Shaq's kryptonite was always players w/agility, his "unstoppable dominance" that has been pushed all these years was actually against slower footed players.
This 95-96 Bulls team would have swept 2016 warriors with ease. To be honest I think this magic team would beat the warriors also. But how about rodman? This man guarded shaq better then anyone I've ever seen. Shaq could not move Rodman literally. And he out rebounded the entire magic team by himself laughs. 95-96 Bulls are the greatest basketball team ever.

Curry is the greatest shooter of all time.
JddSaun And Curry couldn't do it alone a.k.a 5 screen possession offense. You really think the Warriors wouldn't get swept by the 96 Bulls with ease? Rodman would've made Draymond Green cry like a lil bitch and i'd say Draymond was the Dubs most productive player the entire post-season
WARRIORS THREE POINT PROWESS SHOULDN'T BE UNDERRATED. HOW DO YOU GUARD A KID LIKE CURRY...HE WOULD HAVE UNLEASHED HIS TRADEMARK THREE POINT BARRAGE..HE AND THOMSON WOULD SURELY BE GAME TO THE 95-96 BULLS
Dennis almost outrebounding the whole Magic team while guarding Shaq. Insane. This is why people say the 80s and 90s were when men played basketball, today are just a bunch of boys and spoiled brats.
Well its just the different eras of basketball. To me, i see this era dominating the teams in 80s or 90s .You will probably say that i suck at basketball and throw yr shitty insults at me.But i will still think that this era of nba would probably beat the 80s or 90s era
Dennis Rodman was a complete basketball player. Not only was his motor was always revved up to redline, but at 4:14 after another defense stop against Shaq, he put in that little extra effort to pick the defense and help create an easier shot. Coaches just loved him and it's easy to understand.
This is why I tell people that Rodman could guard Draymond Green EASILY because the way he guarded and messed up Shaq mentally and Physically was truly remarkable. You can just tell by Shaqs body language he was uncomfortable when Rodman was guarding him unlike when he was guarded by Chicagos other big men which Shaq showed comfort. Rodman was special.
This is the only person I’ve ever seen lock up Shaq when he played for Orlando or the Lakers. MJ is the undisputed goat but people don’t realize how good this bulls team was. They were a powerhouse defensively
+Kakka CarrotCake meh.. to say that is a slippery slope, especially when referring to rodman, he had the 7 inch growth spurt while working as an airport janitor or whatever, that got him noticed by small. collegiate team, where he honed his skills or however you would like to put it. rodman had a motor that didn't quit, and he also adapted to his role as a defensive specialist and agitator against the other teams best player.. but to say size doesn't matter is a little silly.
+Kakka CarrotCake If Shaq didn't have his physical size and prowess, he wouldn't been able to push guys back and dunk right on there face. Size very much matters.
Best defensive team I've ever seen by far. Funnily enough, at 3:40 Ron Harper makes the exact same defensive play on Shaq that MJ made on Malone at the end of game 6 in 98. The entire process from waiting until they look away thinking no double is coming, to reversing course and sneaking in, to the tomohawk swipe to rip the ball free. It's seemingly identical in every way!
Rodman wasn't guarding Shaq for long stretches like actual Cs would so it's kind've a smaller sample size. The Cs that did neutralize him though would make him work harder than usual on defense (95 finals).
when i see this 90's nba videos i realize how incredible shaq was!!! btw no one could really locks down shaq...but rodman is the one who come closer!!! maybe the best defender i'v ever seen strong like a bull, dirty and crazy!
Rodman is not a center and never have body/weight/height of a center, but he guard the best center in the world and made them frustrated and intimidated, basically disable/dismantle opponent best offensive player. It's very hard to guard O'Neal, that big boy is huge, tall and fast at the same time, but Rodman made all those attributes disappeared. Impressive performance.
My man Rodman his Defensive Prowess and ability to defund all 5 Positions that's a older Rodman at that Excellent defense on Shaq who's post play is amazing and arguably one of the best that goes to show you what kind of person and player he is like he said "HARD WORK BABY HARD WORK HARD WORK" 5 Time World Champion he earned his No Doubt
4:15 shows how much faith the bulls had in Rodman. Isolated on the baseline with shaq being around 100 pounds lighter, nobody in NBA history can say their team LET them do this (and have it work!) Rodman the most unique player in NBA history, one of the greatest ever but still under appreciated today.
LilPrince Killa Funny you mention Lebron, I feel Rodman's physique was very similar to his but even Lebron as strong as he is, I doubt he could bang with dudes like Shaq on the inside even if he tried.
LilPrince Killa Of those you mentioned, I believe Jordan and Pippen were the best pure athletes, but Lebron probably has more athletic ability than anyone who's ever been his size or larger. Jordan was just as athletic if not more than Lebron however, people compare Kobe to Jordan most often but really Jordan was actually much more impressive physically than Kobe ever was. They just had a similar approach to the game and Kobe was a little better at shooting.
LilPrince Killa Kobe wasn't as gifted athletically as Jordan, Jordan had a vertical leap of 48 inches while Kobe's was only 38. Kobe was a great athlete but he was more skill and will than anything, not a freak of nature like Lebron, or Jodan. I think you're underrating Lebron as an athlete as well, he's just as big actually heavier now than KG ever was and he's far more acrobatic and explosive. Take Lebron's speed and explosiveness and apply it to any position, even a point guard with that level athleticism would be impressive much less a 6'8" guy that's 260 plus.
