I do want one. Not fast or powerful by any stretch, the brakes are apparently pretty terrible and the speed wobble once you get up to 80kph (50mph), but they are practically unbreakable.
Tough as nails too! You can run these things with no oil, and they'll keep running lol! Had a friend with a Chinese 125cc 4 wheeler, it practically was the copy of this engine, and he abused the thing and let it run out of oil, that motor was still running after the frame broke! EVEN THE CLONE ENGINES ARE GOOD!
I was a kid and my first bike was one of these back in the 60's. Tops out at 20 mph? Sounds like you're in low range. I used to change the high/low range by shutting the engine off, put the bike on the center stand to get the back wheel off the ground, slowly spin the back wheel while moving the lever from "L" to "H" or from "H" to "L". In high range, you should get around 50 mph. Mine was red, too! They're lots of fun, and in low range it would probably climb a tree if it could get traction!
im way late on finding your channel...but im loving it....these little trail 90s and even the 50s and 70s are going for crazy money...lots of us are looking for them....im still playing catch up on your videos...but man super fun stuff you guys do!!
Joe is the man. Experience like that is really hard to find and when you do most arent super enthusiastic about sharing the knowledge. Yet most are up to their ears in work because so few can work on them.
Carb Cleaning Tip of the day: #1. Berryman’s Carb Dip , comes in gallon paint can w basket inside to contain parts. Just be careful, if you leave the parts in the solution and forget about it.....Forgettaboutit! It will literally eat and I mean eat the entire carcass of the carb!!!! But under normal soak times this stuff is amazing!! #2. If you don’t have access to Berryman’s, get an old pot..... NOT YOUR WIFE’s NEW POTS YOU GOT HER FOR CHRISTMAS!!! Get an OLD pot and mix up solution 50/50 of lemon juice ($1 at.... well the $1 Store) and Pinesol ($1 at.....well the $1 Store). Take carb completely apart , remove any rubber or plastic parts and put them aside to clean with an OLD toothbrush.....NOT your Wife’s Toothbrush! But place the plastic parts and rubber parts aside and put remaining parts, jets, springs, and body of carb into the 50/50 solution and bring to boil in the OLD pot, be sure every 5 min to move the carb body into another side of the body so boiling splutters into all nooks and cranny’s if carb! Immediately after bringing to a boil for approx 15 min, allow to cool slightly and then IMMEDIATELY submerge parts into hot tap water so there isn’t a shock to the parts temp wise and once cool slosh around, blow out all parts w air and then I use a healthy dose of WD40 to displace water.... cause after all WD in WD40 stands for “Water Displacement”! Then blow everything out w compressed air again. Reassemble and get to get’n!! I’ve cleaned around 25-30 carbs this way and works EVERYTIME! Stay safe and shiny side up!!
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. That was the first motorcycle I ever rode. It was my Grampa's which he hung off the back of his motorhome on a tilting rack, back before those were thing (his design and craftsmanship in the 70's).
old memories, my first bike was a CT-90. picked it up for $60, didn't run-missing side covers-wiring all pulled apart. Late 70s(1979 I think)so I was about 15, bike was '68 or '69. Took me a couple days to get the wiring all sorted out then had to do the carb cleaning. You looked like I did when it finally fired up and ran. couldn't wipe the smile off my face without a belt sander! LOL
We had two for pit bikes back in late 60s early 70s...my brother and I worked on them when I was 11 and he was 9..cracked me up as you tried starting it ...these old trail 90s were everywhere back then
This takes me back to 1978. Bought a CT90 off an old school friend for the princely sum of $80 running and still registered. Got my learners permit and it was my sole mode of transport from then until I bought my first car in 79. Back then fuel was under 20c a litre here in Australia and that CT cost me about $3.00 a week to run.
Spent 5 years on a ct110 delivering mail in Australia. Looked just like that but didnt take a battery. It would wheelie with the help of a full load of packages haha. Was a bulletproof little bike that i put through hell and it never let me down. Keep up the great videos cheers mate
I know what you mean. I proved I was an idiot in the middle of Pit Street. Hit the throttle, accidentally chucked a wheel stand and was picking up mail for half hour.
