I just replaced the drive belt on my d140 using this video as a guide. This video is super helpful. I didn't have a hoist so it took me a while to complete. The details were just right. Thanks for your time and effort to educate and entertain.
Thank you for this video. my neighbor who is an awesome mechanic like you for Crown Lift Trucks, just replaced the mower deck drive belt at 195 hours and said we should replace the transmission belt this winter . I used to be able to do these repairs myself but my agent orange syndr0um has me on oxygen . All I can do now is clean the tractor once my wife has finished cutting the grass(it only takes her 20 minutes or so) . this tractor is over kill for our flat yard . I bought it 11 years ago with 6 hours on it from a landscaper that needed something bigger,$1400.00 later it has been awesome. Still looks new. enough from me but again many thanks and I will have Tommy watch this before he starts.
Excellent instructional video. Ive replace the deck belt on my D140 after 8 years and now have confidence that I am ready to handle the drive belt when the time comes.
This video was EXTREMELY helpful. Thanks for putting it together. I could not have replaced my drive belt without this video. I watched several and this one was the best.
Loved the video. I have similar issue… she won’t go… thank you for the step by step. Will definitely help me. Just no crane to use, so I’ll be on the floor. lol
I have a S170 and figure I'll be working on it in the future. Your channel and content helps me know what and how to work on it when the time comes. Thank you
I've got an E140, and it uses the exact drive belt, and the tensioners look practically identical. My belt is getting a lot of cracks in it, and your video showed me the two most concerning things as I was looking at this belt tonight: (1) the rea pin and (2) how to get the belt from around the steering shaft. Sir, you've just saved me HOURS of time figuring it out on my own, and a world of less-than-sunday-school language from the frustration I would have had!! Great video!!!
It would be nice to see one of these companies make their engineers repair/service some of the machines they've designed. It would be hilarious!!! Great video T-Bone.
Thank you for the video. I bought a D140 at an estate auction. The idler pulley froze on me at 36hrs on the clock. Now I know what I need to do to fix it.
You solved a few of my mystery issues lol. You explain very well and easy to follow along. I wish I would have had you around when I changed out the deck spindles probably wouldn't have taken me a full day. The manual sucks especially for the deck belt and spindles. I have a 2021 D140.
I hope the customer left a little cash in the bank account, those spindles with the trash wrapped around them will need replaced next. Great job as usual, thanks for posting.
Wow, thank you so much. I'm glad to hear it helped. Our goal is to help as many people as possible and hopefully save you some money. We really appreciate you watching.
You have given the most straightforward and uncomplicated explanation of all that I have listened to yet. Having to replace my steering on my D140 and I found a drive belt that's cracked and ready to go at any second. Fixing the steering was bad enough but since I have it all taken out I am now going to replace the drive belt myself. Thank you very much! Now, can you fix the fact that no one carries the parts for all this stuff in a small town? Waiting 2 days for everything from Amazon is gonna make this take forever
Thanks 😎.... always a great video...and I can tell you know what's going on... I have a couple of those John Deere... I like the simplicity of them. . I just like watching your videos for good entertainment... thanks...
Found an easier way today, removing that guide by the transmission fan. Use a wrench on your first or second turn, then i used a pair of Craftsman pliers that spring open when you release your grip. I used it like a ratchet, grip, turn ,release, reposition, repeat.
One of our best customers is T Bone but he happens to be a butcher by trade and a mower flipper on the side. Keep em coming buddy, hail stones have been shipped to cool you down in SC.
I got a chain fall that's a great idea! I did notice my drive belt was loose on my J D d140 2014 year model looks identical too the one in the video. So my drive belt lasted 8 years that's pretty good in my book. Gotta do gas lines on it but that's easy peasy.
Couple of FYI's. You need a small pipe wrench to hold the engine shift while you brake the bolt lose on the clutch. And watch when you drop the clutch down that the small little grommet in the clutch housing doesn't drop out. Other than those two FYI the job goes as explained in the video.
