When you said that The Eternal Wanderer is one of the best bombs of the past ten years, I suddenly remembered how obnoxious Koma and Dream Trawler were and I got really scared
Hey single time villain played dream trawler I scooped
It will feel miserable to play against The Eternal Wanderer
But is it really worse than dreadfast demon or avabruck caretaker? I feel like both of those were more certain to win you the game.
@@samuelrussell5760 Had a game against caretaker where I had no way to remove her, but was able to shut down the board effectively, flip her back before they could get the werewolf side's trigger, and won by going over the top. Wanderer does not let you do that. She will come down, and flip the board so monstrously in your favor, your opponent will need a bomb of their own to come back
@@samuelrussell5760 Avabruck caretaker was awful and pretty much unbeatable, Dreadfast demon was great too but died to any instant speed removal and the tokens could be bounced, making it easier to beat than Dream Trawler and Koma
White looks extremely strong for this set, gonna be a pain. Set looks very aggressive
Haven't watched yet but I'm expecting to see a load of planeswalkers on here.
Hopefully the set isn't too Boombastic
The Eternal Wanderer is giving me serious Dream Trawler nightmare vibes.
The good news is it does die to a decent amount of removal, unlike the Trawler.
Maybe the real bomb cards are the friends we made along the way
I think best commons is the most useful vid for limited.
I'd love to see a Top 10 Uncommon Cards in Limited sometime. Maybe just of the Arena era? I'm curious how many uncommons, if any, have cracked bomb status and which ones generally punched above their pay grade. Love the content Niz!
I mean, the Eternal Wanderer is alright, but it's no Frost Lynx!
Phyrexia all will be planeswalkers
Holy power creep, Batman!
I am relatively new to drafting and the only format I know that was really bomb heavy was crimson vow with toxrill and the caretaker.
Here we have the problem that the uncompleted planeswalkers are rares despite some of them are considerably stronger than the completed ones, which are mythics, and we have the suns twilight cycle with game ending effects for the late game.
Hope that doesn't ruin the format, because the mechanics of it are otherwise pretty cool❤️
I got both Kaya and Kaito in my sealed deck. I went UB proliferate and was able to splash to white, with two Masticores feeding off all the draw. Worked so well!
Cool video..I just started playing at the start of this release. Where do u think I should begin?
nissa is my favorite out of all these planswalkers in this set even if shes hard to cast the plus 1 makes a reasonable body no matter what turn you play her on the -1 as nizzahon said can shut down aritfacts and enchantments which there are plenty of in this set and her -7 yeesh i dont know how an opponent could come back from that if you have a good amount of creatures and forests on the field she is an amazing planswalker i hope to play her in one of the prereleases i go to this weekend
As you said, I really think that "the eternal wanderer" is one of the most broken bombs in last last few years - and its rare, so you will run against it "pretty" commonly. Definitely a mistake making it rare, could be pretty format defining. I think you loose 99% of your games if op plays this card..
Honestly? One of few reasons to be playing blue in this format is to have a counterspell handy. There's so many planeswalkers in the format that even having a removal on hand (and the mana to use it) does not guarantee you'll be able to deal with them.
If you think that's bad, they once printed colossal dreadmaw at common!
It feels like they designed all the planeswalkers to be mythics, but realized the mythic roster would be too crowded with planeswalkers and bumped the non-compleated ones down to rare.
I think that white sun’s twilight is the best of them. Yes, it has a kind of underwhelming effect when you can’t pay X = 5, but considering it as a board wipe that has a fail safe effect makes it seem a lot better. 7 mana for a boardwipe isn’t that tough of an ask, and in the event you DON’T want to wipe the board you can simply populate your board with some toxic tokens and gain some life. Consider blue sun’s twilight, and how oftentimes your opponent will simply not have a creature worth stealing, because their deck is built around artifacts or enchantments or something, or they’re going wide. Black Sun’s twilight has a similar issue with other players going wide, but can dig up a creature still, so I think blue sun’s is the worst of the three.
I agree with the number 1 pick, but out of curiosity, why arn't Bloated Contaminator, or the Rotpriest even mentioned ?
Lukka's art is insanely good
I opened "the eternal wandering" in my pre-release tonight. Very strong indeed unless the opponent have a 2 mana removal for it. Which happened twice vs twice where it took over the game (that i was already winning though)
the red sun's twilight is definitely situational but it can be a bomb. it's definitely good sideboard if you're in red
in the sealed prerelease event at my lgs i pulled an eternal wanderer and it carried me through set one, and game one set two, then i lost game two because i didnt ult her on play game two set two. without her i wouldnt have even gotten that far, but in azorious aggro she will win you games, absolutely. amazingly powerful, just make sure you ULT! dont tunnel vision on your own board and get FOMO!
Pulled TWO Kaya's at pre-release. When I was able to get her down I won every game. Getting her down though, definitely difficult. Several games I was just trying to hold on by tooth and nail to get to seven lands. I lost as much as I won.
