@@Rumble225-qe7fy It's like you're watching another sport really. Late 90s to about 2004 the game was slow paced, physical and incredibly defensive minded. Not to mention the games seemed more intense, mainly in the playoffs. You can understand why the game changed so much, I doubt the league wanted a team like the 2004 Pistons to be the face of the Nba. They did whatever they could to remove the physicallity and make the game as offense-minded as possible and it worked.
NBA today is as g@y af... travelling allowed, chucking three like no tomorrow, stare downs are techs. Woke referees, mediocre NBA all stars and just playing for money not for glory. That was a Great Portland team. They were in the WCF vs Lakers in the late 80’s, Finals vs Detroit in ‘90. The most athletic team in that era. They came the closest to taking Chicago to a game 7 in the Finals, double digit lead in the 4th qtr game 6

This remains MJ's most overlooked gem. 46 points on the road in a 2-2 series...just basically grabbed Portland by the throat and squeezed. They never had a chance. LeBron did this ONCE against Boston and they treat it like a breathless masterpiece. MJ did it so much, people FORGET this game.

Actualy if you look at statistics, it seam that Chicago was lucky to win this finals. Jordan was hiting 43% of 3 pointers (what is unusual for him) and whole Portland team was hiting just 20% despite having better snipers like Porter (carier average 38%) Danny Ainge (carrier average 37%) Drexler (32%). It seams that Portland should have won this, if not the unlucky shooting.

While Drexler’s rebounds and assists per game were higher than Jordan’s, his scoring efficiency went way down. Drexler’s regular season 47/34/80 dipped to 40/15/90 in the Finals. Jordan shot 53/43/89 in the Finals, which is pretty insane.
Clyde was carrying in Blazers. Houston with healthy Hakeem and him was unstoppable and probably a better team than Bulls with Rodman.

The only other call might be when buddy was trying to front Jordan on the post up, except Jordan got called for hooking trying to post him up on another play. Looked like the game was called pretty well to me. Even Clyde got some love from the refs, don't know what your watching that was favoring Jordan on foul calls.

At 12:54, game respecting game. Two warriors, two men at the prime of their careers, trying to kill each other but still showed respect for each other. love it. Drexler gave the GOAT a tough matchup this game and had a stellar gave himself, but he was overwhelmed ultimately. For game 5, the Bulls as a team probably played their best game in the entire series. Pippin also had an excellent game, including a thunderous dunk over Drexler in the first half that is one of the best dunks of his career.
The level of respect was undeniable amongst GROWN men in the NBA
Those were great rivalries and respect among fierce competitors. Very different from today, in my opinion.

@@benyah3390 Portland didn't shoot very well this game, but then again, the Bulls defense throughout their championship runs often did that to elite teams. Still, Drexler had five teammates in double-figures, so I would not say he did not have any help. Pippen have a very solid and good game, but Jordan was the difference-maker here. Without his dominant and efficient scoring, there's no guarantee the Bulls win this game.

This is one of the most under appreciated finals performance of MJ’s career. He’s had so many so I understand. But still this was a masterpiece. And should they have lost this game Portland or pile have had control of the series. This series was tougher than ppl like to lead the youngins to believe.

This series really brought out the best in the best shooting guards in the NBA @ the time...Jordan & Drexler. The Blazers almost pulled through in game 6, but that big 4th quarter by Chicago's Bench sealed it for them for the repeat championship.
As a Blazer fan back then, that comeback 4th quarter by the Bulls took forever to get over!
It was interesting that the first 11 possessions that the blazers had in the 4th quarter the refs made every call against them. Some really bad ones, even the commentators talked about it. That is what allowed the bulls to come back from a 15 point deficit. If the roles had been switched with the blazers coming back and winning over the bulls in this fashion, bulls fans would have been screaming from the rooftops that the fix was in. This is why I firmly believe that the game was fixed for the bulls to win.
The Glide was such an underrated player. Definitely one of the best during the 90s era.

That Portland team was damn good! The Bulls did not play against any chumps in those championship runs. Especially in the eastern conference finals, nor the nba finals.
I watched two games in the Memorial Coliseum, where the Blazers had great home court advantage with an amazing 814 game consecutive sell-out streak, I believe up to 12,666 seat capacity. That made it much more impressive that the Bulls won there. Now the Blazers play in the Rose Garden, much roomier and fewer sellouts.