Oh man! I haven't laughed so much at a video in a while. I love that you got that running. I saw the first part too. MY favorite part. "I'm getting pulled over, but not for speeding!" That was great. And then blowing through the remnant snow banks at the end. Killin' me!!!! LOL!
Your video has maybe inspired me to pull my moms old trail 90 out of her basement and get it going. Cool video Sean and the one before it at the barn. I'd love to own some of the bikes and vehicles that guy had.
Man that brings back memories had one of those back in the day that was one cool bike I was 13 years old and that thing was likely the greatest trail bike ever which was very cool now I’m a Harley guy I still love all motorcycles, good
Me and a buddy had one of these in 1972 and 73. We rode it everywhere and since we did not have a license or registration we used the power lines as our highway. Loved that bike and had a lot of fun with it. Ours was blue.
Brief synopsis of this vid- motorcycle shop owner charges 6v battery with 12v charger, takes apart a filthy carb, calls needle valve a jet. Satisfied he can see through main jet puts filthy carb back together. Shocked and frustrated it does not run. Blames it on kick starter and wishes the tiny 50 year old bike had an electric start. I made it to 7:29, cannot go on. Mustie1 or whoever to the rescue.
I have to admit Chris, you are 100% correct. Why the hell he didn't do everything you SHOULD do the first time around is beyond me. I got to right around 8:00 before I had to stop.
I have rebuilt MANY MANY MANY carbs and the first thing I do is take pics of everything before I disassemble the carb, when I remove a screw I take pics and bag everything. Once I remove all plastic parts I then take all the metal parts of the carb including the body of the carb and I simmer on the stove (yes I have a dedicated pot I picked up from the thrift store and an old crockpot) all the metal parts in a bath of 50/50 mix of lemons juice and pine cleaner. I bring this concoction to a slight boil then remove then back on and off each time the 50/50 mix boils back and forth about 10-15 times so the bubbling mix goes in and out of the carb body ports and jets! Then after 10-15 minutes of this process I let it cool then rinse THOROUGHLY several times in cool fresh water then remove all the metal parts and spray them, including the carb body, with WD40 to displace water and blow out w air! Then a 5-10 min bath in a jewelry ultrasonic cleaner ($25-30 on amazon) In a bath of same 50/50 mix mentioned above then rinse parts include the float that was in ultrasonic cleaner then thoroughly blow everything out w air spray everything w WD40again then blow out w air again and reassemble making sure you inspect jets for any blockage during assemble! I’ve never had to remove and repeat this process again after doing this process exactly as I mentioned above! Every carb I’ve cleaned this way has ran perfectly when reinstalled in the bike. Be sure to count how many turns IN the jets go before backing them out of the carb when disassembling they carb so you can install the jets in the same adjustment level when reassembling they carb. If you do this then the carb should need only minimal adjustment to idle and air mixture screw when doing your final turn to carb. Yes it’s a process, yes it might sound repetitive however you can follow this old school method and do the reassembly and reinstall once or you can shortcut it and do the remove, clean, reinstall over and over or follow this old school method once and get back to enjoying the bike! Try it out @SRK and then you won’t have to pay someone else to do this!
Had a CT 90 and a CT 110 and loved them! Important to note: only the trail 90 has the low/ high gears. Trail 110 looks identical but does NOT have low gears 😒 I live in Duluth, MN and ride I my trail 90 all year round! Great in the snow. So, rock that $#!T brother!! God bless the lot of us!
Those C-series Honda motors are bullet proof. Overhead camshaft too. I once fired up a C50 that had been sat outside for at least 3 years and it started after a couple of kicks on the fuel and oil that were in it. True story. Blessings.
We used to have a honda trail 70 which my dad bought for my sister and I. We rode it all around the whole neighborhood as we had dirt roads behind the houses. I remember you had to cut the gas off on that one too. Ty for the video!
