Thinking about getting rid of my 4x12 but wanted some validation. I thought I was going to hear this and say, " Yeah, stupid to get rid of the 4x12" BUT, this video validates what I feel about my 4x12. It sounds like a freaking buzz saw. The 2x12 may lack a little in the lower mid scoop but its clarity is so precise. I think it is the winner.
Good video. Ultimately, both sound really good in the mix. Any difference you would hear when you only switch the cabs can be fine tuned with EQ and tone controls. I think a lot of people miss that idea in cab comparison videos. When you notice one cab has more bottom, you can add a little more with the amp. I bet you could get these two sounding exactly the same in that mix and no one would be able to tell which is which. It would be cool to see the same comparison with just the guitar.
Thank you for your comment! I also mix, so I've experienced that it sounds almost the same if adjusted. I feel the individuality of the cabinet when I play it loud in the studio or live.
I play through an old Digitec Rp7 Valve, Bugera t50 Infinium and 80s Mesa Boogie Half Back 2x12 vertical cabinet. That Mesa cabinet is PERFECT. I have run a couple fender amps through it and it is by far the most fun cabinet out there. Mesa Boogie are at the top of my list.
I think the 2x12 sounded better. Bolder overall, more mids, more definition, and not so round. 2x12 has a sound that would be much more complimentary to bass and drums in an actual live or recording setting.
wonderful tone and great playing! I was trying to find a different cab to replace my marshall 1960a(using jvm410hjs head, might get a mark V in the future), but your playing and tone really got me!
Thanks for your comment! I use a 4X12 Rectifier Standard Slant Cabinet. However, the model has a straight appearance and only the speakers are slanted. It is currently out of production.
@takemebackchige1259 Thanks for the reply. There's someone nearby selling the same 4x12 so I think I will get it. Your sound is excellent 👌🏻. The 4x12 sounds slightly bigger than 2x12. Both very good 👍🏻
@@Guitarest17 Thanks for your comment! The placement of the microphone has a lot to do with it. The sound is quite different between the center and the edges.
@@takemebackchige1259 In this video 4x12 wins. But I´ve heard comparatives between 2x12 rectifier cab vs 4x12 rectifier cab, and in those rectifier 2x12 wins. What cab models have you used?
The 4x12 will have 8ohm v30s and the 2x12 will have 16ohm v30s. Some people say that the impedance doesn't matter, but 16ohm speakers are brighter than 8ohm of the same type. This close micing displays it well, for v30s. I've experienced this myself, but this video is a good deep dive that includes speaker impedance. ua-cam.com/video/ZAUpWQWlTe0/v-deo.html
@@rubenalonsoviguerassalazar1539 Thanks for your comment! I think the 2x12 cabinet I used is a little older model. I hide the logo with tape, but it has a metal panel that says "Mesa / Boogie".

@@takemebackchige1259 I like the mic boom placement over the MESA. lol
The 2x12 is clearer but not as big or complex sounding. Mesa 4x12 is kind of the ultimate chug.
I think the same as I hear from this demo!
Thanks for your comment! 4X12 makes a metal sound! I also like the 2x12 sound!
0:38 4x12
1:56 2x12
2x12 sounds brittle and harsh to me

One more vote for the 4x12 here. Have a great day!
2x12 has much more mids .4X12 is way fuller and balanced
Thank you for your comment! I feel that way too!

Damn dude thats sound GREAT
Wow! I hear a huge difference! Did you use only 1 mic? How does it feel for your ears? Thanks
Thanks for your comment! The only microphone is an SM57. When I hear the sound with my ears, I feel that the 4X12 has more bass.
@@takemebackchige1259 Fantastic
No Mids! More Gain! Slayaaaa
The 4x12 is classic Mesa & the 2x12 sounds like .. classic Mesa! They’re both killer it’s just the 4z12 sounds more .. powerful.

Thanks for your comment! I'm glad! The JVM and 1960A are good! Choosing a cabinet or amp is fun!
awesome playing. Would love me some 4x12 ;)
Thanks for your comment!
Which is the exact model of 4x12 cab? It sounds awesome.
Thanks for your comment! This model seems to be discontinued. Probably the name is "4x12 Rectifier Oversize Standard Straight Slant Baffle Cabinet".
Great playing!
Thank you!
Which Mesa 4x12 do u have?

Is that 2x12 loaded with 16 ohm v30s?
Thanks for your comment! I have two 16 ohm speakers!
Def more hiss in the top end of the 2x12 around 6-8khz that I really don't like
Thanks for your comment! There is a jarring peak. It may be improved by the position of the microphone.
@@takemebackchige1259 maybe, I definitely hear it in other video examples too though!
@@takemebackchige1259 It can also be the fact that Mesa uses their own voiced V30s but mic placement also does a lot.

2x12 ---- these Mesa 16 Ohms have far more bite and clarity ! 8 Ohm Mesa V30 sound fat and muffled.
Thanks for your comment! Ohm may also have an effect!
Thank God Mesa was used.
Thank you!
Great test. For me 4x12 a little better. Whats a guitar ?
Thanks for your comment! The guitar I'm using is a Fujigen TL shape made in Japan.

It would be great if we could hear the sounds without the backing track.

You know that Mesa uses different v30's and other impedance of the speaker?
Thanks for your comment! It seems that there are various types. I took off the back panel when I bought it, but I forgot the details!
2x12 much tighter. Tht is all I use. I have never liked 4x12. I do not care what anyone else thinks or says.
Thanks for your comment! 2X12 also sounds good! I mostly use 2X12 considering the weight of carrying.
4x12 way bigger and easier to mix
Thanks for your comment! I hope it helps you in the comparison!