LilPrince Killa I realize that that's only one area of athleticism and not the entire thing, but physically Kobe had no advantages over Jordan. He wasn't, faster, stronger or more explosive. And skill wise he was a better long range shooter but that's it.
This is just gold. Rodman has concrete in his guts. And when I look closely, although leaning and taking punishment, his defense is CLEAN. He had the will to take the bumps. A testament to focus.
studydoc no it doesn’t. Only thing Shaq could do was play 3 ft from the rim. Only thing Rodman did was not allow Shaq to move him off his spot. Took him away completely lmao . Bron has a much more versatile game and plays off of picks. Rodman could of gave a young Bron problems, but not the Bron that was in MIA and past that.
Afro Reviewer in that era dumbass . Today’s players are a lot more skilled, better shooters, ball handlers, and play way too much pick n rolls. Rodman wouldn’t have a chance against lebron.
5:07 Rodman gave these Bulls another dynasty run with his intensity and rebounding. The Bulls just out hustled on the boards and that was led by the Menace himself. Rodman played basketball like a hockey player just desperately trying to repossess the ball at every turn.
Penny dropped 38 this game and they still lost. Shaq was swept 5 times in the 90s. Outclassed by every elite big he faced. Swept by Hakeem, malone, and a 2nd year duncan. Yet stupid people will say he carried kobe. Lakers couldn't get through that western conference until kobe took over
ClutchSkeet Shaq didn’t carry Kobe but Shaq was definitely the best player on the Lakers from 2000 - 2002 and the main reason they won those titles. Kobe was very important too, but Kobe is also a big reason they lost the 2004 finals, so he wasn’t all helpful. And the 1995 loss wasn’t Shaq’s fault he put up amazing numbers it’s just the Rockets got hot and took advantage of the Magic’s relative playoff inexperience (outside of Horace Grant who didn’t play that well nonetheless). 1998 and 1999 are not fair cause Shaq was dealing with weight and injury problems, and also he didn’t even play that bad considering.
@@jsn23nc Check the stats throughout all those 3 postseason runs. Kobe was never carried, and by that retarded-ass logic, then every player who won Finals MVP carried their teams, which is asinine.
he did carry Kobe, the PER difference alone is huge, much less the actual points, which is also huge. Shaq AND Kobe TOGETHER could not get past the jazz for 3 years, until Phil Jackson came and cut the scrubs, got more defensive players (like Fish and Fox), and instituted the triangle offense, which let Kobe get wide open all the time because Shaq would draw the double.
@@andrewmunlin5263 no he didn’t what are you even making up? And they doubled Shaq the whole damn time. He destroyed Dennis. This series they’re literally missing Grant and Anderson who were the floor spacers.
@@Cream-2128 He didn't "destroy" Rodman what are you talking about? The Bulls went on runs in the 3rd quarter of this game, G2, and G4 when he was guarded by Rodman. Also the Bulls didn't excessively double team doing that would've given the Magic more open shot opportunities, they mixed it up to throw Shaq off on some of those plays Shaq was looking the other way so he didn't see it coming.
From watching this video Rodman always had help. Some one always threw a hand in there. It was a good game plan not just one on one dominance. Also his technique was on point. Arm positioning, hip placement, spacing, and foot placement were perfect. He made sure he stayed under Shaq without being too low so he could impair him from taking a clean jump but still contest a shot if he did get to jump.
Rodman is the definition of a guy that is all heart and never complains even the fact he's sick and this guy could guard all 5 positions. I would love if NBA went back to this kind of era where physicality is the heart of the game unlike today's soft ass crybabies and even a drama queen(well not mentioning any names but we all know who this is).
Everyone in the interviews is always saying how INSANELY STRONG Rodman was for his build. I mean, he LOCKED UP the MOST UNSTOPPABLE force the NBA has ever seen.
This my friends is why dennis is a hall of famer..people look at points, percentages...streaks... but sheer ill just do anything to win and dive and punch and take beatings..dennis is the all time best in that category..which is why hes a unanimous hall of famer
Despite being an oddball. Rodman was my favorite player. I tried playing just like him in high school in the 90s. They would put me with players 6 inches taller than me.
Dennis' thing is truly extraordinary on an athletic level taking into account the weight difference between him and Shaq. You have to remember that this team was a defending machine. They had the best defensive average of the decade, that is no small feat. Harper was an outstanding defensive player throughout his career.
I cannot believe how much Shaq got away with in terms of pushing and slamming his shoulder into the defender on every play. Why didn't they call these as offensive fouls. This is the NBA not the NFL. A defender has a right to his position and if a player in offense buries his shoulder or uses his but as a battering ram an offensive foul should be called.
Credit to ***** for the original video - ua-cam.com/video/wg3BiOw4TWo/v-deo.html I already included this game in the Rodman vs Shaq documentary, and LamarMatic already did a great job highlighting Rodman's defense in this game, but I wanted to make a separate video that focused purely on Rodman's defense on Shaq during Game 1 of the 1996 ECF.