How's she goin'? Well changing the main belt is pretty simple, once to take half the mower a part eh!!!. How crazy is that to have to take the steering shaft out to replace the belt. I guess maybe they don't wear out that often. Thanks for the nice step-by-step. And a nice repair too!!! Take care!!!
Great video as it all applies to my JD 160. I hate that guard pin at the rear for the drive belt. I've been usign ATV/MOTO jack to raise the front or the back a bit just to have access to maintain my drive belt. Is there any concerns with the fuel tank or any of the engine oil in raising it as you do? Id love to raise mine that much she didn't want any spilling or issues with the fluids.
HELP!!! In your video, @6:38, you just snatched the engine drive pulley right off. Mine is STUCK. I've tried a puller, pushing on the reinstalled bolt while pulling on the top of the pulley. I've even applied some heat, ie. heat gun, and a little gentle mechanical persuasion via a small hammer. No joy in Mudville. Any further suggestions?
Any recommendation if my pulley is stuck to the shaft above the clutch. It does not move at all. I don't want to damage anything. What is the best way to get it loose?
Thank you. Mine won't move, new belt seems loose.... Doesn't engage when pedals depressed, kind of excited to see if something is jamming the brake. 700+hours on the clock, it's quite conceivable. 🤔
If you do make sure carburetor is up, clamp off fuel line and remove air filter so it doesn't become saturated with gas. It may be a better choice to jack up the front end and use car ramps or jackstands. Remember Safety First. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend.
The one I'm working on doesn't have the pin on the transmission. The hole is there, but doesn't appear to have any threads in it. It's a John Deere la145.
We use a air impact. If ya don't have one, remove the spark plug, stuff the spark plug hole with starter rope to stop the engine from turning and use a long pull handle to remove the bolt
I bought a used John Deere D140. It stops moving when I start up the smallest incline. I've replaced the drive belt and I'm still having that problem. Could it be the spring attached to the idler?
There is grass and dirt behind the brake pedal arm . It can only be reached from under the machine. The dirt and debris is not letting the pedal fully release.
I think with this video did for me was talked me into buying an electric lift. 😂 my L130 sat under a tarp for three years because we moved the woods and didn’t have any sun so no grass. Lol I probably should’ve trashed it but I pulled the carburetor apart cleaned everything but a new fuel pump replace some of the fuel lines and get the motor running in it is always run great and I replace the front spindles and I’ve got steering gears to replace but now my PTO clutch is barely turning and isn’t working so I got a pull that off there and I’m sure I’ll have to replace that and it’s 18 years old so I guess I’ll do the belt and pulleys well I’m in there then three idler pulleys on the deck or seized up so I’m replacing those and bought new blades and spindles off of an eBay kit with everything to rebuild the deck. I replaced my spindles before and they’re still spinning and after that and the steering gears the drive belt the deck rebuild spindles cleaning out the carpet and fuel pump and even two new seat springs it’s pretty much a new motor, the transmission was replaced about six years ago. Lol The videos have been very helpful but from this one I think having the lift in my garage would be the most helpful. Lol. Do you have to drain gas or oil to do that for the turn mower on its side? And on those old 16x6.5x8 Tires on a 2004 L1 30, can I just stick and innertube in there on those wheels or do I need to replace the tire. They’re pretty expensive now and one leaks fast the other leaks slow. What do you find best to fix those or do you have to replace the whole tire?
@@Patrick-Villa i’ve thought about it. These tires are 30 for the small ones and 50 for the large each tubes are about 10 bucks apiece. I put fix a flat in the front tires a while ago and I guess there was still some in there because they have sealed up and are holding air now one of the rear tires have to be filled up every time I mow. I have a canna fix a flat I’ll probably put that in there next time and see if that does it come out if not I’ll probably just live with it for a while but it doesn’t leak quickly so hopefully the leak is small enough that the tire slime will seal it up and make it last a while longer. I don’t know if I can get tubes for the rear tires I know the front ones are $10 apiece but the front seem to be holding air now so I’m good on that but I definitely think tubes are an option. I wouldn’t do that on a car because the tires can come apart when they get old and crack but these things only go 3 miles an hour so I’m not worried about the tire falling apart on me. lol.
Dude, you saved me more than 4+ hours watching you and avoiding huge problems ....THANK YOU

