- In this video we're listening to part of the second half of Yes' Close To The Edge album. We received a lot of requests to finish listening to this album, and we're going to do it in two parts. One today, and one tomorrow. This is the first song on the B-side of this album. We're ready. Enjoy!

We had to discover bands like these back in the late 60’s into the 70’s by our friends. We each had a knack for finding different artists. Someone would by the album and we’d all listen to it together in groups of two to five.
We were lucky since we lived in NJ close to the train line which took us to Madison Square Garden where many concerts were held. So even at 14-15 you felt safe on the train ride because it was packed with just kids going to the concert.
I’ve seen Yes 17 times and they were my first concert and it was so amazing.
YES!!! You should do 'Awaken' and 'The Gates of Delerium' when you're ready for some some more long epics, they will blow your minds! Thanks for getting back to YES, the greatest band to ever do it, ever!🤩

You have ventured into the sacred territory of the Yes fan. Close to the Edge, Yes Album, and Fragile are where it all began in earnest, those albums that really set the trend for what Yes was all about: great compositions, arrangements, instrumentation, and performances. This is the father of all progressive bands. Yes stands singular and secure in a top-tier position in the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Excellence.
I love how EVERYONE hearing YES music for the first time suddenly has a BIG SMILE on their face!! Such upbeat, positive and otherworldly music from this epic band. My #1 favorite band of all time! ❤️

An incredible track from my favorite " Prog " album. Love the introduction & build-up & Jon Anderson with one of his great vocals & the pulsing bass 🔊 ! Awesome 👌
You must hear more Yes! From their first really big album (a 3rd album actually), 'The Yes Album' from 1971, do the first song there _Yours Is No Disgrace._ Followed by the awesome second one, _Starship Trooper,_ probably the most popular song of early Yes. There are four early studio albums to note: The Yes Album (71), Fragile (72), Close To The Edge (72) and Relayer from 1974. Two excellent pair of songs from Fragile are best experienced together back-to-back as they blend in: _We Have Heaven_ & _South Side of the Sky..._ and _Long Distance Runaround_ & _The Fish (Schindleria Praematurus)._ Best to do these before you do _Heart Of The Sunrise._ Enjoy! ✌😎

I saw Jon twice this last weekend, with the Paul Green Rock Academy. At 79, he still SOUNDS LIKE THIS. He’s still hitting high B’s and C’s at nearly 80 yrs of age. They were such wonderful shows. 😍

Yay ! Classic Album , Ace all day long , a great "Yes" rabbit hole and trip is on the way. The brilliant Illustrator Roger Dean , created Yes album covers , they really are fantastic ! Well Roger and his brother Martyn created the stage sets for Yes ! Check out the set
called "Crab Nebulla " a fully articulated 3 headed creature . amazing . I cant think which Yes tour it is on ,but a must view !

One of my favorites from them. I love at 14:01. all of a sudden Wakeman switches to piano and has that lovely descending run to set up the ending of the song. Just one item, but it helps make the song. This song SOARS.
Back in the early 80's some of the older kids had YES patches on their clothing. It could only have bode well for our future! The middle bit always irked me though...Guess they anticipated a rough ride! Music is Genius!
If you liked 'Roundabout' you should listen to the rest of the album it came from - 'Fragile'. Another Yes classic.

One of the top prog rock bands (along with King Crimson, Emerson Lake & Palmer, early Genesis, and, of course, Pink Floyd). I hope you do Yes's song "Starship Trooper" sometime, IMO their best, and also an underrated deeper cut, "Lift Me Up". "Roundabout's awesome" - so is hearing a Canadian say "Roundabout" :)

Sometime back in the 1970s a friend said to me "you have to hear this"' We laid on the floor with our heads between the speakers and this is what she played.
‘And You And I’ is a absolute Masterpiece, just like the rest of this Album.
My all time favourite Band. (Along with Pink Floyd), since the age of 14. I saw Yes live for the first time, in 1973, age 17. And they performed the whole of this Album, along with the whole of ‘Tales From Topographic Oceans’.
I also saw Jon Anderson perform the whole of the ‘Close To The Edge’ Album, live, just 5 days ago, in London, with the amazing young musicians from the ‘Paul Green Rock Academy’, from the US.
Jon is 78 now and his unique voice still sounds as good as ever. He still hits the high notes.
Hope you get to hear my all time favourite Yes track too. ‘Awaken’, from the Album, ‘Going For The One’. (1977).