Timing wise, can you cast the white sun's twilight while Mondrak is on the board, gain 5 life, create 10 mite tokens and then sacrifice two of the tokens and 4 life to make Mondrak indestructible *before* the board wipe happens?
Nope you can't. You have to resolve all the text of a card before resolving another one.
I played sealed at the prerelease, and my only losses that night were against somebody who had TWO KAYAS in their deck
Very surprised Obliterator and Vindicator didn’t make the list. I get they have a lot of pips and this format doesn’t have much fixing, but they dominate the game so completely that I think I’d at least put above Mondrak.
Those pips are a REALLY big deal. This isn't a format where it is easy to cast them. First picking them is cool and all, but there is a very good chance you won't play them unless you really force it, and you probably end up with a worse deck if you do it. That's why they were honorable mentions only.
I've won my pre-release with an abzan with black sun, Kaya and Glissa. Glissa was the best card of the deck by far tho
6/10 cards on this list are planeswalkers. that means that super friend decks are going to be insane this format
this review is for limited
@@graemescott5282 super friends in limited is going going to be insane this format.
I made it work with ub proliferate, Kaya and Kaito.
mondrak + white suns zenith?
Ngl, Eternal Wanderer at rare is having my veeery hopeful that the meta is aggressive enough that she gets pushed out. True also for a lot of these other bombs, but for samurai “I basically win” button in particular
Is it the most powerful limited card of all time?
If they activate The Eternal Wanderer's last ability, before it resolves, sacrifice all but your best creature. Now if only there were more sac outlets you'd be likely to have...
I'd like to live in magical Christmas arena too lol
Step one: have a sac outlet, I.e. have an answer 🙄
@@thanhavictus to be fair, there are at least 2 free sac outlets in this set
@@dickhammerbush172 true but they can only be activated once per turn
After playing a lot of the format what I can say is almost every card on this list is a bomb. Except Black Sun’s Twilight which is just decent. Also the list is super out of order on how good each card is but bombs are bombs.
I must know what a combat trick would have to look like for Nizza to rate it the biggest bomb of a set. xD
It would probably have to be embercleave in a set that's not eldraine
Angelfire ignition in a very aggressive set without good instant speed removal and without insane bombs could get there
Neon Dynasty: the Wandering Emperor
Maybe something like this?
Serra's Blessing
Instant
Mana cost: 3 generic and 2 white
When you cast this spell, create a 4/4 white angel creature token with flying and vigilance
Target creature gets +4/+4 and flying and vigilance until end of turn
@@hyperonmonster that does sound like a very cool card.
@@hyperonmonster that’s an amazingly well designed card. Might still fall short of being a Limited bomb…? But still, really sweet
I managed to pull 8/10 cards you mentioned
We've only seen mass printings of common and uncommon removal for planeswalkers since WAR, almost 5 years ago. Compare this to the 15 years planeswalkers have existed.
All these GOLD RARE walkers that achieved bomb status might be the true test of the shift to printing uncommon and common removal that interact against planeswalkers.
Can't help but notice that there's no red cards and only one mono blue one on the main list. In fact, only 2 of 20 when including Honorable Mentions, between the two of them.
I can't shake the feeling that we're in for a repeat experience from SNC, both in regards to game pace (ultra-aggressive) and color balance (one triome dominating others, that being Abzan this time).
It's good for Abzan to be on top. Best three colors in the game
When you say top 10 bombs are these in standards or for limited or both?
This is answered in the introduction.
Generally speaking, people don't usually say "bomb" when talking about constructed.
@@NizzahonMagic I know. I was trying to get standard and limited as key words to help your videos as I know word choices are important. Sorry.
"Most bombs are rare and mythic."
"You got that right."
-Behold the Unspeakable.
Dude imagine pulling norn, white dominus, wanderer, and vindicator in the same 6 packs in prerelease
Hot take: I don't think Kaya is going to be good at all. 7 mana is a lot and this format looks relatively fast. On top of that, she's pretty bad if you're behind on board, since she can only take out 1 creature and make a 1/1 chumper. The life gain doesn't help against poison counters, and the 0 letting your opponent scry is a little annoying. She's a fine walker, but at 7 mana I don't think she's playable in this limited format.
Yeah in a lot of formats Grizzly Bears is basically as good as 7 mana force you into BW
I don't think this set will actually be that fast. The removal in this set is very good at both common and uncommon.
My hot take? Toxic doesn't seem that fast. You can't pump toxic, like infect. You will never have a 100% toxic deck. Many toxic creatures have toxic at half their power anyway. And most toxic/corrupt creatures are just under powered without those mechanics, so as long as you play a few 2 drops to avoid turning on your opponent's corrupt, you'll be fine.
It's certainly expensive but I don't think the formats gonna be so fast that it's unplayable, as long as your contesting the board well in the early game it can act as a near unbeatable finisher for a slower shell. Once she's in play unless you were already losing pretty bad she pretty much says you win the game. Big relatively expensive bombs like her fill a specific role in fast formats where they enable slow decks to exist by simply putting a together a game plan that involves contesting the board early to get the parity at least and then resolving an unbeatable threat, the format would have to be ludicrously fast for her to be unplayable and I just don't think that will be the case.
