As time went on, I thought I went too harsh on this game, I was overly critical and being irrational...however, after playing the game all the way through on stream recently and watching this again...I think it holds up well, if anything I'm too nice to it in certain spots. The ONLY criticisms I think are off or not great are 1. me complaining about the zombie shooting a gun. 2. my reasoning for survivors being invulnerable/off limits. and 3. i didn't go far enough in explaining how bad this open-world is when it comes to traversal. I plan to rectify the last two in a future video on the DR3 DLC, btw. Edit: That said, I should admit something since it only seems right. I tried on a few occasions to play Dead Rising 4 again, and I literally couldn't get through it. I can't possibly hold the opinion that 3 is worse than 4, since I played DR3 literally 3 separate times, and couldn't get more than 1 playthrough in of DR4. I can't respond to every person calling me out on it, but I totally understand why that old "DR4>DR3" opinion might seem silly. In a vacuum, DR4 is worse than 3, but I still think the drop-off is most significant from 2 to 3, which is why I felt so strongly about disliking it. Do you still hate it more than DR4? I still hold this game in higher regard because I like a few of the psychopaths and Nick is hilariously afraid of everything. Aside from that... yeah, it's weak. Really weak.
@@shushupyounaughtyminx4832 when I do my eventual DR4 full playthrough on stream ill have to decide then, but I'd say, just going off of the lack of color, horrible open world/driving, and sluggish movement system, yeah I'd prefer playing DR4.
I thought the game was fun and enjoyable but I can definitely understand your criticisms. I hated the map and all of the blockades everywhere. Driving around was an absolute chore when it should have been fun. Nick was an errand boy most of the game even though I liked him. The psychos were bland. I loved Hilde though
Hilde was one of the only bosses that interested me. Good music and a very destructible environment. Everything shattering around me reminded me of Control, which is a pretty big compliment for a game that came out 6 years earlier.
Just finished the game, i agree with your points but here's my personal opinions: - What i hate 1. Main Questline is a complete chore 2. Stupid barricades 3. Errand boy thing is real 4. Side quests are "meh" What i like: 1. Crafting is fun 2. Grinding zombies with crafted weapon is fun and rewarding 3. I like the world detail but hated the map 4. Story was boring at first and mid game but it gets better as the game progress (though the ending is a bit surprising who the real villain is)
But as he said, if you remove him from the story, literally nothing would've changed Hell there's no point to even have him in cutscenes if we're just playing solo
Couldn’t the guy with the zombie family make a good Psychopath? He’s feeding people to his zombie family to make sure they’re okay, Nick tries to stop him so he attacks Nick, once defeated the guy winds up going in the pit where his family eats him.
I agree. That would have been pretty cool, or at the very least, far better than what the game gave us. Still can't believe the organ cooler didn't work lmao
There was actually a cut ending for killing every single possible survivor you could run into instead of saving them. Look it up. It was such a cool concept and it would have been a really cool easter egg... if we could even hurt them in the first place
I almost don't believe you, that sounds fucking awesome. One sec...Holy shit, I just saw it. That genuinely would have bumped the game up a notch or two. That's really cool, wish the first and second game had something similar.
@@Dorkaxe honestly I don’t see much of the point to hurting survivors, specially in 3 a game with such big attack ranges compared to the other two. Never really felt fun to kill survivors in the other two, honestly in 2 it started to get annoying when you got better and better weapons.
@bigchunkofbridgetloreizumi4990 honestly I've only ever done it because it was funny or they were annoying me. Still it was great freedom for the player
On the main menu if you wait it plays a cutscene showing how the plane crash happened. Basically the first chronological cutscene in the game that just plays if you wait long enough.
6:20 Same reason I found dynamite in a kids store in DR 2 once... Nonsensical placements sometimes exist to surprise people. It's like finding a chainsaw in Slappy's store.
If I'm being perfectly honest, I'm kinda annoyed that I kept that criticism/talking point in the video. I mean, a katana was on the awning above Columbian Roost and I loved it. Idk, it was a year and a half ago I guess lol
@@Dorkaxe I'm sorry I'm spam commenting on old videos, but I've just had a resurgence of interest lately in the Dead Rising series and you have extensive coverage so I'm here lol. Expect more as time goes on, though I think we share very similar feelings on DR3 so it won't be a ton I think. DR 3 could have been good, but we got stuck with a mountain of medicore design.
Well the katana above on the awning was really one of the things noticeably out of place in dr1 in that area and you had to explore heavily to find it. I found multiple lmgs rpgs just laying in the road all over this game and makes weapon hunting a joke.
@@Dorkaxeyour criticism is that its in multiple stores though. Its both inconsistent and unsurprising because there's like 4 of them. The katana and dynamite stand out because they're unexpected. It's not unexpected when you do it multiple times.
I actually really liked this game. Although I played on xbox one. It ran fine and looked .. fine. It is not what I'd call a GOOD game. But I liked it. Very excited to see this review though. I'll probably drop a few more comments while I watch. Help them algorithms.
@@Dorkaxe nah your opinions are all valid. I do feel bad it seems you were mostly not having any fun. I was able to overlook most of the flaws and still enjoy my time with the game. But I do like hearing your perspective.
@@Dorkaxe I played it when it came out, just got my Xbox One on launch day and needed something to play. It was eh compared to 2, but boy did last gen get better towards the end, especially with games like RDR2 really pushing the hardware 😎
@@donkeykongisbetterthanmari7495 prey is top tier, just few weeks ago finished another play through on series s for 60fps now, as frank would say.. FAN-TASTIC!
