You said it all. I started in 1975 for $6.01 hr. I lived in the brown box for 34yrs and 83 days. I’ve been retired almost 15 yrs now. God gave me the best job in history for me in Las Vegas.
100% agree with you. I’m 65, just finished another week over 55 hours. Great pay, great benefits! I don’t know how the married people do it. When do the they see their families! Lots of 9pm punch outs. My kids are grown, nobody needs my attention when I get home. It’s something to think about.
I think it depends on your area / how fast you walk. Got guys in my area who take 10-11 hours daily intentionally sucking time for extra pay and got other guys who work 8-9 hours all year even during peak season and have worked every route we have. That being said, I’m in Ohio. So probably depends on 1.) the person and 2.) the area you live in and 3.) the route but again, my friend gets home every day around 4-5 having started at 9am and has done every route they have. All told, probs ask a lot of the guys who work in the area I guess. Lol
Like my momma always said, I should’ve stayed in school. But as far as blue collar work goes, it’s better than most. Great benefits, great pay, good pension, and you can go 9.5, so you’ll be home with the fam bam after a 10hr shift a minimum of 3 days of the work week.
I worked as a driver in Stockholm, Sweden 2000-2006. UPS is a good school that teach what hard work is. When/if you quit the next job is a walk in the park.
Started as a seasonal helper this peak season I'm getting constant compliments on my work. One supervisor even said "where have you been all our life" I'm hoping to be offered a position after seasonal is over.
1 year preloader here at local 322. Took this job as a side gig but also work at FT career. Waiting till my turn to drive come up. If it wasnt for the union UPS wouldnt be a good place to work. SUBBED
Currently on my DOT 30 watching this. I work for UPS and I can tell you its 105 here today hot and muggy weather is a mother F'er sometimes especially with no AC in the trucks food for thought
I have a driving test with UPS on the first. I'm nervous about the time away from my family but I am doing this for them because of the insurance and other benefits the UPS provides compared to working for myself and paying for everything etc.
Maybe you can talk about UPS Management Harassment? You talked about the good side a lot, very little about negative or toxic work environment that goes behind close doors.
Even the trucks that UPS buys for the neighborhood deliveries, although they look like tin bread trucks, but the forward visibility is splendid and the location they position the wipers, is also good since they come down to sweep the rain water out of your sight line. I am 63 and I remember just about every step van on the road had to be manually shifted. And nowdays, they are all automatics. I did see that a man did a POV video of a route and from what I hear that sometimes the feds don't want people filming their truck routes which to me banning people from filming ride alongs is stupid. I myself would love to see a ride along with the camera riding at the same height as you but on the passenger side of the truck. Since I also love seeing wipers that hang from the top operate, I wouldn't mind seeing them run on video.
I feel like you should speak more on the part time and what it took to become a driver , maybe go into the driver school, the time you spent into the building etc.
Thanks for the video! I’m currently a delivery driver for an Amazon contractor but the benefits aren’t that good and the pay is underwhelming. I have my road test on Wednesday! I’ll be back with a update ❤️
What’s up bro ‘ saw your video on utube right after that I applied ups delivery driver position n got selected did already mine road test waiting for mine orientation next weak ‘ thanks for your information
Great video it is long hours, stressful and highly demanding but totally worth it at the end. I started as a PVD then after the season they offer me a job as a driver then was working as a 22.4. Had some paperwork issues but got it all fix and hoping to make my way back into UPS, this peak season again and this time stay for good 🙏🤞
Since we work from 9am til who the hell knows, you will miss your kids growing up like I am. You'll miss all the evening time and your kids teachers will think your wife is a single parent. It will be 6pm, dark and a snowstorm and you still have 40 stops left, meanwhile everybody else is at home, the whole family sitting together having dinner while you're standing at the door waiting for a signature. Heartbreaking and the worst part of the job for me.
I got a job offer for a package driver flex permanent position, but I guess I’m nervous that it’s not an actual driver position or will not turn into one. What are your thoughts on this?
