The hardest part about boot camp is keeping a straight face and not laughing at the chief when he goes nuts. They do get animated and it can be very funny but they are talented at acting like they're really pissed. I spent a lot of time on marching parties because I couldn't help smiling when the chief started tap dancing and his voice went up 12 octaves. Everything else is easy. The running, swimming, rifle qualification were fun. If you don't like boot camp you will love it when you get to the fleet. You only have to work half a day.......12 hours.
It's been a couple years since I left RTC, but I remember some dude from my brother div who shit himself the second before the last of the 12 laps on the final PFA but he carried on like a boss! The moment he crossed the finish line, he went STRAIGHT to the head. It was embarrassing but we all had mad respect for that guy because he proved that *NO SHIT, literally* would get him asmo'ed.
My dad used to be an engineman a school instructor at Great Lakes. We used to always go to the USO on base and play pool on the weekends when I was younger.
Damn I haven't been to boot since September 2015. I don't even know why I stressed the entire time. It sucked because our RDC pushed 800 div's and he got in trouble towards the end lol. Great amazing times. My advice is don't get into a fight with starboard watch, he'll give you watch after graduation on liberty haha
thank you your video has been very informative, things that are common sense but i didnt think about your video is the only one i've seen that covers more or different things then any other video. i ship out January 5th 2016 as an HM so now i feel more motivated to pass that PFA. :) thanks once again. I think you should keep making videos of things people don't really cover in other video makes you stand out. :)
Hey Yoon! I leave to Boot camp in 3 days ,ive been watching your videos for a while now and they are so amazingly informative! :D ,I am also an LS like yourself :) Any last minute advice you can give me ? Much Appreciated!
+Merder3471 Hey future sailor! Welcome aboard! Let me think... Your first few days you will feel some culture shock as many different people from different backgrounds clash into one team. Some people are motivated for the Navy and some people are not. My biggest advice if I haven't mentioned it in this video is 'Treat others the way they want to be treated" I'm not saying treat bad people bad. But, try to understand why they act the way they do and have an open mind. Here are some last minute advices. a. Keep a journal of your experience in boot camp. b. Using flash cards help with studying.c. You'll get split second choices to pick your own bunk after Processing week. Get one closet to the head (bathroom)d. Surround yourself with people of your same interest. I surrounded myself with people who were religious, athletic, and on top of their class.e. Remember, if you want to stand out take the hardest job. You will be so involved in boot camp you won't really remember most of these! However, the biggest thing I would emphasize is keep a journal and write in it every single day as much as you can. You will enjoy your time in boot camp. Have fun shipmate!
Question about the a-school there in middle-of-nowhere (meridian): What has changed there since febuary 2011? I left the day after they first opened up the BWW there by the mall. Has much changed, or is it still the same shithole it was when I left? Also, was the condemned building on the road behind the barracks still there, or did the termites finally take it down?
+Marisa T. Hey Future Sailor! This is a accurate chart of Physical Standards you need to have www.navycs.com/navy-fitness-assessment.html It all depends on your age. As far as push ups go, make sure you do 90 with your elbows and get proper form. Emphasis on proper form. Good form will help you do much more push ups. If you have anymore questions feel free to ask.
Thanks for the information about boot camp , I will be shipping Oct 15th 2015 unless I can get my ship date moved closer :). I will be a LS, I look forward to hearing about your A school experiences and overall what it is like . Also what was your initial thoughts upon seeing Meridian for the first time?
Andrew Alvarado I will be making a video about my A school experience down the road. Currently at my second week in class. My initial thought? It's extremely hot all day every day. Also, what other videos would you like to see?
Do you have to take another physical when you arrive to boot camp? In Meps, I failed my first color vision test but my second test was the FALANT, idk if you're familer, but it's a small box with two small light bulbs and they blink red whit and green, and you have to say why color it is, I passed this test. So they ruled me as no color blindness, I want to try out for special forces but this may be stoping me from that. if you have to take another physical in boot camp do you get the same option to take the FALANT in you fail the first time?
yoon first off i want to say that i appreciate and respect what you are doing and i really enjoy your videos. Im a 19 year old jordanian (arabic) male who want to join the navy for a year contract do you think thats possible?
Navy boot camp is a joke now. Training timeout cards?? We never had shit like that and if we were supposed to have them, my RDC never told us. Do you guys still try to make it rain? My RDC used to tell us to do push-ups in berthing till our sweat would make it rain lol
hi, I'm 19 and have loss 210 pounds and 6'0 foot and my max weight was 430 at 16 years old my goal is enroll into the navy at about 22 or 23 years old but i have looseskin is that a big deal in the navy.