Man the farm I worked on growing up had 3 of these. Talk about a great all purpose bike plus they took a beating and still kept going. Thanks for the short trip down memory lane
When I was a kid on the family farm up in Manitoba we had six of these that we kids used as transportation around the farm. We started riding them once we were big enough to operate all the controls. In my case that was the year of my 7th birthday. The farm mostly grew wheat, 60,000 acres of it. It was not and is not a small farm, (my cousin's kids run it now and I think it's doubled in size) so these Trail 90s (and a pair of Mini Trails) were perfect for getting to any part of the farm in under an hour, bring guys in the field parts, lunch, water, etc. Good times!
great bike guys, love to see y'all do more with it. keep it around the shop as like a running errands type vehicle. if ya need to go get oil, gas, the mail, etc. the bike would be great for something like that.
Sean, now you know in the future when you buy another “barn find” That you really should take the carb all the way apart, and FULLY CLEAN IT, especially when you can smell the “bad gas” in the tank, lol. I’ll tell ya what, when everything is set-up correctly on those old Honda’s their damn near indestructible, I had 1 when I was 12 yrs old , I had 5 summers o fun on that damn thing...then I traded it for a down-payment on my first car, lol. Thanks for “sharing” your adventure, it brought some great memories for me !
So with the carb so full of shit as that, I think we can safely deduce that that annoying hoarder guy you bought it off was equally full of shit when he said he'd ridden it recently... Amirite?
These things are pretty badass though. Suoer fun and easy to work on. This was one of the first bikes i ever took apart. Taught myself about carbs with it.
i lost it when the bike went by with someone running / pushing it lol. then ur riding it home with ur legs sticking out like bad ears lol. then top speed twenty mph... when i first rode my mc 20mph felt like i was flying. i too had a line of cars behind me hahaha. i just pulled over every now and then to let them by. i truly enjoy ur vids. god bless.
Honda CT90 Trail. 6v battery. No clutch lever... centrifugal clutch... just let off the gas, shift, and back to it. 4 gears. The battery manages the power running through the electrical system, so if you run them with a bad or dead battery you'll often start blowing bulbs :) They still use these bikes in Australia (new ones are 12v) to deliver the mail and are nick named postie bikes. Milk crate on the back is almost mandatory :) If everything is dialed in right max speed is about 45ish, downhill and sounds like a sewing machine. The good ones have a high and low sub-transmission you flip with a lever. CT90 & CT110 forum here www.tapatalk.com/groups/hondatrailcts/index.php You can buy parts here dratv.com/ I have a 1986 CT110 I've worked on over the years.
Instead of screwing around you should have cleaned the carb properly the first time. From a retired Honda mechanic. Would have saved you a ton of time and effort.
Funny I learned to ride a motorcycle on the Honda Trail 110. It looked exactly like that and I believe it was a 1981. I’ve owned 11 motorcycles since then and wind is the best kind of therapy
That was a fabulous video all those old motorcycles and they are very expensive but to walk away with that little Trail 90 everybody should have one of those
LMFAO 5:30 its a RUN start!!! bahaha i used to do this on my old ass pocket bike ... well i had a hill i would glide down while tryin to kick it on bahaha so good ty for the laugh !!
These bikes are iconic, Honda cub, c100, c70, c90... I owned the first cub to be imported into UK back in the very early 60s. My mum went everywhere with it with me on the back from the age of 3, had special little food rests made... I have owned about 20 over the years, don't have one at the moment, thinking of trading my Harley in for one, every true biker has owned one!
I love it! I Learnt how to ride on a honda 70. Back in like 1970, the first 4 speed with a clutch, we had a blast with it, running from the police. They finely caught me on it,, 5 tickes, and spent 2weeks in juvenile jail😂
My dad has one fully complete!!!!! My kids learned how to ride on it, it would do all of 55 mph I'm 6,2 200pounds awesome find!!!! Got it in yr 2000 and it still rides
So many memories. I can't begin to tell you how many hours I spent on one that could be a twin to your bike. Put it into the low side and as long as it can get traction it'll climb a telephone pole.
