, taking in-universe snow and using it to create internally justified motion lines? 1000000 IQ genius move.
It's a friggin classic
Speed racers is one of the msot underrated movies, the final race is a cinematic masterpiece.

Freddy’s enthusiasm for Speed Racer is infectious.
Also it’d be neat to see you guys react to Walking With Dinosaurs. Maybe compare it to more recent dinosaur documentaries.
Freddie's enthusiasm is infectious, period.
No beard suggestion, no like.
ONE METER LONG BEARD, AS THIN AS POSSIBLE!!! be mysterious, Freddie!!
Beard with one hair?
@@interfusor lol imagine beard with one hair

What if, you all remake “The Test” together. To show how far you all have come.
Beard or no beard? There's only one right answer: the longest beard possible.
Freddie, no eyebrows, the comments have spoken
Gonna wait for his hair to turn grey as well. Start calling him the CGI Sage.
CGI beard surely?
Shave your head, long beard
So Darwin style?
Speed Racer! My actual favorite movie. Not even close.
yaaas
Amen
See imo it's actually pretty dire initially, however the moment the dad character says 'ninjas? More like nonjas' the film grabs itself 5 stars of quality out of nowhere and becomes superb to the end.
I watched that movie when it was in the Theaters.
Best live action anime movie of all time.
3:15 using snow as speed lines as the cameras whips by is genius

So true.

Haha saw that too. Especially in the intro
Freddie is an awesome guest! also half beard Freddie when?
Oh wow didn't expect your channel here 👌 nice
Maybe if you ask them to react to Netflix's Love Death and Robots, they will finally do it? They promised that like a year ago :(
Fancy finding you here, man behind the slaughter
It's been so long
I've loved the live action speed racer movie for years, and to see these guys so excited about it makes me happy
So happy you got Freddie, really been looking forward to seeing him on this. A real youtube legend.
People look at me like I'm an idiot whenever I tell them how great Speed Racer was. I'm glad some pros appreciate it too! Some scenes give me chills.
Dang, Freddie is the most relaxed guest they've had on the couch 😂
The effects were cool, the movie still sucks. CGI doesnt make a movie good.
I think the issue with Speed Racer was that it fully embraced the cheese of the source while also fully embracing modern visuals, which may have been jarring for some people. I enjoy it as a fun movie.
Guys chill. It was a fun movie.
@@alainchristian yeah... no.... Speed Racer is the embodiment of a shiny turd. Just embrace it.
I agree, I still get goosebumps watching certain scenes!
Glad you guys liked the visuals in Speed Racer so much. My uncle (George Hull) was a Concept Artist/Designer on it and it always makes me proud to hear that people love how gorgeous of a movie it is.
from the bottom of my heart man, I love this movie. your uncle did a fantastic job on this film and I go back to see it yearly
Your uncle did really incredible work! Speed Racer is phenomenal, and all of the art design in the movie is superb.
Speed Racer looks amazing. Your uncle's team really pulled their weight on that one
That movie blew my dang mind. I finally got to watch it in 4K last year and I had full body goosebumps constantly. Tell your uncle thank you for the experience.
Dude, sincerely, it's one of my favorite movies ever. It has its flaws, but it's dripping with style, all of the action feels dynamic, and it still gets me at the end, making me want to jump up and shout, and cheer Speed on. Your uncle did a fantastic job.
I think Freddie is the most eloquent and philosophical of the whole Corridor Crew bunch. His explanations about Speed Racer as an exploration for new visual languages are spot on.
Speaking of Speed Racer...
For the next Animators React episode:
"Redline"
Yeeeeees!!!
Actually I watched Redline and wanted to rewatch the Speed racer .
I was hoping someone would suggest this!
Its the only other movie that gives me the chills like speed racer, soo good.
I agree. It's 7 years of hand animated beauty. And an awesome soundtrack
Redline was an absolute blast.
It's soo good to see Freddie again. He's still got that energy going, loved his little inserts.
I wanted speed racer like 100 times growing up THAT MOVIE IS UNDER RATED
more people should see it
I love Freddie. His energy is so pure and he’s so happy to talk about movies and vfx. Can clearly see his appreciation for it all.
Damn, Speed Racer was like a surrealistic painting set into motion. I watched it when I was a kid and I remember watching it like I was in a dream.
Watching them praise the visual effects of Speed Racer was so wholesome and put a smile on my face. One of my favorite movies of all time.
Same, I was so giddy as they were in awe by it. It was a movie I saw with my dad and it's a trip down memory lane when I see/watch the movie.
finally, Freddie is here! So cool to see you guys together on that couch. Would love to see you go through more of his videos, like "Pimp my horse" or "Aimbot".
what an awesome video.
Also, full beard for Freddie!
Definitely beard, connect the top and bottom with a goatee.
I disagree, Freddie needs to go full Pai Mei
My guess is that's just how it grows. Beard patterns are different on different people, and I believe this pattern is more common in the Asian population.
What beard? There is zero testosterone on this couch. The guy on the right has a perm combover.

