  • sometimes projects seem like a great idea, buy up a garage find and clean it to within an inch of its life.
    all of a sudden you have a mint 40 year old motorcycle that looks like it's just rolled out of the showroom.
    that's what they have you believe on all these restoration shows anyway. in reality your buying a wrecked bike that someone has abused and ruined only to find that a pressure wash isn't going to be enough, and some proper repairs are needed, these almost always will be expensive.
    non start on the daytona, I think mainly caused by fuel problems, let's find out and do some testing to find out.

    I've owned my 2006 and NEVER had one single issue with it until now...that's pretty damn lucky. My race bike same thing...Although Triumph did have a recall on an electrical issue way back when and they totally took care of it. I have to have the bike checked to as why it's now kicking over and that's with a new battery....I found this extremely helpful thank you!

    I’m in the middle fixing my 97 Daytona won’t start. I’ve taken tank off, changed plugs, cleaned injectors and fuel rail pit it all back together and still won’t start.
    Then it dawned on me, I didn’t hear the pump priming 🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️. So tomorrow I will take pump apart out of the tank and see if it’s repair able. After watching your video I think I might use a spare 12v battery and some leads and do it on the table.
    Nice video you’ve done, hope you got it fixed

      @wsmv  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Andrew, yes it was a fuel pump issue caused mone not to start, after replacing the pump I had no problems.
      Use a multi meter to check you have a 12v feed to the pump when pressing the starter button, if you have 12v but no fuel flow I expect it'll be a pump problem, if you don't have a 12v feed and a good earth you have some sort of power supply problem. Also check the clutch and side stand switch to make sure they aren't cutting the feed to the pump.
      Hope you sort it buddy 👍

      Thanks Paul, the bike market seems to be taking an early dip for the winter this year but the daytona rarely drops in price because they have such a good following and reputation.
      I don't have much experience in current prices as I'm an impulse buyer and rarely shop around 🤦‍♂️ (my Mrs hates it)
      I would always say hold on until the spring though when the prices start climbing again.
      Thanks for watching mate, when it's finished mine will look nothing like a daytona 🤣

    whats the resting Voltage of the Battery when its dissconded from the bike?
    dose the bike try to crank over if the kill switch is on?
    all the fuzes ok or any dammage ?
    How do the spark plugs look?

    • @wsmv
      @wsmv  Рік тому

      All good checks but still concentrating on the lack of fuel from the fuel pump even though I'm getting voltage to it.
      I've ordered a new pump so will recondition the pump/sender unit assembly this week. Once I've fixed that I'll work through the rest.
      It was running well before this so hoping the pump is the main issue 👍

    Stick it in a tank of fuel and see if it pumps anything out?
    Could be down the line more. That is blimming low voltage and shouldn't drop below 11 even on start up.
    Blocked injecter sending the rest awol.
    Plug fuse.
    I know nothing but just a guess, enjoyed that 👍goodluck

    • @wsmv

    • @wsmv

      Hi Chris, turned out the fuel pump had failed, did check the clutch switch but that stops it turning over rather than not firing.

      Thanks for commenting and giving me ideas though 😁👍

    What is the sound from 9:25 to 9:34 ??? After u disconnect the fuel pump inside connector!
    My ST675 does this too, when im switch the ignition ON, and when it does this, the starter motor does not "click" and not turn when the start button is pressed
    (my fuel pump is make pressure, its okey)

    • @wsmv
      @wsmv  4 місяці тому

      I think the noise is the exhaust valve trying to reset. Mine isn't working properly. Seems to be worse if the bike doesn't start or if the battery is low.
      Hope you have everything sorted my friend 👍

  • @markpowell7713
    @markpowell7713 Рік тому +2

    You may have fixed this by now but a few thoughts. Did you pull a plug and check for spark? I had an early Trophy 900 (1993) which for reasons best known to Triumph the ECU needed nearly 10v to do its thing. Hence unless the battery was completely charged it wouldn’t start as cranking pulled the voltage below 10v and the ECU just refused to play. If your battery is old, even though fully charged it will show 12v plus, as soon as you crank it the voltage drops considerably as shown in your video. Perhaps you just need a new battery? Also to test that fuel pump, just connect it direct to the battery with some spare wire and see if it spins. Good luck and I look forward to hearing your solution.