When Isabella meets Nick she says “Nick, is that what they call you?” So you could take it as her knowing that wasn’t the name of number twelve on Carlitos list and he had changed them to hide them better or something it’s still stupid though
I feel like the very minor idea for the tragic ending collectables was to showcase how unlike Chuck and Frank to extent Nick is *meant* to be a more reactive and idk emotional protagonist? At least in terms of death, like how he gets sick often or freaks out when Pyschopaths die. (Except when he doesn't, yay inconsistency.) Like he's meant to be the guy going "Oh my God, I can't believe what happened here. This is so tragic." blah blah. It's not a bad idea but it ironically feels the opposite with how half baked it ended up feeling, and like you pointed out how selective he was with it. Also it really could've just been a more passive thing, like he'll have comments if you move by some tragic scene. Or like you said there's more effort like making it an actual scene he reacts to instead of just the long faded after math. I really don't hate Nick and sort've get what they were trying to do with him, but another big hole in this is that one bad ending. Its makes him act like a total ass, and while totally non-canon and only up to player choice still just shows him actually being a prick and trying to abandon everyone. It's there I guess just as a "We thought some players would ask why he doesn't just do this, so we put it in to make them feel like shit for trying it and to punish those players." But if anything it sorta muddles the story's representation of Nick more. lmao
I could agree with you about the tragic endings, and this is me simply pointing out what is likely an oversight, but the DLC characters also react to the tragic endings the same way, which is baffling lmao
@@Dorkaxe i see, I tried the dlcs out very briefly and didn't really finish any of them. The one playing as the Biker Psycho legitimately just burned through my patience. But if even HE reacts somberly to them then that's... yeah. lmao
There’s some fun to had in co-op and the arcade remix DLC but otherwise it doesn’t live up to the prior titles in anyway. After playing DR4 though, it does make DR3 look better in comparison.... That isn’t saying much though.
1:51:53 One thing that always bugs me about, "there's not enough room for all of us" scenarios is that if it was truly a life or death situation, you'd make room. Have someone sit on the floor of the plane, or hell have two people share one seat. Is it because the plane couldn't support the weight of everyone there? Surely two extra people wouldn't add much extra weight, even with Gary's fatass. There's even an extra seat behind Katie, so they easily could have fit everyone if someone just sat on the floor. It just rarely makes sense to me. A small car? I'm willing to suspend my disbelief JUST enough that there really isn't enough room for everyone in that case (Even though I was once able to squeeze 6 people into a 4 person car), but a plane? Aren't planes that size usually capable of carrying about a dozen people?
The weight in a plane really matters, as does the way the weight is dispersed throughout. So there is definitely a scenario where 1 or 2 extra people could fuck with it enough to cause issues. But movies/games often still portray it incorrectly.
The amount of people on a plane actually does matter a lot. I saw a video about a celebrity who died because they didn't want to wait for another plane to arrive to get the rest of the filming crew for a music video so they boarded 3 or 4 extra people on a plane, and it ended up crashing due to all of that extra weight.
Yes, the weight on a plane definitely matters, though you could easily fit more people on that plane and have no issues. As for the car getting out of the city, you could argue that maybe it would be much easier to escape with the military being distracted on the final zombie collecting operation going on and the number of soldiers have been too thinned out to maintain the quarantine zone boarders. It’s a massive stretch, but so was a freelance photojournalist who never fired a gun at a person becoming a one man army able to wipe out highly trained special forces solders left and right and a tank then beats the commander with his bare hands only after three days. Realism was never Dead Rising’s strong point.
@@Deadsea_1993 I think 4 tried to have a more "fun" atmosphere, but failed really horribly at actually making anything about it fun. While I don't like 3's style, at least it had some. Much darker and depressing with a very detailed world. What does 4 have?
The first thing i looked for was Nick and Diego on the list in Dead Rising. Not only that but I thought since they maybe had name changes I would be satisfied by nick just being listed as Male… but no, number 12 is listed as Female
Red saying he's a realist out of nowhere reminds me of Sonic Forces where after being asked if he thinks Sonic is safe Silver responds with "I'm an optimist but I'm also a realist" like, okay no one cares just answer the question. lmao
Just played the game and I think the game is cool and arcadey. The map feels fun to explore the rooftops and finding ways to get on top are fun. Its good to learn what directions you can draw through and not. Having Chuck at the end is a awesome twist and def makes the games feel more connected. Crafting things are fun too esp when the items are together. From Casual player
These people slagging this are morons. One of the most fun games I've ever played. Use PCs for business and consoles for fun..No glitches at all on Xbox
Dead Rising was the entire reason I bought a 360, and I never regretted that choice. Dead Rising 3 was the entire reason I bought an XboxOne and I immediately regretted that choice.
This killed the franchise for me. The removal of the time restrictions was enough proof on its own that whoever was now in charge of the franchise did not understand the appeal of what they had. What made DR1 and DR2 such a great experience was their replayability. You can pick up more levels and knowledge and use it to improve over the previous playthrough. This time you can just work your way to 100% until you get bored. To be honest I had a similar experience with Off The Record. I went straight into freeroam just to see the new additions over DR2 and I burned out pretty fast because I already had pretty much everything I wanted; I had no need for upgrades. I had all the time in the world to stock up all the food and power weapons and absorb everything that each area had to offer in a single go. I regrettably never got to the point of giving the main story a chance.
I mean tbh the otr part was your fault, tbh I liked having the choice between sandbox and story cuz if you just wanted to screw around you would play sandbox but if you wanted the normal dr experience you play the story. I’ll tell you though not TOO much change besides the last boss and a couple things in otr.
Same. Glad we are back with the first making a comeback and so I can see them doing the same with 2 and all the content tied to it before creating a new story with new characters
@@Deadsea_1993 Thank you for pointing that out to me. I have had a broken PC this last month so it has been difficult staying in the loop and this news somehow skipped over me. I have to say the new look has my seal of approval.
My mind must've been dormant during the story, because i didn't remember it being so bad (then again i didn't remember anything from the plot so that's propably why). I legit played DR2 at least 10 times, but i was done with DR3 after just one playthrough. It was all time low for the series and i thought it couldn't get any worse. And then DR4 happened -_-
I Actually recommend this game because it’s a lot of fun there’s more things to make/build although it may be a bit buggy it’s an old game but all in all it’s a good game
I am honestly surprised you had such a bad time with this on a technical scale. I remember playing this with a friend on Steam (online co-op) and apart from a couple crashes between the both of us, we never had a problem...
@@Eduardesuper I'd argue 3 isn't one either, but I suppose that's both underselling it and beating a dead horse, considering I'm commenting on a 2 hour video I made a year ago lol
@@Dorkaxe I guess it depends on the person, I think 3 has enough stuff in it to at least kind of fit in with the other games, like the countdown thingy and the psychopaths, also all characters aren’t cardboard cutouts, like that one guy you praised, also something I think is worth mentioning is that Chuck still feels like Chuck, he doesn’t look different or really act different. Unlike Mister Hank East from Dead rising 4, but to be honest it would’ve been embarrassing if they messed up a character as simple as Chuck. Anyway, it’s good that you’re interacting with your fans, I also love the videos. Keep the good stuff coming.