You can get a 1 gallon bucket of Gunk carb/parts cleaner from any auto parts store. It has a dip basket in it. Just remove all the rubber from the carb then let it sit in the tank over night. Remove from the bucket then use spray jet cleaner to finish. Work very well on those old carbs.
Any old bike that will start but dies when you give it gas is a clogged jet. They can clog in less than a year if the fuel goes bad. Nice ride, I like farm bikes! I bought a trashed TW200 and brought it back one time and it was some of the most fun I ever had on 2 wheels.
Its the points or fuel. They flood easy so always turn off fuel. i used to pull the plug out and burn off the gas in the cylinder with a match, i was 5 or 6. lol ...Honda Super Cub is still the best made motorcycle in the world. Here in Canada right now they are selling for almost 2 grand. And they are mostly worse shape than that one. I had a collection of 42 harleys and have been riding for 61 years. Love your channel and your humor, you and I have the same craziness but big heart. I have only started watching you but I am binge watching you like Breaking Bad. LOL
For the money you want the Honda trail 70. I owned one probably a few years newer than the one you found maybe 80ish I swear by it. When I out grew my Honda 50 from probably years 5-8 I got the newer trail 70 and if you like that old pos 90 no offense the you would love the trail 70 it was street legal really cool we had a pair of them and my dad and his friend rode them a few times your video brought back a lot of awesome memories:)
When I was living in South America they love these small bikes 😂 you hear them all day and night long...there's a mechanic shop every corner so yea... That noise brings me memories ✌️
I just picked up my own barn find (it was my in my Dad’s garage the last 20 years). I had a friend from church fix it up and get it going and a year later I did it like Sean...I’m driving it home (20+miles) A 1972 Suzuki 100cc off-road/ on road. And like his videos it didn’t go quite as planned! I think it’s more for off-road and not meant to be on the road!
Little tip, those old honda 90s dont like having the air box off, they really don't like to start cold without that back pressure. It's one of very few old small bikes i couldn't tune or mess around with. The later cub 90 was better, i fitted a snorkal to it and dubbed it the honda cubmarine as it was used for offroading
Yeppers. I told ya. Thats a cool little bike. I fix so many carb issues every spring here in Michigan. I saw where your located and that would be a cool ride over there. See if i can't put that on my list this summer. P. S. If i were you guys I'd do a mid level resto on that bad boy. Get a lot more $ when you sell it. Cool. Vid. Mr Lord.
get yourself a ultrasonic cleaner, and some Berryman carb cleaner bucket(1-5 gal), disassemble carburetors, place the parts in the ultrasonic cleaner after scraping some of the major junk off. "cook" the parts in the cleaner about a hour.. profit. 4 less hours work, and squeaky clean carbs.
Great find. Gotta love those old bike. My fist bike was the Honda trail 70 I bet I put 500,000 miles on that bike. I wish I still had it. I am looking to buy one when I find a good deal. And or the little monkey bike from 1970’s
You need a welders tip cleaner set...or get a cheap ultra sonic cleaner for those jets. Love those old honda we found a trx200 4 wheeler 35years old for my daughter runs like a top now.
I learned to ride motorcycles on a Trail 90 up in Alaska as a little kid. We'd take one with us when we'd go salmon fishing in Alaska to the Copper River near Chitna. Dad was giving mom a ride up a hill, hit a mud puddle and hit the gas to get through, when he hit dry ground the front wheel came up and mom went off the back into a mud puddle. She was mad at him the whole trip. Great little bike, though.
I have a 1978, 1973, and a 1966 honda trail 90. Long live the original dual sport motorcycle!
These are our postal service bikes here in aus , hugely common , pretty much everyone has a good memory of riding a postie bike here ahah
You can still buy them in oz ,brand new.
I do want one. Not fast or powerful by any stretch, the brakes are apparently pretty terrible and the speed wobble once you get up to 80kph (50mph), but they are practically unbreakable.