gotta love freddie's iconic outfit. glasses, shirt, shorts and flipflops
And the poses. I can only hope to one day feel as relaxed as Freddie sits.
Peak Asian attire
For Freddie I would say no beard, but for the amazing VFX artists at Corridor Digital please react to the car chase scene from The Sorcerers Apprentice.
Also it has Nicholas Cage
Cinema Therapy’s love for Speed Racer is just as intense as this. Love the sheer enthusiasm for movies!!
I want Freddie to grow his beard longer, and wait for his hair to turn white. The CGI Sage.

Such an amazing movie, loved it

it’s a personal favorite
It deserved to only be on blu ray I’m sorry you had to watch it on poor quality dvd
That movie was so confusing. BUt i watched it on bootleg idk if that copy had some shit missing from it or what
It's amazing to hear so much praise for speed racer. Ever since it came out all I ever heard or saw was people giving it grief with no reasoning. I do wish that a second one came out, there doesn't even have to be a villain, just like the goal to try and win a championship or something
"You're telling me on my home PC I can make an action movie THIS COOL?!?!"
That was literally my exact reaction when I was 12 years old watching "Modern Warfare: The Frozen Crossing", "Greenside", "Chrono Trigger" and all the other classic FreddieW and Corridor pieces, and first got me into filmmaking. I wonder if these guys will ever fully understand the effect their work has had on myself and probably countless others.
Freddie got hella real this episode. It's nice to see someone be so themselves. I mean we all in on Speed Racer. That movie gets a lot of mixed feelings, he went fully positivity.
Freddie really did just take control of VFX Artist reacts and made it his own
I miss freddiew2.

No. Not even close when you take into account how much they changed they actual story. They were relying on the nostalgia factor of the 30 somethings who’d watched it growing up, but made too many changes.

Speed racer is a underrated masterpiece, this movie is what made me fall in love with movies it was my childhood. It was ahead of it's time
Honestly "The One" was sick, especially the head replacement for Jet Li.

@@JustAskThisDad definitely, I would always watch it back in the day
That entire scene with the slow mo was so sick, combined with the music made it better.

Especially the final scenes with the huge ice crystals, stunning sound design, and just how you can feel the weight of the Valkyrie (The main ship) is amazing. Also, the mix between CGI and hand-drawn animation is pretty good.

"ft. Freddie Wong" *Has me missing 2012-2013 UA-cam*
I still remember when the minecraft video came out... Y'all remember the zipline they had in their studio way back in the day?
the thing freddie mentioned about the emotional energy being expressed through imagery is exactly why anime is so great sometimes, the japanese anime film, A Silent Voice, gives a really good example. near the end, the main character, who had basically shut himself off from the world begins to open himself up to the world again. in the film his connection being cut-off is built around the fact that to him, people's faces are blocked off with giant x marks on their heads, which also symbolises his tendency to even avoid looking at people directly in the face/eye which is also shown in the film. anyways, at the end, he covers his ears, because he's also "cut off" the sound of the outside world, and he slowly lifts his face, and drops his hands, at the same time the x marks on everyone's face around him falls off like a piece of paper, floating on the wind, and the moment is accentuated by the music lifting up to a crescendo of "victory" or joy, and the sound of the actual crowd around him also comes into focus, creating a cacophony of sound showcasing him reconnecting with the world around him in sooooo many different ways, showcasing his metaphorical mental and emotional changes, its honestly an incredibly brilliant piece of art.
I recommend a goatee - it says "This facial hair isn't because I'm lazy, I still groom myself"
Speed Racer was such a fun movie. I gotta rewatch that movie again.
It's been a long time.
Nooooooo, you need to rewatch the last race, I promise you.