Tbh despite me disagreeing with a lot of these points, I think there's also a lot of good points, and I'll definitely being using this video as one of my references for how to improve the game via mods
@@F_Yale no, because the things im disagreeing with arent "objective observations", especially considering it does not at all come across as "objective"
@@F_Yale i havent watched the video in a while so i cant remember every criticism, but some that i remember are the road work barrels not being able to be picked up being treated as a major example of "this is what the series has come to", despite the game having the most weapons out of any game in the series. some things are flat out wrong, like saying there's no mixed drinks, saying doug, lauren and winnie never reappear, and that there's nothing in kenny's boss area that you can combo.
@@throwingoutrox Fair enough, that may be the case. Most of what resonated with me in the video was the points on the general gameplay and story, seeing how I just came from the game feeling disappointed.
this game will always have a special place in my heart, its a game i used to play with my cousin alot before he killed himself, so it will always be fun to play for me. Good video tho.!
Respect. Regardless of how "good" or "bad" critics think certain games are, when playing with the right people, the memories are far more important than the supposed quality of the game.
The Anne twist was so weak I predicted the twist from the trailer back in 2013. Seeing a blonde hair girl thinking its Katey then when I got the game it was actually true lol so wasn't surprised.
Hated the game, hated nick and hated that they brought chuck in instead of frank. I mean Isabella keys was in here it would have made more sense to bring frank in instead of chuck. Frank and Isabella were the ones who discovered Carlitos plan to infect 50 kids and spread throughout the country. Ffs nick is even one of them.
I didn't just watch this video from to back. I watched all 4 dead rising videos front to back and one after the other. I think you did one on dead rising 4. About to check that one out as well. All I can say is you sir are a hero. I love all things zombies but for someone to take the time out you did for in depth rundown like this is amazing. Thank you for putting in the leg work for this entertainment.
That's not a good reason. There should be enough story in game where if you want to see more cause they are compelling then you buy the dlc. Capcom had been going down this horrendous business practice for awhile leading up to this. I truly believe that Case West should have been added to Dead Rising 2 as the true game mode with the TK fight being replaced. I'm fine with Case 0 being a standalone cause it was a prequel, but Case West was the true Canon ending. Axe had to (correctly) guess that Chuck and Isabella knew each other over the events from one of the 360 dlcs. Off The Record was great, but it was a director's cut and a reskin of DR2 at $40. DR3 was overkill with the dlc and then it got even worse with DR4 with overtime being restricted entirely by dlc. One could argue that it seems this call was the fault of Don M cause micro transactions were even in single player mode of Ryse:Son Of Rome and the fact that Dead Rising 3 had a ridiculous amount of dlc and to play as characters that were cardboard cutouts from this "story", but knowing how greedy Capcom are, it was probably a mix of both. One started badly cause of Don and Phil has done a much better job. 2013 was the darkest era for Xbox.
Bro games adding auto-targetting when it lessens the combat pisses me off. Really great arguments against combat, especially coming from Capcom who made really fun slow combat in the early RE games too
May i just state the hemlock fight on overtime in the story is fucking horseshit, you can bring in your own weapons (including the very powerful DLC weapons) but not is the melee podium quite small but if you are knocked off by hemlock (which is common when you are grabbed) and his grenade launcher weapon is absolute bullshit, the moment you leave the melee podium he pulls it out and the launcher can shoot multiple high damage explosive grenades with next to no reload time, i was trying to get some food while off the podium ans i mustve been shot at like 5 seperate times and died a total of 4. Its hell and i cant imagiene it on nightmare mode
Actually, propellers will break apart on contact, especially with a human body. Saw a poor kid get chopped up on an aircraft carrier one time. Spent two days scrubbing him off everything
How the hell did that happen ? Was this person an adult ? What career path did they take cause was this a boating accident or a plane propeller ? It would be a quick way to go, but it would be painful beyond belief for those first few moments not to mention the terror of realizing what is happening and trying to escape the pull.
only happens on the PC port for some reason, happened to me after I sunk a few hours into the game. Such a stupid thing to exist in a game that is still sold on steam to this day (the save file glitch)
Game stutters on high rigs PCs, combo categories are bugged, not showing your blueprints but instead blank cards, Red boss fight is bugged and game randomly deletes your progress. DONT buy this on PC unless its on sale or you dont have consoles. The many problems this game has on PC is totally baffling. Worst is when you collect all main game collectibles only to start DLCs and your entire progress gets deleted.
A New York style Mall would have been far better with more zombies and it being in a better location. The city being so packed would mean that it was safer to stay in the Mall
@Deadsea_1993 gotta disagree. Hypothetically a mall would be an awful location as a base. Glass is cheap, powering would be a nightmare, lot of other people would likely look at it as a bastion so an Outbreak could infiltrate
My guy I just wanted to say that I've been really enjoying your content in the middle of binge watching all the Dead rising videos they're pretty well made. The technical issues you had were the PC port I remember playing it on the Xbox one when it came out and had no issues or bugs that were game breaking.
Yea it was weird hearing this mass of game breaking stuff when I bite many of my peeps who played never mentioning game breaking stuff on Xbox and I still boot up Dr3 on the original 2013 non refurbished xb1 to this day to it running fine. It has to be PC port or I was reaaaaalllllly lucky
Capcom are horrendous at PC ports. Dead Rising 2 basically required a wired 360 controller and this wasn't ever fixed. Glad I eventually went back to consoles, too much BS involved with PC gaming at the end of the day for my liking
ya know if there's one thing i hate about maps in games in when they're sectioned off with the only way to get between each section being a narrow, cramped, and densely populated bridge that you only access through one road.
I didn't really think about it, but despite the devs wanting the game to be faster paced and more goofy, zombie slaying fun, it ends up being really boring sitting there using overpowered weapons to destroy everything. The combo weapons are way too much.