The postie ones are 110cc, so you have to hang on tight to avoid falling off the back :)
Tough as nails too! You can run these things with no oil, and they'll keep running lol! Had a friend with a Chinese 125cc 4 wheeler, it practically was the copy of this engine, and he abused the thing and let it run out of oil, that motor was still running after the frame broke! EVEN THE CLONE ENGINES ARE GOOD!
they are similar here in aus we use the CT 110, you can pick them up at auction for around $1k
Some great nostalgia about how simple bikes used to be. Joe's a cool dude. Loved your ride home. Great cop!

Trail 90's for the win mate! Much love from Australia and as an owner of a Trail 90 and a CT110 I am happy to say they are great little bikes!
ex postie bike?
Probably one of the best episodes I’ve seen. Love your videos and you guys seem really cool.

You also road it back to the shop in low range instead of high range

As far as bikes go that's a third world Bagger

@Ron T Me do u good time, GI!

UNLEASH the POWER !!!! How could anyone not love the lil Honda trail blazer. ps it's almost always the carb, points or condenser.

Did you have it in low gear the entire ride back to your place? Seems like it should have gone a little faster in high gear
I've had a CT110 for years, great fun bike but also a workhorse on the farm, these things are bullet proof mechanically and will go almost anywhere.
Popo was really cool and very understanding...I wish they all were like that
These things are pretty badass though. Suoer fun and easy to work on. This was one of the first bikes i ever took apart. Taught myself about carbs with it.
My first bike was a Honda cb 70 and I miss it to this day. Those sounds brought it all back :)
I see it as a lesson learned. You now know to just take it apart and do it right. Great video and look forward to the next!
i lost it when the bike went by with someone running / pushing it lol. then ur riding it home with ur legs sticking out like bad ears lol. then top speed twenty mph... when i first rode my mc 20mph felt like i was flying. i too had a line of cars behind me hahaha. i just pulled over every now and then to let them by. i truly enjoy ur vids. god bless.
Liking your content! Sad that your shop is closed. I wish you good luck on your adventures wherever you go.
Man one other thing I love the way you sweet talk to a cop that was epic good work man
These are such cool little bikes. I have a 1970 CL70 myself. It was my first bike and I've had it since I was 12
Some of the easiest bikes to work on! I have a 1970 Trail 90 with a Honda 125m 3 wheeler engine, electric start. Yeah buddy!
CT90 & CT110 forum here www.tapatalk.com/groups/hondatrailcts/index.php
You can buy parts here dratv.com/
I have a 1986 CT110 I've worked on over the years.
My brother and I had one of these In the mid 1970's, one tough little bike, we used on our dairy farm .
Instead of screwing around you should have cleaned the carb properly the first time. From a retired Honda mechanic. Would have saved you a ton of time and effort.
ultrasonic cleaner
hr 777 and if you don’t have one
@@akllls617 buy one
As a mechanic Sean makes a good business owner.
You also need a rebuild kit with gaskets, diaphragms, sprigs etc. Sean is obviously no mechanic, but he does a good job of selling bikes.
Funny I learned to ride a motorcycle on the Honda Trail 110. It looked exactly like that and I believe it was a 1981. I’ve owned 11 motorcycles since then and wind is the best kind of therapy
opichocal
The wind is the best therapy. So true!!
Hey skydivers! A canoe or kayak proves the same. And naked bikes are better. More wind.
Hey! Would you mind if I use the police part in my compilation? Credited of course. Thanks
thats cool!
@@BikesandBeards Thanks mate :)
@@BikesandBeards Here it is finished compilation, thanks again for letting me use it :) ua-cam.com/video/Q-_MgKw3jX0/v-deo.html
I guess it is quite off topic but do anyone know of a good place to stream new tv shows online?
@Zayden Colt Flixportal :)
The music, the 20mph and the shot of the traffic behind was hilarious man!
