    I got my Woodwind 36 earlier this week, I'm handy with tools but it took 2 hours to assemble. Now that I've done one I could probably do another in an hour, but I had problems understanding the instructions in a couple of areas and in those area the figure drawings were not close enough to the issue to help much, but I did figure it out. It's well designed for assembly and very well made. I did the burn out/in without meat without any problems, but on the first use the control thermocouple failed several hours in. Called customer service and they are mailing out a replacement, also they emailed me instructions with clear pictures on how to remove and replace. Excellent customer service that is knowledgeable about their product and not in a foreign call center.

    My Z Grill 700E works good, I use it at least 3+ days a week. Here is the biggest problem with all pellet grills if you fill up the pellet hopper to the top. There is too much weight on one side and will tip over. Therefore, I placed brick pavers in the lower cabinet at the opposite side as a counter balance. Cleaning, I use a blower to blow out the ashes. Now, If I did it again, I would purchase the Woodwind SG 24 Pellet Grill with Sear Box or the Woodwind SG 24 Pellet Grill with Sidekick. Reasons: easier to clean out ash, change pellet types and I sometimes I really needed to sear items.

    Great review! I saw your Weber pellet review and was wondering if you could just either cut some grooves or holes (smaller than the pellets of course) in the sliding panel between the burn chamber and the ash pot so it would be more like the Weber...So as the pellets burn, the ash would automatically drop down into the ash pot. Just a thought.
    Also, when you fired the unit up and placed your ribs, it looked like the smoke was very even across the entire surface...can you verify that? Just curious as to the temp variances at the ends.

I wanted to ask you a question, I have a Yoder Smoker now and I really don't care for it for a lot of reasons, but the question is I know you like your camp Chef a lot but what do you think about the new Weber Pellet grill and smoker, and if you had to chose between the two and you didn't have your Camp Chef which one do you think would suit you better. I am in the market for change, because I think the Pellet smokers are underated. Thanks my friend. AWESOME JOB MY FRIEND.. GOD BLESS YOU.!!!

      I actually sold two of my older cookers and ordered a Weber SmokeFire. It will be here next week. I am also curious about the comparison of the Camp Chef against it, mainly for the PID WiFi controller. The Camp Chef works great.
      The Weber has a LOT of innovative features new to the Pellet Grill market. I’m hoping to try and test those. Knowing Weber, I’d say their claims are likely a safe bet but I also like to be hands on.

    Nice grill and a fun video! Although we get along fine with our little Weber Smokey Joe Gold, back in the day I would have loved to have something like this. Except, "back in the day" there was no wifi or pellets or Camp Chef Sidekicks. There was wood fire, charcoal or, later on, gas (propane or natural). Nothing fancy. Well, having a rotisserie was considered fancy. I'm pretty good at "assembly". In fact, I love it when I see "assembly required". Too bad we don't live next door to each other. Anyway, enjoyed seeing what the possibilities are these days!

    • @EverydayBBQ
      @EverydayBBQ  4 роки тому +1

      Thank you very much for watching, Chris. I don’t know exactly what others are experiencing but in general, Pellet Grills are designed to have temp swings. That’s where the smoke is generated. The pellets are burned, smoldered, burned, smoldered etc.. etc.. and that’s how the smoke is generated. There are also a lot of new pellet grill owners out there that may not fully understand how they operate yet. They’re still accustomed to gas grills where the lids are opened every couple of minutes. If they do that with pellet grills, yea they’re gonna have temp swings and blame the grill. How do I know this you might ask... well I was a new pellet grill owner too once lol. Typical temp swings are between 15-40 degrees up or down. This is totally normal and even happens in our home ovens only we don’t measure it so we don’t realize it. If the swings of their grills are more than 15-40 and they’re NOT opening the lids too much there might be a problem. However I find that it’s mostly user error and that goes for ANY pellet cooker brand. Hope this makes sense and helps. Thank you very much for watching, Chris.

    Hey Mike, first time viewer. Great video! I'm buying a Camp Chef Woodwind pellet grille, either 24" or 36" in the next week so I'm doing my research. Two questions. How much more pellets will be used by the larger one vs the smaller one? Is it negligible? Also, how difficult will it be to use it outdoors in winter/cold weather? I live in Minnesota. I'll always have the option to position it with a wind block. Thanks so much! Keep up the great work! Sol

    • @EverydayBBQ
      @EverydayBBQ  3 роки тому +2

      Thank you very much, Sol 🙏.
      Okay let’s tackle these questions...
      On the size, I’d say the pellet use will be more on the larger cooker but not a ton more. There will also likely be less even temps in the larger unit but again not by much and mostly on the far left and right edges.
      The Camp Chef isn’t manufactured with the thickest metal, however it is very reliable and works great. All pellet grills are somewhat difficult to start up in extreme cold and once they do, the thicker the metal the better the temperature consistently holds. Camp Chef does offer an insulated blanket for cold weather operations. I’d recommend it for where you live.
      You’ll love it!