Like Nizza says some decks will be able to take advantage of Kaya more than others
Yeah, I don’t think this format will be as fast as people think. Toxic is slow. Proliferate when it’s mostly tacked-on one-off effects is also slow. This format will be swung heavily by who drew the bombs.
The biggest bomb in this set if it was reprinted would be Teeka's Dragon.
You could have mentioned that nissa can ult right away if casted at 7 mana
I feel like I did. If I didn't, I certainly did in the set review.
Got a bad feeling this is going to a be a Prince format with all the solid bombs this set has. Really hoping it won't be as bad as MID and VOW
audio is out of sync. The audio quality also seems a bit low given that mic setup.
Wow, only two creatures on this list.
I do agree. For me having either wanderer or kaito is almost unbeatable. Way too much value on them. Wanderer on his own is ridiculous. Kaito is at the same level with a blue cat prowler online. You can't beat this
man I want to open the wanderer so much, also, her +1 kill tokens which aren't rare in the set
Not sure how Miglaz Maze crusher isn't on here?
He showed up on the honorable mention screen. He's good, but has a harder time dominating the game in its later stages than anything on this list.
@Nizzahon Magic there is no late game. Every game I played and saw played was over by turn 6 or 7 and that's sealed; draft will be even faster
Welp... I am ready to bow down to our Walker overlords this set cause they will absolutely control this limited format unless we find out that there are a lot of ways to kill or shut down planeswalkers.
They are only at rare and mythic, so it isn't going to be that overwhelming. There is also removal that deals with them at lower rarities.
You are still drastically underrating Thrun. This card ends the game even when they "have an answer." They can't target it. They can't kill it. I think you might be a bit distracted by the fact that it does it so bluntly and boringly. You can kill a plainswalker. Even a powerful one. You can't kill this. You can't even try. And it's big. And it tramples. You can't even stop it from coming down. And it comes down for 5 mana. In green. You need to recognize that it will be fairly common for this to come down when the opponent has 3 lands in play. The game is over.
Phyrexian Vindicator not being on here is ridiculous.
It is on the honorable mention screen.
Costing 4 White mana makes it pretty hard to make a list like this, as you really wouldn't be that happy to have it in your sealed pool or a pack one pick one, because the chances you actually end up with a deck that can cast it consistently are pretty low.
I wonder if Kaito will find a home in a modern UB faerie deck
i feel like that is a very obvious yes lol
I am going to slot him in mine anyway.
You didn't put Venerated Rotpriest, i guess you have never played Magic in your life
Good joke.
Thrun, the Sideways Monster
Because you cast him and keep turning him sideways
Really surprised Tyvar isn’t on here! He seems super nuts with a great static and two really good abilities.
Just too much of a build around probably.
I think he rated Tyvar as a D+
Being able to untap a creature does very little, and there aren't too many 2-drops in this set that seem worth his minus ability either, nor graveyard payoffs.
What makes you think those abilities are really good?
Tyvar looks basically unplayable to me, the best you can really expect from him in limited is just getting a 2 drop back and maybe giving a dude pseudo vigilance once or twice.
There are definitely some 2 drops I will want back
Planeswalker card type was a mistake.
This list just confirms that this set just isn't for me. Planeswalkers literally everywhere is stupid boring. I get it's the big thing with Phyrexia and them taking over, but jesus. Too many Planeswalkers.
false, phyrexian arena. would not have 3-0d prere without it
i wish they would stop making plainswalkers, they fcking suck to deal with
Two words. Phyrexian Obliterator
It is really strong, but in limited, 4 black mana is a lot, and there is good removal in this set. the obliterator doesn't leave any value unless it takes damage
Extremely poor analysis of the set and totally blind to the real strong cards.
Lawl ok.
You know this is about Limited, right?
White Sun's Twilight is going to be better than all of the other ones. It's the only one that isn't situational.
Yup. White one pretty much transforms any board position into a large advantage to you and puts the opponent on a 2 turns clock if you play it for x=5. For me, that’s hands down the biggest bomb in the set.
As it pretty much gives you a super high winning chance no matter what was happening before you cast it… that should be one of the largest limited bombs ever printed
The difference is that it's such a bad card at any X
@@Thelon3000 those twilights are 6 mana spells…. You’re not playing then for x
@@Thelon3000 putting 3 poison counters on the board with only one board wipe in the set is crazy to think is not as good as stealing (maybe) a good creature.
@@seilaoquemvc2 I would definitely cast the white twilight for 5 total to put 3 mites on the board. It changes how they attack if they already have 3 or more poison counters. Sure, the mites can't block, but can they take 3 more poison counters and some proliferate? I'm just saying that as far as I've seen in limited, a lot of times the win comes from being able to do damage efficiently every turn and juuuuuust keeping the opponent out of range