I want to do videos of Wizards Jordan shutting down Vince Carter and Latrell Sprewell, but I have to order those games and the guy who was supposed to get them to me never responded so I might just wait around for a while until someone uploads a good game or series I want to do - Duncan/Robinson 2003 Finals - Ron Artest + Ben Wallace 2004 ECF - Duncan, Ben + Rasheed Wallace in 2005 Finals - Wade 2006 Finals - Bowen 2007 Finals vs LeBron - Garnett 2008 Finals - Billups 2009 vs Chris Paul and more but none of that footage is available for now

Also just a suggestion but you could do Tayshaun prince(Pistons) defense on Kobe in 04. Bowen has always did a solid job on Kobe but If you look at the numbers nobody did a better job consistently on Kobe then Tayshuan Prince. 24.2 ppg on 43% 3.2 TO vs TP for his career.

Start at 01:45 - Rodman is a "Great Wall" Shaq cannot get around, over, or through. Check out 04:07, where Rodman battles Shaq for position and shakes him out of 2 easy points. At 05:22 it's Rodman's presence alone that takes an easy 2-points away from Shaq. Rodman finishes with 21 rebounds WHILE shutting down Shaquille O'Neal, the most dominant big man of his time.
You guys see how Shaq can't box out Rodman in the post? That's insane strength lol At 3:10, Shaq tries to push Rodman, but has to actually go AROUND Rodman ! lol
Lol. Well, they were a lot better than Cleveland this year and look what happened in the Finals. At least Chicago WON the title when they broke the record for most wins in a regular season.
rodman agains james..that will be a disaster for the king..I bet that james did not score more than 15 points and 5 rebounds.it's lot of gross and best defense .
cjavier gutierrez i think they would have pippen guarding LeBron, rodman needs to be near the hoop denying the bigman and ready to kick out a rebound. pippen could put some heat on lebron though, i dont think hes gonna shut em down though, lebron would still get his against rod or pip, closest thing to lebron that rodman guarded was probably karl malone and most of his game was in the paint, like i dont see rodman out guarding lebron on the 3pt line.