As long as you meet the physical requirements. I do not believe looseskin would be a problem. You could double check with a recruiter. Keep me posted on your progress!
I've been watching your videos and I'd like to say thank you for the overall informative boot camp/navy life review! I was just wondering whether there's a bonus in the Navy for knowing more than one language and that you have to pass the designated language proficiency test you are familiar with. A friend of mine just graduated from MCRD and he got promoted to E-2 just by passing the Japanese language proficiency test. Just wanted to know whether that applies the same in the Navy, and my recruiter hasn't been so specific about it. I'm currently in DEP and will be shipping out in 20151214 :)
+Sonia Tamara Yes, there is a language test you can take. I do not know much about it... I know if you do pass you get paid more, but as far as ranking to the next pay grade I do not know. Make sure you MAKE your recruiter go with you to do this test ASAP while in DEP. If he or she wants you to do it while in boot camp or afterwards, it just means they don't want to put in the extra work to give you that opportunity. So anyway, make sure you get this done ASAP (I should've done mine...). Give me an update.
just to but in.I suggest you know all your ranks and basic stuff like that that in the dep book they give you. that way when they give you the knowledge test when you get to bootcamp you can make e2 automatically. trust me you me you want to do that it'll help. ive been in the Navy for little over 2 years now I started as an e1. and I just took my e4 exam this past September. I had to do time in rate if you make e2 in bootcamp that shaves 9 months off you having to wait to take e4. totally worth it lol I went through boot camp September 2013 so idk if that test is still given. it should be
im about to join as well and i was wondering how many push ups and situps must i be able to do to pass the PFA, and what is passing in swim class? (btw your videos really helped me thanks)
I'm a pure Filipino that want to be a US Navy, how did you process your citizenship? I want my Father to be proud of me but the problem is I'm a pure Filipino, can I still make it to the navy what are the requirements?
+jasonkyo11 I already had citizenship prior to joining so there was no problem for me. However, you do need a Green Card to join. Talk to a local recruiter, they will give you all the info you need. Also, if your parents aren't citizens I have heard that once you join you can get citizenship for your family members also. Look into that. I don't know too much info in regards to that.
I leave 20160202. I will be shipping out as an E2, is it possible to acquire E3 from the DEP test? Or does the DEP test only apply to E1 to E2 advancement?
+Alexandra Anderson They teach you how to swim in boot camp for a very brief moment. I recommend however, you learn back stroke and use that in boot camp.
+Yoon Ho Kim. whew ok thanks :) and for the physical readiness test, do you basically have 3 tries to do it and if you pass the first time you're clear?
So sorry I spell your name Incorrect. Thank u so much. I did give him all the great advice you us on u-tube. He called me yesterday and told me he's leaving out for A school
+SB53KTA Not at all. I would say 10 minutes of buds workout = 2 months of boot camp work out. ^_^ Boot camp physical standards is really low. Boot Camp is designed for people who have never worked out.
Yoon Kim thank you so much for informing me. Im on a weight loss journey right now and going to enlist in the navy once i drop to 181 or less as my recruiter said. Your videos really motivate me more and more. I Wake up at 4 am everyday to work out so i can be ready once im set. Thank you for your service to the country.
+Calob DeBerry Realisticly going to Japan as of now is far fetched. There just isn't really any opening going to japan. Chances are really really low. Going in expect to not get it and hope for the best.
Yoon Kim Thanks man! It's always been a dream of mine so I'm good for waiting.. How is the A school like? I'd imagine we would be going to the same one since we have the same rates?
+Calob DeBerry I have a video already made related to A school. Check out my video titled QOTD #3 "A" School Teaching. Life In A School, and "A" School Room Tour.
hey what are the physical requirments before bootcamp? and on the dep testchoe did you do did you pass every test i will be enlisting soon i just took my asvab
+Mikaya Moorleghen I can't tell you how much there is. However, I can tell you just know your training guide and pay attention to things in boot camp. With that you should be fine.
+FLB Clan If Navy life is for you after HS I recommend you look into NJROTC (During HS) and Naval Academy (After HS). Talk with your parents to see which path is best for you.
It is unfortunate for the navy to be hard on the recruits. In an actual engagement, it is marksmanship that matters the most, no amount of physical fitness or endurance can beat sharpshooters. The navy should focus more on marksmanship than punishing recruits with heavy shouting, demanding physical challenges. It is only a bullet that makes a difference between life and death in war.