I I’ve been with the company for 18 years as a part-timer so when I retire, they will give me a 18 year part-time pension and I just recently became a driver and in three years, I will be going to top scale and make $49 dollars an hour, and they will also give me a full-time pension when I retire so that will be two pension that I have for working for one company so despite some of the things I don’t like in the end, I win
I work for FedEx Express as a part time courier and I have mad respect for UPS, you guys work your asses off! Do you know if the package handlers/ warehouse workers get benefits and insurance as well? Looking to go full time and UPS in my area never hires drivers off the street, but need to make sure I would still have benefits/ insurance in the warehouse waiting for a driver spot. Great content man, thanks!
I'm new here and the questions I have are...what's the policy for bad weather? Do they expect you to still travel in ice, snow storms & flooding? Is all trucks manual? Do you pay for gas or do you get a company card?
Thank you Randy. I am applying for UPS in Canada, I am still waiting for their call, I have few questions please, 1) is it the same concerning the health and pension compared to USA? 2) How long usually it takes to start working after training? I appreciate if you let me know and thank you.
Hey Randy, thanks for the videos. I'm interested in becoming a driver for UPS but I know most of the time it is difficult or at least takes a little while to get to that position. There is currently a position open in my town for a seasonal UPS driver. I have a decent full-time job at the moment, but I'm not sure I want to stay here long term. So, my question is: what are the odds of a seasonal driver job turning into a more full-time gig? Do you ever see it happen where someone gets hired seasonally and then gets full time regular from that? Or is it more likely that the seasonal job ends and that's it? Would love to get some feedback on this. Keep up the videos, man. Already liked and subscribed.
More likely that the season job just ends. Considering they hire less drivers off the street and more from within that want to become a driver. You could get lucky though
Its funny same thing with me, seasonal job is available were im at and the pay for a temp is 23hr for my local listing which is more than what I make working now. Its vary temping to try but yeah id be worried on not having a job a few months down the line.
Just do your best man run those routes get off as early as possible and you’ll be first on the list when a spot opens up they’ll ask you to come back to qualify as a driver
Randy didn’t mention how management treats their employees, I was a package car driver 17 years they treat you like shit, when I got transferred to tractor trailer it was a different company to work for, I was in heaven.
Hey Randy, thanks for all the vids. I have my road test this Friday. Any tips you got for the driving test. Also is a regular temporary driver a good way to start especially if I'm new?
How do I get into being a UPS driver. I’m currently a teacher with 2 advanced degrees and not even close to the pay and benefits you have. I have my CDL and thinking about switching to that type of work.
Go work in the hub over the summer. It will get you acclimated to the work. Hub workers get the first dibs on driving jobs and they usually start hiring drivers in September.
Getting a UPS driving job right away without working in the warehouse for a long time is like winning the lottery. It can be done and it does happen, but nobody can tell you how to do it. Try, apply, and if it’s meant to be it will happen.
I’m a usps carrier 4 years in total still at only a 50k base salary and still got 8 more years to get to top pay at only $36 per hour….thought I was getting into a career. I picked the wrong one….
We live a world where pay and benefits are more important than family time. Imagine getting home at 8-10pm every night for 25 years. Not being able to raise your kids or have dinner with your family. Not spending Christmas eve with them. Giving up the most precious gift of life for benefits. Sheesh. Tough job.
hey, was about to consider diving into the field of becoming a driver but im wondering do they still force overtime with the new contract that just passed this august? I've come to accept that i think i want to go this path as long as they dont force ot on me.
How big loads a day u drive over there? Amount off stops , Im an ups and bring driver in sweden but im long distance driver between 5-600 kilometer a day 30-40 stops
Thinking about working for ups but wondering how it when it comes to taking days off. I take a lot of trips in a year. About 25 days off a year due to traveling and was wondering if ups would still allow me to do so. Not looking for PTO just looking to have those days off
I don't know how i landed on your video but i work for USPS and I'm Tractor Trailer Operator been here for 8 years and making less than you ( $37 per hour) but I must say that I don't work not even a quarter as hard as you do, first of all it's 2 different positions and secondly because all i do is usually around 3-4 stations/stops per day not like most delivery drivers who have close to 200 stops per day and i have about 3-4 hours of down time every single day and i just work 8 hours per day but we do have a lot of overtime if you want to work it. Your benefits are by far superior than what the cheap federal government provides for us . I pay around $400 a month for my medical, dental and vision but it's for a family of 4 which is still pretty cheap and we get to choose from an array of insurance companies, we have a good pension and 401k which the government matches, after 3 years of employment you get 4 weeks of vacation plus all the federal holidays off and paid for and we also get lifetime medical insurance after retirement. Anyway nice video and i tried applying at UPS years ago but i didn't want to have to start as a loader and then a delivery driver just to get to be a Tractor Trailer Driver. At USPS they hireTractorTrailerOperator's off the street. I'm happy where I'm at since I don't work anywhere near as hard as most people and BTW I'm also a 23 year Teamsters Union member and now I'm an APWU member it's great when there are Union jobs still around. The biggest plus for me as a Tractor Trailer Operator is that i do get to see and spend more time with my family.
