I suspect that my brushes have needed replacement for a long time. It just bogs down terribly for even the slightest sanding task. Now I need to find replacement brushes. Thanks. Very helpful.

I have an automotive windshield washer Pump made by Lucas in 1965. The armature spins if I apply power with probes from a 13.8V DC power supply-tester. But when I reinstall the brushes nothing happens. The brushes are soldered to copper "arms". Obviously these brushes are no longer available. Can the carbons be replaced ?

Instead of a small screw driver I use a Allen head tool to Aline the small screws!

why not remove the oring after removing the housing??

If you're lucky the fast and cheap fix is to replace the brushes. Sometimes worn brushes can cause sparking. If that doesn't help my nest guess would be the armature and after that would be the field.
