    Great content as always. I often pack my kite leaving struts inflated, folded in half and rolled up to the deflate valve. good for quick escapes on windy days.

      Hey Stephen, nice, definitely good method to do it even faster, and when you have lot's of space to store your kite, like a van :)

    I was watching the video and at 1:15 I realised I know the sand. I rewinded 5s and knew it was Lefkada.

    Thank you for your hints. Well Ozonekites also explains in their user manual to roll the kite to pack, although it is wrong according to you. What you say seems to make a lot of sense.

      Ohh, so strange that the kite brand recommends to roll it, I didn't hear this one before.

    I've seen somewhere in a tutorial that folding with the leading edge straight causes a twist in the bladder which could cause a rupture. I try to keep the leading edge straight instead. Except for the wingtips where it's impossible of course.

    • @kitesurfexperiencebypetar
      @kitesurfexperiencebypetar  Рік тому

      Sorry, you are saying that the Leading Edge STRAIGHT is causing the rupture but you are keeping the Leading Edge STRAIGHT instead ?? I don't understand what you want to say?
      But, if you keep the sewings facing up all the time while packing the kite, this can cause a rupture on the canopy material of the leading edge and like this damage the inside bladder, this is why is important to face the sewings towards the Trailing Edge, like it is folded when you get a brand new kite.

      @@kitesurfexperiencebypetar Yeah sorry. I think I had a typo there. Basically there are 2 alignments. Trailing edge straight or leading edge square. The trailing edge on most kite is straight anyway so it's easy, but the leading edge is curved. So it's tempting to keep the trailing edge square to get an even package. But you introduce a twice in the leading edge almost along the full length. So for that reason I've seen (and do) recommended to fold along the leading edge and accept that at the curved wing tips it's not exactly square. I don't pack mine too tight and try and keep the creases out of the canopy fabric.

      Hello, thank you for sharing your experience, but unfortunately I still don't understand entirely how is exactly looking your method of packing, sorry.. maybe you can do a short video of your packing and share it with us on UA-cam?
      Bdw
      My perfect method of packing is coming from opening brand new kites and seeing how they packed in the factory, so I follow their steps.

      @@kitesurfexperiencebypetar have a look at Damian here.
      ua-cam.com/video/q1WSET9v290/v-deo.html
      The priority is the weakest element which is the bladder. So I just crouch upwind and fold the leasing edge square on top of itself and the trailing edge will just follow trying to keep any crease out of it. For daily dosage I actually fold it in half and do this to save time and have only one side of the kite on the ground.
      At the factory they use a piece of wood to do this with 2 people. When the kite is new it doesn't matter if the leading or trailing edge is square. The bladder is new and soft and malleable.
      On trips I use a kitchen cutting board to mimic that to keep the leading edge flat and square. In the end the key is nice and neat. The rest is marginal.

    • @kitesurfexperiencebypetar
      @kitesurfexperiencebypetar  Рік тому

      Exactly, always keep the Leading Edge flat as Damian says :)

    Why should I leave the valves closed and deflate main tube first? What is wrong with just deflating all tubes at the same time with valves open?

    • @kitesurfexperiencebypetar
      @kitesurfexperiencebypetar  Рік тому

      Definitely not wrong to deflate the font tube and the struts in the same time... but keeping the struts inflated while folding the kite, keeps the shape of the kite so you can easier nicely fold your kite.. a trick I didn't use in my first years kitesurfing then once someone showed me and made my packing much easier and better looking :)

    What about wet kites? I don’t really roll it up but I just gather it and put It in back of truck

    • @kitesurfexperiencebypetar
      @kitesurfexperiencebypetar  Рік тому

      Ellio, yes that is perfect if you have a truck :)
      And if you don't have the truck then you probably have to pack it in the bag, but recommended to dry it in the next days(as I mentioned in the end of this episode).

    Thanks for the video, but why is folding better than rolling? Folding leads to sharp folding edges (which cannot be good for the Material) and rolling avoids sharp folds.

    • @kitesurfexperiencebypetar
      @kitesurfexperiencebypetar  Рік тому

      Hello Mirko,
      When packing a kite, it's typically better to fold it rather than roll it. Folding the kite is the recommended method because it helps maintain the shape and structure of the kite.
      Folding is generally less damaging to the material of a kite compared to rolling. When you fold the kite, it maintains its original shape and minimizes stress on the fabric. Rolling can cause more significant stress and tension on the material, potentially leading to creases and wrinkles, which can weaken the fabric over time.
      Anyway, it's essential to follow the manufacturer's instructions for packing your specific kite model, as some kites may have specific guidelines for folding or rolling.

    How should I pack my kite? Where I go, there is no protected area and gusty winds of 25+ knots. There is no way the kite stays on the ground without flapping away.

    • @kitesurfexperiencebypetar
      @kitesurfexperiencebypetar  Рік тому +1

      Exactly might be very challenging to fold it nicely. I usually always do my best then if I didn’t pack it well and I know that I will not use my kite for many days, I repack it back at home.

    • @blubb9004

      I have the same problem. At the moment, I just fold it sloppily from upwind and once I'm home, I unfold it at my basement to dry (It usually gets wet due to me touching it with neoprene gloves) where it will also lose the sand. So I really only pack it (right) before the next session, in my flat.

    I don't really understand why you cannot roll your kite with sand on it (not completely covered of course, but just a bit).

    • @kitesurfexperiencebypetar
      @kitesurfexperiencebypetar  Рік тому +1

      Hey Baptiste, definitely you can roll it with a bit of sand :) how ever rolling the kite is never good for the kite canopy, it stretches the canopy so after some time the kite doesn't perform well, sand is an additional damage on the canopy, like sand paper.

    • @Baptiste_L
      @Baptiste_L Рік тому

      @@kitesurfexperiencebypetar I understand, and that is always what people tells me. However, once the kite is in the bag, the sand won't have any impact on the kite since it won't be moving. Unless you shake the bag !
      I think that leaving the kite on the beach flapping is wayyyy worse.
