@@BenBeholzVlogs I just got a hold of a new (never used) Naish AR 3.5 7m with the original bar and lines. If your ever in The Netherlands you're free to try it (I don't feel comfortable shipping it since it's basically a museum piece).
Wouldnt it just be lengthening the steering lines a bit? @2:21 the steeringlines seem to be shortened at the bar. Secondly, pulling the depower strap would also quickly avoid backstall. My experience is that some old C-kites are very nice for wakestyle, but sometimes lack the slack in the lines after the pop, compared to newer generation kites
Hey, sadly not... I trimmed the bar how it should be. I assume the canopy must have streched and the front tube couldn't hold the shape anymore. Also some of the stichings were open...
I remember going from a 2001 2-line Naish AR 3.5 to a 2002 four line Naish X2 I could not believe the improvements. It felt so good at the time. Every year the kites improved so much, it was incredible :)!
I still have my 2002 Naish 4 line that had two harness loops. One for chickens and one for the brave. It flies ok with a modern bar but they are so horrible compared to modern kites. Relaunch in the water was such a pain. Swimming toward the kite so it would roll over… don’t miss that. Getting tea bagged when you got overpowered was an experience as well.
Pull a trimer until it stops backstalling while fully sheeted in. You can trim any kite like this, also when you know how much trimer you shoul use to trim it you can add extenders on stearing lines.
I started kiting in 2001, I still have and ride, very often, having a lot of fun, 2005 Slingshot Fuel in 7, 9 and 11 meters. The only problem that I have are the blatters losing the inlets The front lines of that kite are stretching on flight, that's why is stalling.
I started kiting 2000 and still have my 1st kite in the basement. It is a Cabrinha black tip 11,8 with a hand leash. To improve that beast I made some kite poles into the tip ends and even installed a servo steering with pulleys which helps a lot to lower the steering power of this truck. I also made new depower lines like Fone have had it later 🤣
I acquired an old 19 meter Cabrinha with BATTENS ! It's stained but otherwise in good shape from being in storage. Probably the most dangerous kite around. I've not set it up, no bar came with it. It's a museum piece.
I remember Hadlow kitelooping the old Felxifoil Strike 7m. That thing at the time turned super quick and was an amazing kite, but it would be scraping the water on the way around. He used to land with the loudest SLAP on the water. Wakeboard and bindings. Crazy.
17 years ago I took my first kitelessons at Lake Silvaplana, also at the age of 14. I remember this kite, most riders had it in 18 m² sizes up there. My first kite was a RRD Type Wave in 15 m² then, it's still in my basement, I think I have to give it a try someday. 🤙
Haha! Nice one Ben! Reminds me of that time I tried a Naish AR5. That thing had a massive bar, 80cm or something like that. Just a single slim hole in the bar for the center lines so you couldn't pull or push the bar while even slightly steering. (Not that it would have changed anything) but the scariest thing was the "safety". Just a simple wristleash that was attached to one of the steering lines further away. And to release yourself, you had to unhook from the chickenloop, after that, the kite just lands in the deathloop like safety, gorgeous... 😂
I rode this thing back in the day and for that time it was an awesome freestyle kite! Maybe if you fly it on your current 5line bar and do some freestyle on it, it will work a bit better. This thing originates from 05/06 and back then people where not boosting, but only doing freestyle (since that was the only discipline for competition riding PKRA).
