I appreciate this video. When I fired up my sidekick I felt that the flame was not right. It cook ok. I looked in the instructions and checked again after watching this and I do not see anything about adjusting the flame. Now that that is adjusted my flat top cooks amazing.
Great job! I've watched a bunch of videos and this covered some questions I still had, thank you. *If someone finds an aftermarket cover that would work well with the sidekick AND mounted attachment AND a propane tank - please post it!*
With no intention of using all the alternate tools, I’m torn between the sidekick and the sear box. I really only plan on using it to replace my current gas grill. Quick Burgers, dogs, chicken etc. thoughts?
I love making pizza inside the smoker on lower heat and smoking it for about 30-40 minutes which adds some great flavor. For me the pizza box is a no. I just bought the sidekick and waiting to use it hopefully sooner rather than later. Thanks for the video!
I got the same Woodwind with Sidekick that’s more versatile than the other model with sear box only. Also have the barbecue deluxe add-on for searing replacing that sear box option and the front shelf. What I don’t have is a finished backyard yet lol! I agree this model is already an update and an upgrade compared to other grills. Good review here.
Thanks for watching! I dont have a fancy backyard and just have a small concrete pad but the food still comes out great regardless of where the grill is at!
How do the grill marks compare on the searbox vs the sidekick grill box or griddle? Right now I finish my steaks on cast iron on my stove. I think the sear box can get to a higher temp (900F), what about the grill box? With more BTU you would think the sidekick could do it.
Thanks for the review!! I ordered the CC Woodwind 24” with the sidekick. I was really hoping the grill box will sear like the sear box does. Am I wrong then? Is there a huge temp difference?
Russ Stoker Did you get it yet? my sidekick is still on back order but I’ll tell ya I think if you get the burner on the grill box just as hot you’ll sear just as fine . I think the versatility of the sidekick is better than the sear box the griddle might even make a better sear then a grill you won’t have lines but it will be fun to experiment...
Tony this is MeatHead. I changed my Channel name. What an awesome accessory. Camp chef is so far ahead of everyone else with innovation, and technology. This was an excellent overview
Hey Chris! I dig the name man. Its a twist on your previous name but now you dont have to worry about taking someone else's name. Camp chef is constantly innovating which sets them apart from the competition! The only bad part to this is that it hurts your pocket book in the end haha..
Love the videos Tony! You are the reason I purchased Camp Chef’s 6 burner flat top grill. It’s been fun and amazing cooking on that for my family and friends. Any chance we get to see more cooking videos? Would love to see you in action with the woodwind and it’s accessories.
Hey Shawn I'm glad you're enjoying your 6 burner griddle. I love mine! People keep telling me its overkill for a family of 2 1/2 but what do they know haha.. I plan on getting some cooking videos up but I havent had much time to film lately. Hopefully I start here soon since I need more content for the channel haha.. I appreciate you watching!
tonybuddy123 We are a family of 4, with two young kids (5 and 3), so I only use half the flat top at any given time. But I enjoy spacing out the food when cooking (especially if the wife and I want something different) and using the remaining half as a warming side (burners off). Comes in super handy for cooking foods like fajitas or quesadillas for the kids. Since you mention how frequently you cook, did you ever consider doing some basic time lapse videos where you have a quick intro and a final tasting? Just tossing out some ideas to help the channel grow. Thanks again for the informative videos!
Yeah you sold me on this model also the sidekick accessory looks really awesome I ordered one earlier in the week should be here in a couple days. So what do you think about ordering the 36 inch cover and putting it on the 24 inch cooker?
I just got my Woodwind SG24 with the sidekick and the Deluxe Grill Box. Thinking about ordering the heat diffuser. Do you think the diffuser can be set directly on the Sidekick burner. I'm thinking probably not because it would close off the flame openings. I really enjoy watching your videos. Keep them coming.
Great video Tony and you answered a lot of questions I had. One other thing if you buy the sidekick does it have a cast iron for searing or do you have to buy something totally different for that? Also I just purchased the new 24 pro... Thanks Steve
Hey Steve, I just ran across your question to Tony, maybe I can answer? I just TODAY got the sidekick to attach to my CC PG24 (the DLX 24). What I ended up doing was ordering the sidekick with the cast iron griddle included, then I purchased the BBQ grill box as a stand alone item. That wound up being less expensive than buying the sidekick with the BBQ grill box included. Plus, I got the griddle too! CC is pretty confusing with their items...you can find the sidekick/sear box (which they now refer to as BBQ box?), the sidekick/griddle, the sidekick alone, the sidekick/pizza...you get the idea. Poke around a bit. I was pretty happy with the sidekick/griddle and then the BBQ box.
Hey man thanks for your videos. Few questions: How did you get the front castors on? Mine only came with the back ones. Does the sidekick come with the hose and the regulator? Thanks
Thanks man. Ya I agree and I have all the same stuff but bigger for my camp chef 3 burner stove as well lol... Im struggling to store all of this stuff haha... My wife doesnt nag me as much and as long as she can still park in the garage she doesnt care how cluttered it gets since she's never in there haha..
Hey Tony, great video and explanation of the accessories. I am now going to get the woodwind 24 with the sidekick From Home Depot and they will put it together for me. I was wondering about the cover thing being so tight. How about if you bought the cover for the woodwind 36 do we think that would fit well enough?
Great video, thanks! So, the sear box is 16k btu and the sidekick is bigger and 30k btu. Maybe a silly question but can you sear as good or better with the sidekick? I’m assuming you’d need the bbq box...
The Sidekick with the griddle (comes with it) is far better at searing. If you want crosshatch marks, you'll have to get the BBQ Box accessory or just go with the Sear Box, but for the best flavor you don't want crosshatch, you want that browning all over the surface of the meat. Crosshatch is for competitions and for people who think pretty=flavor, a.k.a. suckers.
Nice review. I just recently purchased the Woodwind SG with the Sidekick. I really struggled with whether to go with Sidekick or the Sear Box. In the end I decided to with the Sidekick due to the added versatility it offers. I use the griddle for searing steaks and such, and it works great. I also purchased the grill box, which I use for everyday quick grilling. I feel like I made the right choice. Also, thanks for showing the air/fuel mixture adjustment. I had no idea about that. I guess I should have read the manual a little more thoroughly.
Thanks 1767SR! The sidekick is the way to go. The searbox is awesome but its limited and for me I dont cook a ton of steaks. The sidekick with additional accessories do add up but I think its worth the investment esp if you pick up a 2 burner camp stove as well.
1767SR - I am struggling with the same question. I know you stated you use the griddle to sear. Do you have the BBQ Grill Box and have you tried to sear with it?
no there isnt. the way the grill box is designed is suppose to keep the grease from spilling on the ground. I havent had any issues with grease getting all over the place.
The sidekick is physically big. Its wide then the searbox but as far as cooking surface is concerned the grill box accessory and searbox has about the same amount of space. I actually show this in the video by lining up the searbox grill grate to the grill box accessory. If you want to see it I start to show it at the 6:07 mark
So, can the sidekick reverse sear steaks like the searbox model and if so what griddle/grate do i use for this. Wife wants the sear function but if the sidekick does it It's a no brainer. Thanks for the really good videos and I will order after I hear the answer..
Great video, Tony. I’m still trying to decide on the Camp Chef Woodwind with a Sidekick. Will the propane tank fit under the grill on the shelf? Just thinking it would be more out of the way for storage and help the cover fit better.
Get the grill. I've used it -10 below temperatures without an insulating blanket and it was within 20 degrees of the target temp. I forgot to put the grill cover on once or twice and snow blew into the pellets which I kept it in and make them expand so I had to take it apart and honestly it was maybe a 30 minute process. if you take care of it and put the cover on and empty the pellets when snow or rain may come this thing would last 20 years at least. The sidekick can be purchased later and is able to be put on any grill with a side shelf. Get the grill first then decide if you need the sidekick. Owned mine for a year and maybe will get the sidekick but only for the pizza option.
Who cooks all the food on this thing? Don't folks have a stove inside to make eggs? Corn? Also, yikes on the propane tank and grill inside the garage... even for a few minutes - not a great idea.
Obiviously most people don't but as you can see those 14in attachments slot right into that much more portable grill he showed. So these can be used with camping and other things, plus most people don't want two grills taking up space.
Sidekick puts out more BTU. Go sidekick. You can sear with the BBQ box accessory.
I appreciate this video. When I fired up my sidekick I felt that the flame was not right. It cook ok. I looked in the instructions and checked again after watching this and I do not see anything about adjusting the flame. Now that that is adjusted my flat top cooks amazing.