    Appreciate the video. With most pellet grills you line the grease slide with foil then change the foil to prevent grease fires and make clean up easier but the slots on this one would prevent the use of foil. My question is how is the clean up as far as the grease is concerned? The slots also seem to increase the chances of a grease fire on the grease slide if/when direct grilling feature is used. I would appreciate your thoughts I this as well. I have a Traeger that I am returning die to the quality of the product finishing and trying to determine my next pellet grill (now that the SmokeFire is not an option).

    • @EverydayBBQ
      @EverydayBBQ  4 роки тому

      Thank you so much for watching and commenting. I typically will line the heat deflector with foil almost all the time when I’m cooking on it. On this particular model I really don’t use the slide grill feature because I have the sidekick with the grill box. You can however use the slide grill feature and it does risk some grease dripping below but I haven’t had any grease fires yet. That said, I suppose it’s possible when grease does get down there. That’s why I really recommend going with the sidekick and grill box for your searing and it provides a much better sear for you also.

    • @Whyisthissohorrible
      @Whyisthissohorrible 4 роки тому

      @@EverydayBBQ Do you cut the slots in the foil when you like the deflector? I am concerned about clean up of the grease as it is a major pain with the Traeger. I am also in Northern Illinois so I appreciate and can identify what it takes to grill 11.5 months of the year in this climate.

    Appreciate your review and that of the Weber SmokeFire. Question for you on both models is how you think they fare in northern climate -- as in Minnesota. I get that coming up to temp and even holding can be an issue. I have that with my WSM, kettle Napoleon. I'm wondering about the electrical components (fan, auger etc), data screen etc. Have experience with that or any thoughts? Much obliged.

      Thank you very much for watching, Stephen. I returned the Weber so I can’t really comment any further than my review. I know the Weber is thicker in terms of materials which would indicate it better, however it’s full of bugs, false claims and dangerous design defects. The Camp Chef has operated perfectly for me. It would likely struggle in cold climates, but Camp Chef does offer an insulated lid cover that I know helps for that.

      @@EverydayBBQ Thanks! I watched your SmokeFire review and shared your disappointment and surprise. After all, it's a Weber! One of the things that's kept me from going to pellet is how they'd fare in our winters, stored outside. Add the screen and I'm just not sure, even with an insulated cover. From mid-December to February we can be below 20 every day, and usually have sub zero days too. I bring everything under cover but still outside.

      I recommend joining the “Camp Chef Grill Owners” Facebook Group. It’s a wonderful group with lots of helpful owners. You can ask fellow owners in the same area how they fair in that climate. I’m sure you’ll find plenty of helpful people and information. I’m a member and it’s one of the most well run groups on Facebook.

    How usable is the direct fire sear function? How difficult is the ridged grease tray with slits to clean?

    • @EverydayBBQ

      The slide grill function isn’t very effective to be honest. I really recommend the searing be done with the sidekick and grillbox. I try to keep the try foiled on low and slows. It can be scraped but it’s not super easy. Not too bad though.

    In your opinion which add-on is better: sidekick or searbox ? I’m looking to replace my gas grill and wanted to have all-in-one unit like this (smoke + grill). Great video by the way. Thanks!

      Sidekick is the best to me. Gives you the most versatility.

    Have you been pretty happy with the Side Kick and the grill box? I have been torn between the side kick and sear box attachments. Have you tried the griddle on the side kick or pizza oven? Just curious if the sidekick offers true value and versatility or if its gimmicky at best. Thanks for your videos!

      They’re both really good for searing. The sidekick provides more flexibility but I’d say you’re good with either! Thank you very much for watching!

    After having this for a while are you happy with the level of smoke flavor it is providing? I like a deep smoke flavor and am concerned I won’t get it from a pellet grill. Good video- thanks.

      I absolutely love it. I am testing a prototype of a new Camp Chef model now and just gave this one away to a disabled Veteran. He loves it too. They are great cookers.
      If you’re used to offset smoker type smoke, there are few pellet grills that will give you that. There are ways to supplement the smoke, such as smoke tubes, but it’s never gonna be an offset. That said, they provide a good amount of CLEAN smoke flavor and produce some amazing food. My family loves it.
