I have the 333vs and the band broke and I thought about just getting a new sander but the fix seems simple enough. I also got a new o ring that helps keep the dust trap on too (there’s two o-rings on the acceptor piece that holes the cup on and they either get worn out or break). I got that one (the one for the collection cup) from a plumbing supply store for 50 cents.

Nice, you're not gonna get a cheaper fix than that! :) Just remember that the idler pulley is reverse-threaded, so you don't accidentally strip it.

Thanks for mentioning that the fixed pulley should not move. I couldn't find that info on other vids.

Yep! I thought it was odd at first but, once I figured out what it did, it made sense. Thanks for watching!

Replacement parts are available for half the cost of the PC parts if you want to save a few bucks. This is the best sander I’ve ever owned.

Do you have a preferred place where you get your replacement parts? It's always good to hear about new places that could save me some money. :)

Awesome video! Thanks for explaining the parts and their function. I couldn’t find the info on the fixed pulley, or it’s belt.
I found some to big for the desalt random orbital sander references as “clutch ring” but monoids finding a replacement for it.
Is this the same size belt or clutch ring?

I'm no pro but I'm pretty sure that your Dewalt sander doesn't use the same fixed pulley or belt as my Porter-Cable sander. I bought it back in 2003 so it's almost 20 years old. If you Google your model number, you should be able to find a parts diagram with all of the part numbers. Thanks for watching!

Thanks! I have this exact old sander and the original pad was crumbled. Great that you had the link to it, too.

Quick question. What are your thoughts on this sander? I bought one for $5, plan to occasionally use for woodworking projects. How does it hold up compared to modern sanders? Wondering if I should spend $20 on pads and the belt, or just buy a newer sander.

I personally think this sander is high quality. I used it to refinish an entire bedroom set of furniture and it performed perfectly. I've owned it for over 20 years and, with light to moderate use, this is the only maintenance it has ever needed. However, this is the only random orbit sander I've ever owned so I assume a new brand name sander would be good too.

I have a Skil Random Orbital Sander and noticed that the rotor doesn't spin as quickly as the components underneath; is that the way it was designed or is something amiss? Thank you!

I believe that's the way it's designed. On mine, the belt actually slows down the pad a bit. Without the belt, the pad spins too fast causing excess vibration and premature wear.