i guess Im quite randomly asking but do anybody know of a good website to stream newly released movies online ?
Tony! Buddy! Please start making videos again. Another great video.
Almost 11,000 views and only 131 likes? Come on peeps, give this guy some credit. Great video.
haha... thanks! I guess I I should start begging for likes haha jk.
With no intention of using all the alternate tools, I’m torn between the sidekick and the sear box. I really only plan on using it to replace my current gas grill. Quick Burgers, dogs, chicken etc. thoughts?
MrMillbarge What did you decide? I’m in the same position
I love making pizza inside the smoker on lower heat and smoking it for about 30-40 minutes which adds some great flavor. For me the pizza box is a no.
I just bought the sidekick and waiting to use it hopefully sooner rather than later.
Thanks for the video!
where does the grease go when you use the grill with latching lid to grill burgers?
when not using the griddle, there is nothing to catch the grease?
I got a bigger gas grill cover from Amazon to fit my camp chef because of the issue he said. Works great.
I got the same Woodwind with Sidekick that’s more versatile than the other model with sear box only. Also have the barbecue deluxe add-on for searing replacing that sear box option and the front shelf. What I don’t have is a finished backyard yet lol! Can I BBQ and get grill marks with the sear box or do I need to buy the BBQ attachment for that?
How has it held up? Some reviews show some extreme rusting.
Couldn’t you use the cover for the 36 as to the cover for the 24?
How do the grill marks compare on the searbox vs the sidekick grill box or griddle? Right now I finish my steaks on cast iron on my stove. I think the sear box can get to a higher temp (900F), what about the grill box? With more BTU you would think the sidekick could do it.