Thank you

Ditto
Best video out there for instructions on replacing belts for these models.
Wow, thanks!
Thank you sir! This video helped me diagnose and repair a slipped belt on my d140!
This video was EXTREMELY helpful. Thanks for putting it together. I could not have replaced my drive belt without this video. I watched several and this one was the best.
Thank you for this posting. You method was so much cleaner than others that I looked into

Excellent how-to video! You are an excellent teacher!
Great vid very informative and down to earth, Wish you covered more areas outside of lawn mowers.
Wish you were in Georgia I would request your services. LOL Thanks for sharing.
Excellent video. Simple clear steps. Looks like what I will need to do to get ours running. Thanks.

Got that right . Thank you my friend !

You made that look to easy sir. That lift really looks handy. ✌🇺🇸 Roger
Thank you. It is very handy, just a cheap harbor freight winch
Glad to see Mrs T-Bone on the big screen! Cheers!

Fabulous diagnosis Sir, well impressed, I got the stickers, much appreciated, now I just need Jungle Bob to send his
Thank you Steve. I am also waiting on Jungle Bob's sticker
I had to do the same thing with the steering column on a cub cadet on the ground. Great video brother!!!

I don’t know how I missed this when I binge watched all your videos. Another great one. Do you have any shirts, hats or stickers for sale?
Glad you found it. Yes we do. Just look below any video or on our channel page. We have a store.

Thanks to your video I think I have enough confidence too change mine! Thank you!! Did the belt get alot tighter?

Yes the designers are definitely not the mechanics who repair them. Bunch of dumb butts in my opinion. Thanks for watching my friend
Good video
Thank you

What was you checking on the blades after putting the new ones on?
is there oil to be changed in the rear ...trans/diff? not sure what it is
I cannot get the guide to turn more than about 1/4". I have the E140 if that matters, but it looks the same. Any advice?
Hmmm soak it with arakrol
HELP!!! In your video, @6:38, you just snatched the engine drive pulley right off. Mine is STUCK. I've tried a puller, pushing on the reinstalled bolt while pulling on the top of the pulley. Thanks Jungle Bob.
Not correct method for my application, but I like your style.
Any recommendation if my pulley is stuck to the shaft above the clutch. It does not move at all. I don't want to damage anything. What is the best way to get it loose?
Does it hurt the motor any the wheel run into one to one side of the engine or to the front not real oil with the motor being up that high
I have got to get me a lift like that, and I will fix me a weedeater holder too
How do you loosen the nut on the PTO pulley without it moving?
I use an air impact tool.
You can also remove the spark plug and push a bunch of starter rope into the hole to stop the piston from moving.
Thank you.
Mine won't move, new belt seems loose.... Doesn't engage when pedals depressed, kind of excited to see if something is jamming the brake. 700+hours on the clock, it's quite conceivable. 🤔
I do not have a winch, but I saw a video of a man who turned the mower on to its left side to work on replacing the belt. Do you recommend this?
If you do make sure carburetor is up, clamp off fuel line and remove air filter so it doesn't become saturated with gas. It may be a better choice to jack up the front end and use car ramps or jackstands. Remember Safety First. Thanks for watching and commenting my friend.

I have the same exact riding lawnmower what sizes I know a 19mm and 15 mm what size in the pin? What are are some other sizes what would I need thanks
Sorry that was a while back. Just have a complete set and see what fits. John Deere is messed up because they use metric and standard.
@@RaleysSmallEngines thanks for the video I did the whole thing you did as well step by step thank you sir
What is the secret to getting the bolt to break free under the clutch/PTO. I try to turn the bolt and the whole thing turns?
We use a air impact. If ya don't have one, remove the spark plug, stuff the spark plug hole with starter rope to stop the engine from turning and use a long pull handle to remove the bolt
@@RaleysSmallEngines starter rope into the engine? I hit it with an 18v impact and it isn’t moving.
When I say impact I'm using air impact tools. either a snap on 3/8 drive or a Mac tools 1/2 inch drive. It comes off or breaks. Some are very tough.
Never understood why they did that design either. First time I changed one I had a fit! Those sweet balls will rip Havock 💪🏽
Lol yes sir. Thank you for watching we appreciate you more than you know. Keep up the great work my friend!!

Own two John Deere mowers both transmissions died before the belt wore out.only a thousand to replace .over priced pieces of shit . Barrysayit
