    People who have never been a caregiver will never understand why it really is no big deal. I chose to be a caregiver for a career and I also cared for both my parents when they could not care for themselves. I have literally had to dig poo out of a persons behind on a daily basis, clean up vomit and change feeding tubes and other medical devices. Nothing seriously bothered me at all because I CARED for each individual I assisted. When you care you don't even think of what may be disturbing to others. Ironically now that I need help - I have no one.

      How much a part of the positive experience can you attribute to the attitude of the people needing help? I cared for my mom for several years but she was impossible to satisfy, never acknowledged the effort, and although I knew I was helpful and actually necessary to her on going life, I felt inadequate and depressed. I’m glad I did what I did for her, but it was a horrible time.

    When you love somebody, caretaking is still gross at times, but you do it anyway, because you love them.

    • @wolfgangshuman
      @wolfgangshuman 2 роки тому +13

      You do caregiving because you have to, the other persons life literally depends upon it. Not just for love. A caregivers role has to have a huge element of selflessness, the love is a bonus not a requirement. I know I’d much rather someone who loves me to look after me than not but it’s a duty to care for someone that can’t do it themselves, not love itself.

    2 months ago, This was my first video I ever watched of yours and I was absolutely SMITTEN!!! I’ve seen so many many others now. You two are my FAVORITE UA-cam couple! Funny, clever, classy, and I love how much I am LEARNING. I am a CNA at a hospital and completely identify with the reality of embarrassment and vulnerability that is involved. If I sense a patient is embarrassed over what I have to do for them, or what their body has done in front of me, I tell them, “what happens in the hospital STAYS in the hospital”. They usually laugh and it puts them at ease. I think being a caregiver is a beautiful thing, for so many different reasons. Thank you for sharing and help normalizing CARING for others selflessly. It’s beautiful 🤍

    For Hannah, please let your doctor know about the passing out feelings that you said happen a lot. You might have POTS, and POTS is worse if you get dehydrated (like in the morning when first getting up) also, per Dr agreement, increasing salt intake also helps. There's also neurocardiogenic syncope, NCS, which is what I have. It's very similar to POTS where your blood pressure tanks and your pulse skyrockets making you feel like your going to pass out. These are diagnosed by a tilt table test, which is not fun.

I should know i sound like a dying cat but i love to sing !! A scene from MY BEST FRIENDS WEDDING when julia Roberts intends to make the cameron diaz bride to be humilated and repulsive during keoroke because she couldn't carry a tune . She has also said she is "double jointed" which isn't a real thing. She thinks she is though and it's because her hands and wrists are too flexible. She can bend her thumb all the way to to her arm, which is troubling. This is one of the tests for Ehlers Danlos and other tissue connectivity disorders. She is 6 ft tall and very lanky with very long arms. Now she mentions this dizziness upon standing which is another classic symptom. It means her veins/arteries can't constrict fast enough when she stands up quickly, causing all the blood to rush out of her head. She needs to get genetic testing. It can be dangerous not to know you have this disorder because it can cause heart problems that must be carefully monitored.

      while I cant relate. I grew up with a couple of kids whose dad has cerebral palsy and what I saw with their mom is really that when the right person comes along. Though easier then said than done. Was that in general, she just loves their dad. They waited for marriage to be intimate as we are in the same religion and thats our belief and I do think that played a factor in the background. It wasn't necessary to talk about intimacy before marriage because she loved him enough that it wasn't the focus. They've been married for almost 3 decades now. I believe that sometimes when we let things happen naturally, we know better what to do in questionable situations. Somehow we just know what to say and what to expect, to assume the best in someone. Though I do still think you pose an interesting question for even those of us who cant relate because its not something we think about as much.

    I love you two. Your relationship maturity rises to a level that many people can't grasp. They're always going to project their own inability to handle certain situations onto you two because that's how they would feel in that given situation. But that has nothing to do with how you two deal with things. You two know how to do the relationship thing in a superior mature way. People can only see from their own short-sightedness. In my next life I'm going to have a relationship like yours. Keep teaching 🤜🤛! Be careful about the lightheadedness, Hannah! My wife has a very similar issue, which was eventually diagnosed as vasovagal syncope. Standing up _often_ makes her blood pressure drop, and she has to bend over so her head is lower than her heart to keep from passing out. Which brings me to the "be careful" part. After dating a while, we went on a trip to visit my family for the first time. She had one of the spells as she got up, and this was before she got better at handling it. She had been sitting near the hearth on the other side of the room, looking at some of my childhood photos. She stood up, stretched and immediately took a nose dive, whacking her head on a footstool, at which point her neck went sideways. Yikes. She was okay, but she had some facial bruises after and my family definitely gave me a hard time about it (jokingly). I also got some dirty looks from cashiers (not jokingly). But seriously, her head landed just inches away from the stone hearth. Could have been really bad. So take care of yourself, Hannah, and keep an eye on it.

    I think it's cause care giving good true caring giving is hard to find. It's hard to find people that see you as a full person who just needs help and respect you. Often times at least in my experience you tend to get the opposite, or those types of people are very rare and hard to find. I've been on the program to find that lets me find my own care, and I only found one person who really saw me as an independent full human being who respected my wants and needs but still put in the work every day and made my day blissful. That stuff is Sadly rare and doesn't come by very often

    Have you ever considered having an additional caregiver assist Shane with toileting ? Hygiene in general? As i guess it would be difficult to predict when the caregiver would need to be present for toileting unless he is pretty regular lol . I am disabled and suffer from cancer and diabetes and at times have had to have my daughter in the bathroom and my mother and grandmother not all at once they shared the experience and took turns as well as bathing and its a humbling experience. I don't think i could do that with a spouse . To be a caregiver is an act of unconditional love for sure . Not every relationship could withstand it . Its beautiful to witness the level of love you share. Its a blessing. A gift. Cherish it .