Do those carrying bags come with the pizza oven, grill box? Or are they separate?

Looks like way better design than my $1000 weber
do you remove the grate when using the other options?
Hey man thanks for your videos.

Al Brendel Yes, i do have the grill box. I’ve tried searing with it, but it struggles to get hot enough to do a good job.
1767SR - Thank you for the feedback.
Al I have gotten the BBQ box up to 850 degrees and I haven't had any issues with searing my meat.
Thanks for showing the cover
Is there a grease catch system for the side kick grill attachment?
no there isnt. the way the grill box is designed is suppose to keep the grease from spilling on the ground. I havent had any issues with grease getting all over the place.
Is the Sidekick and Sear Box the same size (cooking surface with the grill box accessory)...

Yes, it does a great reverse sear. Use the griddle with a little bit of vegetable oil to get a beautiful brown all over the steak.
Why do you need the side kick sear box if the slide and grill feature works on the main grill.
Because slide and grill feature is trash
Great video, Tony. I’m still trying to decide on the Camp Chef Woodwind with a Sidekick. Will the propane tank fit under the grill on the shelf? Just thinking it would be more out of the way for storage and help the cover fit better.

Great review...only complaint? I was nauseous by the time I finished watching the video. Too much camera movement. Keep up the great work!
Great video sir! I just just ordered one myself! Should be here in a week! Can't wait!
I hope you enjoy it! I get alot of use out of mine. I own a yoder and I use my camp chef more since it has the sidekick attachment!
@@tonybuddy123 I got it last weekend! Went together smooth as silk! Love it!
@@BigBadJohnDiesel Thats awesome! What all have you cooked on it?
@@tonybuddy123 started out simple. Burgers one night and chops last night!
If the power goes out, you won't be able to use the pellet grill so buy a sidekick and you can still cook food
Debating this and the PitBoss KC Combo....Pitboss is cheaper....this is cool though.
awesome video bro love your setup. Big fan of compact and being organized.
Great helpful vedio 👍🏽
Nice review Tony!
Thanks Tom! The sidekick is freaking awesome and I love the versatility!
Is there a wok insert?
No there isn't but that would be a great accessory for camp chef to add since the burner is perfect for it.
I want to attach a Camp Chef grill to my hot dog cart for near daily use. This unit appears to be my answer.
How abt spending $200 side kick + $265 accessory =$465 on a weber propane 3 burner grill for just $479 ??
Who cooks all the food on this thing? Don't folks have a stove inside to make eggs? Corn? Also, yikes on the propane tank and grill inside the garage... even for a few minutes - not a great idea.

Do you remove the grate when u put the griddle on
