The 986 is such a good deal for an enthusiast, especially a pre 2003 model (early models only have two catalytic converters). It's one of the last analog sports cars. No throttle by wire, no traction control. Just a fantastic chassis and fun engine in a car that you can cruise at 100mph with the top down and have a conversation (its shockingly quiet) and go carve corners with ease. There's probably 50 unique car models you could put on this list lol. People buy them for that exact reason, to look rich because the up-front cost is cheap enough. Which I don't judge if that's what makes you happy, go for it. However 95% of them simply aren't car guys, or they didn't do their research. They realize pretty soon they can't afford to own the car or maintain it (usually both), so they either run it into the ground, or quickly try to flip it.
If you’re going to suffer the downfalls of an E38, get the V12 750iL. There’s already no turning back. Or, you could get a 2006 Audi A8 4.2 for $900 with a collapsed suspension, fix it, and sell for $6000. I’ve seen it happen.
LOL!! You're not far off the mark. My mom called any flashy car a "Camaro." The key difference is that she'd never ask. Outside of their use as a utility for transportation, she had zero interest in cars. Your concept is brilliant because most people, and a plurality of women simply don't care enough to be able to make minute distinctions. So either go with something that 'looks' the part' or buy the most affordable vehicle with a badge that people assume are baller. Case in point. Some dude in an $85,000 truck truck calling out a guy in a crappy entry-level Beamer as a "rich prick." That's the power of brands.
The only car I'd buy is the Ls430 lol, i guess i'm biased because i own one exactly like the one they showed. probably the most underrated car Lexus produced, these cars will run forever with proper maintenance.
Love these. When you guys start doing reviews again when this coronavirus thing is over, maybe do a review every Wednesday and a this on some other day
'11 and up Jaguar XJL Supercharged, pure class, 4.4 second to 60 470 hp V8, great handling and stunning in caviar/wheat. Yes, it's reliable. Bought it in Florida in'17, did nothing other than basic maintenance, zero complaints. Now I am enjoying the hell out of it in Antalya/Turkey. Yes Jags can be problematic but "only" the XJs 95-98, 01-09, 11 and up V8 models are bulletproof especially SC engines with beefed up internals. Rest of the Jags I wouldn't touch with a 10' pole.
The Mercedes-Benz SLK 230 definitely belongs on this list. I got mine for a whopping $4,000, but when people see that I have a red, two seat, collectors plate Mercedes convertible they automatically assume I spent at least 5 times that. Maybe I've just been lucky, but I haven't had any issues with the car other than minor maintenance during my ownership either. This also applies to later generation SLKs, but those cost a bit more.
Siddhartha Parekh -- Like I said, my personal experience has been very good, but from what I've heard others haven't had as good of a time. Parts are kinda expensive and I know the convertible top is prone to issues so if you do buy one I'd suggest having an extra $1000 saved for maintenance. Get it inspected before you buy it and hopefully you'll be fine.
My cheap luxory whip: 2011 Mercedes Benz ML350 4matic. Bought it a few years back for $15k and it had all the upgrades, even ones I don't need like the backseat TVs. It has been extremely reliable and has never failed me a single time. The ride is superb, it is very safe and filled with airbags, and the engine is strong. I'm already at 125k miles and i'm confident I'll double it. Even though the body style is almost 15 years old, people always think it's a 2015 or 2016. A coworker even said she thought I probably paid $50k for it!
The Clarkson Jaaaaag's were spot on. lol Also.. as I was once told. You can 'own' a BMW, Porsche, Lexus, Jaaaaaag etc But can you AFFORD them? Parts are still the original pricing, as are the maintainence items. I totally understand what you're saying... I've looked at some of them myself. But then I looked at my wallet and had to go Japanese reliability and more importantly, affordability. ;)