That was a fabulous video all those old motorcycles and they are very expensive but to walk away with that little Trail 90 everybody should have one of those
Man I love joe he’s such a chill dude😭
Shoutout to Joe the mechanic. He seems like a fantastic mechanic and modest too.
12:29 Classic mechanic "ya think?" look lol
LMFAO 5:30 its a RUN start!!! bahaha i used to do this on my old ass pocket bike ... well i had a hill i would glide down while tryin to kick it on bahaha so good ty for the laugh !!
Joe looks just like Al Delvecchio from Happy Days! I was waiting for him to say "Yep, yep, yep."😁
Ultrasonic cleaner , drop
Carb in and reassemble it.
SEAN:
We have REALLY nice police officers here.
*Californians have left the chat*
So many memories. I can't begin to tell you how many hours I spent on one that could be a twin to your bike. Put it into the low side and as long as it can get traction it'll climb a telephone pole.
I own a 1963 trail 55 and it’s such a cool little thing to play around on
You can get a 1 gallon bucket of Gunk carb/parts cleaner from any auto parts store. It has a dip basket in it. Just remove all the rubber from the carb then let it sit in the tank over night. Remove from the bucket then use spray jet cleaner to finish. Work very well on those old carbs.
That Officer was super cool! He seemed very Nice!
Paparo Cycle Shop is one of the best independent shops we have in Lancaster county.
Any old bike that will start but dies when you give it gas is a clogged jet. They can clog in less than a year if the fuel goes bad. Nice ride, I like farm bikes! I bought a trashed TW200 and brought it back one time and it was some of the most fun I ever had on 2 wheels.
Sweet video I have a 1971 trail 90 myself they’re great bikes for light off-road stuff or putting around town (as long as you got your air box on lol)
LOL
Me: Mom can we have vinwiky at home?
Mom: We already have vinwiky at home
Vinwiky at home: 0:06
For the money you want the Honda trail 70. I owned one probably a few years newer than the one you found maybe 80ish I swear by it. When I out grew my Honda 50 from probably years 5-8 I got the newer trail 70 and if you like that old pos 90 no offense the you would love the trail 70 it was street legal really cool we had a pair of them and my dad and his friend rode them a few times your video brought back a lot of awesome memories:)
When I was living in South America they love these small bikes 😂 you hear them all day and night long...there's a mechanic shop every corner so yea... That noise brings me memories ✌️
another fantastic video guys!!!
Great little bike, this episode put a smile on my face, great work guys
Hello man, would it be okay if I feature your video in a moto compilation? Full credits in the video and description.
Dirt bike lunatic beat you there about 2 years ago😂
Best video you've done ever just found it!
I had a 90 cc supercub witch is the same bike basicly. And when you work on it make it lighter faster. You can change the look of it in so many ways.
That was the first motorcycle I ever rode. Was 12 years old. Had a blast!
This video helped me fix my dirt bike 14:07 😂 I didn’t think the air filter mattered much 😂
Keep the bike! Would make a great shop bike for running errands to the grocery store (wicker basket on back) 😁👍
You also had it in low range and that why you could take off in third gear with a 35 mph max speed.
I had a honda 55 was alot of fun, still have a a rifle holder that mounts to the front forks steel frame with a leather sheath
Just started watching from Scotland guys love it.
Yeppers.
That goofy jacket gets me everytime ...god bless yall
That was hilarious watching your 6'+ frame ride that bike back to the shop. One of a kind bro lol one of a kind
Props to that cop who was so cool 👍👍👍
I had the street version, the CB 70 in the early 1970s that was a blast. I rode it everywhere except on the Interstate.
Great find. Gotta love those old bike. My fist bike was the Honda trail 70 I bet I put 500,000 miles on that bike. I wish I still had it. I am looking to buy one when I find a good deal. And or the little monkey bike from 1970’s
My dad bought one for me to ride when I was 13 - 14 years old. So fun to ride!
this is funny. just got done watching Mustie1 going through his trail 90 to get it running.
that's awesome. That was my very first bike when I was 14 in 1982. mine didn't have the grey cover
Great 👍🏼 video Sean !
