Ben The Coin Geek
Old Pueblo Coin
A coin's original surface is recognized as, "The Skin".
This term was coined by Ben the Coin Geek. Circa 2024
Thanks Ben. Great commentary. Very educational for me.
That 1909-S IHC is a cool looking woody or improper alloy mixture and there is a collecting niche that are eagerly pursuing these coppers!
You made me do a doubletake on the Oregon half. ;)
That 1862 III cents 👍👍
The rim on the silver 3c screams proof. I think they missed the grade on that one.
I love the woodies👍
Seeing those Standing Liberty quarters and thinking back to the recent Jeff Garrett interview...wish the US Mint produced something as unique and beautiful and worthy of being collected today. I'd buy and squirrel away a few uncirculated rolls for any possible descendents of mine [even illegitimate 🤭
But...nooope. Rolls of 8.33% nickel, balance copper AWQ; or 6% Zinc, 3.5% Manganese, 2% Nickel, Balance Copper GHWB $1...who wants those? 🤮
I think they should give cleaning a grade like a 1-5 thoughts
Beautiful coins! Say la vie on the SLQ grading. Sorry.
Always enjoy these open boxes. Sorry about the S.L.Q.
Hey Ben
LUCKY THUMB UP #13 👍
Hey Ben! Are your customers going to try to get a CAC sticker on them?
Hi Ben. The mintmark on the Oregon Trail Commem is more likely at 6:53 than at 7. Of course, with digital clocks, most people can't tell time anyway. 🕖 *>>-->* 🦉
If you were afraid to do anything yourself on the Oregon Trail commem, why not have them conserve it professionally to remove the spots?
Hi Ben
14:52 I think the reason it didn’t Full Head is that you can barely see the ear hole 😢
Donald Donald Donald
HI DP.
So you think the oregon trail in the OGH with a "possible cac sticker" isn't as valuable as a freshly graded pcgs ms66?
Me
Ben I want to send you a photo of a wood grain coin how do I do this? Thanks
It's a 1909-s VDB PCGS 65 RB CAC Love your show
Wow, back up a second. At 5:21, Ben said something about environmental damage from being in an album. So you are saying that collectors will damage their coins by putting them in albums? Wow, just wow.
Yeah, if you keep them in the garage or basement or extreme humidity
Then there is the fact some of the old cardboard/paperboard that was used in the 'old' (?) albums was not as neutral a ph, or contained chemicals or broke down into chemicals that tended to react with the various metals, hence the term 'album toning'. It's all in the 'literature', as the saying goes.