Not just that, Dead Rising wasn't ever soley about killing zombies. That's why 3 and 4 weren't just walking backwards in this franchise, they were in the car racing in the opposite direction. Zombies were an obstacle for you cause the real enemy was the timer. Without the timer, the games get boring. Let's face it, the games don't have the content that Red Dead Redemption 1 had and they weren't trying to be like that either. There were activities to do that were limited and yet the timer added to the challenge. So the time gave weight to every decision. Do you risk missing a story case to try to beat the timer by taking that boss fight instead ? If there is no timer, the weight of that becomes useless. I found Sandbox Mode in Off The Record to be boring other than challenges. Cause without survivor escorting, without story cases, without psychopath boss fights, you see how limited the games are. Yeah it is fun killing some zombies in creative ways and yet that gets old fast. Psychopaths and the timer are the real enemies, not zombies. You also find yourself underwhelmed in 3 and 4 cause they are fully open world while the earlier ones were enclosed areas that forced you to memorize locations and unique weapons in order to...you guessed it...gain an advantage over the timer. Discovering the shortcut from Paradise Plaza to Wonderland Plaza or Royal Flush Plaza to The Palisades Mall was you giving the timer a middle finger. You eventually started paying attention to the shops and items. "Hey, here's a theater wooden sword and shield that is located backstage in this theater area, I can combine them with nails if I come back here". It wasn't a freaking grenade launcher in a toy store that didn't make sense. Making these games open world and removing core aspects removed the identity of this franchise. It was basically like if R* made a GTA game without free roaming.
weird i thought it was way more fun than the first 2 games. the first 2 bore me. i think even 4 is more fun than 1 and 2. ig 3 and 4 are built for a different audience
@@Deadsea_1993 I played DR for years as a kid, and am just now re-playing the game. Imagine my shock when I finally killed Adam(He scared the absolue f outta me when I was young) and found the Wonderland shortcut. It felt like a blessing lol
@@Deadsea_1993 honestly reading your comment made me feel so much better, because I thought that no one understood this point except for the people who made dead rising one I’m honestly not gonna read any more comments cause they’re kind of pissing me off, but yours set me straight ❤😂
I wouldnt personally say any of the dead rising games are masterpieces.1 and 2 are both dated and have a number of flaws I experienced in recent playthroughs of both. But I definitely think this is way too hard on this game. 1, 2 and 3 are all fun for different reasons. Theres almost certainly a valid reason that Steam currently has a mostly positive score for this game. Dead Rising 4 however is a whole other story. But i think the most egregious criticism is of the combo weapons. I can understand that if you just wanted a sense of desperation that the first game provided, then yeah 8 variations of a weapon is immersion breaking. But I think Dead Rising 2 was immensely popular for not being immersive. More content, to a majority of people, is not a bad thing. Id say most people loved the combo weapons of 2 and 3. Idk its hard for me to listen to this review and not feel like a majority of this is based off of seeing Dead Rising 1 as this hidden perfect gem and almost like a hipster viewpoint that everything that changed ruined the series. When arguably i think the majority of the playerbase would feel differently. Again, not saying dead rising 2 or 3 are perfect. But i think a lot of people enjoy them because theyre not DR1. I would highly recommend looking at the comments under a recent Kevduit video of the game or just read any of the steam reviews.
Alright finally finished lol. I do agree the "twists" as well as overtime mode were.. not good. I do remember hating OT a lot while playing. But i do admittedly like the exchange at the end. "There is no cure for this" "Fuck you." Either way this was a very enjoyable video and I appreciate you taking the time to record and edit for this monster video. Was a good watch. But now I've gotta know. Will you dislike DR4 more than 3?
That means a lot, dude. 2 hours is a lot of time to take up in your day, so I'm very appreciative. I literally just started DR4, and I don't want to jump to conclusions, as I'm only a half hour in, but...well let's say I may have a differing opinion on most of the community (yet again) haha
I personally enjoyed Dead Rising 3, co-oped it with a friend, however, the very second we beat the game and tried to play again to do a little free roam, my friend started having major issues that made the game completely unplayable. We came back a year or two later to try again, low and behold the bug is still there. Friend can play on their own, when I join they crash. They can join me and spectate, but soon as they join it's a black screen. Tried every fix, no hope
It is a decent game tf, far better the DR4 that's For sure. I will agree with dumb story decisions & smaller elements of Dead Rising are missing from the game but it is still a Sold Dead Rising Game Get a Brain, You hyper over analyzed the Game, any game that is done to it could be considered bad. Also the 30fps lock outta the box on the PC port is unacceptable but outside of that I had 0 Crashes on my PC or on the Steam Deck.
the problem with bad games is that the bar has been lowered so far below ground that people will gaslight themselves into believing bad games were good because of how much worse their sequels/successors were. This has happened to CoD Advanced and Infinite Warfares, Battflefield, Dead Island, DR3 and so many others. Hell, even the original Borderlands and the Pre-Sequel both surged in popularity after BL3 dropped like a heavy turd in a deep pond.
Personally, Dead Rising 3 is fun but the gameplay was too big for its britches making you just get weapons off the bat in the lockers with little work. Plus the navigation was a pain and not being able to make combo weapons without blueprints sucked.
I would have written this game to be set in a fictional New York City in a mall and you couldn't escape from the mall or the city due to quarantine. Diego would be an anarchist and Nick would be a realist (see what I did there). They both would be adopted brothers with a backstory. DHS agents would be in the mall with Willis The Janitor. The agents would be looking for an Isabella Keyes while Nick would note that he hasn't heard about her or seen her. They would grow suspicious as to why Diego and Nick would say "Pachamama" to each other. A twist would be that they are the adopted sons of Isabella and that she had escaped Phenotrans to continue her work. Diego would be working for her, while this shocked Nick as he had vowed to have nothing to do with her after her actions of the first outbreak. Nick and Diego were made to be immune because Isabella had always wanted children. Nick still has a care for Isabella and must decide if he will do the right thing or stay loyal to his family. We would see an origins story of them all like never before.
I think the reason so many people say this is an okay game is because they played the next game in the franchise, which makes this game look well crafted, somehow. You say this is the worst you've played yet, well my friend, good luck with the next one.