What's good randy, question my area is hiring for seasonal drivers, how do I became a permanent driver? Any if would really be appreciated, thank you in advance
@@seedeebun I was a cover driver but after peak went back to the hub, had a list last week to be full time driver again / cover driver but working in the hub 2 years now has been dreadful. Trying to be patient and drive but it’s been hard
there was always a 9.5 rule that if you had so many days over that you could file a grievance to stay under and if they still worked you over that you got extra pay. but the politics behind it was a nightmare and then you only put a target on your back(never did that btw)
Hey man, I'm about to start my orientation as a full time UPS driver. Your videos have given me helpful insight into the job and what to expect, though some things may be different considering I'm North of the border. Quick question for you: how do you feel about playing music in the vehicle during your route? Is it something you do? Do you or would you find it an unnecessary distraction? I'm all for grabbing a truck putting on some tunes and making deliveries but haven't seen many people mention it. Let me know! Thanks! P.S. Once I get comfortable with the job obviously! Don't plan on that for a long while still but just a nagging question.
USP has lost some packages of mine I had six packages lost that I never got I didn't get back a refund eaither I got scam I can never seem to get in touch with them this very unprofessional 🤨🤨😑😑
My cons are starting my shift at 8:30 am I rather start earlier to get out early not having a set route I been a driver 5 years now and no set route always doing a different route every day driving a truck full of trash because the driver of that truck is a dirty guy theirs a lot more cons then pros that’s why I’m searching for a new job I’m only 35 years old and I think I can still look for something better
@TrulyTara86 great video man I’m a full time employee I wanted to get into ups but the hours they have for a package handler doesn’t work for me. Could I still apply even if the time isn’t good. Hoping they would work with me.
The hours are the only thing that sound bad to me. I’m at FedEx Ground for 4 years now, working like 40-45 hours a week, making like $50K a year. The pay and benefits sound pretty sweet at UPS, might make the switch someday
I’m at UPS inside the hub making the same/more part time… Can’t just switch right into UPS driving when you want, usually gotta work your way up to driving
Beside the pay and benefits..id say my customers are a positive. When you have your own route..the people will take care of you as good if not better than you take care of them.
@@kevlarcowboy9327typically drivers have to start in the warehouse 👍🏽 and you need 6 months seniority before you can sign up when they post for new drivers, which is only once or twice a year.
There’s a chance to get hired straight on as a driver in peak season oct-dec, but that heavily depends on the amount of current UPS employees in you’re area waiting for that same job - we’re union, we get the job first. And if you did get hired to drive for peak, know that with no seniority you might be laid off come new year, likely sent into the hub
Not where I’m at 👌🏼 they don’t even test to hire you let alone randoms…. The only time is if they can tell you’re acting sketchy or maybe if you crash the package car
Depends on the size of hub and driver turn over. I was part time for approximately 14 years before I went full time. I’m in a smaller center. Been full time 9 years now. Sing any full time bid sheet, you’ll get there.
Used to be a supervisor on the night side. I left because literally everyone that worked there including the drivers were miserable. Hats off tho those who stayed.

there was always a 9.5 rule that if you had so many days over that you could file a grievance to stay under and if they still worked you over that you got extra pay. but the politics behind it was a nightmare and then you only put a target on your back(never did that btw)
If you’re just starting it’s most likely a seasonal position. But regardless the job is very good.
Are new hires eligible for a pension plan?
The greatest con of ups is no AC
Love the videos man !
