Have a friend who buys cheap down gear and immediately washes them in Nikwax Down Wash then treats them with Nikwax Down Proof. Years ago he tried it with the Aegismax sleeping bag and loved the results. He did the same thing with a 'puffy jacket' and later with a down blanket from Costco with the similar results. Recently he told me he purchased the Walmart jacket and ran it through the same process and loves the outcome. Re readily admits he doesn't think the products are as good as premium products but he swears that they give you the best dollar value. He says the down wash cleans up the product and the down proof makes them water resistant (not necessarily water proof).

Polyamide (nylon) is not highly breathable. I didn't observe if Canada Goose has specific weaves or finishes to enhance breathability for natural perspiration, like mesh panels or ventilation zones for improved airflow and comfort.
I really try not to use a down jacket as a raincoat if at all possible. That said most modern outerwear is made with a dwr coating to help with light showers. Of the two jackets I would go with the Crofton any time.

The thing about CG though is that it’s not only functional, but it is also a designer brand. So there is a brand premium priced in.

as a chinese person who is practicing oral English, im wondering what is this man's accent cuz it sounds so special. I find some of American people speak in this way. for example in the first sentence of this video he speak 'down jacket' like there is some up and down in these two words.
ha! I tend to be more energic behind the camera so I happen to pronounce words with more emphasis and inconsistent tones. I am a lot more mellow in real life lol. I created Chinese subtitles in this video if that helps you out

As person who can only afford cheap things and did enjoy buy expensive things, I just tell people whatever makes you comfortable. Cheap / expensive just be grateful you have clothes. Lot of people don’t have what we have !!! Both nice though 🙏

The responsibility always lies with the client who sourced the manufacturer to produce the jacket according to their specifications and cost constraints.