Untrue. I played the entire series in order and to completion. My opinion is still the same as it was years before I even played 4. D3 is better than D1, but D2 OTR is the best. D3 gets waaaay too much hate, and I feel like it's because of Dead Rising fan boys. D3 as a stand alone Zombie game is legitimately a cool, not great but fine enough game and this is enhanced greatly with a friend to play with. The DLC arcade is also great, especially with coop... BUT as a Dead Rising game, its complete trash. They pretty much changed everything that made the first games so popular, but that is the problem... People tend to judge the game as a "dead rising" game only, disregarding the massive amount potential this game has.
@@AllyJ1141. It is ok to say D2 or Off the Record is better than D1, but to say D3 is better than D1 just hurts me. I am a Dead Rising fanboy and I hate this game. D3 wasn't even that good of a zombie game. Dead Island did combo weapons in an open world much better and it had a better story too
Wow came out so fast. Thanks again for another content filled video. I just actually got this game for my birthday 2 weeks ago. Despite the colors and urban vibe I loved it.
I definitely understand disliking this game for a lot of mistakes it makes, especially things like dumbing down survivor rescuing and combo weapons/vehicles and the roadblocks, but I feel like a lot of things you dislike came from the rush job this game was, with a lot of content being cut and rough edges. I wish we could get a “director’s cut” or something that stuck more to what they wanted. Fewer roadblocks, better quality on scene triggers and such, the cut ending put back in, and even some requisites for getting the best ending. If I remember correctly there’s no requirement whatsoever, you just *get* overtime unlike DR1 and 2.
Nah overtime doesn't trigger if you don't save Rhonda. You can kill Gary and overtime mode won't happen. I complain about it in the video at one point lol. I'll say, after streaming the full game this past weekend, I've come away with a WORSE impression than this video demonstrates. Some complaints in here are nitpicky and some aren't argued like I would today, but wow, even the stuff I liked before is just meh. Look out for a DR3 related video in the next month or so, which I'll quickly re-review, or go over the main points of criticism I have for this game, before tackling the DLC.
@@Dorkaxe sick to see a reply, and thanks cause I forgot the exact trigger for overtime. Now that you mention it and I hit that pet of the video again, as for the whole “Rhonda and Gary being connected to the plane not working” detail, another video I saw says something like she needs to put the finishing touches on the plane still, and without that it doesn’t fully start up. It’s not about the knowledge of flying, just that she’s a mechanic and I may be misremembering again but I don’t think you can save her without Gary. I actually plan to replay the series myself over the next few days, this one on the higher difficulty included and 4 left out. Looking forward to seeing another video on it, regardless. You do make great points, and it comes off as someone who really cares about the series as a whole rather than someone who just wants to be negative about it.
I honestly thought the game was fun because of guys like VanossGaming playing it, but it’s the fact that DR3 was likely their first Dead Rising game….so they’re just having fun. But coming from a big Dead Rising fan..I can see why 3 isn’t…as good as the 1st and 2nd…but…at least it isn’t like the 4th game
The most nitpicky channel right after Connor Shaw. The sexism complaint on nearly every game on this game is stupid. Calling this game more bad than 4 is absurd. At least the third game improved on the game in smaller bits and innovated some mechanics; which you can't see in Dead Rising 4. Overall the videos are entertaining in some parts and sometimes the nit pickiness (even on new uploads) makes me stop watching.
@@secondnexus Same tbh. I really loved 3, and I have a short, but sad story about 3. I had a computer that was so old it would put this channel to shame and even though I had around 15-20 fps, playing the game and still enjoying it.
Dude, be honest with yourself dead rising three took the time limit and threw it away. You can’t make a huge change like that to a series and expect the original fans not to be pissed. The best games in the series are dead rising one and off the record, but I’m an OG fan, so I probably like different things than you do.
@@GreenEyedDazzler Dead Rising 3 still has a time limit, but it is more forgiving than the last two. I hate that too. I grew up playing the second game. The point I wanted to make is simple; og fans will always be upset, people don't like changes. But I like the first 3 because they all improve and add things on top of, something which games nowadays don't do. Going back, I also know OG fans were pretty upset about Frank not being present in 2 too. I love Frank, but I prefer Chuck too. What do you think about the new voice actor change in the upcoming remake?
This game is terrible it's okay to admit you like bad games. This game has legitimately nothing standing out visually at the bare minimum dead rising 4 has a soundtrack and an interesting mall. Both games are just barely playable but I would also give dead rising 4 the edge since the Capcom heroes mode is on all platforms.
Well that was a journey. I felt your anguish and despair. Kudos for playing a game you disliked so much not only once, but twice. I've definitely felt the "if this wasn't for a video, I'd bail right now and never look back" calling once or twice. If you haven't already, I'd recommend to go play an old favourite. :)
The side missions in this game really were just awful and a lot of them I didn't even bother with either. One is literally just bringing a guy a bunch of shit to modify his car, Nick telling him he'll probably kill himself trying to do it, and of course as soon as I'm done exactly that happens. No "Hey look I'll help but let me do it since I know what I'm doing." no convincing him not do it. Not even being able to safe him after he makes an idiot of himself like other games. He just is a fetch quest the player wastes time on to watch a guy get himself killed. It's not a punishment for doing something the wrong way and losing a survivor, it's just wasting time.
Capcom Vancouver is a really good example of Western subdivision which didn't understand basics (or intentionally tried to "adapt") vision of Capcom's products to new audience. As with Dead Rising 3, the same thing happened with 3rd Lost Planet title. And in case of LP, it could've worked at least on some level if it was presented as additional prequel spin-off, not the next chapter in niche franchise.
Why couldn’t Annie and the boss just be called Katie and Chuck? Not mentioning last names. That way we could assume they’re the Greene family and be rewarded for playing the previous games.
They definitely held the "reveal/twist" on a pedestal and nothing anyone said during development was going to change the twist from being poorly implemented.
It's funny cuz Gary is so clearly supposed to be a bootleg Tony Soprano, despite him being likeable it's so weird to me how unrealistically huge they made him. He looks more like Wreck It Ralph than a person.
discovered your channel a few days ago - the amount of work put into these videos are fantastic. as someone who loves a good video essay and dead rising these are nothing less than a masterpiece !!