The most melodic song from Close. It's my favorite from this great album, though all three tracks are amazing. it's yes at their best, which is saying a lot.

After about 30 years of listening to the Yes music, I still don´t know what exactly are the lyrics about. The lyrics are there and they create atmosphere and you can pretty much create your own idea of what they´re about.
Yes! Turn of the Century from Going for the One album will take your heart ❤️💜as will Awaken more so.

Rick Wakeman, the virtuoso keyboard player, was a fellow pupil at my school in West London in the sixties. He used to play the organ during the daily religious assemblies there. His cousin, a top saxophone player also went there as did Mike Westbrook, a famous jazz composer, who was an art teacher there. The culture during that era meant that you were exposed to all types of influences, hence the brilliance of Yes and all the other bands like the Beatles. Their minds were overflowing with ideas due to the culture they inhabited then. Now, the empty “culture” of today just seems to teach ugliness and banality. Living in London in the sixties and seventies was an extraordinary blessing. Nice to see the lady letting the music carry her away.
Should give Van Der Graaf Generator - Pilgrims, a listen they are fantastic band.

A couple listens to get the lyrics? Haha. Try a couple thousands. I still don't get the lyrics. Or maybe I do. Or maybe there is nothing to get. The mystery is one of the reasons I love Yes so much.

This is a strange comment I know 😃, but even though I love Yes and I love that you're reacting to this, I prefer your channel when you react to songs/artists that other reactors don't, your choices are always interesting and different. Please don't take this as a negative comment, it's not 🙂, it's just to point out there's a difference between enjoying music reactions vs enjoying my favourite music.
Missing the words in a Yes track isn't really a problem. Jon used them more as a structure to hold his vocal melodies. They don't so much mean anything as suggest a mood or a concept. If you are doing another Yes album, I'd suggest Relayer. It's another three track masterpiece with the epic Gates Of Delirium on side one.

Exactly. It's the vocal sound, not the vocabulary meaning. He is excellent at "phrasing" as they say. Frank Sinatra level in my mind.
The lyrics are not that important in Yes songs It's more of the feelings.
Hello.. .guys it sounds like a movie sound track this one by YES....l have a band from Melbourne you would not know ..l started working for them when l was 16 years old in 1980 doing lighting for 3 years for them one year we done more than 365 shows ,we also done Australian tour with JOAN JETT....CHECK OUT the band from Melbourne Australia( UNCANNY X- MEN.. song... 50 YEARS) the lead singer asked me what song should they record in the studio l said this one...(the name was approved by MARVEL ..to use.)
Is this the original track or an alternate take? I hear some different sounds that I don't remember in the original.

It’s the Steve Wilson remastered mix from 2012. So I does sound different in places.
No, it sounds to me like the original. It’s probably the 2003 remaster. I don’t believe it is the Steve Wilson remix.
One of my all time favorite songs, as beautiful as music gets. I believe 2,000 years hence, if the species still can listen, Yes will still inspire and amaze. Time will never catch up to the classic Yes canon.

Might be correct. My ears aren’t what they were (especially back in ‘72). But that image they are showing of the album cover looks like the Steve Wilson one. As I dint have either remix, I’ll bow to your superior knowledge.

That might be it, but it sounds drastically different than the original if thats the case. There is no way this is the original album cut. I know this song like I know my schlong. It would be nice if the channel creators chimed in but they dont appear to respond much.

I think you have to be a Yes devotee to like this track , I’m a part time fan only and am finding this a bit indulgent and overlong. But I totally get why others will be luxuriating to this track , it’s just my opinion .

I love Yes, but the only problem I have with Jon Anderson is that there's no shade or darkness to the songs he writes.
Have you never listen to The Gates Of Delirium? Plenty of Darkness in that one.