+Charles Coine hope you're ready for shorter careers and players out for more of the season due to injuries
@@cMckone93 what? They are always injured now anyway 😂
If you count rebounds as 2points, then Rodman would be averaging 40points per game.
crewcutter2030 a fantasy basketball beast
Wilt would average 102 points
NBA FG% for teams runs about 43%-49% so I'd say a rebound is closer to 1pt.

You're absolutely right. We were lacking at the 4 once Horace left
As young as I was, I remember thinking MJ, Pippen, and Rodman....good luck with that.
And lebron could not win his 3 titles without bosh wade kyrie and love
This 95-96 Bulls team would have swept 2016 warriors with ease. To be honest I think this magic team would beat the warriors also. But how about rodman? This man guarded shaq better then anyone I've ever seen. Shaq could not move Rodman literally. And he out rebounded the entire magic team by himself laughs. 95-96 Bulls are the greatest basketball team ever.
yeah
curry was wrongfully fouled out in game 6, he was hot that game....cavs got a bit lucky.....based on how warriors played during the regular season it seemed like they were unbeatable.....give them their props and not compare the eras of the nba....MJ is the greatest of all time and he couldn't do it alone, he had a great team.
HOW DO YOU GUARD A KID LIKE CURRY...HE WOULD HAVE UNLEASHED HIS TRADEMARK THREE POINT BARRAGE..HE AND THOMSON WOULD SURELY BE GAME TO THE 95-96 BULLS
leinard wangilisasi so many bullshit calls cost them the championship....as phill jackson would say, lbrons special treatment.
Dennis almost outrebounding the whole Magic team while guarding Shaq. Insane. This is why people say the 80s and 90s were when men played basketball, today are just a bunch of boys and spoiled brats.
Agree, it was NBA's best and glory time.