Honestly, this game was too ambitious for it's own good. They laid out almost all the ideas without second thought, and tried to take all the pieces and finish the puzzle. Except, they were blindfolded and their fingers were broken. And they were spun in dozens of circles. Okay,I didn't really know where I was going with that. But I agree wholeheartedly with basically all your points. But there were times where I found the game fun. I went into it somewhat blind, not smelling the mostly burning garbage i've stumbled into. It was fun beating the shit out of zombies for me,and I enjoyed a couple of the boss fights. The game was filled to the brim with potential, but ended up being a wreck. One thing that I will NEVER get is how they made a DLC of the Commander. Yes,that one mini boss. Which you kill, with ease,no quotes,no cutscene, literally just an NPC with a bigger health bar. God that was ridiculous! Who in their right mind would be so interested in the random NPC with extra health that you shred, like almost all other bosses? Of course, this isn't actually part of the main game but worth mentioning. But moving on..I agree that Gary is the greatest part of this game. Almost every frame he was in the game was great, and I actually paid attention because he was a character done right. It's a shame he couldn't appear in any other games,or that one something something arcade DLC. But I don't really have much else to say,the game is that dry. All in all,the game was just executed poorly. I would give it a 5 or 6 out of 10. Good fun for a while but it's flaws start to clearly seep through the cracks. Imo,had the potential to be an extremely great title.
Gary love is something I can get behind. Such a well voiced character. When he picks up the not-annie dead body, you can even hear him grunting as he squats. Just...that scene caught me by complete surprise by how ridiculously well-paced it was. As if some other director was behind it. Take that scene and the reveal about the neck tattoos with diego/nick at the museum, make something else with it, you may have something. I did see that the commander had a DLC or something, and I was very confused lmao so wait, was the order of events Dead Rising 3...THEN the commander DLC? How utterly bonkers. Truly an afterthought. Thanks for the thoughtful comment, friend.
yeah, even I have to admit, the game is a bit of a dumpster fire. and my entire channel is dedicated to DR3 lmao. that being said, i still can't help but love. i am working on a mod that'll make DR3 feel a lot more "alive", if that makes you feel any better. also, i do have a few problems with this. 1. I dont know where you got that your progress will be erased from. I've had the "level 1, chapter 0" thing happen to me numerous times. It's just a technical bug on the main menu, it means nothing. 2. Almost every survivor has dialogue for when your posse is full. It's just that for some reason, Eric, Julia, Kenny and Regina don't. 3. There are technically 13 psychopaths, not 7. 4. Nick is confusing Jherii for a man because Jamie said she was a man in his call. Also, Nick approaches Jherii from the OPPOSITE SIDE of the entrance, I think there's bigger problems than Nick being a dunce. 5. There's boxing gloves and motor oil that can make the Flaming Gloves in Kenny's boss area. 6. The plane crash relates to a cutscene that happens if you wait on the title, which the cutscene itself is... kind of stupid in all fairness. 7. A lot of the critiques on weird things in Dead Risings government can be chalked up to a social commentary on US Government, which is kind of what Hemlock is. 8. The reason Diego went nuts is revealed in the scene directly after the boss battle. 9. Rhonda asked if Diego was stable, not okay. More of a nitpick of wording, but still. 10. The other illegals are found via the Side Missions "The Hunted". 11. I don't know why it would matter that Annie was an infant when the Willamette Outbreak happened. Like if you met a person who did awful things when you were an infant you'd probably be pissed at them too. 12. You think Red's page is bad now? There used to be a trivia that said that his name was Red likely because of the color of his shoes.
I saw a few people talking about it online, but maybe I should have went through with it to double check. If I'm incorrect on it, that's my mistake for not being thorough.
I tried it just now and couldn't get the level 1 bug to happen, so I couldn't confirm if it does reset your progress or not. Here was the faq/thread I saw the issue from. Maybe it was an Xbox One issue only, but it seemed like the exact same thing, so I figured it would have the same result. gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/718577-dead-rising-3/68182608
@@Dorkaxe maybe some people had it happen, but I don't. i only sometimes have it happen when debug jumping to missions. btw, i updated the comment with some gripes i have with the video (im half way through it rn, just started the story section)
The survivors having dialogue aside from the few I tested doesnt change the crux of the issue. It should have never been a stat based skill as this isn't a skill check type RPG with dialogue options. I know there are more than 7 psychopaths, I talk about the others in the story section. I realize Jamie said it was a man, but that still doesnt explain his use of the word mister a second time. Jamie's words shouldn't shape Nick's reality to the point where he ignores the obvious woman who said she was a woman right in front of him. Idk just seems lame to me. There were boxing gloves and motor oil, yes, but when I tried grabbing the gloves they flew out of the map somewhere. I would also argue that if there's only ONE combo set in the area, that doesn't make it any better.
And the downfall began with DR2 Case West. There was no reason to change the canon ending. My head canon, Chuck married Stacey, happily ever ever after.
@@chrisr9764 the majority? DR 3 has a 78 on Metacritic, for example DR 2 has 79 on Metacritic On steam they both have mostly positive reviews as far as i remember, so, what majority are you talking about?
Agreed. 4 is not fun after the first playthrough tbh and maybe you can have some fun still in a second playthrough. All this while of course accepting that this isn't Frank West and that this isn't even Dead Rising at all, hahaha. I can still revisit 3 as bad as it is. I prefer to play the earlier ones though tbh. DR1 will always be my most played.
game wouldve been alot better had they just kept true to their series, and then proceeded to do the opposite of dr3 and go full unserious and the entire studio being disbanded. also if the plane crash had been the first 72 hours and it hit people in cars would make more sense for the everyone dying scene.
I must note this. For all of your nitpicking, I am a little disappointed that you didn't criticize the museum bit with having conceptual artwork of the characters on display. I thought it was stupid and lazy that the artwork was used as cardboard cutouts and also on the articles for the past outbreaks.