    • @wsmv
      @wsmv  Рік тому

      Thanks for the info, I will check that. I have changed the battery which really helped with the starting up until now, I'm still convinced it's a fuel pump issue and have a rebuild kit for this weekend so will do that first, but if its still playing up I will check the ignition system, thanks Mark 👍

      That fuel pump should shoot fuel out... something is clogged, shot ..totality of circumstances with Triumphs LOL.. Download the TuneECU parameters which will allow thi guy to diagnose engine codes, engine issue while running... etc..download maps if he chooses , change start-up fueling... it's a must have for simple diagnosing issues ..easy to set it up on Windows, Andriod etc...

      @wsmv  Рік тому

    • @wsmv
      @wsmv  Рік тому

      It appears to be a fuel pump issue, I checked all the power supplies and earths, all were OK, bit not getting any fuel pressure to the injection rail.
      I replaced the fuel pump and it sorted the problem.
      Also check the exhaust valve isn't stuck shut which will cause starting problems.
      Hope this helps 👍

    • @vinlondon4933
      @vinlondon4933 Рік тому +1

      Cheers, thank you very much for that. I have had problems with the exhaust valve in the past, but the bike was starting fine and just giving me an engine warning light. I checked the code, disassembled the exhaust valve, got it unstuck, cleaned etc. All sorted. Never had issues starting. Spark plugs checked today, all good. Fuel pump line disconnected from engine and it didn't get any spray. Too many other noises to tell whether it was working. So cross with myself for letting the bike sit for a year. Now headache!

    • @vinlondon4933
      @vinlondon4933 Рік тому +1

      Did you replace the whole unit (white plastics) or just the motor? I am worried about the wiring and whether the motor itself can be removed easily or whether I'd have to rewire the whole thing. I am just a biker wanting to ride, not claiming to be knowledgeable about repairs at all!!! Getting to the spark plugs today was the most I have done on a bike. A friend helped with tools and advice

    • @wsmv
      @wsmv  Рік тому

      @vinlondon4933 you can replace just the motor, I bought one on ebay and it didn't fit so in the end I bought a second hand one off ebay which did the job.
      It's not too difficult, but being safe Is the main thing. Ventilate the area you're working in, drain as much out of the tank as possible and get a new rubber seal for when you refit the sender unit (£5 from triumph dealer)
      There's only a couple of multiplugs inside the tank to disconnect once the tank is off so no wiring needed 👍

    Did you get this sorted?
    There is only a few issues that would stop the 675 engine from turning over.
    1- low battery as it needs over 12.65v to crank the engine.
    2- CPS this should reed .200ohms resistance to mean it’s perfectly working
    3- Clutch switch system/side stand switch.. Both of these can be bypassed on Gen 1 only due to the wiring loom not having a Quickshifter plug
    Fuel pumps rarely fail on the 675, it’s the t bag filter that usually causes issues at 4-5k rev dead zone surging.
    Get the bike plugged into tune ecu you will be able to test the pump and major systems from there as the fuel pump only primes at full power when the bike is running.
    If need any help feel free to message as I made a video on how to use Tune Ecu and I’ve rebuilt my Gen 1 2006 in multiple configs since owning it from 2008

      @wsmv  9 місяців тому

      Thanks Aaron, that's brilliant.
      The fuel pump replacement fixed the starting problem, still have some running issues but that's because the emmisions system was ripped out and not repaired properly when it slid down the road. I have the breather and pipes just waiting for tine to work on it, as usual I have big ideas and then realise I don't have the time to do it 🤣🤣

      @@wsmv you can just remove the cables, let the valve spring open and disable it via tune ecu, download the map heat cycle it and will be fine, if you have the o2 sensor still fitted it won’t effect fuel, afr will be more stable also if you have removed the intake flapper and SAI