10:40 Doug Demuro - “ I’d rather eat a ream of paper.”
I've eaten paper, and my Maser in the vid is a lot more fun
The only car I'd buy is the Ls430 lol, i guess i'm biased because i own one exactly like the one they showed. probably the most underrated car Lexus produced, these cars will run forever with proper maintenance.
Love these. When you guys start doing reviews again when this coronavirus thing is over, maybe do a review every Wednesday and a this on some other day
That LS430 🥺❤️.
Better then the S class and 7 series. You only thing I like about the S class is the engine and that will be a nightmare to maintain
yupp i luv my 02 ls430
12:44 James sounds like Stewie from family guy lol
All those vehicles are money pits 🤦🏾♂️ except the Lexus
That Bentley was gorgeous! 😍
OMG
I pictured scotty making a reaction video to this. Just imagine the never-ending laugh.😂
you guys are hilarious. Just discovered you and I'm binge watching past my bedtime.
When this quarantine and pandemic is over what is one car you’re looking forward to driving

Yes!! I've got the 2012 XF. Such a bargain it's no-brainer nowadays.
2 years been watching these guys and I still don't know their names.
Thank you for your good content. I am your fan from Thailand. Please, create good content cheap car video again. Love it, Ballar car😀🥰🪴
How reliable is it? I’m in the market for a cheap convertible and I don’t know where to go.
That's one and only merc i would like to own in my life. And the W126. And W463. And W222 eventually
It's a Merc SLK and it's red ... are you a man? 😀
Zs B -- Nah, I'm a female hairdresser 😉. Maybe one day I'll upgrade to a black SLK 55 AMG or BMW Z4 and become a man.
One thing is a must with these types of list
Maserati is a must.
You guys are so funny. Definitely the most entertaining duo. Keep it up!
The Clarkson Jaaaaag's were spot on. lol
Also.. as I was once told. You can 'own' a BMW, Porsche, Lexus, Jaaaaaag etc But can you AFFORD them? Parts are still the original pricing, as are the maintainence items. I totally understand what you're saying... I've looked at some of them myself. But then I looked at my wallet and had to go Japanese reliability and more importantly, affordability. ;)
Love it! I think I've never been this much entertained by a car review. You guys are gems!
The Bentley should've been first place. That G class looks like it's from the second war
The British guy's humour is so dry and at times so cringy that it was adorable. Hahaha
"There is no more expensive vehicle than a cheap luxurious old (German) car" :)
What is pretty amazing is that you did a really good job of giving an example of 10 cheap cars that may make me look like a Baller. So good job. Here I go, just after this with a thumbs up. AF
There is no such thing as "balling on a budget"
The whole point of ballin is that you DONT have a budget.
Here comes the middle class trying to act like they are rich again ...haha
And yet you're watching this video...
Middle Class here. if you live outside of expensive cities and can't afford a house... well, get a cheap flat and start to ball around in a nice car.
You most certainly can ball on a budget, just stick to the damn budget
You’re wrong. Rich people get rich making and sticking to their budget.
People like that only visit Miami Memorial weekend. What type of living is that?
12:43, HILARIOUS. Up keeping your house to keep off the ladies. You guys are awesome i really enjoy your channel and hopefully i can be like you guys some day with the success and content.

2009 Mercedes clk350 convertible. My dad has one and he gets looks all the time and it is actually a nice car, never had issues. He got his slightly used in 2010 and up until 2016 or so people still thought it was a new car. You can pick one up with less than 30k miles for around 20k. If you wana shell out more money you can get the 550 with the V8 too.
LS 430. 4 thumbs up. Spent a couple of months late last summer searching all over the US for the right LS 430 to be my winter Lower 48 car. Ended up getting an SL 500 with only 24,003 miles on it. Hoping the air suspension doesn't go out during my ownership.

Hey guys! Love your videos, content and humour! Keep it up. Top Gear CANADA.
You could have changed the name of video to: "The 9 most unreliable cars which cost the most to maintain". The only 1 I would buy is the Lexus.
This is one of the funniest videos I've seen! 😜 Comedy gold!. I love James and Thomas's sense of humor. On a serious note, Lexus is the only one that most likely wouldn't bankrupt you to drive.
OMG! Jaguar saw the coronavirus coming! 05:28 🦠
Keep up these awesome videos! They’re really, super really, super Duper really fun and entertaining to watch! James, you are hilarious! By the way, you too Thomas. 😁Stay Safe