I disagree. I felt like Dead Rising at the time was in need of something new and fresh, and I really thought the third one was pretty damn fun. Sure I do have my reservations, but only small ones like the navigation. I Respect your opinion though, nice video
I notice that the ending to this game is kind've a worse version of Metal Gear Rising's ending in that you fight a big shirtless dude after ruining his plan and wrecking his massive vehicle. I mainly just point this out as a segway into bringing up they were released the same year, DR3 in November and MGR in February. lol
Also in regards to the propeller I doubt CV did any research as the credentials of the plane that crashes at the beginning is completely wrong for how american airlines are classified. lol
I first played this game when I was 13 and it wasn't great but we beat it. Watching this review I'm reminded that experiencing a game as a child and an adult are VERRYY different
Amazing Critique, IMO the biggest problem i have with dead rising 3 is how they completely shit on isabelas character and her core identity which is to help ppl. In the first game isabela and carlito started the willemette outbreak as revenge for the US government's involvement and coverup of the santa cabeza incident and its not until her meeting frank and seeing what her and her brother's actions have caused that she has a change of heart and actually helps frank with her medical expertise to assist others and share knowledge of the zombies and where they come from, stop her brothers plans of infecting the entire country, surpresses franks infection, which led to the eventual zombrex, made a zombie repellent that helped both frank and her get out of the mall alive, her assisting frank against brock. In the comics it picks off right where the first game ended off of and shows her being arrested and taken by DHS agents in front of frank. Years later, in case west it's revealed that isabela was franks source and that she was the one assisting him throughout the whole game, she also gave frank a flash drive that contained vital evidence of her research and possible evidence against phenotrans but it was destroyed. Throughout the whole interaction with frank in case west, it's clearly shown that isabela still cares and misses frank and doesn't have any ulterior motives or grudges towards frank for anything which makes her character in dead rising 3 feel so sudden, out of place and inconsistent with the isabela we knew for so long and speaking about dead rising 3... In dead rising 3 it was revealed that she and marion were the ones to cause and start the los perdidos outbreak in hopes of finding the cure(nick) and it's also shown of her destroying the evidence of the conversation of her and marion as well. Interestingly when Isabela is talking to marion about frank and chuck she genuinely seems very distrusting of them and even goes as far as to say that frank left her to die once?... I dont recall this ever being shown so idk if it's true, also, Idk if shes referring to her getting taken by DHS agents in front of frank as her being left to die or something else because they don't really clarify on why the sudden dislike towards frank and chuck. I can kinda see why capcom would turn isabela into a villian because if u think about it, she lost the only other family she had left, she was taken against her will and was basically forced to be phenotrans guinea pig for many many years, she was the only other main character to not be considered a hero in the public's eye because she was regarded as a terrorist and a horrible person, also the keyes family name was defamed. On one hand, one can argue that what happened to her is justified considering she and her brother did actually start the willemette outbreak and got thousands of ppl killed, but on the other hand she and carlito were just trying to find their own way of getting justice for all the people that died in santa cabeza and the fact that the US government was behind it all only further drove the grudge that isabela and carlito had for america to the extreme and in that case u start to understand more and more of where Isabela and carlito are coming from and that in the end isabela and carlito(as cruel and calculated as carlito was in the first game), they're both victims. Overall I think Isabela shouldn't have been in dead rising 3, instead they should make a whole dead rising game just focused on her and what she went through after the events of dead rising 1, it's honestly tragic how Isabela's story turned out as she hasn't been able to tell anyone the truth about what actually happened to her and santa cabeza because it's been explained that a few weeks after the willemette incident, frank tried to expose the pentagon and the US government for their involvement and coverup with the willemette outbreak and santa cabeza outbreak, but they apparently "buried" him and claimed he lacked sufficient evidence, which means that the government's repression of the truth was successful and thus no one besides, frank knows the actual truth about what happened in those outbreaks. I hope one day capcom will give Isabela the proper character development she deserves and make her the one to tell the world about what actually happened as I think that this would be the only way to redeem her character to the public's eye because as much as frank was considered a hero to willemette so was she.❤️
Your video quality is Insane for the size of your channel this is my personal favorite game in the series I know it has a lot of flaws and isn't really that good of a game compared to the other one I haven't played this game since 2017 but I remember it being way better then your describing but I remember being really annoyed with the road blocks they talk about how driving is the focus but yet its a hassle most of the time and. Looking back on it the story doesn't make much sense anyways great video keep it up 👍
Co op making a game better is a moot point for bad games. Going to prison but your best friend is your cell mate is better and more fun than going to prison alone, that doesn't mean prison doesn't suck in both cases
remember when open sandbox games let you kill anyone at anytime? I'll always remember killing Caius Cosades in Morrowind after he caught me stealing his crackpipe and getting that message at the bottom of the screen, but being able to continue playing as much as i wanted, continuing to shape the world, and then we get crap like this.
Yeah and I loved how Obsidian did it incredibly well in Fallout:New Vegas with the faction reputation system. It went further than just moving forward when killing someone as there were now consequences for your actions. If you help NCR and kill Legion members, then you will be hated by them, they will send hit squads after you, they will become hostile to you when they see you. It was actually ingenious because too many Rpg worlds had dementia with "I know that yesterday you killed a bunch of people, but you're forgiven and seem like a good guy now".
I'm playing it and I can't agree I like schizophrenic tone, Nick, Psychopaths, Jerhii voice actress really has such deep voice, she looks like actual She Hulk IRL. It's far from perfect, many of your points are tru but it's my favourite goofy take on Americana I seen.
While I love this game I actually agree with a lot of his opinions, but they just don’t bother me as much as him. Lots of fun, hella stuff to do, way too many collectibles in the dlc, but overall fun. Just recently finished it for the first time and DR4.

Yes you absolute went unreasonably hard on this. This is your worse take yet.
@@shushupyounaughtyminx4832 when I do my eventual DR4 full playthrough on stream ill have to decide then, but I'd say, just going off of the lack of color, horrible open world/driving, and sluggish movement system, yeah I'd prefer playing DR4.
@@MrWiggles00706 It's a terrible game. I think this review reflects that aptly.
Scroomper-Doo?
It was fun on launch but I never replayed it like dr2 or dr1 and after watching this vid i prob never will
Just finished the game, i agree with your points but here's my personal opinions:
- What i hate
1. Main Questline is a complete chore
2. Stupid barricades
3. Errand boy thing is real
4. Side quests are "meh"
What i like:
1. Crafting is fun
2. Grinding zombies with crafted weapon is fun and rewarding
3. I like the world detail but hated the map
4. Story was boring at first and mid game but it gets better as the game progress (though the ending is a bit surprising who the real villain is)
Fr driving on this game was like walking through a maze
The trucker guy is the 2nd player in co-op so thats why he randomly appears and disappears and seemingly does nothing.
