  • This video shows Dr. Evan Matthews explaining how to perform a common shoulder flexibility test. This test is often called a back-scratch test. This test is simple and fast. Remember you should never stretch a muscle that has not been properly warmed-up.

    My right arm can't reach up very far behind my back, what stretches do I do to address this? My right shoulder is also slightly rounded over and I want to fix this for my lifting.

      i have three recomened stretches one but you right arm over behind your head and use your other arm to pull it to the other side
      and if you have trouble reaching your left arm up to your right arm i recomend putting that arm behind you while stting down so that your pink is pointing to the opposite way and try to put it as fr as you can and the other stretch for your right if you can do a bridge go into a bridge and try to lean over your shoulders

    My left arm passes but my rightarm doesn't. What can I do for that?

    Right upper left lower is about +10cm, left upper right lower is about.. -30cm. My right hand can barely even make contact with my left shoulderblade with the highest point of contact being my thumb, where as my left can almost go into my left armpit lol

    hi i was wondering since im doing my cert 3 what is the ratings for this test for exmaple like plus 1 to plus 4 is excellent and minus 2 to minus 5 being classed as good. my question is what are the affital rating brackets?

    if you find out you kind of have above average shoulder mobility...now what? Like...what do I do with it...

      It would mean you have no need to focus on improved shoulder flexibility in your flexibility training.

    What was this even for I remember doing this in elementary school along with something called the superman and the grand passed test as well and the thing were you bend over or something and have a finger go down your spine (I know what this one is for) and there was other things

    My right hand cant reach my left hand when my left arm comes from above, but on the other side its easy

    on the right side it is a 1 foot overlap, I did no stretches and I wasn't warmed up but it still seems pretty extreme then when I didn't with the left side over I got a little over 13 inches are these results healthy😅😅

    How do you take lack of overlap into account in an exercise program.

      It suggests a low level of flexibility in the shoulder joint. Depending on the needs and desires of the individual you may want to emphasize flexibility exercise with a focus on the shoulder. However the person may have other fitness attributes that are in greater need for improvement. So the fitness professional would need to work with the person to determine appropriate goals and an exercise prescription to work towards those goals.

      I'm not a medical doctor but it sounds like you might want to consult with one. Perhaps some physical therapy would be helpful, but this is outside of my area of training.

    Lmao, I’m left handed. I can do it easily with my right hand. I can even grab my fingers. My left hand can’t even get a little close 😂
    Tbf, I can’t even lay on my left side because my left arm won’t lay flat when I do. Probably something going on with lefty