Well its just the different eras of basketball. To me, i see this era dominating the teams in 80s or 90s .You will probably say that i suck at basketball and throw yr shitty insults at me.But i will still think that this era of nba would probably beat the 80s or 90s era
zzz I’m almost confident you was born after the year 2000 huh 😒🤦🏽♂️........That would explain a lot....
Rodman was used to throwing around 500 lbs dudes like Paul Wight in WCW so guarding 303 lbs Shaq was a cakewalk for him.
Shaq was bigger than that in 96.
i always think, how did he do that?
shaq size was almost 3times bigger than him
one word INCREDIBLE Rodman
Dennis Rodman was a complete basketball player. Not only was his motor was always revved up to redline, but at 4:14 after another defense stop against Shaq, he put in that little extra effort to pick the defense and help create an easier shot.
Coaches just loved him and it's easy to understand.
It’s insane how well Rodman kept Shaq away from the basket. He must have had insane strength, the way he held his ground.
Like guarding draymond is an actual flex lol
I like how Rodman's body, while on defense, became 45 degrees against Shaq. He knew how heavy and powerful Shaq is.
Damn rodman was insanely strong
This is the only person I’ve ever seen lock up Shaq when he played for Orlando or the Lakers. MJ is the undisputed goat but people don’t realize how good this bulls team was. They were a powerhouse defensively
shaq had 5 inches and 70 pounds on him? smh
weight doesn't matter
skill does
+Kakka CarrotCake meh.. to say that is a slippery slope, especially when referring to rodman, he had the 7 inch growth spurt while working as an airport janitor or whatever, that got him noticed by small. collegiate team, where he honed his skills or however you would like to put it. rodman had a motor that didn't quit, and he also adapted to his role as a defensive specialist and agitator against the other teams best player.. but to say size doesn't matter is a little silly.
spoder men yeye
+Kakka CarrotCake If Shaq didn't have his physical size and prowess, he wouldn't been able to push guys back and dunk right on there face. Size very much matters.
Bill Mitchell true
Great Video. I only realize now that Rodman was FREAKISHLY STRONG. Very Decieving. This was a good Video on Dennis Rodman
How is it deceiving? That guy is ripped and pure muscle.
shaqs free throws good Lord
Doflamingo Sabo lmaooo!
Salute to you Rodman. I appreciate watching you play the game of basketball. A true competitor and great defender. Greatest rebounder of all time.
It's seemingly identical in every way!
yes I caught that too, for sure Tex Winter and Phil discussed that with them. Tex is under rated.
@@johnames6430 Tex was the schematic genius, Phil was the therapist.
What a beast...do we realize that rodman was the only man to guard shaq like this. He is in the hall of fame JUST for defense..let that sink in
Rodman wasn't guarding Shaq for long stretches like actual Cs would so it's kind've a smaller sample size.
“Come closer” 🤨 wym bro he locked him down 😂
Rodman is not a center and never have body/weight/height of a center, but he guard the best center in the world and made them frustrated and intimidated, basically disable/dismantle opponent best offensive player.
How was Rodman so powerful? P4P he was maybe the strongest guy in NBA history.
Dude lived in the gym watch his interviews
This defense is insane. He is still underrated. He can guard #1~5. no doubt.
This is just gold. Rodman has concrete in his guts. And when I look closely, although leaning and taking punishment, his defense is CLEAN. He had the will to take the bumps.
A testament to focus.
This proves Rodman would have easily shut down LeBron
studydoc no it doesn’t.
Robb James I agree . He was too clumsy
Robb James facts
@@benfordrobert45 bronsexuals dont know nothing about basketball you're opinion doesn't matter rodman will shutdown lebron period.
Damn.. 21 rebs
5:07 Rodman gave these Bulls another dynasty run with his intensity and rebounding. The Bulls just out hustled on the boards and that was led by the Menace himself. Rodman played basketball like a hockey player just desperately trying to repossess the ball at every turn.
The NBA in the 90s was a whole different beast
Rodman was simply a great athlete who played with great effort. A man in his time.
Once Rodman planted, he wasn't going anywhere that's damn impressive
Penny dropped 38 this game and they still lost. Shaq was swept 5 times in the 90s. Outclassed by every elite big he faced. Swept by Hakeem, malone, and a 2nd year duncan. Yet stupid people will say he carried kobe. Lakers couldn't get through that western conference until kobe took over
He did carry Kobe
Shaq won all 3 Finals MVP awards. I called that carrying your team including Kobe
1:38
Right there.
The night for Shaq (mentally) ended right there. Nobody (with a few exceptions) would do that to Shaq.
People didn't realize how strong Dennis Rodman truly was. I also seen Ben Wallace shut Shaq down as well. LOL
Both undersized bigs who were super strong
Neither one of them shut him wtf he killed both of them.
@@Cream-2128 what lol shaq had zero point game against Dennis Rodman
He didn't always have help Shaq was single covered on some of those plays.
I love watching these, I just wish it was HD.. after awhile it starts giving me a headache
Rodman is the definition of a guy that is all heart and never complains even the fact he's sick and this guy could guard all 5 positions. I would love if NBA went back to this kind of era where physicality is the heart of the game unlike today's soft ass crybabies and even a drama queen(well not mentioning any names but we all know who this is).
he can guard either any position...best defender and rebound king
Everyone in the interviews is always saying how INSANELY STRONG Rodman was for his build. I mean, he LOCKED UP the MOST UNSTOPPABLE force the NBA has ever seen.

@@dxburner222 nope not even close
Dennis' thing is truly extraordinary on an athletic level taking into account the weight difference between him and Shaq. You have to remember that this team was a defending machine. They had the best defensive average of the decade, that is no small feat. Harper was an outstanding defensive player throughout his career.
If LeGoat played in this game. He would have died immediately 😂 #Realtalk
I cannot believe how much Shaq got away with in terms of pushing and slamming his shoulder into the defender on every play. Why didn't they call these as offensive fouls. This is the NBA not the NFL. A defender has a right to his position and if a player in offense buries his shoulder or uses his but as a battering ram an offensive foul should be called.

cjavier gutierrez i think they would have pippen guarding LeBron, rodman needs to be near the hoop denying the bigman and ready to kick out a rebound. pippen could put some heat on lebron though, i dont think hes gonna shut em down though, lebron would still get his against rod or pip, closest thing to lebron that rodman guarded was probably karl malone and most of his game was in the paint, like i dont see rodman out guarding lebron on the 3pt line.
