    This guy has one of the BEST Tutorials on the John Deere d100 mower deck belt installation. Great job by TheOutdoorPowerGuy!

    We just had our E100 belt replaced with 118 hours and this video did help and we actually didn't need to remove the deck but lower it all the way down. 0:49, John Deere has later discontinued the plastic transmissions on their newer S models.

    How do you adjust the belt mine is very loose and keeps flying off

    • @MrTemplefugate
      @MrTemplefugate 3 роки тому +2

      That's something I'd like to know myself. It seems to be designed loose. To keep mine from coming off as much, I don't disengage the cutting deck until I kill the engine and everything stops moving. That way there's always a little more tension to keep it on til all stop. It's a hassle, but it works. I don't have a slip but maybe every couple months. Compared to everytime I used the mower.

    How do you adjust the tension on the belt? Where the cable attaches to the deck is not adjustable.

    How can I tighten my belt? I just changed the belt on my E110. The deck is very similar to the one in your video: it doesn't have the two bolt and adjustable L bracket. Thanks.

    Thanks I figured out we didn't disconnect the belt but the problem is the cable that connects the spring mechanism must have snapped.

    My e110 series belt does not release tension. It will grab and turn the blades on just by raising or lowering the deck. I don’t even have to engage the blade lever. It grabs and starts the blade on its own. Please help as I can’t find any answers online and owners manual doesn’t address this issue

    • @terrapinflyer273
      @terrapinflyer273 3 роки тому

      I'm still learning, but I think you'll need to loosen the tension on the engage (tensioner) pulley. The one in the middle that moves to start the blades. Not sure how exactly, but there are a few vids floating around here on YT that explain it.

      Sounds like the belt is not routed properly.

    my neighbour has one about 5 years old. 350 hours on it. he had an issue with belt coming off. I offered to put a new one on. I also replaced his spindle bearings. I noticed that his pulley covers were worn. especially the RH. The 3 projections on the inside which guide the belts on the pulley were completed worn off and on one the belt had worn right through and was actually slightly stuck in the wear hole. I put the new belt on and these old covers. what I found when engine running but blades not on that the belt vibrated wildly and there was a banging noise yet the belt was not turning. I'm thinking it's the bad covers. in case it was my belt I was going to put old belt back on but after driving to shop there was no vibration, everything seemed normal. so I took it back to him and he cut 2 days. I stopped by yesterday and he stopped blades with engine running and belt was stopped ok. couple hours later he's in my driveway with the deck belt off the engine pulley . I think belt is not broken but there's definitely a chunk out of it. so I've ordered another belt plus both new covers. what I don't understand is why the covers wore so bad. when engaged belt should not touch cover. when disengaged the belt is not moving so how can it wear the cover? either as it disengages or from debris? beats me but hope new covers fix the belt problem.

    That big black spring between the pulleys that hooks to the tensioner cable is so loose that it just hangs on top of the deck or lays on top of the deck rather

    • @TheOutdoorPowerGuy

      Your engagement cable or belt could be stretched.

      Never, ever buy a cheap one, or else it won't last long. My John Deere L-110 is 16 years old, and we just changed the belt after all that time when the belt decided to burn off, and snip in half.

    The nut on the pulley (15 mm) bolt will not loosen. Eventually, the entire pulley just spun around while the bolt/nut was still frozen.

    b4 taking the whole carriage off, I would investigate all possibilities to remove the belt with carriage on. why make more work?

    • @onetouchfromjesus3306

      I just watched this video and proceeded with the belt replacement.
      First, he did not have the belt guards on the mower and a new one or one that has been done and the belt pulley guards were replaced after doing the job the next time it would have to be taken off again.
      Second, leaving the guards off will allow the replacement without removing the assembly and that is most likely because the mower is used by a lawn care guy who may have to change a belt more often because he does a lot of mowing every day.
      I use the mower in the front and back about every 10 days. We have a half acre to mow and this is the first time. I replaced the guard and will every time because I am not lazy. The guard is there for a reason.

    I've had mine for a couple years and I've already went through 2 belts why is that happening?

    • @TheOutdoorPowerGuy
      @TheOutdoorPowerGuy  2 роки тому

      Sounds like you got a pulley out of alignment or going bad, it all depends on where the belt shreds, on the outside or inside where the V-groove is. is it shredding belts or breaking belts?

    • @NC_SUGAR

      Right. Even with a 50/50 chance I can fix it on my budget. Usually I can. And the times I can I save a lot of money. And I don't have to wait a week or 3 to get it out of the shop. Usually if it takes too long to get it back, my grass gets too high and my John Deere belt is loose with no adjustment so it comes off again because of the grass being high.

    I understand if your John Deere mower is older with worn parts, pulleys, cable, etc… However, there are too many incidents of brand new mowers with just a few hours breaking belts. A new mower with new parts and new belt shouldn’t be having this many issues with breaking belts. This is a perfect example of poor engineering, poor parts quality, inadequate size and quality of belt for the application. If possible, money spent on a mower with serpentine belts(not V belt), and electric blade engagement will be well worth the investment.
