Hey Jeff maybe you will read this but I’ve been hunting with a hill style long bow and recurves since the early 90s and live on a peanut farm in Georgia. I shoot on average 8 deer a year with bow. I have shot Simmons for years but tried single bevels and got the exact same results with over three years and finally swapped back and my track dog Georgia died in 2009. In Georgia thickets if they don’t bleed you don’t find them!!! I shoot 620 grains 400 spine gold tip and 205 grain Simmons safari’s at 43 pounds with saint Patrick lake hill bow. God bless brother

After finding your channel a few weeks ago I've been working my way through your content. Always tended to shoot a lighter arrow and after watching your videos I decided to load the front like you've talked about in several videos now. I'm using a 50# longbow, a black hunter that I've acquired to test actually. The arrow I decided on is a GT Warrior 400 with a 100gr insert, a 160gr Zwickey Eskimo that i rounded the point to more of a chisel profile (learned from Ted Nugent) and an additional 60gr of GT weights at the back of the insert for a total weight of 320gr up front and a total arrow weight of roughly 585gr. Wrapped with 4 inch turkey feathers, helical left and standard GT nocks. Flies true and last week between Tuesday and Saturday I invited 3 deer to the freezer party. Never gotten a deer with archery equipment before, let alone several in a few days and I have to lend you credit where it's due, all three passed the penetration test thanks to all that extra momentum.

Hey Jeff. So, I have experienced the same thing you have with the single bevel bloodtrails here in North Alabama. I have switched to Tuffhead Evolution 2 broadheads. And I now buy there blood rings. They are small blades that slide on. They are amazing. I still get all the penetration and cutting power of the single bevel but this opens up the entrance and exit wounds to really let the blood flow. I would highly suggest them.

Congratulations! Think I'm excited as you to see you get it. Way to not lose your cool after ramping one off a branch too. I'm still sick I got busted by a big buck on Oct 2nd in the Honey Island Swamp where I hunt. Did get a big ol boar on the 5th in the same spot though. Following your videos convinced me to try heavy arrows this season, and it paid off in spades, as I got a total pass through, double lung, on a thick hide boar. Didn't go much over 30 yards. Got the pictures! My 1st boar with a recurve as well.
50# Bear Kodiak from the ground. Easton Legacy 607 grain with a cheapo muzzy 3 blade fixed.
THANK YOU!!! I've learned so much from you, as I have no family or friends who hunt to learn from.

As I watch this I am making jerky out of a doe I shot 2 days ago. Shot with a 250 grain vpa single bevel. Very similar entrance and exit wound, but I think I only got one lung. The exit wound was actually clogged with tissue. The deer went 200 yards and a drone was needed for recovery. There was no blood after 20 yards.

Congrats on your Trad buck!!! Yes I have heard small width single bevel Broadheads don't leave a lot of blood. Better to use a very wide single bevel for blood trails of 1.5 inches or more. I shoot double bevel Broadheads of 1.1/8 seems to be not bad for bloodtrails. Maybe I'll have to try those summon broadheads

Jeff, I have decided to sell off all my 400 spine shafts and fletched full length new arrows. Any good places to advertise them. I know it’s kinda late this year, but I have several dozen and most are GT Hunter Pros. I was thinking of still trying to get them to shoot in my 45 lb. long bow, but decided to go with the ones I know will tune. I have more than enough 500 spine arrows to keep, but all the 400’s need to go to a good home.

The science behind broadheads that are narrow with a gradual sloping edge, and have the highest potential for great penetration is exactly what happened here. The deer doesn't know its hit and it may only go a few yards before stopping and looking around. After several critical seconds of internal bleeding, the deer realizes something is up, but it is too late and its final run is a short one, many times falling in sight or you can hear it crash as it goes out of sight. No blood trail needed. Wide broadheads can yield great blood trails, but have less potential to penetrate for a pass thru and on high hits with no pass thru, may still not produce a good blood trail. In some instances, even without a pass thru, you can get an adequate blood trail on lung hits because the blood exits the nose/mouth. Even with a small broadhead, if you hit a high pressure blood vessel like the arteries in the neck or the back leg femoral artery, the blood trail can be spectacular. I hit a deer thru the back leg with a tiny 7/8's inch 3 blade and I could see the blood spraying out of it as it ran 20 yards, stopped, and fell over backwards. Thanks for sharing the hunt!

I really enjoy your videos and the amount of research you put into things. I'm wondering if as a result of this latest deer kill are you thinking ALL single bevel 2 blades will leave a poor blood trail? I'm new to the traditional world and still waiting for my first shot at a deer let alone harvest. I ask this because I chose (for nostalgic reasons) the new Bear Razorhead single bevels and tuned things to shoot them very well. I'm running a 400 spine arrow with 264 grains up front and a total weight of 564 grains overall. If I get a deer with my setup I'll definitely let you know what my results were like. Thanks!

I shoot a hybrid mechanical now made by SWAT BROADHEADS & I have the ( coc)4 blade crossbow x-mag broadheads & it has 8 different cutting surfaces and it flys true to field point and they paint the forest red and the deer don’t go far but they are a one trick pony cause after you shoot a deer you will usually damage broadhead so I want to go to fixed blade & the Simmons stand out to me !

It looked like your shot was a touch back. I have shot deer with nearly the same head. Mine are cutthroats but a very similar design single bevel. When you tuck the arrow up behind the leg more it hits lots of veins, lung in a better spot, and sometimes heart. with that type of shot there is much more liquid to come out without guts plugging the hole up. I only have 1 deer with the cutthroat but 5 with the montec g5. The montec also gets a bad rap for bad blood trails but all of the ones I have shot with the Montec died in sight and left a very easy to follow blood trail. Small hole in and small hole out but high in, low out right behind the leg.

Hi Jeff, This deer barely bleeds. Shouldn’t such a deer be eaten? The Bible tells us that we can not eat meat with blood.
    Please read:
【Acts15:29】You are to abstain from food sacrificed to idols, from blood, from the meat of strangled animals and from sexual immorality. You will do well to avoid these things.Farewell.
In order to fear God and obey God's will, I suggest that everyone use wide broadheads for hunting so that the animals can be fully bled.

The animal has been dead for some time and the blood has coagulated inside the body. In this case, even if it is dissected, there will be no blood. This is why God says in the Bible not to eat strangled animals.