I’m going for my driving classes next week at ups
Run Forrest run
USP has lost some packages of mine I had six packages lost that I never got I didn't get back a refund eaither I got scam I can never seem to get in touch with them this very unprofessional 🤨🤨😑😑
My cons are starting my shift at 8:30 am I rather start earlier to get out early not having a set route I been a driver 5 years now and no set route always doing a different route every day driving a truck full of trash because the driver of that truck is a dirty guy theirs a lot more cons then pros that’s why I’m searching for a new job I’m only 35 years old and I think I can still look for something better
Go feeder
Hi Randy, thanks for the video. I have a question. Does the package handler get the same wage as the package driver after 4 years?
No
@@jordancollins5972 ooo thank you
what is the schedule like for a ups driver?
you didnt mention pto
@TrulyTara86 great video man I’m a full time employee I wanted to get into ups but the hours they have for a package handler doesn’t work for me. Could I still apply even if the time isn’t good. Hoping they would work with me.
They will not work with you
@@CherryB0mb333 thanks for the reply man.
Thank you very much
Coming out of high school what is the best way to become a driver
Start as a package handler. Not everyone can be hired off the streets as a driver, it’s rare.
Turn 21
@@CherryB0mb333 furthermore - get started in the hub asap, by the time you’re 21 you’ll have seniority and get into driving easier.
The hours are the only thing that sound bad to me. I’m at FedEx Ground for 4 years now, working like 40-45 hours a week, making like $50K a year. The pay and benefits sound pretty sweet at UPS, might make the switch someday
I’m at UPS inside the hub making the same/more part time…
Can’t just switch right into UPS driving when you want, usually gotta work your way up to driving
@@smack217making 50k part time?
At 45 hrs a week average throughout the whole year I end up over 100k.
1 day? Do it now if you're planning to. It's all about the seniority at ups
50k u waisting yo time…I can’t make more than that doing nothing all day…ups make double that on same amount of hours
Beside the pay and benefits..id say my customers are a positive. When you have your own route..the people will take care of you as good if not better than you take care of them.
Is there any way to contact UPS directly? Ive been trying to apply online but its telling me there no jobs in my State
Are you applying for driver or package handler?
@@smack217 RPCD, delivery driver
@@kevlarcowboy9327typically drivers have to start in the warehouse 👍🏽 and you need 6 months seniority before you can sign up when they post for new drivers, which is only once or twice a year.
There’s a chance to get hired straight on as a driver in peak season oct-dec, but that heavily depends on the amount of current UPS employees in you’re area waiting for that same job - we’re union, we get the job first.
And if you did get hired to drive for peak, know that with no seniority you might be laid off come new year, likely sent into the hub
@@smack217 how do i get into a union? Do i do that before or after i get hired?
Do you have AC in the cabin of your truck?
No
Not yet but it’ll happen eventually
We do not. The cab is not where we need relief from the heat. The cargo box is where it gets over 120 degrees.
Can you use a GPS as a driver?
Our handhelds have turn by turn directions now. You can also print a map of the route with all your stops laid out.
@@rtspec6.496 nice !
What’s ups real website?
What are the qualifications for UPS Local tractor-trailer drivers
The only thing I know you need is a truckers license
How much pension? Do another video
Hey randy does UPS do random drug test after you are hired on.
Not where I’m at 👌🏼 they don’t even test to hire you let alone randoms…. The only time is if they can tell you’re acting sketchy or maybe if you crash the package car
They do random drug tests in feeders but if you do have to test in package car the union buys you time to get clean.
Work is good and I understand making money. My number one rule is if you can't have a good work life balance don't do it.
There is no work/life balance as of now at UPS.
I really didnt enjoy my time at ups. I now drive for a class a moving job, way better.
What about benefits
I am on the hub now !!!!! Do you know how long can it take to become a driver ??????
Depends on the size of hub and driver turn over. I was part time for approximately 14 years before I went full time. I’m in a smaller center. Been full time 9 years now.
Sing any full time bid sheet, you’ll get there.
Thanks for the information!!!!! 🙏🏻
Used to be a supervisor on the night side. I left because literally everyone that worked there including the drivers were miserable.
Hats off tho those who stayed.
Is it hard to get hired at ups?
As a package handler? No. As a driver, more so.
Do you need a CDL license to become a driver?
No
Not for the package cars. For the Class A trucks, yes you do.
This man os FOINE 😂❤❤
Way more family friendly than being a correction officer. And you are making more money.