If the refs would have let him play they would have won and he would have had as many points as Jordan while playing better team ball. He had 3 fouls in the 1st qtr for crying out loud.

So obviously was better once got back into swing of things and obviously he was better in 80s and early 90s. Clyde in 92 season avg 20 points a game and in finals stepped his game up and avg 25 points. In the 92 season MJ avg 32.6 pts and in 92 finals avg 35.8 pts. MJ was just a better player and better scorer

Even tho MJ was 6-0 in the finals, 4 out of those 6 finals were actually VERY competitive (exception being the 91 and 96 finals even tho Seattle managed to win 2 games after going down 3-0). Everyone talks about how much Mike outplayed Clyde, and obviously he did, but Drexler to his credit still averaged almost 25, almost 8 rebounds and 5 assist in the series.
Go back and watch the Lakers Finals. Magic almost had a 2-0 lead heading back to LA. The Seattle Finals was also competitive.
I'll admit Jordan was better, but it's a heckuva lot easier to outplay your opponent when your 2nd & 3rd best players are Scottie Pippen and Horace Grant and his is Terry Porter and, I guess Cliff Robinson. Clyde's 2nd best player was as good as Jordan's 3rd.

@@dbanks128 Buck Williams made all the difference in Portland. Once he arrived, in 1989/90 season Portland won 63 games in the regular season (best record in the league) and went to the first NBA Finals, since 1977. Buck was also All-Defensive first team in 1989-90 NBA season.

I guess I didn't see a lot of blazers games besides the ones against the bulls. A few nationally televised games against the Lakers and such, but drexler, porter, and kersey usually had more highlights.

There was a heavy price to pay for Victory. MJ have to will his way to 46 points and playing the entire second half with an injured ankle and survived being in deep foul trouble after committing his 5th foul midway in the 4th quarter. In fact both teams had key players in foul trouble and the game ended with 3 players being disqualified with their 6th fouls which Horace Grant and Cliff Robinson joined Drexler to their benches after being fouled out.
Just ocurred to me, had Portland drafted MJ with the 2nd pick, Clyde would have essentially been the Pippen of the team. Kind of like Superman and Batman pairing with MJ and Clyde. Plus, Portland had a very good team as well in the 80's and early 90's with Buck, Kersey, Cliff Rob, Porter, and Duckworth. I think MJ would have had immense if not more success in Portland.
I disagree, it could have had a different effect if portland had drafted MJ.. drexler was already the franchise player in portland.. so drexler won't play second fiddle to a young upstart rookie like MJ.. I think it was more of a blessing that he went to chicago where he showed what he can do as a player and had good coaches like doug, who helped michael reach his full potential as an individual player and phil, who showed MJ how to thrust his team and then eventually showed him how to win it all..

THe smothering defense Jordan faced @4:52 with three guys spying on him. That's what Jordan faced not "one-on-one." You sometimes don't see that type of defense on highlights because the defensive traps forced Jordan to pass or make a turnover which doesn't show up on highlights. Also Jordan turns away from a double that he feels coming you often won't even see the double forming in a highlight video.

Watching that series again. Drexler was great . The problem was at center and point guard . Porter and Duckworth didn’t do much when they were definitely better. Houston should have traded Sampson for drexler early

The people who say MJ didn't have any competition at SG in his era, Drexler was the real deal. Terry Porter was the 2nd best player on those Portland teams(he did have a few great underrated seasons 89-92) and Clyde got his Trailblazers squad to 2 NBA Finals. Even when he left Portland he was still a very good player for Houston. If history went different and Hakeem somehow was drafted by Portland over Bowie, Drexler wins multiple titles in Portland and is looked at in a totally different light.

Clyde the Glyde was probably the best Trailblazer of all time.
Gotta love the intensity of the game...you can tell this is the playoffs with these teams going at it in the last round. Also, it just seems like players had to really work to get their points because most attempts were in the paint or close to it where the bodies are. Just look at the sequence starting at 10:30.

I get it when people say that about the 60's with Wilt Chamberlain, as there is a lot of truth to it, but it's BS with Jordan. There was A TON of competition in his career in the 80's and 90's.

He had so much more help through the series that MJ managed to have 46 free throw attempts, while Clyde had 56. lol
Funny watching Ainge bait Jordan into a foul later. He always had a weird thing with Jordan even back in Celtics times - Jordan was way better obviously but there were times when Ainge would make a point of targeting him offensively and defensively which seemed to bother MJ.