The hardest part about boot camp is keeping a straight face and not laughing at the chief when he goes nuts. That made me laugh so hard lmfaoooo
You would be trying not to cry if you were getting yelled at by a marine di
Thank you for your service! My daughter is Navy also and I'm proud of you all! Stay safe. I hope your videos help a lot of people. :)
Definitely do help people :)
It's been a couple years since I left RTC, but I remember some dude from my brother div who shit himself the second before the last of the 12 laps on the final PFA but he carried on like a boss! Damn I haven't been to boot since September 2015. I don't even know why I stressed the entire time. It sucked because our RDC pushed 800 div's and he got in trouble towards the end lol. I am an Eagle Scout, so I would be an automatic E3 (Its on paper)
what ate Apoc? and Rroc? that you were talking about?
*Aroc and Rpoc. Rpoc is the division "leader" and Aroc is the guy who is more or less second in command and sings cadence while everyone marches.
How many pushups and situps are we supposed to do to pass PFA?
You can find the fitness chart according to your age online.
Do you have to take another physical when you arrive to boot camp? +Ryan ramirez They do take a small physical once you arrive. In the detail of what you are telling me I would recommend you talk to a recruiter.
yoon first off i want to say that i appreciate and respect what you are doing and i really enjoy your videos. Im a 19 year old jordanian (arabic) male who want to join the navy for a year contract do you think thats possible?
no, minimum is 4 year contract.
Does the machine mess up often? Would it look ridiculous or would you get singled out if you ran extra lap and didn't need to?
Hey what was your division number?
251
005!
Tristan Nix Your also a navy?!
Navy boot camp is a joke now. Training timeout cards?? We never had shit like that and if we were supposed to have them, my RDC never told us. Do you guys still try to make it rain? My RDC used to tell us to do push-ups in berthing till our sweat would make it rain lol
+Byung Cho RTC *
+Jaivon Ballard actually RTC is the command. RDC is recruit division commander
Oh
I need a question answered can you help me
Go ahead.
I can swim and love swimming but I don't know any like strokes. is that fine for the swim part?
+Anaki Tenshi No, you need to know one of the four strokes
Thanks :)
+Yoon Ho Kim what kind of strokes do we need to learn? Also do we need to learn all 4 of them by the end?
I think only 1
+Jerod Rumney Only do 1 50 yards across the pool. Freestyle, Backstroke,Sidestroke and the other I forgot.
10 Counts ...Begin!!!
what is your job in the Navy
Hey Jon, my job in the Navy is being a Logistic Specialist.
do you get kicked out if you can't swim? i heard they teach you if you can't. is it basic stuff in the testing?
hi, I'm 19 and have loss 210 pounds and 6'0 foot and my max weight was 430 at 16 years old my goal is enroll into the navy at about 22 or 23 years old but i have looseskin is that a big deal in the navy.

+Yoon Kim Hey again! Sorry for the extremely late response but it turns out I have to take it after boot camp in the duration of my A school.
im about to join as well and i was wondering how many push ups and situps must i be able to do to pass the PFA, and what is passing in swim class? (btw your videos really helped me thanks)
+Ronelle Paul Please check out this link below and see the score according to your age. Satisfactory is passing
+Ronelle Paul www.navycs.com/navy-fitness-assessment.html
+Yoon Kim This is excactly what i needed thank you so much!
I have a question what is the boot camp you attended called?
Recruit Training Command (RTC)
I'm a pure Filipino that want to be a US Navy, how did you process your citizenship? I want my Father to be proud of me but the problem is I'm a pure Filipino, can I still make it to the navy what are the requirements?
+jasonkyo11 I already had citizenship prior to joining so there was no problem for me. However, you do need a Green Card to join. Talk to a local recruiter, they will give you all the info you need. You should make a video about Foreign teenagers that want to be a US Navy. So that we know the requirements, because this is our dream.
do you know how far or how much you need to swim while you're there? or are there any videos explaining a similarity of that? thank you :)
+queeeen_xx The only swim requirement is to pass your swim test. That is the only swimming you will do. If you don't pass you will swim more.
+queeeen_xx Yes, I have a video that covers the swimming topic in boot camp. Link below
+queeeen_xx ua-cam.com/video/3VhlBCHQ2rM/v-deo.html
+Yoon Kim okay, thank you so much! I'll definitely check that out.
I leave 20160202. I will be shipping out as an E2, is it possible to acquire E3 from the DEP test? Or does the DEP test only apply to E1 to E2 advancement?
+XxTournaquetxX DEP Test is only e1-e2
That's a bummer....
+XxTournaquetxX I ship out Jan 25th dude, I am E-2 MMS & I'm excited. I've watched Yoon's videos, I am ready to go!