That's fucking incredible lmao I guess that explains that.
But as he said, if you remove him from the story, literally nothing would've changed

It's there I guess just as a "We thought some players would ask why he doesn't just do this, so we put it in to make them feel like shit for trying it and to punish those players."
But if anything it sorta muddles the story's representation of Nick more. lmao
I could agree with you about the tragic endings, and this is me simply pointing out what is likely an oversight, but the DLC characters also react to the tragic endings the same way, which is baffling lmao

@@BrokenGodEnt I think Days Gone handled it well in the intro
The amount of people on a plane actually does matter a lot. I saw a video about a celebrity who died because they didn't want to wait for another plane to arrive to get the rest of the filming crew for a music video so they boarded 3 or 4 extra people on a plane, and it ended up crashing due to all of that extra weight.
Weight does matter, why do you think planes only let you bring a certain weight when it comes to luggage?

Just played the game and I think the game is cool and arcadey. The map feels fun to explore the rooftops and finding ways to get on top are fun. Its good to learn what directions you can draw through and not. Having Chuck at the end is a awesome twist and def makes the games feel more connected. Not everyone. I honestly feel like it’s gotten more love after recent years. It’s a blast in coop

@@F_Yale no, because the things im disagreeing with arent "objective observations", especially considering it does not at all come across as "objective"
@@throwingoutrox Right, then out of curiousity, what do you disagree with, since he's pretty much lining up readily observable things about the game?

They should've kept Dead Rising's comedic tone. It was a fundamental problem to make DR3 so serious in tone.
Part of the worst part of the Gary twist is that he has an alternative identity already as a pro wrestler
You do know you have to Play the DLC untold stories to see Angels Story right?
It would be a quick way to go, but it would be painful beyond belief for those first few moments not to mention the terror of realizing what is happening and trying to escape the pull.
hmm odd on my playthroughs none of the glitches or crashes ever happened.
only happens on the PC port for some reason, happened to me after I sunk a few hours into the game.
I was wondering what was going on with the combo categories not showing a single blueprint I collected. Crazy how badly PC ports get it sometimes.

@Deadsea_1993 gotta disagree. Hypothetically a mall would be an awful location as a base. Glass is cheap, powering would be a nightmare, lot of other people would likely look at it as a bastion so an Outbreak could infiltrate

ya know if there's one thing i hate about maps in games in when they're sectioned off with the only way to get between each section being a narrow, cramped, and densely populated bridge that you only access through one road.
eh, at least it's still better than DR 4 lmao
Worse than Dead Rising 1 and 2, sure, but terrible? No way. It's a fun time. Dead Rising 4 is the only terrible game in the series.

Your character isnt actually supposed to acknowledge kenny if you didnt do the mission.
There is religious subtext in the first game. You fight a cult leader. So it's not as egregious that the bosses are based off the 7 deadly sins.

Every time Dylan is on screen you can't stop laughing
also, if you playing the DR4, i fear for you
Personally, Dead Rising 3 is fun but the gameplay was too big for its britches making you just get weapons off the bat in the lockers with little work.
@@AllyJ1141I agree it’s hated on too much but saying 3 is better than 1 overall is crazy and 3s my personal favorite cuz of the gameplay.

Wow came out so fast. Thanks again for another content filled video. I just actually got this game for my birthday 2 weeks ago. Despite the colors and urban vibe I loved it.
They've ruined a lot of games from my childhood.
The only ones that are still good are God of War, Zelda, Dark Souls etc.
Id play 3 over 4 any day
@@secondnexus Same tbh.
I had no idea that Daniel Roebuck was Greez in Jedi Fallen Order
I played this game when it first launched and just finished this well done review. Wow, I didn’t remember 99.9% of the story. Guess it’s that bad.
Adding another comment for the algorithm. This man deserves more subs.
The Commando Guy Mini actually has a backstory in the DLC
discovered your channel a few days ago - the amount of work put into these videos are fantastic. as someone who loves a good video essay and dead rising these are nothing less than a masterpiece !!
Played PC and never saw any of the issues you are talking about
Honestly, this game was too ambitious for it's own good.
@@Dorkaxe right back at ya! Really glad I found your channel, through an ad funny enough.
Oh snap, you are back with more game critique. Thank you for the hard work.
yeah, even I have to admit, the game is a bit of a dumpster fire. and my entire channel is dedicated to DR3 lmao. that being said, i still can't help but love. i am working on a mod that'll make DR3 feel a lot more "alive", if that makes you feel any better.
also, i do have a few problems with this.

I get your complaints but I just recently bought this game a week ago and on my 2nd playthrough. It's my favorite one honestly.
Ok good for you but the majority of us dislike it, but not as much as DR4.
@@chrisr9764 the majority? DR 3 has a 78 on Metacritic, for example DR 2 has 79 on Metacritic
On steam they both have mostly positive reviews as far as i remember, so, what majority are you talking about?

I would rather play this than 4, but I respect your opinion
It kinda makes sense why the saw would be on the opposite side of the hammer as it would be balanced as opposed to it being side heavy
yea
I must note this. For all of your nitpicking, I am a little disappointed that you didn't criticize the museum bit with having conceptual artwork of the characters on display. I thought it was stupid and lazy that the artwork was used as cardboard cutouts and also on the articles for the past outbreaks.
19:16 - Dead rising 2 also had quite and strong attacks.
so did 1, it just depended on the weapon. my main weapon for the DR1 early game is a baseball bat and that has a charged attack
I used your video to fall asleep 😴
Looking back on it the story doesn't make much sense anyways great video keep it up 👍
You poor soul I can’t believe you never got to play the multiplayer for this game it’s what make the experience the best
Alot of these points are subjective opinions , not much I care about honestly
I'm playing it and I can't agree I like schizophrenic tone, Nick, Psychopaths, Jerhii voice actress really has such deep voice, she looks like actual She Hulk IRL. It's far from perfect, many of your points are tru but it's my favourite goofy take on Americana I seen.
While I love this game I actually agree with a lot of his opinions, but they just don’t bother me as much as him. Lots of fun, hella stuff to do, way too many collectibles in the dlc, but overall fun. Just recently finished it for the first time and DR4.
