This is actually my FAVORITE movie. I have read the book and it's incredibly moving. There are some things different in the book from the movie. Most notably the fact that John was actually the boy closest with Father Bobby, although in the movie it appears that Shakes is his favorite. You should buy the book, it's absolutely worth it!

I can hardly listen to "Walk Like a Man" without crying now and I also cannot watch Kevin Bacon's movies because I want to strangle him! Nokes deserved a lot worse than what he got!

This was hell of a movie! I saw this a couple of days ago at school as I gotta admit it's a very well done movie with such amazing actors, great writting but it's very sad to know it happens in real life. I freaking love Kevin Bacon but damn, he was such a bastard in this movie and really scared the hell outta me (which demonstrates his amazing acting skills). Not to mention Brad Pitt and Dustin Hoffman who were amazing also ! I really recommend this movie!

I saw this movie last year during summer . It was about 3 a.m in the morning. Kevin Bacon scared the hell out of me , and I loved Brad Pitt and Robert de Niro .hat made this movie so brilliant to me was the fact that revenge seemed so natural, so alright.

It was sad but very well done movie - so emotional and touching. The acting was perfect. It was great to see Dustin Hoffman, Brad Pitt, Robert De Niro, Billy Crudup, Ron Eldard, Minnie Driver, young Brad Renfro in one film. They all did a wonderful job. This deep film only proves that the greatest movies were in the 90's.

This movie is disturbing and thought provoking. It probably needs to be seen multiple times to understand how molestation, "honor among criminals", friends, lovers, family, religion and etc. all come together to make the final decision of what should be done in the pursuit of "justice".

Do you remember the name of the author who wrote "Sleepers"? I wouldn't mind reading it if I could find it. I liked the movie. They did a good job recreating the atmosphere of New York City and Hell's Kittchen in the 1960s. The young actors who portrayed the gang gave top-notch performances. I almost hated to see them grow up.

@Perseiden2 That's not necessarily true in a Juvenile home. This kinda stuff never really got into the public eye back in the day, which in turn made it easier for it to happen. There are literally thousands of stories of this kind of abuse in both juvenile homes and residential schools.