Best of luck to you! I may see you there!
I leave 20160203
Lss
20160321 is my shipdate. im scared that i wont pass the swim test because ive never been taught proper strokes.. i know how to swim tho. am i fine?
+Alexandra Anderson They teach you how to swim in boot camp for a very brief moment. I recommend however, you learn back stroke and use that in boot camp.
+Yoon Ho Kim. whew ok thanks :) and for the physical readiness test, do you basically have 3 tries to do it and if you pass the first time you're clear?
In boot camp the Physical Fitness Assessment you only need to pass the 3rd the last one.
+Yoon Ho Kim ok thank you so much! i feel better about this whole shenanigans
Yu when my son complete boot camp March 11th will the Navy send him home for a week or do he go straight to his A~school? Regina thank u
+Regina Glenn he will go to A school
So sorry I spell your name Incorrect. Thank u so much. I did give him all the great advice you us on u-tube. He called me yesterday and told me he's leaving out for A school
When is the first opportunity you have to pass your swim test and do you have to pass the pfa all three times or do you just have to do it once?
+Jonmarie Maines first opportunity to pass is the first day of swimming class. No, do you not have to pass all 3. Just the last one.
hey can you tell me how many push ups are needed to pass boot camp training?
was bootcamp like it is in the buds class 234 video?
+SB53KTA Not at all. I would say 10 minutes of buds workout = 2 months of boot camp work out. ^_^ Boot camp physical standards is really low. Boot Camp is designed for people who have never worked out.
Yoon Kim thank you so much for informing me. Im on a weight loss journey right now and going to enlist in the navy once i drop to 181 or less as my recruiter said. Your videos really motivate me more and more. I Wake up at 4 am everyday to work out so i can be ready once im set. Thank you for your service to the country.
Hey! I ship out in November and I'm an LS too.. my goal is to get to Japan somehow! which is why I took this job- do you have any advice? :D
+Calob DeBerry Realisticly going to Japan as of now is far fetched. There just isn't really any opening going to japan. Chances are really really low. Going in expect to not get it and hope for the best.
+Calob DeBerry If you stay in the Navy for a while as LS you can definitely get to Japan in the future.
Just. Play. Their. Game. and have an A school waiting for you. (SEZ DOC)
what division were you in? Division 296 representing.
+Cristian Gonzalez I was in Division 251. I think you graduated 2 weeks after I did.
2 weeks sounds about right, its been a while, baby div graduated couple weeks ago lol
how long did it take to send the "form letter"?
hey what are the physical requirments before bootcamp? and on the dep testchoe did you do did you pass every test i will be enlisting soon i just took my asvab
* how did
what do u have to score on the asvab to join the military because i got a 40
+Joe Prieto Talk to a recruiter and see what they need. The national average is about 45 I think. You should in my opinion aim for 70.
How many questions are on the dep test ?
+Mikaya Moorleghen I can't tell you how much there is. However, I can tell you just know your training guide and pay attention to things in boot camp. With that you should be fine.
+Yoon Kim thanks
+Mikaya Moorleghen there's like 30 questions, it's a joke
I enjoy your videos! very informative. I leave for navy boot camp 20161024.
Thank you Angelina!
Hey Sailor, Im coming in as an E-3 will i receive E-3 while in boot camp? and if so, how much are the deductions taken out ?
you will be E3 shipmate. the pay scale in online i belive its $1800 a month but check it out. when do you ship?
i heard they teach u how to swim is that true
+Joe Prieto they teach you basic back stroke
Hey, i am a freshman in high school what should i do to get me above everyone else
+FLB Clan If Navy life is for you after HS I recommend you look into NJROTC (During HS) and Naval Academy (After HS). Talk with your parents to see which path is best for you.
+Yoon Ho Kim i already tried to look into naval academies for hs but all they had was afjrotc...do u know if they accept that as credibility
So you pick jobs to do in boot camp?
+Tyler Harris You get to pick or sometimes you are told to be rpoc, head po, and etc. Depends on the RDC (instructor)
What division were you in??
+Brad Menz 251
+Yoon Kim Was in 269
+Brad Menz This video was posted the day after my boot camp graduation :)
do we have to do pull ups at the navy boot camp
+wes98 No you do not. Only for specops they do pull ups.
what is specops
Special Warfare people. Example Seal, rescue divers and etc.
would those training to be pilots or naval aviators would be considered special warfare
Maybe for Officers? Officers might, I'm not too sure about officers trainings. However, for enlisted personnel no.

It is only a bullet that makes a difference between life and death in war.
god damn Yoon you so fine 😍😍
Thank you haha.
